failure, not pilot error, but it's too early to tell. the investigation is just beginning. behind me you see some montgomery county police officers joined by officials with the faa and ntsb. we can take you up above some video onsky fox earlier this evening. this -- from sky fox earlier this evening. this was a 1954 beechcraft muskateer single engine four seater owned by the pilot who survived. the fellow pilot a flight instructor, a much older man was killed in the crash. this happened at davis airport just north of montgomery village in montgomery county. according to witnesses, the plane was performing touch and goes. i guess the new owner was trying to get familiar with this aircraft and he was landing, taking off, circling back, landing, taking off and that's when this crash happened around 7:00 tonight crashing into some woods at the end of the runway next to a residential neighborhood. this 1 witness we spoke to says he -- one witness we spoke to said i heard the engine fail.

>> at about 300, 400 feet above the ground made an abrupt backfire, whereas the engine's exhaust emitted a loud gang similar to a muffled gunshot. >> reporter: dennis stiles said he saw the plane land and take off again, the pilots unlikely aware the engine was experiencing trouble. >> then made an attempt to turn the aircraft around back to the airfield. the aircraft leaning the wing over like that and trying to bring it over, unfortunately what occurred was the aircraft did what's called a tip stall where the aircraft lost lift on one side of the ring, rolled over on its top. >> reporter: stiles says he ran to the crash site and found the pilot alive but injured. >> we didn't immediately identify the second person on board who was my friend because he was wedged in between the side of the aircraft and the person that was talking. we were able to locate him and

i approached him and he felt pretty lifeless and that the moment i realized that that was my friend who had -- i would never see again. i would never fly with again. >> reporter: of course, mr. stiles was able to identify to us the pilot who survived and the one who was killed, but the authorities have not. so we are holding back on their identifications. again the faa and ntsb are here now tonight, but they'll officially launch their investigation tomorrow morning. >> thank you for the update. severe flooding in d.c.'s bloomingdale neighborhood one week ago has now receded, but tempers are still flaring among neighbors who went looking for answers tonight. fox 5's laura evans is here with that story. good evening. >> it's been a very rough go for the people the past week who live in that neighborhood. we're talking about the area of first street and rhode island avenue. let's remind you of the scene last tuesday of that massive rain moved in. the flash flooding in the bloomingdale neighborhood was

so bad it swallowed cars, damaged homes and caused really bad sewage backups in several homes. residents who say they haven't gotten answers from d.c. water called the meeting tonight and a spokesman for d.c. water who was there explained that the sewer system in that part of the city is just very old and was built when there were fewer residents. also the neighborhood is just simply lying in a geographyically low lying part of the city. so it's prone to flooding. neighbors say they are still frustrated. >> when you're at home and your basement is flooded and you're having to fix all those issues and fight with insurance companies, certainly want to be sure you have a real concrete answer that makes sense. >> what we're here to discuss is a plan we have that's going to build giant tunnels to hold all that water until the storm passes. then it will pass through the sewers down to our waste treatment plant out of people's way. >> that's the plan. it was explained tonight it will be a 13-mile tunnel to

take that water from the bloomingdale area in the case of a flood to the blue plains treatment plant, but it will be several years before that tunnel will be built. >> i'm sure neighbors will be counting down. arlington police are praising actions of a tee boy who challenged two pitbulls mauling his father possibly saving his life. the dogs went on the attack as the 62-year-old victim tried to shoo them from his yard. fox 5's paul wagner has that story tonight. >> i took my little brother's shoe and the dogs still attacking my dad. i threw the shoe at one of the dogs and got down. they started chasing me. i ran like this. my car is still there and i ran here and then went over here. then i went back inside. >> reporter: one day after his dad was viciously attacked by two pitbulls alejandro morales described what he did to distract the dogs, getting him

off his father so he could run to the safety of his truck. >> he was on the floor trying to get up, but the dogs kept like trying to bite his legs and he was unable to. he kept just falling down but kept trying to get up. >> one dog started biting from one side and the other when i tried to defend myself, the other one started biting me from the other side and finally they put me down on the floor and i started losing all my energy because i was bleeding all over the. >> reporter: after neighbors called 9 -- all over. >> reporter: after neighbors called 911 paramedics arrived on the scene followed by police. >> the dogs became very aggressive, started charging they. they jumped back in the ambulance and closed the doors. >> they told me don't move. stay there, stay there. we wait a few minutes and the police arrive. >> reporter: by then max foronda had made his way to his pickup truck as police pull their weapons and approach the

dogs. >> one started charging the officers and they made a decision to open fire on him. >> reporter: the second dog was captured by imagine control and is now at the an -- animal control and is now at the animal welfare league. foronda said his neighbor has said nothing to him so far and fears the man is angry and will confront him about the loss of his pets. >> i get into problems with him now. i just want to live in pace. >> reporter: no one answered the door at the home of the dogs' owner earlier today. the animal welfare league in arlington says it's taking care of the surviving dog until they see the results of an investigation. arlington police say the owner of the dogs could be cited for not controlling his pets. so far no charges have been filed. in the fox 5 newsroom i'm paul wagner. now to a bizarre attack in fredericksburg. two young sisters are seriously hurt tonight after they were attacked by a beaver. it happened while they were

swimming with family members here in lake anna sunday morning. the girls' mother says the large we've left her daughters with severe bite wounds. -- beaver left her daughters with severe bite wounds. >> they didn't want to do surgery because it went through the muscle tissue. the a man concern is infection. they're testing the beaver -- the main concern is investigation they're testing the we've for rabies now. >> i tried to get out and it bit my leg. >> the girls' uncle captured and killed the 65-pound beaver. they can weigh up to 75 pounds. aside from the bite wounds doctors worry the girls could have rabies. let's hope not. the federal government will keep a very close eye on metro. shawn yancy is everywhere at 11:00. >> for the first time in 50 years the federal government can regulate rail transit agencies including metro. this means the transportation department with withhold grant money if metro does not make safety improvements. the regulations were inspired in part by the 2009 red line crash that killed nine people.

virginia's attorney general refused to certify the state's new abortion rules. last month the court struck down requirements that existing clinics meet the same building standards as new hospitals. ken cuccinelli said the law was not followed. roanoke county leaders question a volunteer emt's racy past. harmony rhodes was an adult film star for several years. she passed a criminal background check and qualified for the position. she is now on a six month probation period which is standard for volunteers. another big story tonight, molestation allegations against none other than george zimmerman. he's already charged for shooting 17-year-old trayvon martin to death. now a woman has come forward claiming he abused her when they were kids. a recorded interview with police was released by the duvall county florida state's

attorney. the woman said her family traveled with zimmerman's family and said the abuse began when she was 6. >> every time that we would go up there i could just look at him and he would give me a certain look and i would know if it was going to happen when we got together for family gatherings. because he just got this look in his eye like he was going to. >> visitors say the woman just called them days after zimmerman shot trayvon martin back in february. zimmerman has admitted to shooting but says it was self- defense. two americans kidnapped in egypt have been release unharmed. you see them there, the older man in white and woman in black. the boston area residents were taken off a bus friday along with their egyptian tour guide. the accused kidnapper said he wanted investigators to release his uncle who was arrested on suspicion of drug possession. he let the american goes when he was promised authorities were working on getting his uncle out.

tomorrow. here's why. you're baking to the west of us, st. louis 98 degrees where we'll be tomorrow, one of tay 97. it's hot out there -- wichita 97. it's hot out there, not as hot as a couple weeks ago. heat bubble with humidity will pretty much stay parked over the region the next couple days. here is the three-day outlook, 98 tomorrow, 98 wednesday. we think it's dry tomorrow and some thunderstorms in the afternoon wednesday, but with thursday it's looking like we'll have more clouds, more rain and more thunderstorms. so hopefully that will keep the temperature down a little bit, but it's still going to be humid. it's really going to be humid thursday. i think some of she's thundershowers and thunderstorms would be capable -- showers and thunderstorms would be capable of very heavy rain. the heat index will be 100 or more tomorrow and wednesday. wednesday the heat index could be 105 plus, probably another heat advisory out there. mild tonight, in some cases
