the united states naval academy was established originally in maryland, annapolis. of course, maryland was not quite loyal to the union and not quite disloyal to the confederacy. the decision was made to move the naval academy from its location at annapolis, maryland, and break it up to newport, rhode island. they installed the midshipmen at the naval academy at the atlantic house hotel, which was located in central newport. the building is no longer there, but the legacy of the naval academy in newport during the civil war looms very large and understanding how the united states navy evolved. later on in the 1880's and 1890's, the mids at the academy during the civil war studied under instructors like stephen b loose, and alfred thayer mahan the word training midshipman at the academy. among the other protÉges, alfred thayer mahan is probably the most known. here we have a signed photograph of him, who unfortunately died in 1914 just as the first world war was developing. mahan is best-known for his works on seapower. we have the exact copy of "influence of seapow

currently 23 leesburg, 23 belvoir, 23 in annapolis. the cold spot right now is warrenton down to 17 degrees. as we look at the radar nothing to show you. we're not seeing any snow wednesday night into thursday. tomorrow at 4:00, notice where the snow is. just north and west of jacksonville, florida. i mean, places under winter storm warning include tallahassee, savannah, charleston. they could all see a couple of inches of snow. as this moves up, the storm, however, moves far enough off the coast. then itys now, notice the snow tried to get into the d.c. metro area. if you live in southern maryland you have a much better chance of seeing flakes here. not expecting much accumulation. where we are going to see accumulation is out there towards the ocean city area towards rohoboth towards our beeches. you might not see a flake on thursday. it gets sunny during the day. this storm system is one to watch, however. we are going to be seeing some changes in this. the storm track for snow chances, if it shifrts to the east they get much lower.
