>> now from abc 7, live breaking news. ama: a winter bomb cyclone. we are assessing the damage. the level five isn't done yet. already it's hitting with full force. good evening. dan: thanks for joining us. we are seeing heavy activity moving across the region tonight. ama: you'll see that large band of rain and wind closing in. dan: our entire team of reporters have been scattered across the bay area all day for this very busy day of weather. ama: let's get to spencer christian with the latest on the track of the storm. spencer: let's take a look at live doppler 7 hd. look at all the areas of heavyys

and oranges. let's take a visit down from san francisco to san bruno, san mateo, redwood city. heavy downpours in the east bay from berkeley and oakland over to orinda and walnut creek. heavy downpours as well, moving from west to east. this is still a level five storm on the exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale. the first level five we've had. we expect more heavy rain, damaging wind. worst impact in the next couple of hours. flooding is an issue. flood warning in effect for the entire bay area. the flood warning remains in effect. we have a high wind warning in effect through the night into the early morning hours. gusts ranging from 50 to 60 miles per hour. at the surface, 53 mile per hour gusts at sfo. at the golden gate, wet. not much traffic which is a good thing under these conditions.

heavy rain al willovght with widespread flooding and wind damage likely. the storm eases tomorrow but that will be followed by several consecutive days of more rain. here's our forecast animation. early morning. it's gone now. during the overnight, the bands of rain may widen and have more spacing between them. they will continue to hit the bay area. rainfall totals by 11:00 tomorrow night will be one inch to two inches away for much of the bay area. winter storm warning in effect for the sierra until 4:00 friday. we expect four feet of snow. at lake level, eight to 14 inches of snow accompanied by gusty wind. overnight lows mainly in the low 50's. high temperatures tomorrow mainly in the mid 50's. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. tomorrow's storm will be down to a level three. that is still a strong and

significant storm. light rain on friday. level two storms will follow that for the next few days. dan: remarkable pattern. thank you. scattered power outages across the bay area tonight. this map shows the locations with red areas indicating the largest impact. one trouble spot is in the area of daly city. the peninsula has the most customers without power with more than 41,000 affected. another big outage in berkeley including cal's campus. pg&e says 95,000 customers in the bay area are without power because of the storm. ama: heavy wayne can bring problems to your home or business including power outages. michael finney has advice on what to do to resolve the issue at a quicker pace. reporter: why do you do if your power goes out? pg&e says you should call to report the outage because that can help them locate the problem and get it resolved. the number to call is one 800

the storm. up until a minute ago, there were crews working on some of those downed power lines that you mentioned. that's the scene we've seen up and down the coast line here. as for rain, serious damage. heavy rain and wind coastal communities along the peninsula wednesday as the atmospheric river made its way across the bay area. in san francisco, crews spent the afternoon cleaning up a mudslide near the old cliff house. further south, we saw everything from a downed lamp post to several toppled trees along 280 and highway one. along the p or, raves -- waves crashed along the shore with gale force winds. we even caught a crew attempting to prevent a trampoline from flying out of someone's backyard and onto a busy road. another thing we did notice in town was that a lot of businesses closed up shop early

tonight. that's because they want to keep their customers and their employees safe. abc7news. ama: thank you. late-night problem spots in san francisco due to extreme rain and high wind. scaffolding took a tumble on 21st street. pg&e crews are on the scene as it looks to be leaning on power lines. in the mission district, a tree fell on top of a single vehicle. crews cleared mission and 19th street as they remove the tree. dan: parts of the north bay, one of the few places that are still facing some of at qa warnings because of flood danger. in san rafael, a shelter-in-place is lifted after this. take a look. multiple transformers and live voltage wires in the area of canal and novato streets. here's another helpful tool to show evacuation orders and closures for your neighborhood. you can go to aware. zone haven.com for this.

evacuation orders and effective parts of santa cruz county. there are many warnings in the russian river area in santa clara county as well. our full list of all of these trouble spots is on our website, abc7news.com. dan: let's get to j.r. stone who is in live -- who is live in richmond with an impact of fallen trees there. reporter: rain has been on a off all evening long. it has slowed for the time being but we are still feeling those strong wind gusts. i'm standing in a neighborhood where at least 15 homes evacuated, all because of this hill directly behind me. this evening, all eyes are on those stairs directly behind me. experts tell police, if there's a strong flow of water down those stairs, that would be bad. there are fears of a mudslide out here. we haven't seen a flow of water down those stairs. certainly good news in that

sense. when it comes to downed trees across the area, bad news in that department. dozens if not hundreds of them across the east bay. this was in el cerrito. there was a woman inside and she's ok. her house had some minor damage. her car had some minor damage. we spoke with her about what happen. this is what she had to say. >> i heard this crack, this loud crack. i thought it was an earthquake. i looked out and my tree was totally down. yeah. scared me. reporter: you are ok. >> i'm grateful it's not so cold. >> i have a wood-burning fireplace so i'm going to do that. my neighbors brought over a stove, heater for me from their house. so people have been great. reporter: it has since that interview early this evening. another downed tree here in richmond. this tree didn't just brush

against the house, it fell on top of the house that you are looking at right here. not only that. it went inside the house. one of the branches punctured through the roof. there was a woman inside. she's ok. her son lives with her. he wasn't there. however, the branch came very close to a lot of his toys. in particular, of -- a frankenstein toy. this is what he had to say. >> i was down at work. mom called and said, you better get here. get to the house. i go, did the power go out? she goes, you have a hole in your roof. right above your bed. right where my head was. my baby yoda bedsheets are ruined. you don't notice it until it's down on your house. reporter: this is what the tree cleanup looked like along the richmond parkway earlier this evening. a large tree fell down, blocking the lanes, blocking traffic for

a good portion. no injuries but tree crews were out there, able to get this under control and open up those lanes and a couple of hours. you can see there's a heavy police presence in this area. they are closely monitoring this hillside here and they are keeping a close eye on the homes. homes where many people who evacuated have left from. they are closely watching those homes tonight. j.r. stone, abc7news. dan: schools will be closed in several bay area communities. san francisco and oakland unified will have class in session tomorrow. here's a look at a few other districts that have canceled school tomorrow. south san francisco, san mateo, pacifica, portola valley, redwood city. we've been continuously updating these through the evening. you can find the full list posted online on our website. ama: we will take a quick break.

everyone is making room hm. *coughs* seriously? for the medicine cabinet's new essential. binaxnow -- with reliable covid-19 results in just 15 minutes. dan: a child was killed by a falling tree. it happened on joy road in occidental this evening. a redwood tree fell on the house, killing a child who was only two years old. the toddler was home with their mother and father when this happened.

and the child to the main road to meet the rescue squad. they started cpr but tragically the child didn't make it. the chief says a lot of members of the department have children the same age as the victim so it's hitting them hard. he's planning to hold the stress debriefing for members of the department tomorrow. ama: in the east bay, we saw a car floating in a flooded underpass at 34th and webster. this was under 580 near alta bates summit medical center. no one was in the car. dan: let's go back and talk with spencer about the weather forecast. we are getting repeated bands of intense weather overnight. ama: what's the latest? spencer: the bands keep piling on us from the storm that's out at sea right now. this is a powerful low-pressure system bringing bands of heavy rain and strong winds on shore.

it's not relenting right now. let's take a look at what's going on with live doppler 7. we have areas of heavy downpour through the central part of the bay area, from san francisco down into the peninsula. over in the east bay, heavy downpours as well. moving along, take a look at the exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale. this is our first level five, severe storm. for the remainder of tonight, look for heavy rain, damaging wind. the worst impacts will be in the next two to three hours before the storm starts to break up a little bit. flooding and downed trees are with us already. flood warning in effect for the entire bay area tonight. high wind warning in effect as well with gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour. we've got gusts over 50 miles per hour in sfo and 40 in many other locations. here are the forecast headlines. downpours and powerful gust overnight.

widespread flooding. the storm eases a bit tomorrow but days consecutively of rain will follow. here's an animation. after 2:30 am, a break between the waves. 5:00 in the morning, an hour put -- another powerful wave will swing through and that's the pattern we will see all the way through the day tomorrow until it starts to wind down. by 11:00 tomorrow night, one to two inches. in the sierra, winter storm warning in effect until 4:00 a.m. powerful wind gusts. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. light storm on friday and then a series of four consecutive days of level two storms saturday through tuesday. only adding to our concerns about flooding. ama: thank you. when the storm was first hitting, we saw a surge of downed power lines and outages in the south bay. abc7news reporter is live in

south bay tonight. reporter: the rain picking up in the last minute or so. certainly it's wet and windy. it isn't stopping city crews from getting to work. i will step out of the way so you can see what's going on. crews have been at it working quickly to remove what's left of a massive tree that went down about three hours ago along the alameda in san jose. we were warned the storm would happen on saturday plus today's downpour meant heavily saturated soil. across san jose, early rain brought down plenty of trees and wires. power outages across parts of the city. just before 8:00 tonight, this large tree came down across two lanes of traffic. we spoke with a man who was on the road at the time. he describes hearing the crack of the tree before watching it come down while his truck was dented by the tree. he says it could have been a

much different story, especially if it happened a moment earlier. >> five second sooner, i would have been crushed by the tree. if the timing was off just a littlebeen on the top of the hood of my truck. cars aren't made for that kind of impact. i would've been splashed flattened. reporter: shocking no doubt. san jose city officials declared a state of emergency, providing the city with powers it needs to respond to the storm and allows officials to orders. santa clara county shut down a long list of roads as crews were responding to flooding and other issues. valley water declared a countywide flood emergency, giving them the authority to take quick emergency action necessary to save lives and property across the county. these are all measures that are top of mind for officials across the south bay. the rain has really picked up.

the cruise still at it three hours after the tree went down into the roadway here. that man says it's a reminder to take it slow on our roads. that is something we should keep with us as the rain continues into the next few days. abc7news. dan: thank you. ama: this is a live check from our emeryville camera. you can see there are still cars on the road. not too bad. everyone is going at a crawl which is good. we will have more weather coverage which will continue right after this.

hours. a little bit of a break between those waves of storminess between 2:00 and 5:00. more of that tomorrow. the storm isn't done with us yet so be prepared for more heavy downpours and gusty wind tomorrow. rainfall totals for the two daytime, anywhere from one to two inches. as we look at the forecast, you can see that we have a stormy time ahead. tomorrow, the storm will rank level 3 on the storm impact scale but it is still a storm of strong intensity. we may even have some thunderstorms tomorrow. there's a lot of instability in the atmosphere. friday will be the latest weather impact. level one, showers and light rain. saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, four consecutive days of level two storms. those are moderate storms. the rain that comes is falling on top of saturated ground. can produce some serious problems. we will keep monitoring conditions for you. dan: thanks.
