the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news. >> now at 10, a violent weekend in oakland leaves 4 people dead and 2 others in critical condition. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow. 3 people were killed in shootings friday night and last night a 4th person shot and killed along with 2 others who survived. >> but are in critical condition. kron four's man, harry talk with oakland leaders about why this continues to happen, how they hope to stop it. >> sideshows to other shootings and killings, the robberies, drugs, a feeling of

lawlessness in the town violence continues to plague oakland streets all while multiple sideshows happened throughout the city friday, one even involving a big rig. shootings have taken the lives of 4 people. 2 more are in critical condition. >> friday night, 3 shootings all resulted in deaths. the first shooting happened around 07:45pm on the 7200 block of international boulevard just blocks from the coliseum, bart station, the second shooting happened an hour later, 2 blocks away from the first 2 hours later, a 3rd shooting not far from the others on 67th avenue. all 3 victims died before they could be taken to the hospital and what the police are tending to. one. there's another one happening down the street city councilmember noel gallo says the challenges and oakland right now are tremendous. >> but he says police are trying to adapt and increase their presence in the area. the weekend we create. we located the command post.

>> on the state of international to monitor that story. a long night long to make sure it's safe for the merchants and safe for the neighborhood. despite that, another shooting happened on international boulevard near 85th avenue late saturday night just before midnight. >> one person is in critical condition. >> another person is in critical condition shot on webster street near 8.80, around one, 15 sunday morning. just 15 minutes later, a person was shot and killed on the 5.80, off ramp at edwards avenue. gallo says the city needs help. we just need more assistance from the highway patrol. the sheriff's department. >> and night, you know, we just started bringing the fbi back and sued the city of open right now. the oakland police officers association, president barry donelan says the department only has 712 officers. >> shy of the 740 minimum. they need to comfortably operate. >> and they're working without the police chief. but on

armstrong was fired by mayor sheng tao earlier this month. >> this site answer to that question is pretty much all of us are used to it. and just for context. and this is we just lost our 10th chief in 10 years. and it does not hamper. hard work and dedication that the officers have amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> knocking out a fiber line in oakland today. comcast posting this picture to their website saying services for some oakland residents and businesses had been affected. the company says their technicians saw multiple bullets hit the line first hand. the company also issued an apology for any disruption. >> on the peninsula, 2 people believed to be connected to a shooting in oakland have been arrested by brisbane police. it happened around 9.30 last night near guadalupe canyon and carter streets. police say one of the suspects tossed a ghost gun out of the car just

before they were stopped. the 2 suspects were booked into that into san mateo county jail on gun and gang-related charges. their identities have not been released. well, the wet weather is back along with cold temperatures across the bay area. the national weather service issuing a winter weather advisory for portions of our region. >> with snow levels dropping to less than 2500 feet the size, the low snow levels. winds are also set to pick back up gusts up to 50 miles an hour in some areas. >> to get a look ahead for meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez joins us now. he member yeah, in fact, we do have that winter weather advisory already going into effect for the our interior north bay mountains. >> where you could easily pick up 5 to 10 inches of snow for elevations above 3,000 feet. that's going to be the same for east bay hills and even eastern santa clara hills as well. those are actually going to go into effect 10:00am monday through 4 o'clock tuesday afternoon. so we have

to winter weather advisories to report on. and as you can see, it's already starting to snow in eastern santa clara hills. so we're starting to get that rain and snow mixture. so certainly going to wake up to a winter wonderland there by monday. morning radar for though, tracking our second stronger storm out in the pacific. you can tell by that well defined, comma, shape out there just off the coast of portland. that one is going to bring a severe weather. so it is a cold or core storm. pop-up thunderstorms with the threat of thunder and lightning going to be an issue in addition to gusty winds and possible hail. if any severe weather does form. so those of you in the north bay by 8, 9 o'clock monday morning, you're going to see the bulk of that wet weather as that storm track shifts to the south and east by midmorning, 10 o'clock. we're going to notice that each storm track shift to the san francisco peninsula and even into the east bay, san mateo, big bull's eye there with hail could possibly form their. and even for those of

you in the south bay, you could actually see some of that severe weather shortly before your new lunchtime hour on monday. what you're going to see, not only rain but that snow mixture with that threat of thunder and lightning even continuing by monday afternoon, just south of san mateo along the san francisco peninsula even into monday night. but the second storm arriving by tuesday. so tracking all this wet weather and snow arriving in the bay area in my full forecast in just a few minutes, dan and well, back to you. >> recent thanks. a lot. after being forced to close on friday because of the snow and downed trees, mount diablo state park was back open this weekend. crews working today to clear even more downed trees. some of the roads, people who made it up to the summit could be seen bringing back down some snowy souvenirs on after their time out there on the mountain. many people told us it was their first time they'd ever seen snow. some people pulled over, built snowman. and even that snowball fights, as you can see here, they're also playing christmas music. but there were huge lines to get into

the park with hundreds of people waiting hours to get to the top. >> influx of people has just absent. it's so crazy. i've been getting screamed at by the locals down here because the line is just a mile 2 miles long. you know, we've had people waiting for 2 hours just even get into the park. >> the park and to pull extra rangers from nearby parks to keep up with the influx of people today. if you want to see the snow, you may have better luck over the next couple of days. the park is expecting it to be a little less busy during the week. then it was today. >> over in santa cruz, we're still seeing a few patches of snow out on route 17. chp tweeted this image reminding everyone drive with caution and of course, turn your headlights on. >> for your help tonight, a new and stunning conclusion from the u.s. federal government agency that is the origin of the covid-19 virus was likely leaked from a chinese lab. joe khaleel has the latest. >> the department of energy

now believes the most likely explanation for the origins of covid is that it leaked from a chinese lab, not that it occurred naturally that from an exclusive wall street journal report, which has the energy department passed that information in a classified update to the white house and to a select few members of congress. well, i think we need to have public hearings on this and really dig into it. alaska senator dan sullivan says if it's proven that covid spread because of a lab accident in wuhan, china needs to be held accountable. >> a lot of evidence that it's coming from the chinese and one other countries even raise like australia. the chinese user course of economic activities to shut people up. >> if accurate, the report is a major update up to this point. no government agency with the weight of the department of energy has come to this conclusion. aside from the fbi. but unlike the fbi, the department of energy staffs, whole teams of scientific and medical experts and overseas national labs

with skills to make this call yet. many administration officials say the evidence to confirm it is still in question. health leaders like doctor fauci have been repeatedly pressed on it. he's always maintained we cannot rule out the lab leak theory, but that the evidence wasn't enough for him to support it. >> no one knows including me 100%. what the origin is. the reason? well, we're in favor of further investigation. national security adviser jake sullivan address this report this morning. he cautioned the public. this isn't a smoking gun. >> president biden has directed repeatedly every element of our intelligence community to put effort and resources behind getting to the bottom of this question. but right now there's not a definitive answer that has emerged from the intelligence community on this question. >> that was joe khalil reporting for us tonight. developing news this evening in on musk has announced a new round of layoffs at twitter, at least 50 employees are being fired in an effort to further cut costs at the

company. the cuts hit product managers, engineers and data scientists who all help with keeping twitter's various features online. twitter now has a workforce of less than 2000. that's down from the more than 7500 when musk took over the social media company back in october. >> the ntsb says a small plane that crashed near reno, killing all 5 people on board appears to have broken apart in flight. the crash happened just 14 minutes after it took off from the reno airport and was headed to salt lake city and was operating as an air ambulance at the time. ntsb officials held a press conference this afternoon and announced the plane did not have a flight data recorder. a preliminary report is expected in a month. >> coming up on kron, 4 news at 10. the coast guard rescuing a man stranded on the rocks in daly city. >> plus, an update on plans to build student housing in berkeley. why a proposed project just hit a major

vendors who have been attacked in recent weeks. yeah, it comes as one of those attackers is apologizing for their actions. kron four's sarah stinson has more. >> rain or shine? people really showed up in san jose to support the 2 street vendors who were attacked can see they've got their tense up. people have umbrellas raincoats. they came ready to eat and ready to support, but feel >> we all the people are supporters. >> me and god reconco is feeling very supported by the community after seeing all these people show up at the street, vendor biota event for cocoa is selling hot dogs on the street in front of safety center. but he was brutally beaten by a person on february. 16th. he was hospitalized for injuries to h-s eyes, nose and face. he's still be wet. i mean, police are still looking for his attacker. another food vendor. carlos sanchez was attacked in front of in tax auto parts the following saturday video shows

a man coming out of a nearby business with a baseball bat and attacking sanchez. police arrested the owner of nearby in tax auto parts, kenny home in connection with the attack. the shop's facebook page has been flooded with negative comments since then this week co posted a statement to facebook saying in part. >> i deeply regret my treatment of the gentleman who set up a vending locations outside of my family's auto parts store in a separate email to kron 4 said i would like to say how sorry i am personally and to make up for my actions, adding he'd clean up the area and put up signs, welcoming people to sunday's event. sanchez was at the event, but he didn't want to talk on camera. he was busy cooking up lots of chicken and thanking people for coming out. be done and i'm organized the event. he's an activist and says. >> whoa, statement seems more like damage control than an apology. mason, 8.30, telling them. >> how do this thing so yeah, i don't think it's anywhere.

4.30, this morning. the coast guard said the man called them directly after he was unable to connect with 9-1-1, dispatchers. he'd been stuck for 45 minutes before this crew arrived. the man was rescued by a hoist operation and taken to the coast guard station to be evaluated. >> in the east bay, a california court is blocking uc berkeley's plan to build housing at people's park. the appeals court says the plans failed to address environmental concerns. the ruling effectively brings the project to a standstill until the university can conduct a new environmental study. the proposed 17 story building would occupy half of people's park and what house more than 1000 students. governor gavin newsom's office has reacted to this ruling on twitter. saying in part, quote, california cannot afford to be held hostage by nimbys who weaponize the california environmental quality act to block student and affordable housing. the selfish mindset is driving up housing prices and making our state less

affordable. >> today in oakland, the rain didn't stop people from celebrating the 6th year of the black joy parade. the free event featuring more than 200 black owned vendors with food drinks, clothing and more. there were 2 stages for performances. >> along with games and what was called the healing village. there was also a procession which has been deemed the largest black joy parade per session in the country. >> we want to get your check of your 4 zone forecast. many more days of rain ahead of us. this is a live look at sfo tonight. not looking too bad. not bad at all, but it's going to get chilly and wet debris surround rig joining us now. >> look at the forecast in recent. yeah, let's take a look at these weather headlines with the approaching storms because we're tracking not one but 2 winter storms. >> the second one is going to arrive monday about a 3rd of an inch of rain or less for most of the bay area with storm number 3 arriving tuesday morning through wednesday morning. not going to be as strong as monday

storm, but still we could easily pick an additional half an inch of rain or less with our highest peaks slightly more than an inch of rain for monday, all the way through wednesday as well. but it is going to bring severe weather as well. pop-up thunderstorms, hail with the threat of thunder and lightning in the forecast. so don't let your guard down the days that we're going to be most susceptible to that severe thunderstorm threat will be monday and even into tuesday. so we're tracking dry, clear conditions as storm number one has exited the bay area really bring us about a quarter of an inch of rain or less. but it's this stronger storm. this winter blast. that's not going to bring us widespread heavy rain to the bay area. but the return of mountain snow. in fact, we're going to start to see those snow capped peaks by monday morning in the north bay and even east bay hills, including eastern santa clara hills as well. going to be under a winter storm advisory. and we're going to see severe weather with the threat of hail if any pop-up thunderstorms do form gusty

winds 50 miles per hour or less impacting your monday morning and monday afternoon commute. so just keep that in mind by monday night. that second storm going to exit only to be replaced by 3rd storm tuesday morning through wednesday morning. so we're going to see at least an inch of additional rain for the bay area from coast to valleys. right now, we're tracking a very dry, clear and cool outlook. half moon cooling down to 39 degrees with fairfax currently in the mid 30's at 34 degrees in petaluma dipping into the upper 30's overnight lows tonight below freezing for santa rosa. 31 degrees with widespread mid to upper 30's for the rest of our inland valleys. high temperatures tomorrow, very similar to today upper 40's to low 50's when we should be in the low to mid 60's 5 to 15 degrees below average. getting a little bit of a break from the wet weather with our warmest while the state friday, but still 5 degrees below average. but as you can see, that storm door why do

>> several publications around the country are dropping the well-known comic strip known as dilbert. and that is after some remarks that creator made that scott adams, he lives here in the bay area. he was discussing a rasmussen reports survey on his youtube show. the anti-defamation league has classified it as a trolling campaign. the survey asked if it's okay to be white adams who is white, as you can see here repeatedly referred to people who are black as members of a hate group and said he would no longer help black americans. he also said

white people should get away from black people. adam said yesterday that he was trying to make the point that everyone should be treated as an individual without discrimination. the washington post in the usa today network of newspapers have since pulled the plug on the long-running comic strip. >> happening right now so far, so good for tonight's launch of a space x rocket up to the international space station. the falcon 9 rocket, as you can see here in this live image is set to lift off from cape canaveral, florida at 10:45pm. our time the dragon endeavor space capsule. we'll be carrying 4 astronauts. 2 americans are russian and the first astronaut ever from the u a e the dragon will dock with the space station about 24 hours after launch. nasa says the weather in florida has mostly clear right now. there is a 95% chance for launch tonight in about 20 minutes so that somebody for safe travels. white, a
