>> when fun time from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at to the people. i wait. >> a community in mourning tonight. half moon bay city leaders are preparing for a vigil tomorrow night, too. honor the 7 lives lost in monday's mass shooting. thank you so much for joining us on kron. 4 news at 9. i'm vicki liviakis and i'm catherine heenan. the city has several speakers lined up. they will also be. >> shutting down streets for what is expected to be a big turnout of the growing downtown memorial kron. 4

sarah stinson is at the memorial and she's got more on what's happening, >> that's where the candlelight vigil will be tomorrow night at 5 o'clock right here at mac dutra park. and you can see this is where that memorial has been the last couple of days. people hope that this vigil will give them a chance to grieve together and attempt to heal from monday's tragedy. >> comfort for one. i'm seeing other people sharing the same sorrow, the same grieve and maybe both during arm it's been just a few days since a mass shooting completely rocked half moon bay. julia cooled us as putting this vigil together has been a team effort. initially we we plan some things for the catholic church. >> and when i went to city hall the next morning, we realized, you know, there's no like game plan. there's no operations manual to react to a situation like this. it's been an incredible roope

effort to the whole communities to to put together on such short notice. cooled has been posting fliers about the interfaith vigil to make sure everyone knows their welcome. so the main hope for tomorrow. >> is to really support. >> the victims, families let them know there's a whole community here and this we're coming together in prayer. we haven't heard from many of the families as they have requested privacy. >> they have been invited to the vigil, but city officials say they weren't sure food becoming. i met a couple the. >> some of the members of families this morning at church, the catholic church and they are planning to be here. hope they feel the support from the community. suzanne mckell left this sign at the memorial. it was a stream of consciousness. and i just wrote it says it isn't them this time. it's us. it isn't there. this time it's here. >> a lot of people have been snapping pictures of it. it's all of us. >> as the community that need to pull together. and get

through this together and support one another in the city is working around the clock to prepare for the vigil friday night. already there are no parking signs up around half moon bay reminding people kelly avenue and main street will be closed starting at noon. >> and you can see the flyer right here being posted all around the city and the archbishop plans to visit both of the farms where that violence broke out on monday with a 7 people were killed. >> that is going to get one. and then one 30 and the vigil started 5. >> keep in mind, parking will be limited. and so you're going want to get here early. plus, it's going to be a chilly night like right now. so make sure you prepare, bring a warm jacket, maybe a blanket. i'm sarah stinson reporting live in half moon bay. back to you. >> all right, sara touching a chord really around the bay around the country. a few 100 people, as you can see there, including children gather tonight for a vigil in san

francisco. people lit candles at portsmouth square and chinatown. they shared a somber moment in honor of those killed in half moon bay as well as monterey park and oakland. >> monday's massacre, not the first time a workplace dispute led to a shooting at that farm. the san mateo county da says an ongoing dispute between to farm managers led one of the martin medina to opened fire at the other's home last july. the victim held the door type. the shots missed him. medina continued to threaten to kill the man police say and his family before. finally leaving. >> i mean, obviously we know that there are places in various towns around our country, de la or san francisco, oakland, where there are areas that are particularly prone to gun violence. this what this area not pretty. this is like we've had calls out there all the time. it all. and so it's a little disturbing about what's going on. scary for the people who living there.

>> medina has been arrested on a charge and charged with attempted murder. he has been jailed on 5 million dollars bail and will be arraigned next month. coming up at 9.30, we'll have more on the living conditions for agricultural workers in half moon bay, one local leaders calling them deplorable. >> tonight, an east bay couple is asking for help after their dog was stolen at gunpoint to the couple says that they were ambushed by 2 robbers while they were waiting in a car in richmond this week. and they are hoping somebody will help them bring home their frenchie named kalaeloa kron four's. dan thorn talked with that couple. he joins us now the studio. dan, what's what's happening? >> tough situation obviously for this couple. but even the richmond police department has been sharing pictures of on social media in hopes that someone will identify and return the stolen frenchie. the couple says it was a scary ordeal and they desperately want their pet back.

>> one year old french lua is not where he should be. tonight he was stolen at gunpoint during an attempted carjacking on monday. i feel like they have kidnapped my tile that. >> exactly how i i don't wish this on anyone. i don't think anyone should go something like this. joanna lopez in preston, lynch say they were picking up food with cola, along for the ride. >> within minutes of parking their car on barrett and wilson. 2 masked men pulled up in a large suv toting guns. one of them, you know, pointed at me. >> and grab the dog. got to go other one opened the door for me to get out. so i got out my hands and, you know, you told my fiancee to get out as well. so she got out. >> the robbers not only stole kalua but also tried to steal the couple's mustang, which wouldn't start because lynch had the cars key fob in his

pocket for did. the masked men eventually took off leaving the couple heart broken in our into brother of them, just left the dog and they can just take the >> but when the time being, it's the last thing i was going ask again get our dogs here. take the the couple says they've had trouble sleeping, not knowing where kalua is. >> they're asking people to be on the lookout for the frenchie and some of his defining characteristics. aside from his merle for colombia has a condition in both eyes called cherry. i he also has a small scar on his right paw. the couple is pleading for anyone who finds kalua to turn him in and they will not press charges or ask any questions. we just a little back. >> the couple says they are offering a $5,000 reward for the return of richmond police are also encouraging anyone with any information to give them a call. live in studio. dan thorn kron. 4 news.

>> and video from the attack on congresswoman nancy pelosi's husband is now expected to be released to the public tomorrow. this week. a sacramento judge denied prosecutors request to keep that video secret. the judge ruled that there's no reason to keep the video out of the public because prosecutors already showed it in open court. the san francisco da's office argued releasing it would publicly what would allow people to manipulate it went the public in their quest to spread false information. but news outlets filed requests to access the video. representative nancy pelosi responded to the order releasing the video. here's what she had to say. the system. >> i consider is my husband he's you can do. it. my husband's well being and we take that day to day. really grateful to the outpouring of prayers and support for him.

and that is what focus is the for something that you've seen at this you know, i don't even know it me. it be thing to see to my husband's life. >> 42 year-old david de pap is charged with breaking into the pelosi home in san francisco and beating paul pelosi with a hammer. authorities say pap also plan to kidnap the former house speaker. he's pleaded not guilty to both state and federal charges. developing news, 5 memphis police officers are now facing charges, including second-degree murder in the death of tyree nichols. >> nichols was severely beaten following a traffic stop. he later died. the family's lawyers say that he was punched, kicked taser less than 100 yards from his home. police say he had been pulled over for reckless driving and then ran off on foot to the leading to a confrontation. the 5 officers all had less than 6 years. experience. all of them fired last week. today

the local da talked about the charges. >> we all want the same thing. we want justice. tyree nichols. it's my hope that if there is any. silver lining to be drawn from this very dark cloud. it's that perhaps this incident can open a broader conversation about the need for police reform. >> the da says body camera video of that arrest and beating will be released tomorrow. a joint fbi and district attorney investigation looms over a group of patrol officers in antioch, one of the 8 antioch police officers. >> under investigation by the fbi and contra costa county da's office resigned last month. the other 7 remain on paid administrative leave. among the accusations facing the officers is misuse of the canine program and abuse of department issued cell phones. we're fully cooperate with the

fbi investigation. >> ensuring that provide the information that the fbi needs in order to re whoever needs to be brought to justice. >> a source familiar with the investigation who spoke on background. it says that the joint investigation could be wrapping up soon. with indictments forthcoming. the oakland police department is facing a lawsuit by the family of an innocent bystander who was killed. >> during a pylice chase, the family and their attorneys held an emotional news conference today. kron four's haaziq madyun has that story. >> we just want see. the people involved in the situation that happened on that night. be punished for their actions. we are here today to announce the filing >> of a federal civil rights lawsuit. that lawsuit is against the city of oakland for the wrongful death of lolo sick. i was killed back in june of 2022, the lawyers for

the family provided this video. they say it shows a participant of an illegal sideshow traveling at excessive speed trying to outrun opd before losing control of the vehicle on international boulevard. unfortunately, so kind his family were gathered there having a meal outside a taco truck following a family celebration, civil rights attorney adante pointer alleges that the officers initiated a ghost chase to cover their tracks of goes chase. >> is a tactic. oakland police officers use. >> in order to avoid scrutiny of their supervisors. in order to not have to seek supervision for permission to engage in that chase. >> reuters says high-speed pursuits on surface streets are against oakland police policy for this very reason. >> which is that core lost control. hit a number of cars. a number of people and ultimately >> resulted in the death of 27

year-old lolo sukhothai. a tremendous loss to his family. he's no longer here with us physically. but i know, you know, stay with us. >> and >> i reached out to the oakland city attorney's office for reaction to the lawsuit. i was told the city has not been served in the matter is has no comment. we will pursue justice for them. >> with the same vigor, determination in force that these officers use to pursue mister minority. the only difference is we will go about it legally as a kron. 4 news. >> the oakland police commission is meeting tonight about a lower on armstrong's paid leave. our conference hill said monae and has been listening in and joins us live from the newsroom. very contentious, right l a. >> well, the police commission did express it is important. they have all the information related to this case before them in advance of any

decisions. the chair saying that they're paying close attention to the events that led up to chief leronne armstrong administrative leave. so the commission is voting tonight whether to formally asked for all records from both the city and police department that are tied to the chiefs disciplinary action. this approach they say is a requirement that was passed by a 2020 ballot measure due to union demand. although the tour says that the commission wasn't asked how this would affect oversight. so now they say that it's a process they have to comply with for information, but she did give an example of how it might be getting in the way of them getting timely information. >> in october of the same year 2022, i followed up with a specific request for the investigations into the chief and the department that have recently been publicized i wanted to make sure we got access to information that can form our role as department oversight as quickly as possible. and i also wanted the ig to have the same access. we figured compliance would be forthcoming. to date.

the city has yet to comply with the october quest and we have patiently followed up. >> the commission went into closed session more than an hour and a half ago. and it looks like they're just coming back into an open session. so i'm going to keep an eye on it and bring you any more details that might come up tonight at 10 in the newsroom. ella sogomonian kron. 4 news. >> thank you, ella. taking a look now at the 4 zone forecast as we get a live shot here of a traffic on the golden gate bridge. and here's a long time do you've got a game forecast, right? yeah. big game. boy, everybody's we watching that this weekend. i think the weather is going to cooperate. who's going to a little chilly but not too out of hand for san francisco type of weather. so yeah, forty-niners. yeah. they're used to temperatures in the 50's. that's where they get in philly. there is a slight chance we could see some scattered light showers for the game. but here's the forecast. 52 and for the eagles there in philadelphia, you're going to see the temperatures rolling in with the clouds as well. and a few light showers in the forecast right there. noon but should

be a great day for a game outside. tonight is a quiet night out there right now is a high pressure. sits over head but things begin to shift gears in the atmosphere. even our camera starting to shift around just a bit here, too. as you can see, we've got mostly clear skies out there now even across the bay, but could be a little bit colder tonight. temperatures today for high. still the warm side, almost spring-like out there. 72 degrees in santa rosa today. 70 in redwood city. 71 degrees in mount view. 67 downtown san jose. beautiful weather. and then along the coastline, 67 degrees. that's because we have those offshore winds. but that's all going to switch starting tomorrow as we see more of an on shore breeze kicking in. and that will really drop the temperatures tonight. not as much wind and that's going allow for some colder temperatures overnight tonight. it's tomorrow morning. stay mostly clear that tomorrow, mostly sunny, there's a hand we could see a couple patches of fog moving along the coastline and some cooler temperatures, too. and then this weekend, much, much cooler and even a chance of some showers. the door we go. 52 degrees right now in clear in san jose. this 51 in san mateo. 51 also in oakland. 41,

though, cooling off in fairfax. 47 in petaluma and 46 degrees and right now. high pressure kind of flattening out a bit right now is that ridge beginning to weaken somewhat. a couple storms continue to roll over the top of it. this next one. here to break it down a little bit. that's going help to cool down the temperatures for tomorrow. tonight them look bad out there. you've got nice, dry conditions around the state and couple patches of fog hanging off the coastline. but that ridge going to break down a little bit more tomorrow. front drops right over the top of it as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. that is going to cool off or temperatures a little bit. then as we get the stronger system comes through and we start to talk about the chance of some the winds. yeah, that have been offshore. i think more on shore. you'll notice those errors, arrows kind of kicking in more of an on shore breeze developing around the bay area. that's going to be that cool air right off the ocean waters across the bay and well in the bay and it's going bring our cooler temperatures as well as far as fog is concerned. maybe couple patch is starting to develop along the coastline by

right matters in this campaign video. congressman adam schiff announces he will officially run for u.s. senate. he tells me his shift from congress to the senate will allow him to be more effective in representing californians. i think some of the most pivotal fight. so in the future our democracy. >> over our standard of living are going to take place in the senate schiff who grew up in the bay area now represents communities in the los angeles area >> he held key roles in the impeachment of former president donald trump. and this week got kicked off the house intelligence committee think this is both sort of political vengeance, but also an effort to try to weaken they're currently concerned, but i'm effective. but what i do and want to try to do what they can to stop that. >> this joins a growing field of lawmakers wanting the senate seat. congresswoman katie porter, who represents orange county, already announced her intentions east bay congresswoman barbara lee has told members of the congressional black caucus she

plans to run but has not officially launched a bid. all other names to watch out for congressman young kiahnna and lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis. there are so many names out there. how are you going to stand out and is the field just going to be too crowded? >> you know, i think that will stand out for the shown over the last decade. the job they want belongs to senator dianne feinstein. >> at 89 years old, she has not indicated whether she will seek reelection kron. 4 political expert michael yaki says she will soon get something that's going to very personal. >> for her and i think she will make her mind up in the next few months. think she's earned the right to decide for yourself when she's ready to make that decision. congressman schiff told me when he spoke to senator feinstein about running for her senate seat, she encouraged him to go forward, but it was not an outright endorsement in the newsroom. i'm justine waldman. kron. 4 news. >> coming up next, it has been

>> the half moon bay mass shooting is shining a spotlight now on the living conditions of the 7 people who were killed. they were all farmers who also lived where they worked. >> barely scratching out a living. our kron four's gayle ong has more now on the conditions that one local leader called deplorable and heartbreaking. so you should see where these folks are living. the conditions there. shipping containers living in shipping containers. folks getting 9 bucks an hour. governor gavin newsom sharing these words earlier this week about how the farm workers lived. >> up until monday's deadly mass shooting. karina santiago knows one of the victims, which she says is standard in the agricultural industry. a lot of people they live and work conditions. >> and nobody knows that. to the people like most is close to that people because they share how they need. >> on thursday, san mateo county supervisor ray mueller

view the crime scenes and shared these photos of the living conditions at the farms. he wrote, quote, there is one room dwellings, no insulation, no running water. we've seen it. >> now how we got into it. >> san mateo county district attorney steve wagstaffe says the county is making efforts to help the situation. while we saw out there where they were deplorable conditions, it is has a place that anybody should have to live in those conditions, particularly the people living in the shocks that are out there that that's not >> have a double in my view. >> the governor's office released this statement announcing the investigation into the half moon bay farms involved in the mass shooting. a spokesperson from one of the farms, california, tara gardens disputes the governor's claims with the statement that reads in part, quote, we have a family that reside on the property in state, inspected mobile homes and large recreational vehicles. they are all equipped with kitchens, bathrooms and shower facilities. in addition to standard living amenities, the families pay approximately $300 a month to rent these living spaces well below market rates. secondly, the

ramon valley student in the stands used with the school is calling racial language yesterday. the san ramon valley administration team sent out an email to parents calling the incident extremely disappointing and unacceptable. >> so for most this behavior is unacceptable. it really speaks to why it is so >ncredibly important that we're doing the work we are doing to create safe and welcoming inclusive environment. >> the dublin high school principal tells kron 4 that she is in the process of writing a letter to the community addressing the situation. >> san francisco city leaders are announcing a new plan to prevent hate crimes in the city. >> they're calling it a unified protocol. the goal is to make it easier for victims of violent or hate crimes to file reports, get help learn what resources are available. the city wants to make. the service is available in several different languages.

the mayor's office police department, the da's office are hoping those changes will encourage victims to speak up. >> the work that we're doing here, we'll hopefully be a model in how we address violence, how we take care of our victims, how we think about addressing the mental health of our communities to make sure that we are safe. >> the city will also host a summit on hate crimes that will be next month. organizers say they're trying to get people together to come up with new ideas. less than a month into the new year. and already 3 people have been killed while trying to cross the street in san francisco. the city's 3rd pedestrian death of the year happened monday at the intersection of franklin and the streets near city hall. the victim was an asian american woman. and according to walk sf the first 2 pedestrians killed in 2023 were also asian women. this is part of a continuing trend. 20 people were killed last year while walking in san francisco. most of them were

elderly, asian american or both the chinatown community development center has been setting out p essays for years now on how to stay safe while crossing the street. >> don't cross the street without looking left and but beyond that, it's also like don't run across the street to catch a bus. if the light is turning you know, making sure that we're doing very pinpointed issues. >> walk sf conducted a new report, a study, dangerous streets and intersections and it found that street high up on the list are one ways like franklin street drivers going way over the speed limit or trying to beat the traffic light. >> new at 9 following the weeks of stormy weather that caused havoc across california. san francisco is now asking people to fill out a storm damage. survey. that's to try to help tally the financial toll. the survey will gather information on all storm related property damage,

>> going to be a lot colder and a chance of showers going return. looks like things are going start to get active more again. a lot reservoirs i should mention now running over 100% of normal for this time of year. so that is some great news. a lot of snow still melt. and philip, those reza bore. so we headed toward the drier months. but up there right now out towards sfo, you've got clear skies dry as can be and it's going stay dry for tomorrow. no problems at the airline said in san francisco, oakland or san jose. right now you get forecast of the monterey bay. you'll notice cooler temperatures tomorrow beginning to settle in 50's even into the monterey bay, maybe 60 degrees in watsonville, southern california got a mixed bag. 59 in long beach, 70 warm in downtown los angeles to about 60 degrees. >> in san diego, high country looking good. you headed there. want to enjoy all that beautiful snow and there's just a ton of it up there this year. temperatures going to be cool tomorrow. mid 40's into both truckee in southlake call 50 degrees in reno. but if you plan on sticking around, be aware there's a cold storm

that's on the way. look at the temperatures by day. friday and saturday in the 40's and bottom drops out in the 20's for high temperatures on sunday is a cold storm system moving in. you get that cold. you can see that light, fluffy snow making its way across the sierra nevada. of course, that's going make the roadways a little difficult to travel. and so you see right here, too, as that storm system begins to roll in to see some clouds rolling in on saturday. but staying dry then as we get to sunday, here comes a scattered showers around the bay area. snow falling across the high country. there's well, maybe couple inches, maybe 3 inches or so across some of the higher peaks out there. right now. it is quiet. looks like it's going to stay that way for at least another day. but then you'll notice this ridge of high pressure starts to break down by sunday. here comes that storm system dropping in bringing that chance of a few showers here. probably more notably. it's going to be a lot colder, maybe 20, maybe 25 degrees colder than what we see the next. storms rolling in one after another as we head in toward next week. so looks like the pattern to get a lot more active here in the next couple of temperatures tomorrow beginning cool down in the 50's coastside cool up
