shoreline. a little cooler this morning and a touch up there in the north bay, too. the winds like we showed you were calm, but expect an uptick on this coming in from the offshore direction, which will be from the north expected this afternoon and into this evening today. a lot of sunshine in the east bay highs will be a little bit more challenged in the lower 60's range. some popping in the mid to upper 60's. however, in the north a little break with winter feels like where we do have rain coming this weekend. i'll have more on that right now. rain as a traffic update for you right now. all right. well, we're off to a good start. if you're heading into the city right now, meteor lights are on. however, about 20 minutes to make it may so that fremont street exit our san mateo bridge, 80 to 1, 0, one 60 minute heading across towards the peninsula. richmond sandra fell bridge will put you at about 14 minutes tolls to 101, and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. it's going to take about 20 minutes darya. james, back to you. thank you at 701. today charges are going to be filed against the man accused of killing 7 people in half moon bay. and he's expected to make his first court appearance later

today. we have kron four's michael thomas on that part of the story live from redwood city. michael. >> yeah, good morning, you know, this felony arraignment is just hours away within to to charges of 7 counts of murder when it comes to that evidence, officials say everything is pointing to workplace violence. let's get you another look in some details up on your screen. what you're looking at is 66 year-old john lee is out and he is accused of shooting and killing 7 people on monday. his court appearance is set for one 30 this afternoon at the hall of justice in redwood city. the charge is expected to be filed will be 7 counts of murder. one count of attempted murder and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murder. according to officials, a semiautomatic handgun that was found in taos car on monday was legally purchased when it comes to a motive. the san mateo sheriff's office says it's still under investigation, but that all evidence is pointing to workplace violence. now, as alice said, to have worked at

one of the 2 agricultural farms where the shootings took place on monday when it comes to the victims. well, officials say that all they can release right now is that was a mix of asian and hispanic. both men and women. now the mateo district attorney says half moon bay has never seen this many deaths at one scene. so very and as we get more details as regarding to what takes place in that courtroom, we will have a team here this afternoon will continue to bring you the latest coverage both online and on air. i michael thomas for kron. 4 news. i'll send it back to you guys in the studio. michael, thank you very much. and we're getting a glimpse of some of the workplace conflicts surrounding the suspected shooter. >> court documents from santa clara county show that he had a restraining order placed against him by a former co-worker. >> kron four's justin campbell reports from san jose with more on the gunman's past. suspected gunman zhao live did miss san jose neighborhood near 2.80, in saratoga avenue back in 2013 and judge issued

a restraining order against him after he attacked his roommate. >> according to a temporary restraining order filed in santa clara county superior court in 2013, zhao and his roommate worked at a restaurant in san jose until zhao quit. but soon after, according to the court documents, zhao threatened to split his roommate's head open with a knife. if he didn't help and get his job at the man also accused zhao of entering his room early in the morning and demanding him to give him his check from the restaurant. he recently quit when the man said he didn't have it. zhao allegedly said, quote, today i am going to kill you and tried to suffocate the roommate with a pillow. a santa clara county judge eventually allow the temporary restraining order to expire kron 4 trying to see if neighbors remember zhao. but everyone we spoke to said it's a transient neighborhood in didn't remember his face reporting in san jose. justin campell kron. 4 news.

>> well, meanwhile, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the mass shootings is growing there in half moon bay. people are coming by to pay their respects and to just come together as a community as well, supporting each other. let's go to kron. four's will tran to find out more about what is happening in half moon bay today. we'll see. >> james you can see the memorial right behind me and this is right across the street from city hall. so i just got done talking to 2 ladies here in half moon bay. they didn't want to go on camera. but let me just tell you what they told me. they are very rauh. 2 things can be true. at the same time one james area, they are shocked by what happened. so they still can't wrap their minds around what happened. 2, they are very heartbroken because it feels so real because it is they are not the only ones feeling that way. here's governor gavin newsom showing up to half moon bay yesterday. he in fact, was in southern california at monterey park in

the hospital dealing with that mass shooting that took place over the weekend that killed 10 people when he got that tap on the shoulder saying there's been another mass shooting in california this time in half moon bay. so he arrived very passionate about what's going on. you talked about farming conditions. he talked about workplace violence, gun control, just very angry. i what was going on and use the phrase that many people are using only in america. we've got a chance to talk to many people in half moon bay many of waking up this morning. but over the past, 24 30 hours, here's the vice mayor talking about he possibly knew the shooter and the victims. >> i was surprise. you know, when i watch the news clips, so or somebody was familiar with somebody's eye contact with an old are brought in like resources. we were young there before christmas. we brought food games for everybody in jordan for him.

>> ok, james you've all seen memorials, right? a lot of times they have the names and even have the pictures of the victims. i'll step out. you don't see of those things. all you see are flowers, candles and a sign that says as a community, we grieve. usually the community, obviously even before it gets out to the masses, they know who was killed in this case. they don't because we do know these are farm workers. so maybe they didn't go about town as often as other people did. we do know ultimately, guys, 5 men, 2 women were killed. one person in the hospital and of course, millions of broken hearts across the country. i will get reaction throughout the morning and it is i got to tell you, it is quite difficult to get people on camera because like i said, the one word that describes and this morning, guys.

>> back to you. absolutely. heart broken. thank. thank >> 0, 7 is the time and also happening today in the wake of that mass shooting there, half moon bay, there's going to be a donation drive in san jose to try and help. >> the victims and this gets started at 9 o'clock this morning. kron four's camila barco is live in san jose with the details. camilla. >> yeah, well darya james. it goes without saying happening. bay has gone through quite a lot in the past few weeks, many people saw their streets and their homes flooded with the recent storms that we got. and now the community is dealing with the mass shooting farmworker caravan here in san jose. they are trying to help the people who have been affected by these recent events. today. they are collecting any items that people can donate to help the people who have been and impacted the founder of farmworker caravan says it was just a few weeks ago that they went out to half moon bay that they delivered of food and christmas stockings to the people there. one of the first act that they want to was mushroom far. we're learning that that is the same barber.

one of the 2 shootings took place on monday. so now for work a caravan, they're going to take all of the items donated today and deliver them to the people who have been affected. take a look at your screen for some of the details regarding today's event. if you want to help out, you can come to the san jose women's club. that's on. 75 south 11th street. this is a list of some of the things that they're collecting. that water, protein bars, dried fruits, lunchables cup of noodles. >> really anything non perishable. they're also collecting winter coats, sweat pants, sneakers, blankets and suitcases. the doors will be open from 9 o'clock this morning until 2 this afternoon and darya james farmworker care of and they have also set up a gofundme page. they're trying to raise $40,000 for the people who have been affected by these events so far. >> a brace $13,000. back to thanks a lot, hala. >> well, speaking of donations, attorney general

rob bonta right now is issuing a warning for people who want to support those affected by the mass shooting. he says make sure you send your donations to a legitimate group and avoid fake crowd. funding page of scammers are popping up. during tragedies specially try to prey on people who just want to help. so bonta says before you send money, you should research the organizer and feel free to ask questions, contact them, pick their brains to says there's nothing wrong with being skeptical when someone's asking for your money. it is 7.10. we'll take a break. coming up, we're going to hear from the woman who survived the gilroy garlic festival shooting of 2019 and how she's trying to make sense. >> of what we've just seen play out in half moon bay. a player for the forty-niners arrested the head of the nfc championship matchup against the eagles in an alleged domestic violence attack. we'll have an update from police. >> and looking for some offshore winds to develop later on this afternoon and this evening, temperatures a little bit more muted in the east bay touch warmer in the north bay. we let you know the forecast today. rain.

not as intense. i suspect we may see wind advisory may be posted for solano county. if anything does pop with that. so basically the drill is mostly sunny and we've got cool conditions today. a few mid 60's work and they're so almost getting kind of mild, really we call and i guess wednesday through friday as minor drop in temperatures as we keep it mostly sunny and kind of breezy. then this weekend still scattered clouds on saturday. but by sunday looks, though, like those shower, chances are holding a this is not like the rain that we've had from before, because it's not coming from that direction. we're not tapping into the lower levels moisture, which is more copious amounts. this is more the traditional winter type storms coming from the gulf of alaska. looking at those moisture levels. you'll see still fairly dry today. here comes the offshore winds pushing away some of the moisture coming from the east. then we finally get our traditional marine layer back again. it looks like by friday today. let's call 62 san francisco. 64 oakland and 64 san jose. we'll be checking in the 4 zone forecast later, our go check in the bay area

traffic. all right, dave, thanks for on this wednesday morning. maybe you're traveling along a one. a one. >> well, it's going to take about 41 minutes to make it from 85 up towards menlo park today not seen major issues there. the traffic is starting to pick up heading into the city. 21 minutes maze to that freeman street exit. if you're traveling to 1, 0, one 90 minute ride that's across the san mateo bridge. if you're taking 8.80 right now, san leandro down to milpitas about 34 minutes. you can see 6.80, traveling you're starting to pick up there. 5.80, still no major issues. about 2.38, when you reach that. and hayward is when traffic starts to build. if you are heading from crockett down towards the maze, it's going to take you 28 minutes. almost 30 and you can see traffic continue to build just as you're eating richmond along highway 24 walnut creek down to 5.80, about 14 minutes. darya. james, back to you. thank you. reyna 7.16, for your money this morning the justice department sues google. >> to break up its advertising empire and the san jose

housing market could see one of the biggest drops this year. jane king is live at the nasdaq, but those stories and more hiding. hi darya. good morning. well, goldman sachs as san jose housing could be in for a fall. it says. >> it does expect interest rates to remain high and the local housing market could see a drop of as much as 25%. that would rival that of the housing crisis in 2008. now it says the san jose could see a bigger drop than most other cities because of the big run-up in prices in 2020 2021. well, google is accused of monopolizing the 250 billion dollar u.s. digital ad market. the justice department sued the tech giant trying to break up the dominance of the market where google controls almost all of the digital ads from selling and delivering them online. google's dominance allows the company to collect $0.30 for every dollar that advertisers spend on the web and walmart will raise the starting hourly wage to $14 from 12. the country's largest private employer 6 to close. the pay gap with rivals in those races to go into effect

as everyone is celebrating, unfortunately, the organization is dealing with the fallout of a player who was arrested for domestic violence, defensive lineman charles, a man who was arrested on monday afternoon for dv. he allegedly pushed his girlfriend to the ground in san jose's santana row, a man who pretty good player. he has 4 and a half sacks this season in the usually gets about 15 snaps per game. the niners have released a statement saying they're aware of the incident and they're gathering more information. a spokesperson for the san jose police department. explain why this offense was ruled a misdemeanor rather than a felony. >> but classify this is a misdemeanor, not a felony. is there was not a visible injury. there the mere complain of pain that classifies that changes the classification from a felony to a misdemeanor. >> meanwhile, on the field, the niners still have that game to get ready for this sunday against the philadelphia eagles. yes. so the eagles have been one of

>> okay. so you're looking at video here which shows a substitute teacher throwing a student to the ground. this was at richmond high school. this happened in a classroom yesterday. as you just saw, the substitute teacher and the student having some sort of argument leading to that altercation, the student apparently pushes into the substitute a few times. and that's when the substitute basically snapped and took him to the ground. the student gets and some point in the video thrown out into the hallway by the substitute teacher. now in a statement sent to crown for the west contra costa unified school district says in part, quote, the student is safe with their family and our school and district are fully investigating the incident. the district has taken swift action and the staff member was released from employment with the school district. now

the district went on to say that the richmond police department is also looking into the incident. >> oakland police are calling another deadly mass shooting that happened at a gas station. a targeted attack. there were 40 to 50 people recording a music video monday night when several shooters started firing from various locations. police are thinking that this was gang related at this point and members of the community are calling for peace and no retaliation. this happened at the gas station. you see here the parking lot near mills college. 5 people were initially struck by gunfire. one of them died. 18 year-old mario navarro. >> at this time we're aware of 6 additional victims ranging in ages from 15 to 63. one vehicle was struck by stray bullets as they left the scene. another victim had a stray bullet entered their place of business. a driver and passengers were injured as they were involved in a solo vehicle accident while they're fleeing the scene.

>> and one person is still in the hospital this morning. oakland police say the scene was littered with shell casings and they do have a good sense of who was involved. the u.s. secret service just released a new report. the details how mass attacks across the country could have been prevented. it looked at nearly 200 of these crimes in public areas, workplaces, schools and events from 2016 to 2020, our washington, d.c., correspondent jessi turnure has the results. good morning. top secret service officials say they now know why these attacks happen and see the warning signs. >> but often the right information isn't shared in time to prevent them. >> these crimes plague our communities. secret service director kimberly cheadle wants her agency's new report on mass attacks to spur public action. the impact is devastating. doctor leana, our authority runs the agency's national threat assessment center that conducted the report. it examined 173 attacks in public spaces from 2016 to 2020 that killed

nearly 500 people. there is no community that's immune from this hour. authorities said these attacks happened across the country from small towns to major metropolitan cities. they impacted businesses the most like restaurants, shopping centers and hospitals, but also includes schools, events in churches by far grievances with a top motive for these attacks. the report found the suspects were mostly lone male attackers with guns who had some sort of relationship with the public space. many had a history of criminal activity, physical violence and mental health symptoms and also made threatening communications from in-person to online posts to tax. many of these attackers had are on the radar. that's why al authority said these tragedies could have been prevented through better coordination between law enforcement, health care and education entities in the broader community like friends, family and co-workers. we know what the signs are. how can we get this information out there out? 30's answer is behavioral threat assessment programs to make sure the public reports

garlic festival in july of 2019, there was a mass shooting. a gunman killed 3 people and injured 17. >> and we spoke with megan bowl. she was there the day of the shooting and she says that string of recent mass shootings has really brought her back to her own experience in gilroy. and she asks anyone affected and feeling the way she is to go and get support. >> in the days and weeks and the years that pasch continue to share resources that has this journey of trauma with the survivors. is it going to end immediately? it's going to go on for quite a long time. >> we interviewed megan about this, too. i remember she was one of woman of the year highlights because created a whole foundation to help connect survivors of traumatic events with each other and with resources so they can heal within their own environment their own time in their own way. and she says it's important for anybody who has been through this or is working with those who have been through this to try to

find a solution. and really that's what she aims to do. >> well, now to southern california where we know the identities. now, those 11 victims in saturday's monterey park mass shooting the la county department of medical examiner's office. they say the victims were all between the ages of 57. and 76, 5 of them warm and 6 were women. investigators now working to determine the motive behind the shooting, the community, as we know, faces a long road to recovery. fact, we hear from a survivor now of that shooting as she talks about what happened, the fact she's still shaken by it. >> it's soothing lie so strong. that's why i pull my and the high end of the pay will guide the playful hiding. pull him and then we go he go with me and then we've had the pay will be that the child that to bed. >> now the deadly attack at the monterey park dance studio came as the city's majority asian community was

celebrating lunar new year. and that, of course, turned what would have been a day of joy into a day. a tragedy. authorities revealed new details from the search. by the way, the gunman's home. >> time now is 7.34 and other news that we're following this morning how everyday californians it we all have the ability to stop gun violence because of something called the red flag law that maybe you don't know about this law temporarily take guns away from people deemed to be a safety threat to themselves or to others. it was passed back in 2014. it allows certain family members, co-workers, school officials to report violence. social media posts were verbal threats to law enforcement in an effort to have that person's guns taken away from them. it gives regular people a way to intervene before it's too late. >> this is one way to really cut off that concerning persons, access to lethal weapons, at least during the duration of the crisis. well, things get sorted out. we

figure out, you is there about divorce going on was a suicidal crises that they just get. you're fired from their job and they want to retaliate and can we get them out of this period? and then restore their rights? >> a study by uc davis is school of violence prevention found of 21 people who were either stop from purchasing guns or forced to give up their current guns because of the red flag law. none of them went on to shoot themselves or anybody else. in the east bay supporters of oakland's police chief leronne armstrong held a rally. they are demanding that the mayor reinstate him as top cop. the oakland naacp and community members gathered outside the courthouse yesterday. armstrong joined the supporters in wanting to get his job back. mayor chantel placed the chief on paid administrative leave last thursday after report question his handling of to disciplinary cases. she held her own news conference. the mayor did during the rally to talk about the mass shooting in oakland monday night. and

up yesterday. let's who are in for later today. good morning, guys. good morning, everybody. quite our joins us here. finding could see some blue skies behind it going on here. we're going to stay dry for today and get some reinforcement winds later on with an offshore wind. even 30's going on up there in the north bay. 36, meanwhile for concord, 37 livermore, but some 40's breaking loose. 40 hayward. 45 for oakland. it's interesting noting about santa rosa because we have projected highs more than 30 degrees beyond that. rand with dry air. you can do that kind of stuff. but that's a big climb. a contrast for you. it's still trailing up there with degree behind yesterday and the east bay shoreline is where some of the more popular numbers are. knapp is also trailing by a good 10 degrees. so winds right now aren't as impressive yet. they're going to pick up a little bit in solano county and sort of spill into contra costa county, then heading back out towards the golden gate and the ocean. we got 56 going on at high noon. 3 o'clock in about 59 or 60 ish. as we noted, however, some readings will be a little warmer than that most likely up in the north bay.
