this noon with breaking news from upper merion, police say that a pennsylvania turnpike worker was hit by a tractor trailer in the eastbound highway. we are looking live from chopper 6 hd you can see the truck under the overpass and what appears to be a turnpike dump truck on the scene, it looks like it was also hit by the tractor trailer along with this turnpike worker. "action news" learned that the worker was conscious while being transported to the hospital. the accident is causing delays as police are on the scene to begin this investigation. this was on the eastbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike, here in upper merion, again there is a big backup here in the area as this investigation gets underway, pennsylvania state police are there on the scene right now. we'll continue to update this breaking news story on air and online at 6abc.com. and now to the latest on the

his infinity, it broke down and he parked there and he was looking under the hood to figure out what was wrong with the car, that is when a female driver in a toyota corolla in the back came up and smashed into the infinity. the man was stuck under the hood and the woman was hurt as well. >> the gentlemen, his son was taking care of him and there was no movement in the lady's car and i jumped in and saw a baby car seat in the backseat, i took the baby out, the fog was there from the airbags exploding, i got the baby out and i helped her. she said she thought her leg was broke and i said i'll get you out before your car blows up. >> the woman has a broken femur

and the male has injuries to his head and the male is expected to survive. the baby was uninjured. roosevelt boulevard is back up and running. i'm live along the boulevard, chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a main land regional high school student has died several days after a car accident in atlantic county. she died from her injuries today. police say she was one of five soccer players from that school that was hit by a pickup truck on route 40, the other four girls were treatmented and released. the community in council rock high school and bucks county are confronting tragedy today. they have returned to class after three classmates were killed in a car accident in the final days of summer vacation. annie mccormick was there for

the somber first day back. >> a tough day for students, the first day for school without three popular sophomores and today begins a week of viewings and funerals for the three boys killed this week. >> a somber day back at castle rock high school south. they were killed in a rollover crash in the poconos, today students, administrators and parents refused to talk. but they emphasized getting them on a routine. >> we want them in school and get them to home room, we'll acknowledge this with a moment of sigh license. >> a 15-year-old new york girl was behind the wheel without a license in the single vehicle accident in the poconos. the three boys were killed in the suv, but another castle rock student survived and the driver and a passenger from new york.

school administrators immediately responded by providing help for the family and victim's friends. they held a vigil last night for more than 2,000 people. and some of the victim's family members were in attendance. they acknowledged the week ahead will be incredibly tough. it will be hard for a lot of people, a lot of people were very, very close to these kids. >> it's going to be hard for a lot of people. >> our kids will go through something we don't know how to manage, three services in three days. >> administrators want the students to be able to attend all the services and any evening events will be rescheduled and the services for friday morning, the students can be excused with a note from their parents. annie mccormick, channel 6 "action news." thousands of laid off casino workers are expected to file for

unemployment this morning. the casino closures this week left more than 5,000 people out of work. trump plaza has plans to shut down on september 16th. philadelphia police are investigating a school bus crash that left one person hurt in winfield today. at the intersection of winfield and parkside at 6:30 a.m. one student was on the bus but the child was not injured. the driver of one of the trucks was evacuated for injuries at the scene. a chemical leak that forced evacuations at drexel university is under control. it happened at north 24th street. freon began leaking on the 31st tloo this morning. a daycare center is cleaning up a fire from an overnight -- in east mt. airy, the building

we have more breaking news to pass along this hour. of an apartment fire in lower montgomery county. fire crews are on the scene as flames were reported here before noon time. in this two story apartment building on main street. this is lower south montgomery county. they found flames escaping from

a second floor unit. the fire department is getting things under control and no reports of injuries but we'll keep an eye on the situation and bring you more information as it's available to us. a reported truce between ukraine and russia is denied by both sides. russian officials say they reached an agreement with vladimir putin. the back and forth comes as president obama pledges full support for nato allies in that region. nancy writebol and her husband david went to work for a clinic in liberia last year and after nancy was affected she was flown back to the united states and kept at emory hospital in atlantic. she turned to god for strength

home depot is contacting customers that may have been the victims of a hacking scheme. they are working with banks and law enforcement to investigate unusual activity and they say this beach could be connected to those at target and pf changs. a major drug store is getting rid of cigarettes and sooner than expected. cvs stopped the sale of tobacco products starting today.

paid their fair share. time to close the loopholes for the tax cheats. dad thinks a lot about education. i'm john kane and it's about time harrisburg did too. meteorologist, david murphy, is back with us now and temperatures are feeling more september like today. >> getting closer to where you expect to be, still above average but the big difference is not as hot and humid. live double scan shows we are without precipitation and as we look outside the action cam was out earlier and we had high clouds blocking the sun and overall a mix of sun and clouds. and that is the way it will stay today. temperatures are 71 degrees and in philadelphia, the dew point is just above that 60 degree

threshold. and yesterday it was way -- you could cut it with a knife humidity. and today not so much. that number will continue to go down. the breeze will kick around every now and then this afternoon. 76 in allentown and 75 in reading and 78 in trenton and 78 in wilmington and as rick mentioned, these are not bad numbers, still feeling a lot better than yesterday with a lower humidity. satellite and radar shows you the showers and thunderstorms are well offshore now that were hereover night. sun and clouds the restd of the day today. allentown a better day and 84 instead of the low 90s and at at shore, we are also looking pretty good, and on the beach up into the 80s, only 83 and less humid than yesterday, a nice part of today's package, in philadelphia we'll get up to 88 for a high, and breezy and warm

certainly and far less humid and comfortable than yesterday. there is that wind later on from the northwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. overnight tonight mainly clear and 67 in philadelphia, some suburbs in the 60s and patchy fog developing and of course on the morning forecast tomorrow we'll be letting you know. karen rogers and i if there are any problem there's. for the afternoon commute, sun and clouds, you need sunglasses and there is sun peeks out from behind the clouds, down to the low 80s by 7:00 and for the union, a big game against toronto, 82 for the start and 79 in the 90 and minute. follow me on social media, twitter and facebook, i have a link posted to the blog about the union that previews the big match-up. i'm tweeting that out off and on

today. tomorrow is a nice one with lots of sun, and no precipitation, anything that tries to form to the west stays to the west of our area, by friday we'll start to see the return of heat and humidity and perhaps a thunderstorm. your exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, breezy and warm and 88 and nice for soccer tonight. a similar day and not bad, hot with a high of 90, and a bit more humid as the day goes on, and a pop-up shower or thunderstorm. in the soup, hot and humid and 89 is the high, and it looks like that front gets through fast enough where on sunday we see improvement. perhaps morning showers and i think they'll shut off early the way things look now and in the afternoon partly sunny and 80 for the eagles home opener, wouldn't that be nice and 70s on monday and tuesday.
