right. you know, this felony arraignment is set for later this afternoon with anticipated charges that include 7 counts of murder, according to officials. as of right now, only the evidence points to workplace violence. take another look. we're going to get details up on your screen. this is a photo of the suspect in custody. 66 year-old john lees. now he's accused of shooting and killing 7 people. now appearance is set for one 30 this afternoon here at the hall of justice in redwood city. >> the charge is expected to be filed in the 7 counts of murder. one count of attempted murder and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murder. now, according to officials, a semiautomatic handgun that was found in sounds car on monday was legally purchased. it comes to motive. will the san mateo sheriff's office says that's still under investigation. but again, all evidence is pointing to workplace violence knows ao is said to have worked at one of the 2 agricultural farms where the shootings took place when it comes to those victims? well, according to officials that we do know there was a mix of asian and hispanic, both men and women at san

mateo district attorney says that half moon bay has never seen this many deaths at one scene. and when it comes to south pastor team actually did some digging. and they say that there may be, according to court documents, the history of him some violence among other co-workers. so as we get more information, we'll continue to keep you updated. of course, will be here at the courthouse this afternoon. i'll send it back to you guys live in the studio this morning. okay, michael, thank you very much. and we're getting a glimpse of some of the workplace conflicts surrounding the accused shooter. court documents out of santa clara county. >> show that he had a restraining order against him filed by a former co-worker covers justin campbell reports from san jose. suspected gunman zhao live did miss san jose neighborhood near 2.80, in saratoga avenue back in 2013 and judge issued a restraining order against him after he attacked his roommate. >> according to a temporary restraining order filed in

santa clara county superior court in 2013, zhao and his roommate worked at a restaurant in san jose until zhao quit. but soon after, according to the court documents, zhao threatened to split his roommate's head open with a knife. if he didn't help and get his job at the man also accused zhao of entering his room early in the morning and demanding him to give him his check from the restaurant. he recently quit when the man said he didn't have it. zhao allegedly said, quote, today i am going to kill you and tried to suffocate the roommate with a pillow. a santa clara county judge eventually allow the temporary restraining order to expire kron 4 trying to see if neighbors remember zhao. but everyone we spoke to said it's a transient neighborhood in didn't remember his face reporting in san jose. justin campell kron. 4 news. >> well, meanwhile, a vigil dedicated to victims of the mass shooting is growing in half moon bay, a memorial that

monterey park that we saw over the weekend and all of a sudden he said that he had to be ripped away from that after he learned the news of what happened in half moon bay, he came here. he joined the community was very passionate about gun violence about what is going on in even reiterated the phrase that a lot of people have been saying only in america that it happens. a lot of people, not just governor gavin newsom, but local politicians like vice mayor chiming in talking about they know the victims as well as the suspected get. >> all of a surprise. you know, when i watch the news clips, so it's a but i was familiar with somebody's eye contact with, you know, are brought in like resources. we were young there before christmas. we brought food games for everybody in jordan for him.

>> and james we have learned that the suspected gunman actually stayed at one of the sites, the location of seen number one that we reported all day yesterday that he actually lived at the site for about 7 years. just clear up some logistics. i drove right by that site. we thought it would take a couple of days for them to clear it looks like the senate, san mateo county sheriff's department and all of their deputies are gone. but of course, no one is going to forget what happened. and we do expect this vigil to grow and more people showing up throughout the morning. >> and of course, we will bring you reaction back to you. all right. thank you so much for that. well. >> well, there is now a fund set up to support the families impacted by the shooting there in half moon bay, a loss is a nonprofit that's been helping coastal workers during the pandemic. they also help them out with recent flooding. and now the mass shooting volunteers filled an suv with blankets, bottled water and clothes and flowers from the community. the relief fund was set up after hearing at that's

perhaps what they need most right now. >> we're hearing the most concern is, you know, they're not working. they've already not been working because of the flood and no, the economic relief are going to have to help some of the families with funeral support with the media. it clothing basic of needs and just on, i'm going to see what's going to be out there for them. >> volunteers have been shuttling donations to the families of the victims. we have a link on our website for the fund that's been set up by a loss and coast side. hope. attorney general rob bonta is urging are issuing, i should say, a warning for people trying to support those affected by mass shootings. his office is warning that there are fake crowd funding page is being set up now for the victims of the shooting. he says make sure you send your support to legitimate group. and to that end, he says you should research the organization, contact the organizer, in fact, and ask questions and don't be afraid to be suspicious. be diligent. make sure your money is going where it can do good.

>> it's 508. and in the east bay, oakland, police are calling another deadly mass shooting at a gas station. a targeted attack 40 to 50 people. we're recording a music video monday night when several shooters started firing from various locations. police suspect that this may have been gang-related. they and members of the community are calling for peace and no retaliation. this happened at a gas station parking lot near mills college. 5 people were hit by gunfire. one an 18 year-old named mario navarro died of his injuries. >> at this time, we're aware of 6 additional victims ranging in ages from 15 to 63. one vehicle was struck by stray bullets as they left the scene. another victim had a stray bullet entered their place of business. a driver and passengers were injured as they were involved in a solo vehicle accident while they're fleeing the scene, one person is still in the hospital this morning. and that scene there

were shell casings all over the place that the police collected. so they do have a good sense of who was involved with the police thing. a community advisory was issued after a man grabbed a woman. >> and he was trying to take her car. this happened yesterday around 5 in the evening near hearst avenue in euclid avenue. now, luckily she was able to run away into a nearby cafe. but the man who did it still at large. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, a player for the forty-niners arrested now ahead of the nfc championship matchup against the eagles for an alleged domestic violence attack. we're going to have an update from police. and the secret service releasing new reports about the mass shootings across the country will take a look at what they've discovered as well. and after the break, we're going hear from a woman who survived the gilroy garlic festival shooting back in 2019 and how she's trying to make sense of the recent events in half moon bay. all right. it's

the community there. 11 people were killed there. kron four's terisa stasio has more on what the governor had to say. >> i am here in downtown half moon bay in front of this memorial. that is a growing larger as the community turns out all to pay their respects for those people who lost their lives. you can see behind me the flowers that have been left as well as the candles. >> this crime happening on monday in this very small community and tight community. so the pain runs deep as residents try and cope with this tragedy. governor newsome talked about the community as he came on tuesday to lend moral support to those hurting. he also spoke passionately about the need to take stronger action against gun violence. he lashed out about the lack of a federal assault weapon ban, adding, quote, gun safety saves lives. here's the governor. >> we have your back. you matter. we care. we're here. and when you leave. off to the

next. will have their back. society becomes how we behave. we've allowed this to happen. doesn't have to be this way. it wasn't always this way. few decades ago we didn't experience these kind of things. we've allowed this to happen. >> as you heard, he was quite upset. the shooting monday came on the heels of that shooting in monterey. the governor also mentioned the vta shooting that took place a few years ago in san jose. that was a workplace violence crime. again, he drilled down on politicians saying that it is an acceptable that more safety measures are not being taken when it comes to access to guns. the governor also pledging that he will continue to support this community in the days and the months to come. here in half. moon bay, theresa kron, 4 news.

>> thank you, well, the u.s. secret service has just released a new report. the details how mass attacks across the country have been prevented. it looked at nearly 200 of these crimes in public spaces, including workplaces, schools and events. >> from 2016 to 2020, let's find out what they found. washington, d.c., correspondent jessi turnure live with the latest. jesse? >> yeah, good morning, darren james. so top secret service officials say they now know why these attacks happen. even see warning signs there. but they were saying that the report found that most of the time, the information in the right information isn't shared in time. >> these crimes plague our communities. secret service director kimberly cheadle wants her agency's new report on mass attacks to spur public action. the impact is devastating. doctor leana all authority runs the agency's national threat assessment center that conducted the report. it examined 173 attacks in public spaces from 2016 to 2020 that killed

nearly 500 people. there is no community that's immune from this hour. authorities said these attacks happened across the country from small towns to major metropolitan cities. they impacted businesses the most like restaurants, shopping centers and hospitals, but also includes schools, events in churches by far grievances with a top motive for these attacks. the report found the suspects were mostly lone male attackers with guns who had some sort of relationship with the public space. many had a history of criminal activity, physical violence and mental health symptoms and also made threatening communications from in-person to online posts to tax. many of these attackers had are on the radar. that's why al authority said these tragedies could have been prevented through better coordination between law enforcement, health care and education entities in the broader community like friends, family and co-workers. we know what the signs are. how can we get this information out there out party's answer is behavioral threat assessment programs to

unified district says, quote, part the student is safe with their family and our school and district are fully investigating the incident. the district has taken swift action and the staff member was released from employment with the school district. the school district says the richmond police department is also looking into this incident. >> well, it's been 49 years since the first murder believed been committed by the prolific san francisco serial killer known as the doodler that police are once again asking for your help in identifying who this person is. so take a look at the latest age progression sketch of the man believed to be responsible for the killings. police believe the doodler is responsible for the deaths of 6 men back in the mid 70's. all of the victims were white males believed to have identified as. the killer got his nickname due to his happen of sketching his victims before killing them. 5 of the victims were found dead near ocean beach in golden gate park. a 6th victim was killed after being assaulted near land's end, although the 6 unsolved murders are considered cold cases, homicide detectives are still

obviously some technical difficulties there with the sound bite will try to get that fixed for you. but megan, as we know, created the reclaim foundation to help connect survivors of traumatic events to help and he'll with their own in their own environment. she says it's important that everyone works on preventing these types of crimes from happening in the future and help find a solution. well, now to southern california where we now know the identities of the 11 victims in saturday's monterey park mass shooting the la county department of medical examiner coroner's office says that all the victims were between the ages of 57. and 76. there are 5 men and 6 women as investigators work to determine the motive, the communities facing now a long road to recovery. we heard from a survivor of that shooting. she says she's still shaken thinking about what happened that day. >> it's soothing lie so strong. that's why i pull my patna. and the high end of the

from people deemed to be a safety threat to themselves or others. it was passed back in 2014. it allows certain family members, co-workers and school officials to report violence. social media posts or verbal threats and they can tell law enforcement in an effort to have that person's guns taken away from them. it gives regular people a way to intervene before it's too late. >> this is one way to really cut off that concerning persons, access to lethal weapons, at least during the duration of the crisis. will things get sorted out? we figure out, you is there a bad divorce going on? was a suicidal crises that they just get, you know, fired from gptheir job and they want to retaliate and can we get them out of this period? and then restore their rights. >> sort of a cooling off period. a study by uc davis, a school violence prevention found of 21 people who were either stop from purchasing guns are forced to give up their current guns because of the red flag law. none went on
