>> musical notes. >> we begin at 10 o'clock tonight with breaking news. shots are fired outside of a chester county ymca and two people have died. this all unfolded following a fight between a couple. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. this happened just before 6 o'clock at the west brandywine ymca on the 200 block of hurley road. that's where todd quinones joins us with breaking developments. todd. >> reporter: jessica, i'm told the victim worked here at this y as a fitness instructor and she was the mother of two children. she was killed here tonight outside this ymca where she worked. as you can tell it's still very much an active crime scene. the shooting happened outside on the parking lot and there were about 40 kids and parents who were here at the time that were inside the ymca, many of them of course were told were terrified. the brandywine y was then placed on lockdown. investigators say a man who had a relationship with the mom shot and killed her here at around 6 o'clock this

evening. then when police arrived to the y off hurley road the man shot and killed himself. nervous parents waited for about an hour until the lockdown was lifted and the area declared safe. no one else was hurt. we talked to a coworker of the woman who was killed as well as the chester county district attorney about the details of the shooting. >> one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet in your life. she was very motherly to everybody. >> very clear that the individual who did this, the male, had planned what he was going to do. the exact details of what he did we are not releasing yet but this was not anything that this woman ever would have seen coming. >> the identities of the mom and the shooter have not been released yet but police describe this as a clear murder-suicide involving a domestic situation. that's t the story in west domestic situation. todd quinones for "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the cw

philly. >> thank you todd. also breaking chopper three over the scene avenue shooting. a male student was shot at a off campus residence hall commons a half mile north of campus. the university went into lockdown shortly after the shooting around 4:00 p.m. that lockdown has since been lifted. the victim suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. >> developing news right now a-$10,000 reward is being offered in the abduction of a womb in germantown. this happened on west colder street. the suspect forced that woman into a car and the whole thing were was caught on surveillance video. diana rocco spoke with distraught members of this woman's familiar. >> reporter: car leash shah gaithers is a nurse. she just moved out on her own

about a month ago. with every passing hour it's becoming increasingly more difficult for her family who say they want her home no matter what it takes. >> let my daughter go. whatever it takes, i don't care, just let her go. >> and bring her back safely, that's all. we just want her to come back safe ill. a distraught family has no idea where 22 year old carlisha gaither is. >> why her. >> reporter: what's more concerning is surveillance video of her abduction sunday night. you see a man wrestling her to his car as she puts up a fight. struggling for nearly a block, she was walking home from a family party just before 10:00 when police say the man approached her. >> it was sickening. that's the only thing you can say. it looks like that he -- he knew she was coming around that corner because he parked his car, then went back for her. >> when he got in the back of the car you heard like a pat

pat, whatever it was it was like two of them and then the back window came out. >> reporter: the back passenger side window was smashed or kicked out and the car then drove off. an eyewitness who doesn't want to show his face called 911. he had been walking the opposite side of the street when he heard her scream. >> help me, help me and i turned around and i just started running up here. i called the cops as i'm like yo' screaming stop, stop, stop. he's dragging her to the car. >> reporter: he says her abductor had a large knife. it was left on the ground with her cell phone and glasses. >> we going to pray for her to get the will, the strength and the courage to fight her way out. >> reporter: and based on what you've seen in that video she certainly is a fighter. tonight police say the man described in this video as five-10, he's 25 to 30 years old and the car he was driving is a dark gray or metallic colored ford taurus, year 2000 to 2002 with pennsylvania plates and it would have both back seat windows smashed out.

anyone with information is asked to immediately contact police. we're live outside northwest detectives tonight. i'm diana rocco for "eyewitness news" on the cw philly diana thank you. tonight a 17 year old senior at radnor high school is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after allegedly writing in her journal about killing classmates a teacher and even harming herself. that girl was fascinated by the columbine massacre and penned a letter to one shooter's parents. the police superintendent read passages that convinced officers she was serious. >> imagine the power of the bullets leaving the gun with a loud bang piercing kids around me, the way they collapse, their blood splattering the floor, the screams flood the halls with corpses and if you go down a little further you'll see another excerpt, i'm homicidal and i'm fine with that. >> investigators searched her home and locker but found no weapons. police say she'll ultimately

be charged as a juvenile for making terroristic threats. >> ♪ >> we are back live in election central tonight because in just a few hours the polls will be opened. people all across the country going out to vote tomorrow deciding several important races in pennsylvania none more important than the race for governor. tonight the candidates were out pushing for every last vote. our natasha brown shows us the last minute campaigning. >> reporter: i'm natasha brown in pittsburgh where both candidates for pennsylvania governor spent their last frenzied hours before election day trying get out the vote. >> work hard. >> reporter: in the final hours before election day, governor tom corbett made a stop in west chester, pennsylvania, reminding voters why he deserves four more years in office portraying his democratic challenger tom wolf as a candidate set on raising classes on the middle class. >> it can be summed up in one word, taxes. >> reporter: but wolf is quick to fire back from this

rally in lancaster monday afternoon attacking corbett on cuts to education and the lack of job creation throughout the state. >> this is about education, it's about jobs, it's about fairness. >> reporter: the candidates wrapped up their campaigns having started on one side of the state and ended on another. hundreds of miles traveled, no time to waste. while recent polls show corbett still trailing by double digits, the gap has narrowed and it's left to voters to decide. governor tom corbett will be awaiting election results near pittsburgh. both candidates say voter turnout all throughout the state will be the key to a victory. in pittsburgh, natasha brown, "eyewitness news" on the cw philly. >> well, make sure you exercise your right to vote tomorrow. in new jersey, the polls open at 6:00 a.m. and will close at 8 o'clock n pennsylvania and delaware the hours are from 7:00 in the morning until 8 o'clock. we have you covered here on "eyewitness news." we're going to be sending out alerts on facebook and twitter all day tomorrow. you can let us know if you

them to the hit and run driver who killed a driver near east lake road in pilesgrove township october 17. moments later a second vehicle hit chelsea burns. police interviewed that driver and no charges are pending now. investigators say it was the first impact that killed her. police want to '93 who spray painted graffiti on a metal i-beam from the world trade center donated by new york city for a 9/11 memorial. the vandals used red paint to deface the memorial. they wrote in script a-writing sim used in eastern europe and parts of asia. anyone with information is urged to call police. news comes on the same day the first tenants moved into one world trade center at 1776 feet it's the tallest building. it's large enough to accommodate three people at

the shattered family thought the driver might never go to jail until now. dramatic new developments in a gut wrenching i-team investigation, demanding justice tonight on cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, an arizona man upset about a long wait to pay a fine says something that he quickly regrets. the unidentified man told workers at a phoenix courthouse that he had ebola. when they told him their computers were down. hazmat crews were called in but it didn't take long for them to figure out it was a hoax. it's unclear right now if that man will face charges. >> on the health watch, some surprising new research about shift work and how it could be hurting your health. a study found those who performed shift work had lower scores on memory, processing speed and overall brain power. it's suggests health monitoring for those who perform shift work for more than 10 years. and research found that it is possible to recover your cognitive ability at least five years after stopping that

shift work. wearable tech devices. every time you turn around it seems they're getting smaller and smaller. now many of these devices are for kids. >> like the grown up gadgets some are designed to turn fitness into fun but as jim donovan found out others are more focused on safety. >> reporter: six-year-old marco went entertains himself with his dad's smart watch all the time. so when adam saw kiddie zoom a child sized version of the gadget he got one for mark. >> modeled after a adult smart watch but with kids apps and games. pretty new and pretty fun. >> this is crazy. >> reporter: wearable tech for kids goes beyond entertainment. some options on the market like the leap band and scored are designed to encourage activity. >> doing the stuff that fitbit and other activity trackers like the nike fuel band were doing for adults but also having them work in larger school settings to try to create a group initiative.

if you love the weather and want to be featured in our news cat, become a cbs3 weather watcher. sign up now go to cbsphilly.com/watchers. it's a beautiful night in center city. a few clouds but nevertheless we'll see temperatures falling only into the 40's so it will be much more comfortable than the past couple nights and also less wind. on storm scan3 we had some clouds moving our way from the west. this line of clouds that you can see through the western part of the keystone state associated with a warm front a-leading edge of warmer air that will cross the region tomorrow and bring us temperatures that are above average for a change. right now in philadelphia, 55. 53 in millville. and in atlantic city it's 47. the poconos 50. not a huge range in temperature from north to south. state college 54. pittsburgh with those clouds and sprinkles, 49. high pressure will be just to the south of us tomorrow. that brings in a southerly wind flow. temperatures well into the 60's. in some spots we could make to

it 70 degrees. still keeping it really pleasant for wednesday but a few more clouds move in with this cold front and then by thursday we see the rain. an area of low pressure rides along this frontal boundary, periods of rain, heavy at times and even some gusty winds with this hits flow. temperatures around 60 degrees thursday but cooler air comes in after that. take a look at future weather. this shows late wednesday night into thursday morning so thursday morning that rain moves in. by 7:00 a.m. still to the west, we see some rain move in during the day, heavy at times and look at the evening. these oranges and yellows indicate something heavy rain and then it slowly moves off toward the northeast. overnight pretty quiet, just partly cloudy. the night before election day. the low 45 degrees. as you get out the vote in the morning temperatures will be in the 40's but by the afternoon just a spectacular day with plenty of sunshine, the high 67. as you get out the vote at 8:00 a.m., plenty of sunshine, 48. 2:00 p.m., 64 and after the sun sets temperatures will fall quickly into the 50's.

on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven-day forecast, wednesday you can see the clouds but it stays dry for wednesday. thursday the rain moves in. the wind really kicks in and gets gusty by thursday afternoon. the front is going to want to linger so friday there could be a lingering shower with some clouds and then the weekend gets cooler again. not as bad as last weekend. we'll see the sun out there for saturday, sunday some showers. cooler monday with a high of only 49 degrees. so, the cold wants to keep punching a hole into that warm air. sooner or later, it's going to win. >> it always does, doesn't it. >> kathy thanks. >> eagles got a win this weekend but, boy, just overshadowed by everything that happened. >> their philosophy is next man up is tested again because three big time players went down in the game. the latest on quarterback nick foles and chip kelly's next man up at quarterback, mark sanche
