big pothole did big damage along the 101 this morning it happened in redwood city near the woodside road exit car after car pulled over to the shoulder with flats . i've seen many cars, probably between 25 30 daniel quadrant got two flat tires. so did kyle murray, who got towed to the nearest repair shop. it was your not your average pothole. that's for sure. it was like a superhero pothole. probably i'm pretty sure more like a villain . caltrans started at vanquished crews had already filled the pothole once now as chp without diverting traffic so they could fill it again, so it had been filled in the last three days. and then in that three days with continuous rain that we had in the usage of the road. it did open back up. caltrans says. it's tough to keep up last january, there were 300 reports of potholes around the bay area halfway through this january. there are already more than 400 . but if you've fallen victim to one, you can file a claim for reimbursement with caltrans. if you feel your car was damaged by freeway issue go ahead and file the claim, and then we'll review the clai

redwood city over 14 inches of rain there. for the south bay, anywhere from 4 to 15. about three to five times our average january rainfall. so what did all that rain do for our reservoirs? well, we're at 44% of our capacity for our four largest reservoirs across northern california and we're seeing some of them about halfway full, lake oroville at 57%. trinity lake at 30% of capacity. so it's still very low and we do have to keep in mind that some of that sierra snowpack as it melts in the spring runs down and fills up some of the reservoirs. but we're still dealing with the run-off, and that's the reason why we have the coastal flood advisory in effect until 9:00 today. some of those low lying and flood-prone areas may still see some flooding for today even as we have a brief break to dry out. the atmospheric river has taken a big dip to the south. we're still seeing activity to the north with a storm system that will be coming in as we head into tomorrow. today sunny. we're headed for the mid-50s. san jose reaching 56 degrees. we'll see a high of 55 in walnut creek

you probably have some in your neighborhood, but the one that opened up on 101 north in redwood city was a nightmare for commuters. take a look at the line of drivers waiting for a tire change after hitting that same pothole on northbound 101 at wood side drive. that pothole opened up in the number two lane before sunrise, before it was light enough for drivers to see it on the road ahead of them. >> it was dark and rainy, and i hit a pothole on the inside lane, and it destroyed my left front tire and destroyed about 40 of our cars, about 40 of us pulled over. aaa knocked this out one by one. >> reporter: 101 reopened in full by 9:00 this morning by which time we did see people still stranded with flat tires. the good news is they can file claims with caltrans to cover the repairs, and you can, too, if your car is damaged by a pothole. with the break in the rain we're hoping for, crews will be able to be out and about fixing more potholes, but there are a lot of them so it will take some time. make sure you watch your speed and give yourself a safe distance to stop. in redwood city,
