he may have made threats of violence before. thank you for joining us tonight on kron. 4 news at 5. i'm grant lotus and i'm vicki liviakis. 19 lives lost in just 3 days. >> the result of 3 deadly shootings in california in fact, it's one of the worst stretches of gun violence. the state has experienced in years. 2 of those shootings right here in the bay area around 2.30, yesterday afternoon. authorities say a half moon bay man went on a shooting spree leaving 7 people dead. one person wounded. the suspected shooter is now in custody. hours later. oakland police say another mass shooting unfolded at a gas station where 5 people were shot. >> one of those people has died. these killings coming less than 2 days after the massacre at that ballroom in monterey park where a gunman killed 11 people and injured 9 more before eventually turning the gun on himself. and tonight, our coverage begins with the latest on the investigation into that shooting at half. moon bay are

crawford's. rob nesbitt is in san mateo county. he joins us live now. >> with the latest developments there. good evening, rob. >> vicki and grant this building behind me. the reunification center. that's what was used for last night. it's not a reunification center anymore here and half moon bay. but it was the site where several elected officials, including governor newsom and the same county carroll county sheriffs office gave an update so many people have seen the video of chen lu is aus arrest. charges haven't been filed, but the same san mateo county, d a >> did confirmed to kron 4 that the anticipated charges will be 7 counts of murder. and one count of attempted murder. san mateo county sheriff christina corpus was joined by governor newsom. as i said, and several officials here, they talked about the working conditions that these migrant workers were under and just how bad they are. they talked about how some farms people are making $9 an hour and many of the victims families came forward to elected officials with

concerns about how they're going to afford to put food on the table tomorrow, not just for the rest of the year, without many of their family members who were the sole work or the person who provided for the family. we also found out several details today. some update the sheriff's office clarifying the genders of the victims. they were 5 men and 2 women who were killed. another man who was injured, the 8th victim, according to the sheriff's office. that person is out of the is out of the hospital and is in stable condition after surgery. now, police would not comment on criminal history only saying that there were no indicators that he is keep more of a shooting and killing 7 people. the sheriff giving her thoughts on the last 24 hours. here's what she had to say. >> what happened yesterday in this community? it's devastating. the coastal communities are very tight knit community. most

importantly, it turn the lives of these families upside down. many of the workers came to this country to work and provide for their families. instead yesterday. many of them lost family members. they were killed. purpose with intent execution style. and this community. california and the country is reeling from it. >> the sheriff's office says that they are still working to notify next of kin of the victims families. but they say that that has been a challenge because many of them are migrant workers and they're having a hard time locate the families that are located all over the world. n, when it comes to the suspect is out. he is scheduled to make his first court appearance tomorrow afternoon at one 30 at the san mateo county hall of justice reporting live in half moon bay. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. thank you, rob.

>> and while authorities investigate what motivated the alleged gunman to kill his colleagues yesterday, new court documents are revealing he may have made threats of violence before and even gotten violent. kron four's obtained a copy of a restraining order filed in march of 2013 by former roommate who was giles boss and the document, the roommate states that joe quit his job and then threaten the roommate. the former boss. if you didn't help him getohis job back, you get violent. at one point joe allegedly did try to suffocate his roommate with a pillow. according to the document, said in another. and since the roommate says shao threatened to split his head open with a knife. the judge in the case did grant the restraining order. its current status is not clear. >> today governor newsom was in half moon bay to meet with victims, families, local leaders and community members all impacted by last night's devastating shooting. tragically, the governor dealing with a bit of deja vu.

his visit comes right after he visited the monterey park community where there was that horrific mass shooting over the weekend. newsom spending the past couple of days in monterey park consoling that grieving community. >> where 11 people were killed. >> for the latest on newsom's visit to half moon bay. we go now to kron four's to assist here she is live for us in san mateo county attorney seth. >> thinking grand time here in half moon in downtown half moon bay, not just behind me. a memorial is growing. it's all put together by the community impacted profoundly by this mass shooting. you can see behind me that there are flowers that have been left candles. >> now, this crime happening just 24 hours half moon bay is a small community and a tight community. so the pain runs deep as residents try and cope with this tragedy. now. >> governor newsome talked about the communities. he came here today to lend moral support to those hurting. he

also spoke passionately abou the need to take stronger action against gun violence. he lashed out about the lack of a federal assault weapons ban and in quote, a gun safety saves lives. there's a governor. >> we have your back. you matter. we care. we're here. and when you leave. off to the next. will have their back. society becomes how we behave. we've allowed this to happen. doesn't have to be this way. it wasn't always this way. few decades ago we didn't experience these kind of things. we've allowed this to happen. >> as you heard, he was quite upset today. the shooting monday comes on the heels of thatss shoing, a moderate. the governor also mentioned the vta shooting that took place a few years

police are by gunmen, you know, are walking with the whole them and that the women. so, i mean, it is just a lot of fear. you know him. you know, we have understand, you know, a lot communities also undocumented. so this social, the fear of there's legal status. so for them to come forward to us for help is going to be very difficult. >> the united farm workers of america has released a statement today saying, quote, the mass shooting spree leaves us heartbroken, angry and demanding answers. while we did not know them, they were part of the 2 often invisible yet always essential agricultural workforce that feeds america and the world and president biden released a statement about the tragedy saying, quote, jill and i are praying for those killed in the shooting. he goes on to say that this is >> second time in days that california communities are mourning the loss of loved ones due to a senseless act of gun violence. the president says his administration is

ensuring local authorities and the half moon bay community have the full support of the federal government. >> we'll continue to follow the tragedy and half moon bay. for now, we move on to other news. we go to oakland where the police department is calling deadly shooting at a gas station there yesterday. a targeted attack. our kron 4 noelle bellow joins us now live from the newsroom with the latest information on well, vicki and grant oakland police say about 40 to 50 people were recording a music video last night when shots rang out from multiple shooters in various directions. >> we are looking into the possibility of a gang or group connection with this incident. acting oakland police chief darren allison providing an update tuesday about a gas station shooting that left one person dead and several injured happened monday night near mills college. 5 people were struck by gunfire. one of them, 18 year-old mario navarro died from his injuries at this time. we are aware of

6 additional victims ranging in ages from 15 to 63. >> one vehicle was struck by stray bullets as they left the scene. another victim had a stray bullet entered their place of business. a driver and passengers were injured as they were involved in a solo vehicle accident while they're fleeing the scene. opd says the scene was riddled with shell casings and have a good sense of the involved parties. >> the head of the ceasefire program in oakland says the biggest threat now is retaliation. the group's going back and forth. we continue to see violence. our plan will be laser focused on a specific people. >> well, the specific groups that are involved, unfortunately, opd says it has experience dealing with these sorts of incidents. >> the director of ceasefire giving a passionate plea to the community to put the guns down. >> this should be personal for each and every one of you. we need to join forces. we need to be a community that is united. it's saving the lives of other oakland to us.

>> big story tonight. the naacp is supporting oakland police chief leronne armstrong after he was placed on administrative leave last held step to the courthouse in oakland, naacp saying that the chief armstrong did nothing wrong. >> and demands he be reinstated immediately. mayor sheng powell placed armstrong on leave after a federal monitor's report called into question how the chief and opd is internal affairs division handled 2 incidents involving the same police sergeant. >> at the rally today, armstrong spoke to his supporters and said he's not going to run away from this fight. >> and that taken away from yet. community. because every day i come into this job to try to make over and bit and they open try to rescind yet police and community.

london suing the company for back rent which it says hasn't been paid. twitter owner elon musk has been cutting costs after he bought the company for 44 billion dollars last year. musk says the deal left twitter on the hook for 1 billion dollars a year in interest payments last week. the owner of twitter's san francisco headquarters also sued saying twitter owed 3.4 million dollars in back rent. twitter has not commented on the latest legal action. elon musk return to the witness stand today for his 3rd day of testimony in the trial over whether he misled tesla investors with a tweet. >> yesterday musk testified in federal court that he thought had walked up the necessary financial backing to take tesla private back in 2018, telling the court that he had been meeting with representatives from saudi arabia's public investment fund, but no specific dollar amount was discussed. he is facing a class action lawsuit for misleading investors. >> whether time now as we take

a live look outside the twilight hours, 5.18, the days are getting longer and they're getting more beautiful. it seems a lot of sunshine pretty warm out there today. well, our corporate chief meteorologist lawrence karnow gives us an idea how long we can enjoy this weather. yeah, i was little springfield to eat outside today. i think even be a little bit nicer. we could. >> see some places take maybe up to 70 degrees by tomorrow afternoon. so gorgeous weather around the bay area today. sunshine all the way the coastline. i think we're in for another nice couple of days here. then things will start to switch back to some wintry weather. but out toward the golden gate bridge. what a beautiful shot we have for you this evening as the sun begins to shed said here in the bay area looks like we're going to see a nice pattern, kind of setting up at least for the next few days outside. right now you've got 61 degrees. a nice evening in san jose is 58 in san francisco. 56 degrees now in oakland. a 57 now in both livermore and caulking. and 59 in santa rosa. high pressure in control. you kind get the sense here. you see which direction these winds

begin to blow more of a northeasterly direction that is that offshore wind. i think that settles in again for tonight and tomorrow. and that is going to mean a lot of sunshine coming our way all the way to the coastline with that sinking air, those temperatures are going to warm up. still be a cold tonight. overnight lows could be dropping down the 30's again in some of the valleys. but those offshore winds begin to kick in and we start to talk about the even warmer temperatures by tomorrow afternoon. high pressure will continue to build in for another day or so. and that ridge going to stick around for least a couple of days. and then as we get a lot of part of the weekend, especially that all changes, even a chance of rain moving in as we head in towards sunday. but right now, let's enjoy the sunshine while we've got it. 70 degrees in concord tomorrow about 70 in livermore, 70 degrees in santa rosa. beautiful 65 in mill valley. and 65 in san jose. next couple days of sunshine. sticking around the cooling down a few degrees. few more clouds come our way in the temperatures really cooling down on saturday. slight chance of showers on sunday. >> all right, lawrence. still ahead, a woman avoids being swept out to sea by. clean

over the weekend? the coast. they're soft waves of up to 60 feet, which, of course, makes for some pretty good surfing, but somewhat sketchy conditions for on-lookers of the event video actually shows that lifeguards having it run into the ocean to rescue people who were swept out to sea by the big waves and no injuries were reported, though, in this incident dicey. and take a look at this video of a huge wave crashing. >> into a residential property. this is the north shore of oahu. you can see the wave broke over that seawall onto the patio furniture. float away there. but if you keep your eye here, look at this. so person, a woman who hops back onto the patio after almost being dragged out to sea by that huge weight. now, scary situation. and we're being told that the only reason why she wasn't. >> you know, taking out to because she was clinging on to that haneke, the giant wave came ashore, jen, but as a has details. >> this was the scene, a key

beach bungalows around 03:30pm, in the afternoon sunday. you see a wave crashed off the wall, pushing all of the lanai furniture towards the bungalows drag them back toward the wall in seconds later, you see a woman climbing over the wall. >> i'm told that the surf was consistently breaking up to this point. one huge rogue wave caught a guest who was relaxing in this panicked off guard. >> gregerson burger, the manager of beach bungalows says he heard the wave hit. >> i dropped everything and i ran up here and lady guess that was in the hammock. just walked out and you know, i asked her what happened. she said she was in the hammock during the whole. >> wave coming in. >> he tells me she was holding onto the hammock for dear life when the way barreled up the shoreline. luckily, she wasn't dragged out in the backwash or injured.
