>> i'm elizabeth cook. in a jailhouse interview, 66-year-old chunli zhao told a reporter he was not in his right mind when he walked into the half moon bay mushroom farm where he worked and shot five people, killing four of them. prosecutors say he drove to another farm where he worked previously, and killed three more. zhao told the tv station he had been bullied, worked long hours at the forms, and his complaints were ignored. a spokesperson for california terra garden confirms zhao with on the property with his life wife and the property had no knowledge of bullying complaints. here is how investigators described his demeanor when interrogating him. >> i would phrase it this way. he was cooperative with the sheriff's detectives who did the interview. it was done through mandarin interpreter. my office was watching it from outside. >> meanwhile, a huge memorial of flowers, candles, and

stuffed animals for the seven victims is growing at a site across from city hall. today, several people including a local choir, gathered to remember and pray for those who died. one young woman got extremely emotional and hugged her mother after she realized she knew one of the victims. 50-year-old marciano martinez jimenez. >> just like remembering his face in the back of my head. and how -- sorry -- he would walk his dog past my house. every time i would see him, it was like oh, he's right there, you know. knowing that that's not going to happen anymore just made me realize how we take people for granted. >> since the two half moon bay farms are still crime scenes, several families who lived at the sites have been forced to temporarily move off those properties. a group called the

farmworker caravan has been collecting supplies and are putting out an urgent call for more donations and drivers to help deliver them. >> we are looking for nonperishable goods right now. bottled water. spam. two. breakfast and protein bars. we need diapers and baby formula. we need disinfectants, as well. lysol, clorox for them to clean up. >> stay with cbs news bay area for continuing coverage of the shooting investigation on-air and online. >> body cam footage of the hammer attack on paul pelosi in his san francisco home will be made public nursing tomorrow. in a rare show of unity, prosecutors joined the defense in opposing the release. wilson walker explains why. >> not just the body camera video. we expect to hear the 911 call and to surveillance video, as well as a portion of an interview conducted with the attack suspect, david ai xiang zhang for , shortly after the

attack. a coalition of news agencies argued it is like record it against the wishes of both sides in this case. deputy adam lipson, representing him, said, quote, i oppose the release of the requested evidence because it could inhibit his ability to get a fair trial and fuel conspiracy theories about the case. >> i think what is clear is that this case is vulnerable to misinformation. >> that was district attorney brooke jenkins back in november arguing against that release of the material on the grounds that it contained investigation. the investigation evidence was presented by prosecutors at a court hearing in december. >> the footage was part of a preliminary hearing, which is in a public setting. once that

body camera footage entered the public sphere, there is no legitimate privacy privilege or law enforcement privilege. >> he has pleaded not guilty to a list of state and local crimes. the court says this material will be made available at 9:00 friday morning. >> we should know that cbs news was part of a media coalition that fought for the release of the evidence. >> police in san francisco looking for suspects in a double shooting in hill. this happened just after 7:30 last night in hoke, california. the gunmen got into an argument with two men and then shot them. they're expected to survive. the shooter is still on the loose. five oakland men were arrested in an armed robbery and shooting that wounded a camera store employee in campbell. they stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment from san jose hammer and video yesterday morning and then shot the employee who tried to follow them out and the worker is expected to be okay.

a resident of a walnut creek senior care facility who died under strange circumstances last summer accidentally ingested acrostic cleaning solution according to the corner. the autopsy report found that 94-year-old constantine suffered severe burns to his throat and stomach. they are now suing claiming that they told him he got sick after eating spicy chips. this comes after other residents at a san mateo county facility died under similar circumstances. their families are also suing, claiming that they were served cleaning fluid instead of juice. we reached out regarding the report. they said they are working on a response. today, the department of water resources has announced it will boost deliveries to 29 public suppliers. they will get

30% of the water the requested, up from the 5% allotment earlier this year. those agencies include valley water in santa clara county and napa county at the tri-valley. >> let's check in with chief meteorologist paul heggen. this is great news. finally seeing what we worked so hard for. >> it's nice to be the bearer of good news. eight straight dry days. we will start with last week's update which, itself, was a vast improvement. a moderate drought across the bay area. a couple of patches of severe drought in the central valley. this week's update erases one of those patches of severe drought and moderate drought for most of the bay area. it's the first category of actual drought conditions. in santa cruz county, the patch of yellow indicates non-drought conditions. still categorized as being abnormally dry compared to what is supposed to be normal. just nice to see part of the bay area that has

broken out of those drought conditions. still the patch of severe drought from sacramento to the north. good news on the statewide level, as well. last week was the first time in a while we had 0% of the worst two categories. exceptional and extreme drought. 33% of the state. a full third of the state is in severe drought. the orange shading on the map. a 10% drop from last week. things were heading in the right direction. we need additional rain to continue to chip away at the drought conditions. we will see if any of that is in the seven-day forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks. getting ready for sunday in just three days. the 49ers can punch their ticket to the super bowl. >> you know where you will be watching the game? >> oh, yeah. my couch. >> the bay area, meanwhile, buzzing with excitement. we are live with coverage. let's start with vern glenn for more on the team's final preparations. >> they fly out from santa clara tomorrow. the 49ers, they've enjoyed the comforts of home during their 12 game win

five former memphis police officers are facing murder charges for the violent arrest of tyree nichols, who died in the hospital earlier this month. three days after the disturbing incident. cbs

reporter elise preston is in memphis with the latest. >> reporter: criminal charges including second-degree murder announced against five former memphis police officers involved in a traffic stop that led to the death of tyree nichols. >> the actions of all of them resulted in the death of tyre nichols. >> officers were fired last week after an internal police department probe and surrendered to authorities thursday. >> let me be clear, what happened here does not at all reflect proper policing. this was wrong. this was criminal. >> reporter: authorities plan to make public body camera video of the encounter with the 29-year-old on january 7th. his family saw the video earlier this week and >> all i heard my son say was, "what did i do?" where is the humanity in all of this. >> reporter: the issued a

again. the storms are gone but prompting a new evacuation morning. the solano county sheriff issued a warning for gates canyon and vacaville. all due to hazardous road conditions brought on by the storms. both roads have been closed since the 13th. repair work begins on saturday. in the meantime, traffic is moving more quickly again on the peninsula. caltrans reinstated to a traffic near this massive pothole that formed less than two weeks ago on highway 92. this after a storm related slip out washed away part of the highway. >> we are used to seeing potholes, but those were sinkholes. my goodness. >> add that to the 700 landslides in mudslides across the state over the past several weeks. it's been nice to have this stretch of dry weather for the last week. plus today's the eighth street dry day. we

would eventually like some additional rain. we got a couple of chances in the forecast. let's look at what you need to know, beginning with this beautiful sunset as we look to the west from salesforce tower. will bring you what you need to know through the next couple of days. patchy fog through the rest of tonight. redeveloping tonight because the wind is sh temperatures. pivoting on shore tomorrow. we will return closer to average temperature tomorrow. the cooling trend continues through the weekend. a mix of clouds and sunshine on saturday for the first half of the weekend. a chance of showers comes into the forecast for the second half on sunday. if you have outdoor plans, i would not bother adjusting those. be flexible, just in case, but we are not looking that much of a rain chance. still a few days out. let's look at the futurecast for what we expect over the next several days. fog out there to begin the day tomorrow. even some spelling inside the bay. not going to last too long. clouds

and sunshine mixed throughout the day. similar conditions on saturday. probably not as much fog to begin on saturday but a mix of clouds and sun throughout the first half of the weekend. moisture diving down from the north. that's a path that does not allow the storm system to tap into a significant amount of water in the atmosphere. we are looking at a few spotty showers moving in on sunday. the forecast model runs out of data at 10:00 a.m. you can see the pattern at that point. not going to be widespread to the bay area. a few hundred seven inch of rain there. he might be able to dodge the spots. don't cancel the plans, but be flexible in case. somebody's going to be inside at noon watching football, anyway. dry tuesday into wednesday, but there is a better chance of scattered showers heading our way by thursday of next week. something to keep our eyes on over the next several days. another look at the sunset from a different camera and this one from the mark hopkins hotel. it's nice that the sun is up at this point in the day. it goes down just before 5:30 this

evening. 60s right now. we drop into a mix of upper 30s and low to mid 40s by tomorrow morning. chilly in some in land spots, but normally chilly this time of year. the highs in land are going to be a few degrees above average. three or four instead of 5 to 10 mac above normal. onshore breeze pushing temperatures back to the 50s along the coast. upper 50s to around 60 degrees in the bay. the cooling trend continues saturday. the coolest settles and sunday, monday, tuesday. we are going to stay on the cool side through the rest of next week readjust that chance of a couple of passing showers on sunday . not going to ruin your weekend plans. dry weather monday, tuesday, wednesday, before the better chance of scattered showers heads our way on thursday. by that point, it will been almost 2 weeks since any decent amount of rain fell in the bay area. we could use that chance of showers by groundhog day. how about that?
