>> from the bay area's news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6, the bay area get soaked over the holiday weekend and a lot more rain is on the way to kick off the new year. thank you so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 6. i'm justine waltman in for pam moore tonight. i'm ken wayne. let's get right to kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for what we can expect with this next system or not much break between storms. we've got another one coming through right now. this is a much weaker we get a 3rd. >> maybe a half an inch of rain. but what it does is keeps the ground entirely saturated. and that means

well, it is prime for that next storm system to come through with nowhere else for that water to go. it goes running right down to the streams and look or tributaries and rivers and we're going to be worried about flooding again, late on wednesday into thursday, out there right now, the golden gate bridge, very wet. and it's wet like that all around the bay area's moisture continue to roll on shore. more storms to come. in fact, since this past friday, look at the rain amounts all around the bay area. we've had over 6 and a half inches of rain in san francisco. oakland over 6 and a half inches of rain. almost 6 in the quarter in berkeley hayward, almost 5 and a half inches of rain over 5 inches of rain and ben lowman and almost 8 are almost 8 inches of rain in bed. lowman redwood city over 5 inches of rain and everywhere you go all around the bay area. just a ton of rain in a short amount of time. and now we've got yet another major storm bearing down on the bay area. the national weather service has issued a flood watch across the entire bay area starting tuesday night into thursday

afternoon. i think the rain really kicking into gear by wednesday morning. but we'll likely see some flooding as we head toward the afternoon. that's when the brunt of that storm likely to come through and continue into at least thursday morning to go along with that. i think the winds are going to be much more ferocious with this next storm system coming on shore sustain 20 to 30 but possibility of gusts as high as 60 miles per hour. maybe some 70 mile an hour gust along some coastal sections over the coastal range is you'll see be picked up on the models here. the winds really get going starting on wednesday and by out toward the coast. look at - that gust, the 68 half moon 30 mile an hour gusts going to be common elsewhere around the bay area. but likely with the coming down around the bay area. the ground is so saturated. i think more widespread power outages, a real possibility. here's a look at your current storm system right now. this more of just a nuisance storm coming through. no real heavy rainfall, but it really just soaks the ground and they're not going to be much break between that one and the next atmospheric river event.

flooding a major concern as we head toward the middle of week. >> lawrence, thank you. now to the north bay where neighbors spent the day enjoying some of this dry weather before this. next big storm arrives. kron four's charles clifford reports from marin county. >> well, here in marin county on monday was actually pretty nice in the morning. lots of folks out walking their dogs, stretching their legs, taking advantage of the dry weather before the next round of storms arrive. near fairfax monday morning. water was surging down the spillway from lakeland. you need us in the law creek. the extra water was courtesy of last weekend's big storms. there hasn't been this much water flowing here for months. umbrellas in hand, neil cross and his wife or out for a walk around the lake. neal has no problem with the wet weather we needed and >> we just just. and love it. >> over in mill valley, shannon was out walking her dog barley. she and her family lived nearby and are worried about the coming storms knocking over trees near their house. we do not sleep well.

>> on nights with heavy winds we sleep to be safe and we have our fingers crossed for wednesday. as i understand the big rain so hoping that the winds stay calm now hearing or in some rain started to fall around midday on monday. there's going to be a break in the rain. >> on tuesday and then a series of storms rolls into the bay area and the north bay starting on wednesday. but for now in mill valley, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> the heavy rainfall in the bay area over the weekend left a woman stuck in her car outside her home in a san francisco neighborhood. fire officials rescue the elderly woman in the marina district. this was on saturday. you can see here being carried back into her home as someone tries to come in and >> mudslides have forced officials to close a stretch of marsh creek road between morgan territory. road in the round valley. regional preserve. this is until further notice. crews are working to clear the debris that fell onto the roadway. it's they're saying it's just not safe for the public to

use. drivers are encou%aged to take alternative routes and avoid the area. >> well, some businesses inundated with flooding from the weekend. storms are starting to reopen. others are still cleaning up and still others remain closed with no reopening date in sight. tonight, kron four's dan kerman visits. one of those businesses that remains in limbo as the next storm approaches. >> mother nature really slapped us in the face is >> when it makes 3 fitness owner, dave character, walk into this castor neighborhood gym during saturday storm. what started as a small trickle of water turned into water, gushing from inside the w wall. this entire wall was just filled with water behind this wall. so all of these holes started just gushing water we probably cleared out 1000 gallons of >> water. the source of the leak remains unclear. but the suspicion is an overflowing parking lots drainage pipe located between this building

and the one next door ruptured until the cause is identified and repaired. these weights will stay on the rack. and the san francisco small business will remain closed at one of the most critical times of the year. the new year new year's resolutions you can't underestimate how big that is for a fitness business, particularly small neighborhood fitness business. you know? >> we really rely on those first few months of the year to make a bpg chunk of money that supports us throughout the entire year. the wall is now been taken down and with another huge storm due to arrive wednesday, repair crews plan to plug the holes, set up a trough along the wall to collect the water and then pump it out into the street. it's clearly not how this business plan to start the year for a business that really kicked in the teeth during the pandemic as we were sheltered in place make a kid in the gym to start with. and now we're here getting ready for new year's resolutions which everybody wants to get fit and lose weight. and now our gym is closed at this

point. it's unclear just how long this business will remain closed. currently, they are redirecting members to their sister facility in the mission in san francisco. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> well, that sounds bad. this is dramatic video of a dock floating down a raging river and hayward. it happened over the weekend in doncaster regional park. just one of the many examples of the power that this past storm health. >> that's something you can stay connected with. kron 4 for the latest weather conditions as we get through these storms going through northern california will be taken to our weather page where you can find current conditions. the radar of the 7 day forecast and much more. >> a family of 4 survived a scary crash on highway one right near double slide, 2 adults and 2 children had to be rescued after their car went off the road and rolled

nearly 300 feet down the side of the cliff. the youngest was just 4 years old. kron four's rob nesbitt reports from the scene. you can see doubles bunker behind me, a popular tourist spot. but this is also a dangerous spot for drivers today, a family of 4 found themselves at the bottom of the steep cliff. >> rescuers received the call around 10:20am, of a car at the bottom of devil's slide by highway one between pacifica, one, tara chief, brian pottinger with cal fire says a family of 4 was inside the tesla at the time of the crash. but we are right to be able to order 50 to 300 feet down embankment quickly made access to rope rescue system. >> at the height of the rescue, 3 helicopters were in the air. chp cal fire and the coast guard making rescue efforts on the ground and by water discovering a man and woman in the front seats with their 2 children in the back 9 year-old boy and 4 year-old girl. when they left here, they were all >> statement somewhat stable

condition that we believe. however, jurors will be checked at the the rescue last more than 3 hours. and she pottinger says the family is lucky to have survived this crash. >> their tesla now sitting totaled at the bottom of the cliff. this is not the first time rescuers have been called to this section of highway one officials offering advice to those who drive this dangerous stretch of road, especially during a week of inclement weather. we need to slow down. we need to use caution when driving this year, even with the weather is not like just it's a dangerous stretch of road there. roads and close on now that the occupants have been rescued comes the efforts of getting the car. they're using a crane behind me to hoist it up, but it won't be easy. 250 feet down reporting in san mateo county. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> what 2, 3, joe. >> dramatic video captured by a police body camera video showing a heroic effort by officers and good samaritans to help a cyclist who was hit

by a car and then wedged beneath it. this happened about 22 miles south of santa cruz in watsonville. this was early last month. rescuers were able to summon the strength to lift up the car off of the 65 year-old man who was trapped underneath. police say the car had been stolen. they say they had been trying to pull it over, but the driver jumped out of the moving car and then ran off the car, then hit the cyclist and pinned him underneath. the suspect was captured and taken into custody and that cyclists went to the hospital and is still recovering. >> a 73 year-old woman is recovering after her small plane crashed in watsonville. look at this picture. it happened just after 2.30, sunday afternoon at the watsonville airport. officials say the woman who was flying the plane at the time suffered just moderate injuries and is expected to be okay. it's despite this picture. no other people were on board the plane. it's unclear what led up to the crash as of now. >> coming up here at 6 o'clock police and the peninsular

for the live look at fog shrouded to quit tower on this monday rainy night in san francisco. but this is just a taste of what's to come midweek. meteorologist lawrence karnow here now with what we can expect. yeah, they keep lining up one right after another without much of a break. and that's what makes these dangerous is all of a sudden, well, that water's got nowhere to go, but down in the streams and rivers and we start to talk about more flooding and we saw some of that flooding over the weekend and likely going to do so again, not from this storm system. the slider weaker storm, the one behind it that one again, an atmospheric river event. here comes the rain. the heavy rain around the bay area delays at sfo tonight because some of that, the weather out there to 99 minutes about that. if you're planning on somebody's arriving, there are set to head out plan on some delays there, but no delays in oakland other parts of the bay area. heavy rain, though, when likely early on wednesday. that's when that next storm system comes on shore. gusty winds get this a 40 to 60 miles an hour. we might have some gusts as high as 70 along the coastline. think with

everything so saturated, likely going to see more trees coming down this event. that means probably more power outages around the bay area to rainfall. maybe not as heavy as this last storm but heavy enough. they were locked still talking 2 to 4 inches in many urban areas and yet above the mountain tops, you could be talking about 3 to 6 and maybe as much as 8 inches or more in the santa cruz mountains. here comes the struggle system through right now that one just rolling on by bringing that rain to keep things very saturated. but it's this guy out here that just starting to form that's going to be part of that storm system that is going to bring very heavy rainfall in the bay area. still a stormy night out there tonight out on the roads. pretty slick out there. a lot of hydroplaning got to be careful out there on the road for next couple of days. the ground is so saturated. now we're seeing another atmospheric river event and talking about tremendous amounts of rain, mudslides going to be more common flooding going to be more common right now is looking some long range models. i can't find into this and we're talking 15, the 18th a month and these are big storms that are lining up to come right after the next like everything we've been asking for just too

much. it was we should have been asking. so hardly so hard. i mean, it's really coming down. but it's it's time if you haven't already to do what you can to clear storm drains. around her house some neighborhoods, all you have to just go out with a rake and try to help out the public works crews because they're overwhelmed. no kidding, because you see many of those local drainage that are getting flooded in that cause problems elsewhere. also, winds are going to be issued tomorrow. if you have anything around your house that might be blown around, get out there and pick up tomorrow is the day to do it by wednesday morning the winds will be whipping all around the building. thanks for the warning. okay. crews across the bay area are still assessing the damage caused by the rainfall that happened on new year's eve. but in some neighborhoods. >> the devastation is really easy to see. kron four's madyun shows us one road in the east bay that washed out as the new year rolled in. >> you're looking at the san lorenzo creek in castro valley and what's left of the road here at a street in crescent after the storm on new year's eve.

>> i'm shocked and it's wow. have you ever seen anything like this? no, no. >> kind of sad. sad to see it go. and i'm worried about. the rest of this area because it's all creeks winding through here. and there's a lot of properties, a lot of people. yeah, i just hate to see it collapse like this and some worry. >> although there's been a break in the rain. the hazard here is ongoing. alameda county public works. crews are here reinforcing their obstruction of access to this area. you know, i i've never seen anything >> like this, you know, a little minor things. tree falls down. but, you know, this is pretty major. and as you can see by these orange cones and this ghraib area right here. and of course, this road closure sign that the destruction from the storm will impact traffic here for the foreseeable future. with this being blocked off by that. >> these poor neighborhoods are going to be because a lot of people use this road to skip the to thoroughfare. so

get off on jackson.ocome down. jackson clip over here. then get on the freeway here. so now i'm i don't know what i'm going to do in castro valley has menu kron. 4 news. >> san francisco police are pretty busy on sunday responding to 3 separate shootings and stabbings. sfpd says the stabbing happened just after 02:00am when a man and a woman were walking back to their car after visiting a nightclub. that's when police say they were attacked by 2 suspects. police say that the suspect stabbed the man who has been identified as a 28 year-old from antioch and they stabbed him multiple times. he is now in critical condition. the second incident happened about 40 minutes later in the mission. police say after fireworks were set off in that area, a 22 year-old was shot. the victim suffering now from life-threatening injuries. and the 3 o'clock in the morning, a victim told police that he was in a fight when he was shot. police say that the victim is a 28 year-old from san francisco. he sustained non life-threatening injuries.

and police also responded to shots fired in the area of mission street in bay view street. once officers arrived on the scene, they found shell casings but don't believe that anyone was hit by that gunfire. >> on the peninsula, san mateo county officials are asking for your help to try to find this missing toddler. 3 year-old andrea flores was last seen in the 500 block of magnolia avenue in millbrae. police say they believe she's a victim of parental abduction and that she may be with her father identified as victor flores in re case. andrea is 3 feet tall. 36 pounds has blue eyes and brown hair in braids. if you see here, you're asked to call 9-1-1, right away. >> in the south bay, a pedestrian was struck and killed in san jose on new year's eve. police say the victim is a man. he was hit by a gmc pickup truck as he crossed forest avenue near redwood avenue. that's right. outside of the valley fair mall. he was not walking in a marked crosswalk. that's according to police.

paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital where he later died. the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. this accident marks the 63rd fatal crash of 20 of the year 2022. and the 30nd death of a pedestrian for the year. also in san jose, police are investigating a shooting that happened last night. it was on the west san carlos street. >> area just after 06:00pm officers say they arrived to the scene, found a man who had been shot. he was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. police are investigating and so far, no additional information on a suspect or a motive has been released. anyone who might have information is asked to contact san jose police coming up on kron. 4 news at 6. twitter has not been paying its rent on its san francisco headquarters on market street. >> now the landlord is taking ceo elon musk to court. plus a new federal tax credit for electric vehicles is set to begin. we'll break down what it means for new car buyers. kron. 4 news returns in just a moment.

ev purchases. >> that's because according to language in the bill, the current credit, which is $7500 may decrease just several months into the year. officials say provisions related to where and how the electric vehicles components are sourced. we'll change ultimately affecting the amount of the credit. the changes are set to take effect in march of this year. it sounds like a good idea when you're shopping, but the buy now pay later. credit can sometimes have drawbacks. >> the service gives quick approvals to consumers and allows them to get their purchases right away. but regulators and consumer advocates say it lacks important customer protections. they say some borrowers have issues being overcharged or getting refunds. they may also find it difficult to manage multiple loans for purchases which could lead to add on fees or late or missed payments with this in mind, consumer advocates are calling for pay later loans to be regulated like a traditional credit card giving consumers standard disclosures and protections.

while twitter's owner elon musk is starting the year off with some new legal problems, he's being sued in san francisco for not paying rent on twitter's office space. the landlord is suing for just over $136,000 in back, rent musk has been trying to cut back on expenses since he acquired the company in october and with billions of dollars in more debt. kron 4 did try to reach out to twitter for comment. but the company has totally dismantled its media relations department. coming up on kron, 4 news at 6. the suspect in the killings of 4 university of idaho students has been charged. >> we'll have the latest on the case. plus, the oakland zoo announces it's going to be closed for at least 2 weeks as crews work to repair a big sinkhole and other damage was caused by the new year's eve rain storm. and when we return, we're going to live to lake tahoe for an update on the conditions there. as that area gets ready for a lot more snow in the days ahead. 4, news at 6 returns in a moment.

4 zone forecast as we get be a rainy shot to golden gate bridge somewhere back behind all those water droplets on the camera. looks like a mess out there. lawrence is here to talk about the forecast for also. >> today we also the sierra as all this rain. that's coming our way today and also wednesday, going to turn into snow. yes, some of it is but

different elevations. and that's going to cause some problems. right? last time we had a lot rain, even a 9,000 feet. this next storm. the stat next atmospheric river event. looks like it's going to be a colder of that. still, that snow level probably rise up to about 6,000, maybe 7,000 feet as we head into wednesday evening out there. right now, though, we've got a colder storm coming through and that's bringing the snow level much lower. you can see a live look at donner summit right now and they are chaining up both 80 50. if you plan to head up there, it's going to be slow going up there for tonight. now by the day tomorrow, i not bad, but that snow coming through right now around the high country than you can see that turning into rain below a grass valley in plash ville. you see the rain moving in there. but all this going to be moving up in the sierra nevada for tonight to make for an active night up there. so kind of a tough night to travel there and then we get ready for a major weather event. we've storm watches that going up as the right to wednesday and thursday. i think some of the higher peaks, again, we could
