8:06 am
f lou the at the web site the school superintendent makes it sound like the parents chose to keep their kids home today. but, no comment. she said all of the information we will release is on our web site. through see a plus on the school sign here at howard y yocu m that is far from the failing grade school leaders get for subject of communication. parents were very unhappy to learn about this letter sent only to teachers and staff here last week saying that the two kids from africa were going to start school here today. even though they are not the sick, show no symptoms of any illness, and, are from rwanda, 3,000 miles away from the closest country with cases on have this virus, will school in must anyhow is taking their temperatures three times a day for 21 days. parents felt that information was being hid friend them. the custodian here told reporters that it was going to stay home today out of fear and parents were going to keep their kids off from school today too.

>> so, we say don't smile to my face and have a a secret like that. >> you didn't get a phone call. >> no. >> no e-mail. >> no i had my mom, also a contact at that school as well. she's a secondary contact as well as my brother. so we had three eyes on one child n1 got anything a lot of disbelief that they would even jeopardize the the safety of the children, regardless of their not contaminated or whatever, it is still a little bit of disbelief. i don't like it at all. i feel like, anybody from that area should just stay there until this stuff is resolved. there is nobody infected here. let's keep that it way. >> well hearing all that criticism and concern from parents school district after talking to those parents, suddenly announced on saturday at web site that the new kids would not start school here today after all their parents, and chose to keep them home for today. the entire 21 day quarantine team plus an extra week on top of. that between now and then,
8:08 am
alex and mike we hope communication gets better between the school and everybody satisfied here that the about a month from now even though kids won't be here making halloween decoration was their new friends hopefully they will make those paper call for turkies and everybody will be happy, by then. >> i hope so. >> a lot of people on twitter it wasn't so much they didn't want kids from school is that they weren't told, parents weren't told. i wonder where the nurse got idea that she needed to do this. >> reporter: mike, the nurse doesn't know everything about ebola anyway because 13 percent of people with ebola show no temperatures. that doesn't prove anything. so parents that saw that on the news watching all this blanket wall to wall coverage say taking the temperatures doesn't mean these kids don't have a sickness anyhow there was concern and everybody ride just don't not tell us well, certainly this is relating to this story.
8:09 am
>> ebola is having an affect on the travel industry. fears are growing after a nurse infect with the deadly virus flew on the plane a day before being diagnosed. few airlines have stopped flying as a result. >> a lot of people here didn't want to sees them flights stopped and president obama is calling for american to use caution, he is than the in favor of banning travel to west africa a region being torn apart by this deadly virus but some lawmakers aren't sure about his decision. >> actually the president has to very seriously consider the fact that if we don't want people from infect area to be flying in the country, but at the end of the day, it is a decision for the president, if he called me and asked me would i say a ban at this point makes sense. >> so what does make sense here? i understand why people would want to put a ban in immediately. it seems like the thing to do but travel expert mike murphy we have on the show all the time. >> i think those three
8:10 am
countries and people getting diseases can come to the u.s. i say that with great reservation. in the beginning i said in travel ban but right now this is continuing to spread, heavily in those three countries. nigeria has it under control. they have snuffed it out in nigeria. but sierra a leon and liberia it is rampant. stop diseases. people can still get in there, health workers and other folks but that doesn't stop the big problem. >> go ahead. >> explain the president and the cdc people, they don't want a ban. i will try to explain it. the way i understand it. they are monitoring 150 people coming in from african countries every day in this country. if you ban it, they will start lying and sneaking it in. >> they are saying we have people that will look at you when you come in and we will go ahead and check things out and make sure you don't i have fever. it is 21 day incubation per. with you will not see anything until they are there.
8:11 am
so the traveling public, they shouldn't be concern, about ebola. here's the the reason why. thomas duncan, right. he comes in. he interact was a hundred family members while contagious. >> his fee an as who was hugging and kissing him while he was sweating. >> she didn't get it. >> we have all these people coming in contact, 22 days later, not one of them has tested positive. so, we think about africa. we can put anybody in this bucket. you can fit the united states, india, eastern europe and china into the land mass have of africa. you can really put in perspective. you being afraid of maple shade something is going on in l.a. really. it is not rational. >> too many miles in between. >> what about this in general. i went to dallas. >> yes. >> there are some people on the train who have masks, gloves, is that really necessary. >> no, if you listened to the cdc they have made some mistakes but fact is it is not airborne. the it is not like sars was.
8:12 am
it is not h1n1. very different. thomas duncan is a great example i have seen a couple people on flights with those masks. i think you can, have the flu, with a mask over your face. >> absolutely it is flu season. >> it will not help with you ebola. it comes in contact with bodily fluids that is how it spreads as of now. could things change. >> it could mutate into an airborne virus. >> exactly. >> here's another thing on travel to africa by putting a ban on those countries it tells the rest of the world that every other country in africa is fine to go to for the the most part. so these tourist, south africa, kenya, you name it, go ahead and travel there, enjoy it. you will get a great deal today anyway. >> well, it will hurt the the economy for those three countries. >> it is what it is. >> what can we do. >> mark, good job. >> 8:12. look who is here? here he is. hey connor is what up.
8:13 am
>> what is up. >> all right. we will talk to connor about the eagles. we have a big game sunday. >> come into the light. >> new studio. >> i don't know how this works now. >> yes. now. >> yes.

8:18 am
>> cardinals won too that is the next game. >> they are six and one. they are playing well. >> five and one. >> i think they are six and one. >> don't let him sack you, mike. >> you are probably right. >> of course, i'm right. get that on tape, i'm right. good luck next week. >> let's talk about what a nice guy you are. what were you doing in haiti in the off season. >> i partnered with hig for last couple years. >> what is nrg. >> they are the ones that dot stadium at the the link. they do five other stadium with the solar and wind. they do work in haiti every year for a while now. they invited me to go down there on a company trip where we put solar on an an orphanage and dry try to get the school off the grid that is unreal. the it really changes them for the organization and the school. >> how are things down there after the the earthquake. >> they are still pretty bad.
