bob redell, what is your umbrella status right now? >> reporter: fortunately you don't need one right now. the rain has been on and off. when it's on, it's been a light drizzle. we did have a break in the rain. workers removed downed trees. one life counseling center serves 250 low-income families who come here weekly for mental health services and free groceries. the center faces over $80,000 in losses and damages. >> we have food here in these two storages. >> they need food resources, prices keep rising and inflation keeps rising and families are struggling. and so to not be able to make that need and to feel stuck has been tough on us. >> reporter: in san francisco workers with the city are using this break to fill in as many potholes as possible. on average they get about 600 requests a month, but this will not be an average month they've received 301 requests and expect 20% higher than average because of all the rain. as mike was mentioning, highway 92 in san mateo still shut down in both directions between skyline and pilarcitos

we do have team coverage on the weather and our bob redell is at niles canyon where a road closure is still in effect. >> highway 84 through the canyon in fremont behind me is still shut down. i just spoke to a caltrans worker and he is hoping to have this road reopened by tonight if not tomorrow. it was shut down because of the enormous amount of rain. you can see there's the alameda creek. its levels are down right now, but they were up much higher on saturday during that storm. and during that storm, it actually caused a sinkhole along highway 84 through niles canyon, so that's why it's taking so long for that road to reopen. north of us in the hills of castro valley, redwood road is closed for several miles because of a large landslide. alameda county firefighters tweeted out this photo taking your mile marker 8.2. you can see a huge chunk of the road is missing, was taken out by rain over the weekend. and here's new video into our newsroom from the peninsula, where there's a road closure at old country road and harbor boulevard in belmont, again, due to flooding. the rain is defi

"today in the bay's" bob redell, how are conditions right now? >> reporter: well, since i last spoke with you, marcus, about 30 minutes ago, you can see the rain has finally arrived. we had the wind, we still have the wind, but a pretty decent downpour in mill valley, which will have an impact on the roads and the conditions of the roads, which is why yesterday during a minor dry spell workers in san francisco were doing as many pothole we pairs as possible to get ahead of this weekend's storms. on average they get about 600 requests a month for pothole repair but they say this will not be an average month. in the first 11 days of january, they've received over 300 requests, and they expect the month to end about 20% higher than average. for more on where this weather system is, it's raining here in mill valley, kari, where are you seeing it? >>> we're also seeing it in san rafael now. take a look at this camera. hitting much of the north bay, and will continue to get heavier. we're watching out for the potential of thunderstorms and for the week
