septa bus and it happened right in front of her eight year old son. it was this evening at the the intersection of 15th street and washington avenue. good evening, i'm lucy noland. iain page is off tonight. >> we are learning heartbreaking details about this horrible accident. let's get right out to fox 29's jennifer joyce live at the scene. so jennifer, what happened there? >> reporter: lucy, we are standing at the intersection of 15th and washington. police told us tonight that this was an absolutely heart-breaking scene. when they arrived they saw an eight year old boy down on the ground trying to take care of his fine year old mother who was hit by the septa bus. she ultimately died on the scene. according to police, the mom was holding her son's hasn't as they were crossing the street. a 32 year old man with special needs was also with them. police tell us all three were quote trying to beat the bus and cross over washington they were unsuccessful. police say investigators tell us the woman was clipped and dragged under the bus.

the child was trance poured to chop with scrapes, bruises an possible concussion. the man was not injured. police say this is an event that will likely traumatize the child forever. a woman who walks by the crash seep filled up with tears as she heard the details of what happened. >> she was caught by the front of the bus, the fright front of the bus behind the right wheel. became entangled under the bus and the bus did run over her. she was pronounced deceased at the scene. >> it hurts. all i'm going to say i'm glad i wasn't at the scene. >> that is our jennifer joyce reporting there in south philadelphia. >> in hamilton township, a four year old boy has died from mysterious respiratory illness.

health officials are trying to figure out when and where he got sick. fox 29's dave kinchen joins us live from the mercer county medical examiner's office. dave, what do you know? >> reporter: lucy, it is terrifying because the investigators here tell us this boy did not show any signs of being sick. now, there are tests being done to see if this boy was sick with the virus infecting so many children around the country. >> i'm going to have to keep my daughter home until i figure out exactly what goes on. i would assume. >> reporter: that's the plan from jim moon a parent worried after a four year old pre-school boy at yardville elementary died at home from an unidentified respiratory illness. >> we got to take any practical measures on our side what we need to do to keep our children healthy. >> reporter: he got a letter from the township warning of an increased number of respiratory infections in the schools. but nothing about this specific

incident. >> they're telling us this is an unknown airborne illness, um, back in the '70's whole bunch of died because of an unknown airborne illness so that's kind of scary to think about. there's been nothing that would lead you to think that something like this would occur or an under lying medical condition. >> reporter: hamilton township health officer just plunkett says the boy was in school all week and showed no signs of being sick. the mercer county medical examiner' office collected samples for testing. >> the first sample went to the state department of health lab to test for numerous influenza viruses. the other will be going, s going to the cdc in atlanta to test for enterovirus 68. >> that's the virus if he canning children states including new jersey. while parents away the results yardville cleaned up the boy's classroom and moved his classmates into another room. >> the concern that i had was that they were doing everything they could and they assured me

they were doing more than that. >> reporter: hamilton township health officials have a warning for parents. they say if your children should any flu-like symptoms including coughing or a runny nose, call your pediatrician and follow their instructions. lucy. >> great advice, thatching dave. meanwhile the centers for disease control says a delaware child has a severe case of the enterovirus d68. now, that virus can cause mild to severe illness and with the worst cases victims need live support just to breathe. >> happening right now, almost two weeks since the deadly shooting of a pennsylvania state trooper and still no sign of the man police say is behind it. the intense manhunt for eric frein led authorities to his a ban dodd hotel in monroe county. the historic report played a feature role on television shows including mtv's fear as a hot spot of paranormal activity. the 400 room hotel is rumored to be haunted with a history of violence and murders and

suicides. it has been closed for years but it's a spot authorities say frein used to visit. state troopers believe he's still somewhere in the pike in monroe county area. he is a survivalist whom they consider armed and extremely dangerous. they say frein shot and killed corporal brian dixon and wounded his colleague. it happened out of the side state police barracks in blooming grove. investigators have since uncovered a computer hard drive that frein used and from what they gathered, they say he's been planning the attack for a few years and reading up on ways to avoid police and survive. >> the feds say they have busted a violent group of delaware drug -- group dealing drugs in delaware county. authorities say she they stashed their drugs and guns at playground. fox 29's sabina kuriakose live at police headquarters in chester. sabina. >> reporter: lucy, prosecutors say the group ran the neighborhoods here in chester. now the fbi and dea fighting to

take those streets back. chain link fence surround the basketball court and a child's slide at 11th upland streets in chester. not enough federal prosecutors say to keep out dozens of drug runners stashing crack cocaine and loaded guns on this playground and others. >> kids can't even go to the play grounds, you know, and pl play. you know like kids are supposed to. report. >> this is clear al violent and a major drug trafficking organization that pretty well had a strong hold on the community in chester. >> reporter: citywide, friday, fbi and. dea arresting more than 30 alleged members of the nicknamed rose and upland drug trafficking group. they're taking some of chester's most violent offenders off the streets. >> we are reaching epidemic proportions in our homicide ra rate. >> this 261 count indictment names 40 more people including the man investigators call the ringleader william dorsey. >> it's sad really.

like you trying to teach the kids to be better, grow up and up standing citizens and you got people out here selling drugs. it's a crime. >> the feds claim the dtg sold drugs near widener university a stone's throw from rose and upland. students here say it's another blow to blighted community. >> i understand like we don't live in the great testify neighborhood but it's kind of scary knowing that it's happening so close to campus. >> reporter: and we spoke with a lot of neighbors. people who live here off camera. they tell us they are happy that the suspects have been arrested. but they're still living in fear. even though the suspects are now in custody. lucy. thank you very much, sabina. more now on that huge philadelphia police corruption case that led to the arrest of six officers. today, a judge dismissed almost 60 cases involving former police officer jeffrey walker. walker plead guilty in february to stealing $15,000 from a dealer and trying to plant drugs in his car.

the judge is allowing 58 criminal cases involving walker to move forward. >> a bed whenning right here in the united states. police say a man who behead add woman at an oklahoma food processing plant had been trying to convert co-workers to islam. they say 30 year old al ton nolan stabbed colleen huff ford several times before severing her head at vaughn foods in moore. investigator it's say the company had just fired nolan. he left the plant, but came back and attacked huf huffford and another woman. the ceo shot nolan. the fbi is looking into weather this case is a case of domestic terrorism. >> it is a matter of death and initial statements of co-workers and other initial information that our investigators have gathered. we requested the fbi in conduc conducting a background investigation into nolan. >> nolan is now unconscious at a hospital. prosecutors say they are waiting

a roofer he's electrocuted and his colleague is hospitalized tonight. fox 29's dave schratwieser has the story. >> reporter: police say it was just after 9:00 friday morning when workers from a private ro roofing company were putting up this ladder at a corner home on win 10 avenue that made contact with the power lines. >> at this time we're investigating as far as -- as far as how contact was made with one of the wires which would be the upper wires. >> reporter: investigators say a worker in his mid 50s died at the scene. his co-worker was taken by ambulance and air lasted to hup with injuries. >> it's an unfortunate incident that at this time we are investigating peco has recharged the electricity to the residents. >> reporter: bob strickland lives right across the street from where the accident occurred on this quiet havertown street. >> all the cops were here and no one wanted to touch him because

he could have still been charged. >> peco work crews cut power to the area causing 1600 customers to lose electricity for couple of hours. detectives osha and peco safety experts arrived on scene to investigate. >> that aluminum ladder, you know, most guys are switching over to fiberglass because it doesn't conduct electricity, see. >> reporter: police identified the contracting company as roofing by gerald rof if fo from springfield delaware county. no one was atco's springfield locate. >> man died. god rest his soul and rest if peace and the man who got taken to the hospital, i hope he's okay. >> delaware state police have charged 23 year old joshua dutton with the murder of a cab driver in millsboro. he was already in jail for probation violation in august police found 45 year old william toomey strangled in his on country line road.

they have not released a motive for his murder. >> at crozer chef medical center nurses are back on the job following the strike. they ended their walkout at 7:00 this morning. the group hit the picket line earlier in the week. the nurses were striking over money, benefits and pensions. their union and the hospital have yet to reach a deal. >> a magical foundation is whisking dozens of well-deserving children to the happiest place on earth. they are headed to disneyworld. 36 children from across the country including two from our area flew to florida. something magic foundation seemed with american airlines kids in need program to send the children who all suffer from serious medical conditions. one parent from rowan, new jersey says this means the world to his son. >> zach is my son. he's four year old. he was born with cystic fibrosis but so far so good. he's been doing great. his health is good and he's really really excited to go as he calls it dizzy world. >> got to love dizzy world.

aria packing up latest shipment. 55 quilts headed for the neonatal at a time intensive care at a children's hospital in miami. she founded guilt for kids 14 years ago and an inn too tear your designer linda was taken with the massive quantities of discontinued material headed for landfills. you saw all that waste and you said there's got to be something to do with it. >> i brought it home and my husband said are you craze is he. >> maybe. quilt making operation quickly out grew her yardley home today. a handful of paid employees and an army of volunteers from all over the country turn out quilts in hundreds of colors and patterns. shin volunteers about 12 hours week. she's been making quilts for sick children for nearly 10 years. >> at theirs i was terrible. i kept on ripping out and ripping out and -- now? >> now i do good. >> reporter: april is it a gram photo of lea still caught linda's eye. >> you saw that that. >> we saw that and we knew immediately it was ours.

♪ >> flights are taking off and landing again in chicago. what mess earlier when a fire broke out at a suburban air traffic control center and forceforced hundreds of cancells and disrupted traffic across the nation and flights in and out of o'hare and midway airports stopped for more than five hours. airlines had to cancel more than 850 flights in chicago alone because of that control center fire. authorities say an faa contract employee deliberately set the

fire. they found him in the basement of that control center with self inflicted wounds. firefighters did quickly put out the flames and authorities say terrorism is not involved. in detroit a pedestrian bridge collapsed over a major freeway killing one person. police believe the driver of the truck accidentally left a back of it extended which hooked on to the bridge and brought it down. the truck driver was not wearing a seat belt. died. city officials say it could take days to clean up this mess. >> new tonight a judge approved moving a pennsylvania teen charged with high school massacre into a psychiatric hospital indefinitely. a psychologist told the judge 16 year old alex ryan bell planned the stabbing at his pittsburgh area school for april 20th 15th anniversary of columbine. school was out that day he says instead of the teen brought two kitchen knives to school on april 9th the birthday of one of those two columbine shooters much the teen stabbed 20 students and a security guard. through new york city

firefighters who worked together at ground zero following the september 11th attacks all have died of cancer the same day within hours of each other. they were in their 50s. they passed away on monday. now since the attacks, 92 firefighters have died of different cancers and pulmonary diseases believe linked to all of that air at ground zero. in 2011, president obama signed an act set aside $4.2 billion for 9/11 responders who became sick. the expense of the fund come under fire by some in congress. firefighters believe its future should never come into question. >> as we speak right now, we have over 850 members of this department who have been diagnosed with 9/11 related cancers and illnesses. >> the funding runs out in 2016 but a new york senator plans to introduce a bill to extent it by 25 years. in philadelphia she's just

>> happening right now, police are on the scene avenue hit-and-run in northwest philadelphia. investigators say two cars collided at ardley street and gargus lane killing a 73 year old man. police say the car that hit his vehicle ran stop sign and that driver then took off. >> hamilton police are right now looking for the gunman who held up a cvs on busy route 33. police say he stole the pharmacy supply of the anxiety medication

ativan by gun point. they say he's 30 to 40 yours old, 5-foot 10 and about 230 pounds. if you know anything that might help catch him, call hamilton police. a young mother just pumping gas is now hospitalized with severe burns. it happened last night when a car hit the gas pump that she was using. her three year old daughter trapped inside rescued in the nick of time. and cameras were rolling. fox 29's dawn timmeney takes us there. oh, my god! >> reporter: this is dramatic cell phone video of the fire that erupted as 21 year old jacqueline lopez was filling her gas tank at the sunoco station at aramingo and somerset around 11:30 last night. >> i just heard the bang, came outside, saw the fire. saw everybody running around scatters. >> oh bleep. >> everybody screaming. it was just chaos. like horrible. horrible. >> reporter: police say a woman who was pulling in behind

lopez accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake slamming into lopez's car and the gas pump which then burst in flames. >> i was a little nervous 'cause because it's a gas station i thought it was going to explode. >> the neck thing the lady is on fire from waist down. are you serious? all i heard is screams my baby is in there, my baby is in there! >> witnesses say a man in the car that hit lopez sprang in act kicking out car window and saving this little girl, three year old jamari who was in the back seat. >> he didn't hesitate to jump in and save the baby. he put the baby's life before his own. so i was afraid the car was going to blow up before the baby got out the car. >> fortunately the little girl escaped unharmed. her mother was severely injured. suffering second degree burns on her hands and 30-degree burns on her leg. >> we went today and they do -, very good here. she's in pain. she's in pain. she do better than yesterday.

vick degrees. 57 in wildwood as well as atlantic city. 57 in pottstown. low 60s in trenton. 61 right now in reading and lancaster checking in right now at 61 degrees. those temperatures will drop pretty much into the 50s by tomorrow morning area wide. but ultimate doppler as we scan the area, we're dry. we're quiet. we're comfortable. high pressure will be in full control so looking pretty good right now in cherry hill as well as norristown, doylestown no problems right now dealing with rain. that coastal storm that we were dealing with yesterday, it's moving out to sea. that area of low pressure. high pressure that is going to be moving in all day tomorrow we're looking at sunshine, beautiful conditions, low humidity. what about the second half of the weekend? high pressure sets up shop overhead. a lot of sunshine. first par of the day on sunday as you move into sunday evening a few more clouds will be moving toward our area, but once again we're not talking any rainfall for the upcoming weekend.
