across the bay area. so this is not only affecting the morning commute, but will also have impacts through the afternoon to evening hours. but it's mainly early. i think around sunset it's starting to clear out. we are also going to see the overnight rainfall continue in some areas, not everyone will see that. it's going to be very hit or miss. overall activity is tapering off. we could see another half to three-quarters of an inch of rain. some of the highest totals will be over the santa cruz mountains, as well as los gatos. into the weekend, more rain coming in and that continues into at least next monday and tuesday. in total, we could see another inch and a half to over two inches of rainfall. so that's when we're going to continue to see those issues with more mudslides in the hills, and those additional impacts from all of this rain. and there's a blizzard warning in effect that continues for the sierra, all of these areas highlighted in red. that's through tomorrow as we are looking at another 21

another area that we've been monitoring is through the north bay. this one is further up north near calistoga, 29 in both directions, also closed right now. no estimated time of reopening, because concerns continue throughout the day. they're going to work to clear it out but it's hard to get up here. there's a lot of snow, the conditions are not permitting for crews to get up there. so no estimated time on reopening. another area showing some slowing is 580. chp is warning as well of difficult driving conditions right through the westbound lanes, through the altamont pass in both directions. there was an earlier crash. that has since cleared but we're seeing residual delays. speeds at about 63 miles per hour. i did take a look at some of the drive times to see if there were big impacts through the tri-valley. westbound 580 from grant line, 28 minutes. people are slowing down and that's going to cause a backup through 680 as well, 580 to vargas road, that is moving alone. no issues from 84 to 680, nine minutes. no estimated time on reopening, back t

yes, snow, even in the bay area. let's get into the details on what is causing this, a storm system will be camping out for the next several days, and different little aspects of the storm system, if it ripples of energy rotating around the heart of it. think of it as a spokes on a wheel. one of them will move out, squeeze the atmosphere a bit more and give us a better chance more widespread rain and some snow in the higher elevations. dropping down to 1500 feet or less by the time we get into friday. the wind is the problem in the short term. gusty wind right now, the strongest gusts as of the top of the hour at 7:00, we are just over 50 miles per hour. these are likely the strongest wind we will experience the rest of the night. but, the wind will still be blustery out, especially along the coast, early tomorrow morning, and noticeable further inland. 25 to 35 mile per hour gusts through early afternoon. the wind advisory through 1:00 p.m. at that point the wind will backdown slightly but we are still talking about
