right now at 11:00 we have learned that a woman pregnant with twins who was shot in northeast d.c. last week has lost both babies. the shooter is still on the loose. glad you are with us at 11:00 on wusa9. johnson was recovering at medstar washington hospital center when she went into labor unexpectedly over the weekend. wusa9's garrett haake joins us live from outside the hospital where he spoke to the mother still recovering tonight. garrett, what

>> reporter: johnson and i exchanged messages tonight. she is still recovering tonight. she says she has so much on her mind. last tuesday she was shot in the belly in northeast d.c. on saturday her twin daughters were born nearly four months pre mature. they died the same day. d.c. police discovered 21-year- old johnson inside this take- out restaurant last tuesday night awake and breathing but bleeding from a gunshot wound. another man lay critically injured on the sidewalk. johnson had stopped for a sandwich around 10:00 p.m. when the shooting started. the pregnant mother of two was not the shooter's target, police told the washington post. surveillance video captured two men police called persons of interest approaching the scene, then appearing to shoot and run. a regular at the take-out spot on brentwood road northeast asked us about the wounded

the victim is 35-year-old joe cook. there is adds 25,000 reward for anyone who has information that leads to an arrest. maryland police continue to search for an armed robbery suspect that left an unarmed security guard in critical condition after being shot. >> the incident happened overnight on the campus of the university of maryland. wusa9's mola lenghi live in the newsroom. >> reporter: debora, i'm told the security guard had surgery this afternoon. he is still in the hospital and is still in critical condition. meanwhile one suspect from the robbery remains on the loose, and police consider him armed and dangerous. >> the fact that it actually happened here is really scary. >> reporter: students were understandably a little railingsed on the campus of the university of maryland today after an unarmed security guard was shot during an overnight robbery attempt that happened at the college park marriott hotel on university boulevard. the security guard who remains in critical condition was employed by the hotel but university of maryland police chief david mi

guards work closely with his officers. >> this security officer is just a tremendous fellow. tragically, he was shot in the arm, and the projectile penetrated, and he is now in critical condition. >> reporter: police now have one suspect in custody and are searching for at suspect, the person seen in this surveillance image. the chief says the suspect broke into in after midnight and stole three saves inside but dropped them outside as they tried to flee the scene. one safe and a handgun were found near the loading dock. two other saves and a loaded magazine were found in some nearby woods. none of the saves had been cracked. >> i was a little shocked. again, you've just got to get up and do what you have to do every day. you can't let that kind of stuff stop you. senate's like, it's a little scary. i'm walking to close right by where tint happened. >> reporter: police searched the woods for the suspect but

last seen with yellow gloves, brown hiking boots, and dark pants. >> we consider this man to be armed and dangerous. >> reporter: now, police are hoping the suspect that they have in custody helps lead them to the suspect what remains on the loose. if you have any information you are asked to contact authorities. deborah. >> thank you, mola. we have new information on a pedestrian accident that killed a five-month-old baby in a stroller and injured his mother. this happened last month in loudoun county. a witness reported seeing the driver speed up just before hitting mother and child. the witness also says that the driver might have been looking at his phone. the loudoun county sheriff's office says the case remains under investigation. out of our prince george's county bureau tonight investigators are trying to nail down the cause of a big fire that happened at the usda research center in beltsville. flames gutted an old workshop and storage facility. now, was it an accident or was it arson? just last week someone made

drive in silver spring. he implied that he had a gun but the clerks didn't actually see one. out of abundance of caution four neighborhood schools had students and staff shelter in place while police investigated. no one was hurt. 35,000 students just had their college plans turned up side down. one of the biggest for-profit colleges just went out of business. itt tech. the new school year was set to start next monday. instead, itt tech has closed all 137 locations nationwide including the campus in chantilly. the school was the subject of several state and federal investigations and lawsuits that alleged fraud and predatory lending. the department of education recently blocked the school from enrolling new students who rely on federal loans and grants. well, tonight nine weeks out from election day. and donald trump and hillary clinton are essentially in a dead heat. that's according to this new cnn orc
