skies as we go, although was a little chilly in the east bay, particularly revisiting those 30's. >> we didn't do so much that way yesterday because of the winds artificially kept. temperatures supported. we lost that support with the loss of winds. we're now in the 40's. finally livermore. 41, 42 antioch in santa rosa's. join the party of 41. meanwhile, most of the breath of the bays in the 40's, all those still some chilly 30's down south palo alto. 39. 38 fremont and 54. meanwhile, 4 san francisco here gives you quick contrast. we're getting a little closer now to where we were this time from yesterday. current winds, there's a little bit of a shift towards the east that brought a little moisture coming in from the land. actually from the sacramento valley in the recent rains. there's another bout of some offshore winds to redevelop for solano county, particularly in the next about 36 hours or so. today's a similar drill. you're going to get most of the week. temperatures go into the upper 50's lots of sunshine. however, we are again, looking for some offshore winds developing later this week. more all that coming up in a bit around right now. rain was

a checking the traffic, which one now able day, bart still not stopping at that lafayette station because of a medical emergency. so major delays on the antioch line that's been in place for the past 4 to 5 hours. so again, probably going to consistently throughout the day driving into the city right now across the bay bridge, 16 minutes maze to that fremont street exit. >> if you're taking, the san mateo bridge were down from 30 to about. 22. so things are slowly improving there. a richmond, sandra fell bridge about 8 minutes tolls to 101, and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. it's going to take you 40 minutes. were little slow along 101, darya. james, back to you. >> thanks a lot. let's get back to the big story. and 7 people are dead. one person is in critical dish a condition after the shootings that happened yesterday in half happened yesterday in half moon bay. that's where the say a man opened fire to separate. >> agricultural facilities. this map shows you the locations. the top dot was one site of the shooting. the bottom dot was another that marker in the middle of the police substation. that's where they arrested the

suspected gunman. 67 year-old half moon bay resident chun li zhao. he was arrested about 2 hours or so after those shootings. so we've been following the very latest from the shooting scene to tell you what we know at this hour. they're still trying to piece together a motive, which is. >> the big question this morning, kron four's will tran live in half moon bay with what we know will. >> well, we hope to find out a possible motive in 15 minutes from now when they have that news conference. but in the meantime, a lot of their officers from the san mateo county sheriff's department, as i said, james and area, they would be here in full force once the sun comes up and you can see them right behind me. we have 3 squad cars right here just to make sure that people don't go any further. then this location. this is crime scene. number one, right over my left shoulder. it is being preserved to allow those investigators to go through here today and the days ahead to possibly find more weapons

possibly involved in all of this. think about this james and darya. 24 hours ago, 7 people woke up. a life. now they're gone because of this man, according to investigators, 67 years-old, chanley zao according to investigators shot and killed his co-workers at 2 locations. let me show you the first location is off a highway. 35. >> james, you talked about it being an nursery. it's about 2 miles from downtown half moon bay, right? so people were here working at the time, according to investigators shortly after 2.20 in the afternoon, the 67 year-old man comes to this scene opens fire on 5 people. 4 people died. not even sure they had a chance to survive their injuries if they were even rushed to the hospital. we do know that one person is in the hospital this morning fighting for his or her life. then

before they even had a chance to respond. investigators say, shall gets into his suv drives only a couple of minutes. we know that because they say crime scene number 2 is only a mile and a half from this particular scene here. and then he gets to that scene. investigators say that's when he shot 3 people making it a total of 7 people who were killed on his rampage. we've got a chance to talk to people in this very close knit community. it's a very small town. 12,000 people at best, many of them know each other. and of course, we didn't take them very long to find out about that for years. >> he was i mean, i would have never thought something like this would happen in a small, close community. we're all very close. we all know each other. we know our neighbors. we know that people who work within our community, it was. yeah, it was heartbreaking.

>> okay. so we do know this as well from the investigators and hopefully more information will come out in about 10 minutes or so from now. but they did say the 67 year-old man came to the scenes and opened fire on many of his co-workers farm workers. many of them were inside their trailers next to the field and then he's they said that he actually shot some people in the fields and it wasn't just the adults, james and area, according to investigators, many other kids them being farmworkers. many other kids were here as well. and they witness the rampage. >> back to you. all thank you so much. well for that update, we've got more on the kids talking about what they're doing for the children who witnessed it. but we want to talk about right now is the gunman. we've got team coverage and michael thomas has been covering what we know about him. yes, let's get to him live now. also in half moon bay, michael. >> yeah, the da's office says that charges are not going to be filed today. they'll be

filed tomorrow. that's also when the suspect is said to have a felony arraignment that will take place over the hall of justice in redwood city around one 30, the let's get you more details on the suspect himself. take a look at this is 67 year-old kenley zao. now he is a half moon bay resident and officials believe he was employed at one of the 2 agricultural farms. he was arrested yesterday around 4 in the afternoon. and we have some video of that that we're going to show you. police were searching the area from the room suv at the time, which was spotted in front of the sheriff's substation with the suspect sitting inside. officials made the arrest without any incident, but still a traumatic arrest was a press conference that was set to take place just before this happened soon after police first tree, a semiautomatic handgun from the suv which is believed to be the one he used in the shootings just down the road from here the sheriff's office says they believe that sound does have a spouse in the area but still confirming we spoke one of the city manager's this morning had

this to say about the this point, the families that have been impacted are safe. they're secure. they they're in hotels. >> and so what we're really looking for is financial support. they're not able to they can't go back to the farms right now and all losses meeting that effort. so people go to all lost dreams dot com. you can make a donation. all that money will go directly to these now, just about 2 minutes before we went to there was a gentleman here. he was going into the sheriff's office. he says that his ex-wife works at one of the 2 farms and he said he got a call from her yesterday around >> but before 3 o'clock and he said he told her pick up the kids and he has not heard from her since you guys will hear from in the next half hour. but that's all that we have for right now. we'll send it back to us live in the thanks for that update, michael. we also want you to see what the president >> has had to say about this latest mass shooting in california. quote, jill and i are praying for those killed in the shooting and he goes on

to say it's the second time in days california communities have been mourning the loss of loved ones due to senseless gun violence. the president says administration is ensuring local authorities and the half moon bay community. they have the full support of the federal government. and we've also heard from the governor as well. governor newsom tweeting yesterday evening. >> in his reaction to the shooting, he was actually at a hospital near la meeting with victims of the mass shooting in monterey park. that happened over the weekend when he was pulled aside and told about what was happening in half moon bay and he referred to those shootings as tragedies upon tragedies. the governor says he will be visiting half moon bay today, although we don't know the exact details of his visit. the governor's office hasn't announced those detail plans just yet. and we spoke with the half moon bay mayor debra penrose about what happened with the city is doing. and here's some of what she had to say. >> i think the city is on top as much as you can be in a situation like this. we don't

have all of the information yet. we are pleased that the shooter has been apprehended and apprehended without difficulty by our sheriff's office. thank god for that what we need to be looking at is why did this happen? and that's not easy easy question to answer. but i can tell you this. we don't have the money for mental health care. in our community or anywhere in'the united states of america. and we have too many guns. >> and the mayor says she is working to support the farm workers has affected and their families and specifically and most importantly, those children who witnessed the shootings. >> simply too many guns in this country. and there has to be a change. this is not an acceptable way for modern to to live its conduct its affairs. this is something the we get to watch on the news.

one person was killed and 7 other people were shot and injured when this shooting happened around 6 o'clock last night. it was right here at the valero gas station to see on macarthur boulevard at seminary avenue. and this is video from the citizen app of the scene after police got there and taped off and started investigating the shot spotter system went off. they did find several shell casings at the scene, but they couldn't find any victims soon after multiple victims started showing up at hospitals with gunshot wounds. one person died. the others are listed in stable condition. >> and this just in to the kron 4 news room forty-niners defensive lineman charles, a man who has been arrested for domestic violence charges. san jose police say that a man who was arrested about 4.30 yesterday afternoon after they got a 9-1-1, call when they arrived, an adult female claim that she had been pushed to the ground by her boyfriend who she identified as a man who san jose police say a man who cooperated with police and was later booked into the

santa clara county main jail for misdemeanor domestic violence charges. he was also served with a restraining order. the forty-niners haven't released a statement yet on what happened or whether this impacts a man whose availability for this weekend's nfc championship game on sunday. but we'll let you know if we find out. >> i

additional information about the case. lose out. the 66 year-old male resident is a resident of half moon bay. the semiautomatic handgun was legally purchased and owned. the victim at the hospital is out of surgery in stable. victims. were adults in a mixture of hispanic and asian. dissent. 7 males and one female. only known connection between the victims and the suspect is that they may have been cw-workers. the coroner's office will is still working on identification of the victims and notifications of next of kin. as some of these victims were members of our migrant community. this represents a unique challenge when it comes to notifications and identifications of next of kin. on the evidence, we have points to this being the instance of workplace violence. the mountain

mushroom farm. the first location is where the subject was employed. i'd like to hand it off to know our district attorney steve wagstaffe. thanks, sheriff. >> good morning. i'm steve wagstaffe from the district attorney. and the my job now is to inform you where the case will go. kate sheriff's office is submitting the case to today. we will review it. the arraignment will not be this afternoon as was first put out. it will be tomorrow afternoon. at one 30 here in this building courtroom for a the custody courtroom. the charges have not yet been determined because until we review all of the information we will make that decision later today or tomorrow morning. and again, charges obviously involve the homicides involved. the sheriff just i want to make a specific reference to the fact that i have been briefed on the sheriff's office investigation of this case.

cases like this. we've never had one in this county of this many deaths at one seat for one time. and so it's a very hectic scene. the sheriff's office did a magnificent job investigating this case. i'm very proud to have the sheriff's office is our colleagues and share of corpus as my colleague. the work was done extraordinarily well. but again, in terms of precise detail, we're not going to be giving out a lot of precise detail. what was said. this is a case that is at the beginning stage. it has a long road to travel over the coming months and years. and to that extent, we don't want to try it out in the public eye. but instead we will ultimately handle this case and one of the courtrooms in that building. so now we'll turn it back for any questions that may exist for >> good morning. my name is a man down on the sheriff's piano and i'll take any questions. it was a legally

purchased a firearm. a we're not releasing that information. was a semiautomatic handgun. let's first make and we're not releasing it. so he did not actively surrender to us. he was located in his vehicle in the parking lot of the half of a substation. one of our deputies located the vehicle there and recognize that from the information we have from the scene. at that point, he started giving the subject commands. the subject was still seated in the vehicle the subject exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. joined in the we did. we have the suspect information as well as suspect vehicle

we did not really learned many new details other than they said, a workplace workplace we know the da has the case. now they say the suspect, 67 year-old trying joe is going to be arraigned tomorrow afternoon facing homicide charges. and at this point next of kin notifications are underway. but as you heard the sheriff say, because of the migrant worker situation to dealing with notifying next of kin has proved challenging up to this. so what we're really waiting for more details about the motives. you know, more about the circumstances. they wouldn't even say. >> if these specific people were targeted. so they want go that far in the investigation. but will keep digging. and we'll give you all the new details that we can as we i'm 2

>> 9.30, right now. want to reset and get a look at the weather. yes, as we head outside behind us here, you'll see blue skies. lot of sunshine, dave, in the weather center talking about our forecast for today. hey, dave, james and darya. good morning and good morning. everybody still dry as it will be all this week here and a blue skies as well here in the east bay shoreline. all lit up here. >> it's been taking a while in the east bay to get some temperature movement. finally in the last 2 hours, we finally get to see some 40's out there. but it the 30's a lot this morning had some cooling overnight because we didn't have much wind support keeping the temperatures artificially high this afternoon. we'll be as lofty in terms of highs there as we'll see in the north and south bay. 55, meanwhile, for oakland, san francisco, 56, those are actually the warmest spots currently around the bay. now, the temperature contrast for you is we're actually a little head in a couple of little pockets trailing in livermore, san jose and for fairfield as we start to catch up a little bit, winds have been trending a little bit from the east and the will reset from the north as we get into tomorrow, probably afternoon and

overnight to thursday morning we have another offshore wind event keeping it sunny all day today. generally speaking, most readings will be in the 50's, but we do see some selective 60's happening. we'll be talking about that in the 4 zone forecast in a bit as well as that extended right now. rain is standing by with an update on traffic was going on yesterday. looking at the map, are still fairly busy across a lot of our highways. >> traveling along 5, 18, 80 through richmond and reveal you're busy there through the maze right now. 8 80's pretty backed up through danville along 6.80, a little further down along traveling so still busy conditions even across our highways in the south bay. that's 101. 85 in 87. you're certainly seeing some traffic 18 minutes into the city right now. not remember if you're taking bart today are trying to still not stopping at that lafayette station. they had a medical emergency there. so that's been shut down and that's slowing things down across the antioch line. 60 80 to 101 heading across towards the peninsula at about 52 minutes along 1, 0, 1, 85 into park darya. james, back to

you. all right. let's get back to the big story that we're covering them. the mass shooting in half moon bay, 7 people were killed. >> one in critical condition. and we just got the update from the sheriff's office about where this case is going to go against the alleged shooter. and you can see on the map there, 3 indicators, 2 of them were sites of the shootings. >> the 3rd, the sheriff's substation is actually where the gunman was taken into custody, identified as 66 year-old half moon bay resident john lee shao arrested couple of hours after the bullets started flying. so now we know a little bit they've updated his age in now where the case is going to go. the motive. still a mystery, though, just a workplace shooting. let's go to kron four's. >> will tran is following it from half moon bay with the latest. what did you glean from that press conference? well, what we do know that he excuse me. we do know that he works at this location right behind me. we're coming up on 24 hours. >> since according to

investigators, he burst into this scene here and opens fire on his fellow co-workers. and you can see all of the investigators are here. if they are preserving this scene, we're seeing more investigators arriving this time wearing suits. so we're seeing some of that top brass people arrived to the scene as they preserve it to allow investigators to continue to go through here in today and the days ahead, looking for more evidence and trying to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. we do know that 5 people were shot here. let me quickly pull up a picture of him. they have updated as information is not 67. he 60 66 years old. his name is lee zao of half moon bay. he works at this location. not exactly sure how long he's been an employee, but according to investigators, he comes here shortly after 2.20, in the afternoon, workplace violence.

that's the only term that they're saying. so very generic. not exactly sure who he was targeting, where if the entire group was targeted, but he opens fire on people. 4 people died one person rushed to the hospital. and the update is that person is out of surgery and in stable condition today before officers could even respond to this location. according to investigators, he hops into his suv drives several minutes from this location. and we know that because it was only a mile and a half from this location. investigators say that's when he opened fire on 3 people. there, making it a total of 7 people killed. they were migrant farm workers, mixture of hispanic, as well as asian descent. they do know that there were families at the scene because there migrant workers and that they were kids. but the update that we have learned is they're not exactly sure if the kids themselves a witness the massacre, but they are

handling the kids as best as they possibly can. we also do know that according to investigators that he shot people inside their trailers. and it looks like some of the trailers over there. they are being preserved as well. not only inside the trailers, according to investigators that he also went into the field and shot some of the victims. >> back to my cash. okay. thank you. will. >> well, let's continue our coverage there in half moon bay into the shooting into the arrest of the suspected gunman because they did speak briefly about that during the press conference as well. now let's go to michael thomas for the very latest on what we know about the gunman and where we go from here. michael. >> yeah, well, we do know charges will be pressed to tomorrow. now officials say that will happen over the hall of justice in redwood city. they say that he will have an arraignment for a felony arraignment at around one 30. but take another look a this is a suspect that we're

talking about. 66 year-old chanley zao know he's a half moon bay resident and officials believe he was employed at one of the 2 agricultural farms. he was arrested yesterday around 4 in the afternoon and we've got video of that arrest. you can see police were searching the area for a maroon suv. and at that they spotted in the sheriff's substation with the suspects sitting in the car. they would have made that arrest without any major incident, but still a traumatic arrest. now, soon after police semiautomatic handgun from the suv, which is believed to be the one used in the shootings just down the road. the sheriff's office says they believe that so does have a spouse in the area, but we're still confirming in just about 30 minutes ago and then came here to the sheriff's office and said that he has not been able to get in contact with his ex-wife. she called him yesterday, but then she abruptly hung up right before saying that he needed to pick up the kids. i need to know what's going on.

>> it's 9.41, and today nurses from john myhre behavioral health center in concord are going to be picketing. they say they want to raise awareness about under staffing at a high turnover rate at the facility. they are asking the hospital to hire more nurses and ensure that they are adequately trained. that picketing is going to be starting later today. it's an informational picket at 3 o'clock in front of the

downhill. temperature-wise after that and probably some snow coming because it looks like we might get a chance of rain happening on the home front 40's inland. finally, we saw 30's just about a l this morning, very slow to get those temperatures to move santa rosa up to 41 as well. 52 novato 54 43 rather for san jose and it looks like 48 for hayward back to those winds. again, they've been a little bit from the east and the kind of rest that we early on and they shift back north again. so here comes out pouring of that dry air from up north right across the breath of the bay. although the intensity is not going to be felt everywhere, it's going to favor certain locations might have some statement or so pop with all of this again, because a recent rains, we don't see fire concerns with it. so the long-range forecast goes like this waiting until the weekend. here we go. that by sunday may be getting some rain showers working here perhaps and on into the early following week. then a break and then another system from a different direction. this is more of what we've got early in the month. what we just showed you there. that's more
