5:00 am
good news this morning. as you're waking up this morning at a john standing by in the weather center with a look at the forecast and this is the break we've been waiting for, yeah, this is the break. even waiting for all the snails and earthworms are sad about it. but the rest of us. >> happy to finally get a dry day because it is much needed with the last dry day we've had for the entire bay area, believe her die was january first. so this is something right here for sure what we're looking out out there at the golden gate bridge is nice. clear conditions right now. absolutely savor every moment of today because it is going to get wet again this weekend plan, those appointments, those outdoor walks, anything that you've been delaying. we do see showers to the north of us, but that's where they're going to stay continuing a march up into the north coast and eventually into oregon. so we are nice and calm today to flood warnings do remain one around force ville. we have unfortunate news up there yesterday with the finding of a individual who did pass away due to flooding as well as
5:01 am
flood warning up in mendocino county. aside from those 2 all flood watches have now expired. so a nice break from a lot of those factors. winds are also a lot calmer. and not only is it the driest day set to be the warmest day. this forecast right now where the upper 50's we're going to be in the low 60's this afternoon. although mostly cloudy, you will see some peeks of sunshine. so do enjoy it as much as possible. reyna. this is also going to make for a much easier morning commute. much easier morning drive for sure. >> so money to westbound between upper and lower skyline boulevard. they have that closed down. so you can't use that today. but if you are traveling along 101, or 2.80, no major issues there and you can't get through the bay bridge right now. 8 so that fremont street exit. how about our san mateo bridge? 80 to 1, 0, one 12 minute drive. no rain to slow you down. a richmond sandra fell bridge puts us at about 7 minutes and the tolls as you're traveling golden gate bridge. 37, there
5:02 am
are about 20 minute drive darya. james, back to you. thank you. ran a 501. and new this morning, a massive tree collapsed overnight onto a roof of a church. yeah. and some cars to were damaged by trees falling in the church parking lot with kron four's will tran standing by live in foster city with the story. >> will good morning. >> good morning, james. they definitely need today to dry out because if it gets any weather, maybe even more damage. look at this. this happened at around 11 o'clock last night. the tree just split in half like an ax takes to it. but it was not an accident. wasn't lightning. it look like just it was an old rotted tree in that storm didn't help things split right down the middle and it is leaning against the building here. you might be able to see will zoom in. look at that white jeep cherokee at fell right on top of that. talk about inches or to the right of your screen right there?
5:03 am
well, i can tell you it is not damage whatsoever. let me show you some video. it appears that nobody was hurt. fortunately, it happened at a time when a lot of people were still inside. i am sure they heard. crackling of the tree. this looks like a tall, older tree. so i'm sure arborists will come out of one. find out exactly what happened. and of course, to remove it, they came out so quickly. the foster city police department that they actually have crime scene tape all the way around and just to make sure that people are not getting any closer, if we can come back out live now, james taria, thank goodness it is not raining this morning, but the damage already done. you only can you zoom in on the tires. it looks like this car said, forget this. i am moving it. you don't have to tell me twice. look at the front right tire. it looks like it's melting into the soil. that's how wet it is. back to you.

>> an incredible scene out there. we'll thank you very much. thanks. well, we do have some encouraging. water supply marin. water says that all of their reservoirs are now at full capacity as we would expect with storms like and more rain is expected this weekend. so kron 4 sarah stinson is on that story for us up in marin county. >> good morning, sara. >> good morning. that's right. very encouraging to hear that all 7 reservoirs, marin county at full capacity, 100%. we love to hear it, especially after we've endured such intense storms. take a look at the reservoirs from our county before when they were not at capacity. you can see it was very dry and it was not anywhere close to near full capacity. actually, they this time last year the reservoirs are at 95%, but it makes a big difference. you can see in the pictures this was from june 21st of last year and the average storage of is full around 78% full. so 70% of the it's full we still have more
5:05 am
sain ahead of us. the water district expects rainfall totals and reservoir levels to continue to break annual averages thus encouraging. but now the county water officials, they must work out a strategy to maintain these levels. the water supply originates from rainfall on our mount tam watershed in ending the grassy hills of west marion flowing in to these 7 reservoirs now statewide. let's talk about it. water reservoirs are at 78%, many at least partially replenished by the winter storms. but unfortunately, the largest reservoirs like lake sonoma are still below their historical average is sitting at around 40% shows you how much work needs to be done. still up, though, from a month ago. now, everyone just wants to know, ok, so where are we at with the drought and the state water officials, they say that they won't know the effect of these storms until later this year. so unfortunately, we don't have a definitive answer for you. but of course, this water is
5:06 am
encouraging its good. but will it get us out of this drought? unfortunately, right now, no. but later, perhaps we'll have to see it. darya. james, back to you. all right. thank you very much, sara. and and let's continue our coverage from marin county because the storm dumped so much rain on them yesterday. >> i was in traffic on one on one. you couldn't see a thing. there were landslides, road closures. evacuations. the landslide. the one that happened yesterday is just off of bolinas road public works. crews put a sign out there and limited traffic to one lane. further up, the road was shut down all the way to the highway because of debris, debris that was everywhere. >> so the greeks who are pretty well, instrumented, we still have a lot of water draining down to the watershed. watching increase very closely. we've got certainly some localized flooding. >> manager for marion county emergency services said that
5:07 am
flooding is a major concern as of yesterday. the creeks are rising, backed up storm drains getting worse. and so you're advised again, don't drive through flood waters. don't let your kids play in flood water. that type of thing. make sure you sign up for alerts. >> but at least today we get a break. >> well, 507. sad to report this. but up in the north bay woman was found dead trapped in her car wednesday submerged in floodwaters up in sonoma county. that woman identified as 43 year-old daphne fun. tino of ukiah was reportedly swept off of that road and getting stuck in a flooded field in forestville. it's about 10 o'clock or so on tuesday that it happened. she called 9-1-1 for help. but then the call disconnected. and despite dispatchers best efforts to get first responders to the scene, they were unfortunately too late and unable to locate the underwater car until yesterday.
5:08 am
>> the water had receded overnight and we were able to find her sadly, we found her in her car. she did not make >> officials say a tragic reminder just how dangerous it is to drive on flooded roads. it's the second storm related death. now the county in less than a week. a potentially dangerous dip in the road has forced the closure of a section of westbound highway 92 towards half moon bay, at least until further notice. take a look. we have video here, but the chp says this dip looks like it could become a sinkhole if the roadway state open. and that's the worry that could open up and swallow cars. this is just west of where 92 connects with highway 35 and skyline boulevard westbound lanes of 92 now closed from there, 2 pillow to pillar see those creek road. chp says that eastbound lanes are still open, but the westbound can't use on the peninsula. people who lived in belmont at a mobile home community. they're still dealing with the aftermath of the new year's eve storm. yeah, that was a
