the past several weeks has not been his finest hour. >> i got it wrong in the handling of the ray rice matter. and i'm sorry for that. i got it wrong on a number of levels. from the process that i led, to the decision that i reached. but now i will get it right and do whatever is necessary to accomplish that. >> goodell said that at no time has he considered resigning. goodell announced that the nfl is partnering with the domestic violence hot line at a sexual violence resource center. goodell's biggest challenge will undoubtably be working with the players' union coming up with a new code of conduct and subsequent penalties for all nfl personnel including players. and annie mccormick is live getting reactions from goodell's comments and pledge to make the nfl into a positive force for

good. annie what did you hear there today? >> jim as you mentioned goodell said he is partnering with two national antidomestic violence groups. today we actually watched the press conference with leaders from the local anti-domestic violence groups. they say it is a great first step but need more help on the local level. >> i'd like to make a few points. >> the philadelphia domestic violence collaborative meets once a month. today they are meeting and watching the nfl press conference. representatives from congreso, women against domestic abuse, the lutheran house and others agree that they are glad that roger goodell is holding himself accountable and putting things in place to hold players accountable, too. >> it will be fascinating to see what concrete things happen as a result of this. >> goodell said the nfl is forming a long-time partnership with the national domestic violence hot line and the resource center.

the hot line sends the local caller's towards the programs here. >> talking about accountability. how is he going to make sure that he stays accountable when this is not a hot media topic. hopefully through leaders like the commissioner that spoke up today there's opportunities to increase awareness but have more community support. >> and goodell said there was an increase to hot lines following the ray rice situation. and they field 10,000 calls a year. >> it is a great start but it is a start, and he's pointing to national programs which, you know, is helpful. but we also need to do things on a local level. >> now october is domestic abuse awareness month. you can bet that they will be watching and waiting to see if the nfl actions meet their words. reporting live in philadelphia,

annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. and "world news with david muir" will have much more from roger goodell's news conference coming up at 6:30 on channel 6. this is the way it looked overnight as a four-alarm blaze erupted at north american and west york street in the kensington section of philadelphia. a blaze broke out in a vacant warehouse and spread to a paper storage facility and two firefighters with minor injuries and one other person burned. and vernon odom live at the scene of the blaze. do they know what caused it yet? >> not yet, jim. they're still throwing water on the smoldering debris and rubble left here on north american avenue. hot spots are lingering as the fire marshal waits to get on the property to look for the cause. fire erupted around 2:30 this morning with walls collapsing and spreading to an active business next store, a paper storage building. it was a four-alarmer taking

nearly two hours to distinguish. two firefighters with minor injuries. one 45-year-old man came running out of the warehouse, his body this flames. he is in critical condition tonight. and they say the vacant building has long been a haven for drug addict. >> we were kind of waiting for it, man. >> there a lot? >> all day in and out, in and out. it is a shame. >> lni says vacant building was last reviewed in march. and the owner is delinquent and it was due to go to the sheriff's sale. local residents are not satisfied with city hall's attention to this part of town and its vacant, old industrial buildings. >> i think it is a shame the buildings are getting burned down and trashed because of the squatters and everything that goes in. the city does nothing for upkeep

and they added him to the f.b.i. most wanted. and he is on billboards in the area. a $175,000 reward for his capture. a police s.u.v. slammed into a dunkin' donuts this morning in camden county. chopper 6 was over the scene on the white horse pike just after 10:30. police say it was township officer hitting another vehicle and slammed into the store. they say the officer was not responding to a call at the time. they are still investigating what caused the crash. fortunately no one seriously hurt. a 23-year-old woman from new jersey suffered serious head injuries this morning in a crash in bear, delaware. her carp and a jeep collided at an intersection at 7:15. crews rescued the women who was trapped in the car. she is in critical condition at christiana hospital. the driver. jeep was treated and we leased.

investigating what led to the accident. unless something totally unexpected between now and then, sunday morning will see a start of a strike by nurses at krocro medical center. chad pradelli. >> no negotiations planned for tonight nor tomorrow. barring a last-minute change of heart by both sides nurses will be striking here come sunday morning. the crozer-rochester -- crozer-chester nurses are ready to walk off the job. they will take part in a two-day strike. staffing, pay cuts and pension funding. >> everybody is not taking lunches, are not eating. sometimes can't go to the bathroom in a 12-hour shifts. >> working in a burn unit, parents are there months at a time and not getting the care they deserve. >> you can't take care of 7

patients when you are useled to 4. and in my unit they are demanding and there for months, we know the family. >> and they say that they remark above national averages. in a statement, nurse's at crozer-chester medical center are already the highest paid in philadelphia. the highest paid register nurse $167,000 last year. striking workers will not be off the job just two days but rather five. the hospital says that we placement nurses require at least five days of work. striking workers won't be allowed back until then. both sides say there has been little movement to get back to the negotiating table. >> i hope that maybe they see how hard it is that we are working and they come to their senses and, you know, come back to the negotiating table. >> and the hospital says that it will be open as usual and

>> a man is desperately trying to find the woman who saved his father's life. eva pilgrim explains. >> dave shaffer is thankful he has his father. >> some of my best memories growing you are doing stuff with him. >> tonight, trying to find the person who saved his dad's life here at philadelphia international airport. shaffer has taken to social media contacting "action news" through facebook and posting his dad's story. >> my dad got up to go get a cup of coffee and my step mom stayed there at the gate. when he didn't come back she got a little worried. >> august 1 his dad, also named dave and his stepmother were in terminal d flying from phl to houston to surprise him at his retirement party when his dad had a heart attack. a nurse passing guy stopped to help the dad grabbing a nearby

drizzle in the morning. by the afternoon plenty of sunshine and much warmer with a high up to 79 degrees. sunday, a few things happen. first the disturbance is rolling up the eastern seaboard. it stays offshore, not getting moisture with it. a cold front moving in from the west. between the two you get sinking air, so that squeezes the moisture out of atmosphere and brings us loads of sunshine. with wind out of the south, 85 degrees on sunday. that cold front arrivals on sunday night. could bring us a few showers, really the main impact will be cooling temperatures back into the low 70s on monday. if your heading to the link on sunday, as the eagles take on the redskins, very warm and lots of sunshine. kickoff, 81 degrees. by the fourth quarter 84 degrees. not exactly football weather but i think a lot of people will enjoy it. if your heading down the shore this weekend the ocean temperature 72 degrees. and tomorrow the air temperature pretty close to that, 73 degrees.
