>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 4. >> well, good morning and thank you for waking with us bright and early for the kron. 4 news today is january. the 12th thursday and just a day away from friday and a what we've been seeing in terms of stormy weather over the past few days where meteorologist john's raible has been tracking that. john, how long is a break in alaska? a much-needed break this morning. and one of the only breaks that you're getting in this forecast or at least have seen in a while, either. >> we're looking out there at some dry skies this morning. love to see it morning commute. that's going to feel like a breeze compared to

where we've been. do you still watch for some wet spots from all that water piled up over the past few days? but no new rain falling actively and that means that we're looking at some nice clear conditions out there right now. you see still us a few flood reports up around the guerneville area on towards forestville still have some standing water up there. but the south bay, nice and dry as is the rest of the bay area. there's rainfall to the north and west of us. that's where it's going to stay today. we will see a few showers possible in the north bay today. but that's about all we've got. you can see in future cast hour by hour here. just really how quiet today is not a whole lot going on. a few passing clouds, skies generally clearing as we move into the afternoon, though. so very nice and calm one for us. definitely want to capitalize on because you know what's about to happen tomorrow? another round of rainfall pushing in and at times some heavy rainfall into your friday continued into saturday and sunday. as for the north mention this flooding conditions right around forest bill and on up towards you,

kyle. long 101. these are 2 remaining flood warnings that we have an effect. this one right around forest bill is set to expire this morning, but still under a flood warning there, future cast of wind gust showing much calmer conditions today. temperatures nice and mild. most of us are sitting in the 50's mountain view oakland and berkeley at 57 degrees. san francisco at 56 degrees. and overall, as we work through the day, only getting nicer today, not just our driest day of the forecast. also our warmest one in with some peeks of sunshine. those 60's going to feel really nice talking more about what to expect today and for the rest wet weekend. ahead around the corner. still to count. all indoors on for the weekend. thanks for that, ok, state route. 92 that's closed in both directions at closures from upper state route. 35. >> skyline boulevard to pillar see chills creek wrote. that's along the peninsula. the no major delays across any of our bridges. 7 minutes maze to that fremont street exit, the san mateo bridge, 80 to 1, 0,

one, 13 minutes as you head across towards the peninsula. a richmond center fell bridge. put you at 7 minutes tolls to 101, and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 22 minutes. on the peninsula. people who lived in the belmont mobile home community. >> are still dealing with the aftermath of the new year's eve storm. you have several homes that were flooded, forcing many families to start their new year elsewhere. kron four's gayle ong tells us how the red cross is now helping people. >> heavy rain on new year's eve cause major flooding in san mateo county. photos show the water reaching homes at the belmont trailer park neighborhood in belmont. one resident who shared these pictures tells kron 4. several homes were flooded with water that reached as high as 4 feet. and a series of back to back storms did not help the situation. residents have been gone from home for nearly a week and they have come back. >> when they tried to go into their homes, they realize that

they have water inside that there was more. >> and some of their homes, not all of them, were not really in barber would is a red cross volunteer in san mateo county resident. she has been helping evacuees. we are providing a >> dry, warm, safe place to sleep. we have meals for them. we have a few supplies. we have diapers. you know, we have showers, the senate and county fairgrounds is one of dozens of fairgrounds in the state that cal oes uses in the event of an emergency. dana stories, the ceo with our staff on call. we have wrap around services. >> many of the buildings, but we have the tables and chairs, refrigerators. stoves, ovens, all kinds of things you would think you necessarily need an emergency. but you find out quickly you do. and this red cross shelter will be available as long as it's needed reporting from san mateo go on kron. 4 news. >> well, a potentially dangerous dip in the road is forced the closure of a section of highway 92 towards

half moon bay. until further notice. we'll take a look. chp says this dip could become a sinkhole if they're always stayed open. this is just west of where 92 connects with highway. 35 skyline boulevard westbound lanes in 92 are closed from there to pillar see, just could grow. just talked about that in traffic. chp says eastbound lanes are going to remain open for now. marin county got hit pretty wednesday as the storm dumped even more rain. residents face landslides, road closures and even evacuations. four's terisa stasio was in mill valley and brings us their story. yellow caution tape stretched over the driveway of this 3 unit complex. >> on shoreline and mill valley after growing concerns of a landslide. us we've actually are engineers out there working but it appears that it's it's isolated to of course, what it are much use the risk is or isn't much bigger. slight coming. >> is it stable now the area

where the slide came sent undermined houses, things like that. so that just looking at the meeting impact, period, the what might happen, plenty baker cone is the assistant emergency manager of marin county, another landslide. the county dealt with on wednesday was here off of bolinas road. >> section gave way public works. crews put in a signal and limited traffic to one lane. however. >> further upon bolinas, the road was shut down all the way to highway one due to falling so 2 are pretty well. instrumented. >> we still have a lot of water draining down to the watershed. watching increase very closely. we've got certainly some localized flooding. baker cohn says flooding became a major concern late in the day as creeks swelled. >> backing up storm drains which spilled onto streets like here on miller avenue in mill valley, a near by sycamore lane. a residential section was closed for a few hours until the water receded.

but police kept this area off locus close longer due to deep water with this storm delivering some punches. baker cone emphasized, well, residents need to be prepared and heed warnings to stay out of the flood waters. >> keeping kids out of flood waters, people playing them sometimes often their sewage, rather. >> contaminants in the water so don't do that. and then sign up for emergency alerting. that's the best way we can tell you to get down the stairs and back you ation necessary. the city of mill valley open up the community center for those who had to be evacuated at this complex. >> and engineers plan to come out in the morning to reassess the land side to see if there is a bigger problem out here in mill valley. theresa kron, 4 news. >> you go down to the ft. >> we'll take a look at this

swift water rescue in hollister. the oakland fire department stepped in to help after these 2 people we're trapped. will top of their truck by fast-moving flood waters. this happened around 11, 30 tuesday night in hollister, right? south of gilroy, oakland firefighters joined in that rescue operation as part of the governor's office of emergency services, water rescue team. now the rescue team to use ladders. other tools to rescue those 2 people. no injuries were reported. another person has died as a result of the recent storms to california yesterday morning. the sonoma county water rescue team recovered the body. a 43 year-old daphne, fun tino of ukiah. her car became submerged on tuesday morning in a flooded area. oft written helzberg road in forest hill. kron four's rob nesbitt report. it took search and rescue more than 20 hours to find her vehicle. according to sheriff's office, daphne

fatino call 9-1-1 to let them know that she was stuck in her car and this water behind me. >> but it took nearly 24 hours before her body was found. it was just after 10:00am tuesday when noes call to 9-1-1. for help was disconnected. calls back from dispatch went unanswered. but her location in this flooded field and forest il was pinpointed, according to misty, would with the sonoma county sheriff's office. everybody was on scene pretty quickly. >> but by the time we arrived, we want people to see her car. we were able to find her. >> 2 helicopters, a marine unit, several deputies and the sonoma county fire district swift water rescue. still the area all day calling off the search when conditions became too dangerous. after dark. the search resumed wednesday morning. at first light, the water had receded overnight and we were able to find her sadly, we found her in her car. she did not make get the 43 year-old's body was found 100 yards from the road under 10 feet of water. >> the roof of her car now visible from the road. he knows death marks the second storm related death in sonoma

county in less than a week. it's been a rough, you know, week or so for a couple of families here. the first was 2 year-old keon tocchini who was killed when a tree fell on his occidental home. heavy downpours, the flooded roadways, the thunder and lightning, the trees falling. these are life threatening situations that we can find ourselves. and karen hancock with the sonoma county fire district says her crews have been flooded with emergency calls. >> on monday to drivers had to be rescued on slusser road just 2 miles from where front he knows body was found. officials asking drivers to avoid flooded roadways and take the sign seriously, preventing another search and rescue or worse. it's very, very difficult to tell how deep it is or how fast that water is moving and things can happen. really, really quickly, please just don't drive around the signs. just turn around, use an alternate route route. give yourself extra time. if you're trying to get to work, turn around, don't drown. in forestville. rob nesbitt kron 4 news. so a flood watch is in effect this morning for parts of sonoma

county for areas around the russian river. numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. now streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from previous rainfall. and some encouraging news for our water supply. marine water says all 7 >> of its reservoirs are now at capacity. you can see the difference from this date last year when the reservoirs are only at 95% of capacity with more rain in our forecast, the water district expects its reservoir levels too, continue to outpace their annual averages for the next few weeks. coming up next on the kron, 4 morning news. one member, this video from the citizens app, a pileup on the bay bridge on thanksgiving day. the details now on how this all happened. plus, bar is investigating a cyber attack is cyber security expert sharing his thoughts on who may be responsible and the information that may have been exposed. and an abortion bill passed by republicans in the

welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. a time for us now for 14 here on a thursday. wow, we had very rainy, gusty stormy days over the past few days. and we finally finally get a break. can we really call it a great job?

>> yeah, it's a short break. so i think that's what you're going get that much-needed one. yes, much needed break for sure. we're taking a break from the rainfall today. yesterday we saw a lot more of it. san francisco got nearly an inch yesterday. while richmond just over that mill valley in campfield around 2 and a half inches. so this break absolutely much-needed. today we're looking at dry conditions out there across the bay area. love to see it from the coastline all the way out. you can see that we do have showers in the vicinity, but those are going to be marching their way further north of the bay area. north bay is really the only spot that could see even a slight chance of a couple of sprinkles. so thursday, the day to be getting outside, enjoying as much as possible. come tomorrow. rainfall makes its return. and towards friday saturday and sunday, a very wet weekend is around the corner. so definitely capitalize on today's dry conditions. before we get our way back to some weather stuff around the corner. so wet

conditions monday on into tuesday, too. so it's just a very unsettled weekend ahead of us. this is where we're sitting in satellite and radar. you can see that future cast shows just a few clouds today, generally clearing towards the afternoon. we will see a return of rainfall tomorrow morning. you can see at 08:45am here. rainfall offshore. just starting to work its way into point rays as well as northwest sonoma county dropping into the bay looking likely around 10:00am tomorrow. timing could have just a little bit. but yeah, late morning it's looking like we should start to see things picking up and then some heavier pockets towards tomorrow afternoon. rainfall does continue on into saturday and sunday as well. so the weekend ahead, going to be one to probably see some more indoor activities rather than in the outdoor options where we're sitting with flood warnings. we still do have those around force ville on the russian river as well as up in the mendocino county, low-lying elevations along 101. and we're set to go back into winter storm watches

starting tomorrow afternoon through tuesday afternoon. so that's going to encompass the whole weekend. there. today's a good travel day. but your travels back this weekend, going to get a little rocky, as you can see friday, saturday and sunday snowfall returning for the weekend ahead. high temperatures today will be in the 60's. it's not just our driest of the forecast. it's also where most mild of the forecast too, after this. we cool back down to the 50's and you see what happens. we look at rainfall from saturday through monday, just a chance of showers on tuesday and increasing again into wednesday rain. all right, john, thank you for let's get a look at the bridge is heading into the city. 7 minutes. >> things are pretty quiet there. but if you are the san mateo bridge 80 to 101, just a 30 minute drive. but chp is telling us that state route. 92 is now closed in both directions. so that's on the peninsula side. that closure is from the upper state route. 35 scotland bullet far 2 pillow ceitus creek road k that's going to be close

because of the stormy conditions and some things you have to clean up there. all center fell bridge a 7 minute right? and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 20 minutes. california's congressional delegation is working with the biden administration to get federal aid for the state to deal with the storms. democratic lawmakers say the severe weather is affecting our state and highlights the need to address the larger issue, which is climate change. the inflation reduction and infrastructure laws. both contain measures to fight climate change. some argue they're not doing quite enough. >> it's only going to reduce emissions in the united states. 40%. he's still a 60% to go. we have to get china and india on board. let's put it trillion dollars a year in getting solar and wind and battery in high-speed rail. >> republicans say the state has failed to prepare for the current storms on another level as some of california's reservoirs start to fill up.

farmers are asked to flood their fields. republicans contend that will negatively impact the nation's food crops and farmers. the first announced challenge for the seat now held by senator dianne feinstein, his southern california congresswoman katie porter. she jumped into the race this week. border talk to kron four's catherine heenan who asked her washington not wait for senator feinstein to announce her own plans. >> they have tremendous respect for senator feinstein and she'll make her decision on whether to or retiring. i respect that this is a huge, state and urgency of the problems facing this country are tremendous. so i feel like i need to take this very seriously understand urgency of what's going on. what's at stake for california and for the country in this moment. i understand you intend to run regardless of what senator feinstein decides to do. is that correct? yes, i think

just one week into the 100 18th congress. house republncans say they're working to protect the unborn all children should be welcomed with joy and wonder no matter the circumstances of their birth, missouri republican congresswoman ann wagner sponsored a bill to require doctors to provide full medical care to babies born during an attempted abortion. we must act with compassion to protect these little ones and give women a strong support system. the house passed the bill on wednesday almost entirely along party lines. south carolina republican congresswoman nancy mace supported the bill but was critical of the timing. i think it sends the wrong message at the wrong time right now, especially in the first week of congress. republicans also pushed forward a bill to protect her life facilities like churches from acts of violence who could be opposed to that. i support unless they also recognize the violence against those who

a shortage is raising prices at the grocery store. >> experts say bird flu coupled with increased feed fuel and labor costs are actually to blame. now some grocery stores are limiting customers to one carton of eggs. rising prices are especially troublesome for so restaurants like a lot cafe in burlingame. >> the last 6 months there probably double so and in the last week they've gone up $20, a case. and we buy like 2 to 3 to keep our doors open. we have to be able to pay our bills. and so raising the prices are only alternative. >> farmers say they have been replacing their flocks infected with bird flu, which means we could see some easing

difference going. know a dry day, but is yeah, we saw a lot of those before this past about the feels like, you know what? we are looking at a nice solid break from the rain today. one to capitalize on for sure. >> you look outside at the golden gate bridge. sure is. nice this morning. let's get a look outside at coit tower. really quick. and what we're seeing out there is quite a similar view as to what you have at the golden gate bridge right now. there we go. so quite our also nice and clear this morning. a nice break from the rainfall in store for us. we're going to be seeing that continue throughout the day today. showers will continue to march to the north of us. that means the north coast continues to see at times heavy rainfall. but the bay area for the most part, we're sitting this one out today can see hour by hour as we work our way through the day, the only thing we're going to be looking at is a few clouds sifting across the region. nothing in the way of precipitation for most areas side from very northern sonoma county. then up into lake and mendocino counties. you'll also see a few showers enjoy it because tomorrow during morning hours, rainfall pushes
