in this weather wherever you are in this storm system. please consider staying at home. >> you can see the audio, taking some hits from our reporter. that might be weather-related. she is in the thick of things in south san francisco, with the wind, as she said, and the rain at the station, where the canopy collapsed. >> i think it's safe to say, the damages everywhere tonight. we will take a look here, fallen trees, between san miguel and not broadway. you can see the workers cleaning up this debris there, and all three trees fell, blocking traffic for quite some time. it appears the road is going to be open again soon. >> we're going to be seeing dozens, if not hundreds of downed trees. this is an as written, a tree that came down onto a home. you can see some damage here. thankfully, no one was hurt,

north bay is being hit hard from the river to marin county. >> nbc bay area terry mcsweeney joins us live there. terry, you know so well that santos hello is a trouble spot with weather like this. >> reporter: yes. certainly. years ago, the entire downtown was inundated with floodwater. to this day, with a flood, checking out the creeks right through town. you can see, it is swirling, but it is nowhere near floor level. different story north of here, when we talk about what the family wants to know, if it's going to flood again at their house. they check out their community screens. the smith family keeps their eyes on computer screens to see how the creature doing and how much rain is falling while, at the same time, checking nbc bay area's website to see where the storm is right now. they caught a break in the storm tonight for about an hour,
11:09 pm
with the storm potentially bringing mud to their street and into the garage. that has happened many times before. >> the street you drive in on will be a river. i'll have a garage full of water, flooding to cleanup, which is not terrible, but the mud that remains after the water subsides, it's not only dirty, but who knows what's in that mud. >> in sonoma county tonight, the russian river is rising. expected to crest over a flood stage tomorrow night and again, sunday. an evacuation warning has been issued, and some say, they have been through this before and they're ready for it. it was also a power outage in town tonight with people in the gas stations, filling their containers, keeping generators going. here, we got a downpour going on right now.
11:10 pm
a few moments ago, we had a couple of huge gusts of wind. the storm is far from over. people, still keeping their eye on the creek that goes right through town. terry mcsweeney, nbc bay area news. >> an issue with an evacuation needed. >> also evacuation warnings tonight. you heard san jose police driving by creeks, telling people to move to higher ground. areas around the russian river are also being asked to leave, as well as a few community's nearside in danger of sliding down the hill. >> it's alarming to see the evacuation warnings, especially with police officers rolling through your neighborhood. late tonight, another warning in south san jose. ross creek may be overflowing. there are a lot of homes there in the dense area. >> alyssa gord is out there, lived for us this evening. ross creek, near cabernet and part alyssa, what are you seeing out there? >> reporter: well, audrey and raj, good news tonight is that,
11:11 pm
so far, on cherry avenue, we have not seen flooding in the roadway here. we've been here for a couple of hours now. but what we have heard in the past hour is the winds pick up, and they've been howling over ross creek here. people who were in san jose got this alert on their phones, saying, overtopping was imminent and ross creek here, at cherry avenue. people were understandably shaken, given that alert the streets, though they're not flooded, the city crews are standing by with signs, seemingly ready to close the road if things get worse. we have seen a lot of neighbors around here. here's what a few of them said who pulled up to look at the creek. >> maybe another four or five hours it will start coming up. i'm sure these guys wouldn't be here, closing off the road, if they didn't think that was going well. >> i saw the water coming up.
11:12 pm
>> reporter: and the city is asking residents to avoid the area of cherry avenue and jarvis avenue near ross creek, and not to drive into flooded roads. if they see them, the city has an emergency iq for the evacuation with the red cross. it's open 24 hours and located at the seven trees community center. so far, all the only people who were there were folks who were unhoused in the community, it is really open to anyone with no reservation required. this creek, here, back out at ross creek, it's continuing to move really quickly. you can see, based on the numbers, the marks on the side of the creek, it's actually moved down a couple notches. so, that's a good sign. the residents say, it's a welcome sight to see a little bit less water in this creek the last couple of hours. they hope that will continue overnight, but they plan to keep coming out here. some of them, even just to check and see how the water is looking at the storm front.
11:13 pm
alyssa gord, nbc bay area news. >> alyssa, thank you. it's a fine line between what is coming up near the road and then when he goes over the road, which we saw it last weekend, east palo alto, very spots in the east bay in northbay. now, we're on the verge of it. so far, okay in south san jose. >> there is good doing okay so far. let's look at flights being impacted by the storm. as you can imagine, according to flight aware, san francisco had 349 delays today. 92 cancellations. san jose international had 90 delays and 14 cancellations oakland had 95 delays and 8 cancellations. thousands of passengers were either coming into the bay area or headed out. listen to the intensity of that rain. this is on mud pies with winds there, up to 65 miles an hour. we can't stress this enough. our nbc bay area app is a very
