alluding the authorities for more than a month. tonight, new details about his capture and first court appearance on charges of killing a state trooper and wounding another. the big story is the capture ever the aaccused cop killing eric frein. >> and he they will "action news" that he confessed to the crime that prompted the manhunt. and we have more on the big development. >> very big. for seven weeks he had this community on edge. as you imagine, they are stealing safer tonight. and frein went before a judge read along with charges. and responded only with shout answers when asked questions. and accused of murdering bryon dickson and wounding alex douglass. captured last night after a team of u.s. marshals helping in the search spotted him in a field near the birchwood pocono

airpark in tannersville. and today sources revealed that after the capture he confessed to being the lone gunman responsible for the sniper attack outside of the police barics september 12. he was arraigned on numerous charges including murder of a law enforcement officer. when asked why frein may have submitted these acts, the deputy commissioner of say the police had a very direct answer. >> i characterized his actions in the past as pure evil and i would stand by that. >> the family in this matter of corporal bryon dickson and trooper alex douglass and the pennsylvania state police have suffered an unimaginable loss of unspeakable proportions. they will never be the same. but today we find some comfort as a community that we are taking these next steps towards justice. >> authorities estimate the search for frein cost about $10 million. and it also took an emotional

toll on the community keeping an eye out for the wanted killer. and that has no price tag on it. and vernon odom is live in mondroe county where they are excited and relieved that things are starting to get back to normal. >> they are. in fact some residents told me they were literally dancing around their homes in their bare feet last night. you can see the tension has been lifted here. now getting back to his regular way of life. with eric frein locked up and never to roam these woods good, joe could return to his routine of driving in from scranton to take care of his mother's property living a few doors from frein's parents and the constant presence of heavily-armed police and helicopters overhead unnerving, so he stayed away for weeks. >> and now i can come down and mow the grace without worrying

but by 9:00, dropping down to 49 degrees. a good idea to get the kids in by then and they can go to bed or eat candy. futuretracker showing tomorrow morning things getting wet. we have some rain across our region as one low pressure across the west begins to move close to the coast. looks out across the mountains of virginia and north carolina though. they're not getting rain, they're getting snow. especially in the higher elevations and even in the afternoon, looks like the showers will be holding on, especially east of philadelphia. not only will it be wet, it's also going to be cold and windy a very raw saturday. so weekend woes for tomorrow. looking at generally a quarter inch to 3/4 of an inch of rain. the heaviest south and east of the i-95 corridor. temperatures having a hard time even hitting 50. the winds are picking up and the rain moves out on sunday. the winds create winter-like wind chills and we talk about that in the accuweather

forecast. monica? >> thank you, cecily. a montgomery county house having a ghostly time selling. the owners say the 1870's victorian home in pottstown is actually haunted by ghosts. as walter perez reports, the spooky spirits shall friendly and just add to the charm of the house. >> scott clausen say he and his wife, kathy, have already been hearing strange noises inside of the 1870 victorian home on north hanover street. and each time wrote it often as sounds much an old house in need of repairs. and then the day kathy thought someone was at the front door. >> and she went to grab the doorknob and it turned against her and she opened it and looked outside and there was no one there and she got really horrified. >> and clausen says the ghostly encounters only grew more intense, especially for kathy. >> and she saw a figure walk by and the dog followed it out the backdoor.

lot of clouds. satellite 6 along with action radar showing two low pressures. there's one off the coast of cape hatteras and another stronger upper-level feature moving through the west. that low pressure not only does it have plenty of moisture, it also has a lot of cold air. so futuretracker showing 7:30 tomorrow morning here we have some showers developing. if you look down across the appalachian mountains though, they're talking about the first snowfall of the season. some of the snow could be heavy. heading into saturday evening, the rain will begin to push offshore. and then sunday, the sunshine is back. but the problem is by sunday the two low pressures will be consolidating and that will bring us cold winds. you know, it could always be worse. the higher elevations, this is above about 4,000 feet in north carolina. talking about 6-12 inches of snow. so it's going to be wet here tomorrow, but you don't have to shovel rain.

and now the details. residents forced out into the chilly night air while watching belongings burn. the 911 call from the apartment along south 62nd street before midnight. and "action news" reporter katherine scott tells us many of the residents found the only way out of the fire was by using a backdoor. >> the flames were ferocious, the smoke thick. around 60 units evacuated at the chestnut park apartments after a fire broke out around 11:45 tonight. >> went to approach the front door and smoke everywhere. we had to go out the back window out the fire escape. >> within three minutes companies on location and they struck the second alarm. >> the crews blasted water at the fire. 75 firefighters with 22 pieces of apparatus responded to the scene in the 100 block.
