i'm kerry young from san francisco heritage. i really wanted to thank supervisor mar for spearheading this designation and i want to say that the p side library is a commune gem this has served the neighborhood for over 70 years. it is provides great illustration of postwar architecture and the first of the libraries designed by woolford and set the pattern for the other branch library this is came after it. it is modern design is similar to a cozy style home and it fit this is welcoming commune space in the park side. and we are really thrilled this designation will build upon the w with the community group park side heritage and with supervisor mar to preserve historic resources in the park side neighborhood but on the west side of the city. and we also.ed take this opportunity to thank supervisor mar for all of his support of historic preservation in district 4 during his time as supervisor and thank park side heritage for championing preservation work in the park side and san francisco heritage have been very happy to suppor

with sand the way that san francisco was and when you look at a map of san francisco have a unique street grid and one of the thing is those streets started off in extremely long piers. but by 1875 they know they needed more so the ferry building was built and it was a long affair and the first cars turned around at the ferry building and picking up people and goods and then last night the street light cars the trams came to that area also. but by the late 1880s we needed something better than the ferry building. a bond issue was passed for $600,000. to build a new ferry building i would say 800 thousand for a studio apartment in san francisco they thought that was a grand ferry building had a competition to hire an architecture and choose a young aspiring architect and in the long paris and san francisco had grand plans for this transit station. so he proposed the beautiful new building i wanted it wider, there is none tonight. than that actually is but the price of concrete quitclaim two how and was not completed and killed. but it opened a greater claim and became fully operational bef

the san francisco bay area ferry has suspended harbor bay and south san francisco route. we are live . heavy downpour, gusty winds. a lot of damage like this. downed trees and power lines all over here. coming up >>> we want to take you to the san mateo county coast where the touring terrain is not the only problem tonight. >> we are joined live from half moon bay to see what the wind has done. you are in the thick of it right now. >> reporter: the rent has been touring nonstop since 4:00 here in half moon bay. as you mentioned, it's not just the rain but the gusty wind causing raindrops to go sideways. as a result, we are seeing a lot of downed trees and power lines in the area. i want to show you some video, as well of this cypress tree that toppled over a few hours ago. the base of this tree is about 12 feet in diameter. it's about 50 to 60 feet tall. this tree is surrounded by apartments and townhomes. luckily, it landed in the courtyard. nobody was hurt. at the nearby town of moss beach, a tree limb snapped and landed on a power line. this happened around 3:00 on cal

i'm san francisco mayor london breed and thank you all for being here today with a number of our city department heads who are responsible for responding to emergencies specifically as it relates to the severe weather we just experienced over the holiday weekday. i want to start by really thanking our first responders. in fact, we were under the impression and notified by our national weather service that we could anticipate not even a inch of rain and in fact what we saw was within 24 hour period was a 5.5 inches of rain, which is the second largest amount of rain we have seen in a 24 hour period. it had not happen in san francisco in this capacity since 1849 so it ipacted our city in such a significant way and including businesses, homes, our streets and number other things and the information we had was not sufficient to help us prepare in the capacity that we needed to address the issue, our first responders many from the public utilities commission who cleared out storm drains along with department of public works, our fire department, our police department, so many of the folks
