meteorologist kari hall is tracking that hour-by-hour forecast. winds are a big concern, too, kari. >>> i saw a 71-mile-per-hour wind gust near los gatos, and we're still seeing 50-mile-per-hour winds in a lot of our hills around the bay area. this was with that initial line of the storm arriving this morning, and we're still seeing lingering showers in marin county, now moving to oakland as well as richmond. we now have a severe thunderstorm warning near sacramento that continues f the next 15 minutes. if you have to call and check on them. we have a tornado warning in effect to the east of modesto, and that is also producing a lot of lightning as that storm moves through the bay area. it really intensified once it moved over to the sacramento valley, and we're seeing a steady line of cloud-to-ground lightning, winds and intense rainfall. that's what we're dealing to the east of us. that was that initial line that moved through, knocked down all of those trees and power lines in the bay area, even produced lightning. g any lightning strikes here

this is video taken by meteorologist kari hall. that snow was coming down pretty hard on sunday morning and kari said it was 26 degrees when she took that video. it is even colder now. >> yeah, we're starting out in the single digits in the sierra this morning. here in the bay area it feels pretty cold here, too. at least we do have a clear sunrise as we take a live look outside in san jose. our temperatures are still above freezing right now. you may still have some frost on the windshield in the south county with mid-30s right now. it's 39 in oakland and 37 in santa rosa. it's the wind that makes it feel a lot colder. make sure you're wearing extra layers. and you'll probably keep them on because we're only headed for the low to mid-50s for a high today, over the next few days it does get a little warmer. upper 50s tomorrow. and then on wednesday low 60s for the south bay, but we're still mostly seeing upper 50s elsewhere. we're dry throughout the week, but heading into the weekend a chance of rain. i know, you want to get out an

meteorologist kari hall and i have been talking about it. she takes a look at this next storm system that will help fill the reservoirs. >> the reservoirs are coming up and we have a lot more rain coming our way. we've been watching the levels rise significantly over the past month and now we're at 71% of capacity at the coyote reservoir. east bay mud at 91% and the uvas reservoir overtopped its banks over the weekend and it's still at 100% of capacity in the north bay on average. we're at about 71% of capacity. we are also watching those creeks, rivers and streams that are most likely going to rise very quickly over the next few days. if you do live nearby one like the russian river in guerneville, already at 28 feet, and flood stage is at 32 feet out ahead of the next round of rain. coyote creek at 237 is at 13 feet and flood stage is at 15 feet. the guadalupe river is at just 3 feet below flood stage right now and the napa river also very close. we've just had so much rain over the past few days. looking at the seven-day rainfall totals,

meteorologist kari hall joins us now. show us what you're seeing. >> it's going to be very easy to tell the difference when we take a look at last week's drought monitor to this week's drought monitor. keep in mind that the drought persists all across the west. this is not just a california problem. and even leading upstream for other areas that feed water into california are still seeing a drought. but we've had a lot of storms and we are at 71% of california in a severe drought, but now with the update, 46% of california is in a drought. take a look at the red. it disappeared. that was the extreme to exceptional drought that has now been taken out of our drought status, and we haven't seen conditions this good in terms of the drought monitor since 2019. so it's been years. so this historic rainfall is an example of what we like to call weather whiplash. climate change fuels intense droughts, but also periods of intense rainfall as warmer global temperatures add fuel to

meteorologist kari hall joins us now. kari, still more good news for the sierra snowpack. >> we are seeing a lot of that snow moving in. as we take a look at tahoe right now we are seeing that snow just weighing down those trees as we take a look at palisades. and so the snowpack has had a huge boost. we're more than double the normal amount of snow at 214% of normal. the southern sierra at 257% of its normal amount of snowfall. and what we've seen with climate change that only two of the past ten years we finish above 100% of our normal amount of snowfall. so hopefully this all continues and we do have a lot of snow in the forecast. as we go into the next couple of days, in fact, as we go through the next week or so, there could be another 37 to 86 inches of snowfall in those areas. so we'll continue to monitor that as more storms come in. and we'll talk about bay area rain coming up. mike has been tracking the roads, and it's still pretty sloppy out there. >> and we see the camera here from emeryville as it's looking ac
