showers over the new year's weekend causing major flooding damage, power outages. even some folks needing to be rescued from their submerged cars. it was bad. and now the region here is bracing for yet another major storm kron four's amanda hari shows us how people. >> in alameda are getting ready. >> for many residents here in alameda, it feels like the storms are never ending this street behind me here for inside boulevard was partially flooded over the weekend. now, all that water has receded, but people here tell me they're just bracing for more water, something you'd never expect to see a man kayaking down the road in alameda by monday. most of the flooding was gone with more rain in the forecast. the city put up this post notifying residents of a sandbag station. i saw the facebook post read what lee was one of many alameda residents driving around city hall west looking for the station. i'm behind. >> city hall west. and i don't see a courtyard and i don't
9:03 pm
see sandbags. people took to facebook asking in the comments section if the sandbags were gone. >> one comment said driving all over and can't figure out where they're supposed to be. someone told me off camera. they found a location but by 05:00pm it was closed just 2 hours after the city posted about the station, what lee says he's willing to try anything to keep his home safe. i don't have a lot of faith in sandbags. i've tried them before. >> but i'm going to try him again. he says he's never seen this much flooding in his 15 years in alameda, he has experienced some water in his garage before on saturday. he was able to prevent it from reaching his home. he's pumps to remove it. now he's getting ready for more rain. my plan is i've got my pumps going now. i've got that. i got the hoses routed. >> where i want them, i'm just going to keep the pumps going and i'm going to keep as much stuff off the ground as i can. he had one message for his
9:04 pm
neighbors. good luck, everybody. hang in there. the water is crazy. the city of alameda we posted on their facebook and twitter accounts to let people know. >> if there will be more sandbags stations in the future in alameda amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> well, most of the bay area now obviously inundated with all that water. and you have some flood and wind watches that have been issued for wednesday into thursday. yeah. >> and the wind a real problem because the routes that lot of trees are kind of loose now and that we could see all kinds yeah, i think that's one of the big things different with this next storm coming through. it was it was windy with the last one. this one may be excessively windy, maybe gusts to 60, maybe even some 70 mile an hour gust specially on the coastline and some of the coastal ranges. but out there tonight, we've got another storm system coming through. keep things wet out there. start to tail off a bit. but well, the damage already done at sfo. look at the delays are 222 minutes. yeah, that's just a mess. things getting backed up there. no delays being reported. and oakland or san jose. but we've got to watch
9:05 pm
out for these storms. these are a powerful, sir storms apart. most powerful i've seen in several years coming through the bay area, at least and well, we're going to see more heavy rain and wind. i think that wind specially kicking in early on wednesday morning like to see the rain begin to pick up early wednesday morning 2. but the winds will really be whipping by that time. i think by that time we could be talking about some of those 40 and those 60 mile an hour gusts, especially along the coastline. the coastal ranges that's likely going to bring down numerous trees around the bay area. maybe some power lines. and though the roots are just so be a soggy now. and so all of a sudden you get winds like that and some of trees are going to come rainfall amounts, maybe not quite as impressive. the least down the urban areas as the previous storm. but so we're talking 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. and i think in some places like the santa cruz mountains actually think we may see a little bit want more where the storm is lining up. we could see maybe as much as 6, maybe 10 inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. so flooding and mudslides, a likelihood around
9:06 pm
the bay area. something to watch out for as we head into tuesday night and into thursday afternoon. that's really when that brunt of the storm is going to come through the i think the heaviest is going to be by about wednesday afternoon through about a thursdaysmorning that will start to taper off. but now we've got to start to worry about some of the major rivers. in fact, we're watching the russian river near guerneville right now. the latest forecast has a rising to about 28.1 feet. the flood stage is actually a 32 feet. that will happen on thursday. now, if the storm system somehow begins to slow down, that means there's going to be a lot more water falling down across this watershed in this area, racing down into the russian river. and we could see that rise even higher. so going to be watching that one very closely. also expecting some flooding in hop lynn as that river will likely crest just above flood stage about 16.5 feet. but all around the bay area. now all the tributaries, all the waterways are in play as things are very saturated out there in these storms continue to come through the latest one, not a huge storm coming through but making things went and keeping that
9:07 pm
ground saturated behind. that, though, we've got a major atmospheric river event that is just beginning to set itself up see this kind of blob of white out here. but it has latched on to some of that tropical moisture all the way down to the hawaiian islands. that is going to come racing across the pacific. and so and says the light rain. we're going to see a major storm rolling in. it looks like on wednesday into thursday. guys. flooding is a likelihood. all right. thank you, lawrence. will. while preparations are underway for that next storm, many businesses are still trying to clean up from the last one over the weekend. others are close with no reopening date in sight. >> kron four's dan kerman has that story. mother nature. >> really slapped us in the face is to. >> when it makes 3 fitness owner, dave character walked into this castor neighborhood gym during saturday storm. what started as a small trickle of water turned into water, gushing from inside the wall. this entire wall was just filled water behind this wall. so all of these holes started just gushing water we

teeth during the pandemic as we were sheltered in place and make a kid in the gym to start with. >> and now we're here getting ready for new year's resolutions which everybody wants to get fit and lose weight. and now our gym is closed at this point. it's unclear just how long this business will remain closed. >> currently, they are redirecting members to their sister facility in the mission in san francisco. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> terrible timing for a gym for the city of san francisco is distributed roughly 8500 sandbags since saturday. the public works department is urging people to save them for folks who really need them like people live in areas prone to flooding or work. there. the city plans get more sandbags within the next few days to the north bay. now, lots of folks out there walking their dogs, stretching the spillway from lake law. the need to send along any heavy rain from over the weekend filling up the creeks coming off mount tam then over

in mill valley. neighbors say that the future storms could knock over trees near their homes. >> we sleep to be safe and we have our fingers crossed for wednesday. as i understand the big rain so hoping that the winds stay calm. >> the threat of flooding, of course, a big concern as rivers and streams do tend to peak and then then take their time to recede. so the flood stage could be breached. >> and remain elevated. well after the rain actually stopped. >> to the east bay. now the storm causing a scene at the oakland zoo. a massive sinkhole at the gates causing the facility there to close down for at least the next few weeks on frozen. noelle bellow spoke with the zoo ceo today about the damage done. >> saturday's historic rainfall caused a covert to collapse at the entrance of the zoo. and with more rain expected this week, engineers are worried that sinkhole could worsen.
9:11 pm
