weather forecast and in the meantime we hit 72 and that is a record high but you might not remember today, once the snow flakes start falling in a mere 36 hours. that snowfall has local departments of transportation getting ready for what may come and that includes a large new toy, the penndot just got in today. it is a truck, a really big truck that can clear a lane and a half at a time and spray salt on both sides unlike other trucks, you might see it if you are driving along 422, the question is, how much clearing will it have to do? lets get to meteorologist melissa magee for the answer at the big board. hi medical list. it is hard to believe we are tracking wintry precipitation day before thanksgiving because as you mentioned we had record highs not just in fill but for trenton, reading and allentown. all that is coming to a change as we get into wednesday. that winter storm watch is in effect. rain change to go wet snow. we will have more in a bit. but for now guys, back over to you.
10:10 pm
melissa, thank you, we want to bring you live right new to the president, president obama speaking and his reaction to the event in ferguson miss yuri tonight. >> michael's parents in asking anyone who protest accounts to do so peacefully. let me repeat, michael's fathers word. hurting others, or destroying property, is not the answer. no matter what the grand jury decides, i do not want my son's death to be in vein. i want us to lead to incredible change, to positive change, and, change that makes the the st. louis region better for everyone. michael brown's parents have have lost more than anyone, and we should be honoring their wishes. i also appeal to the law enforcement officials in ferguson and the region to show care and restraint in
10:11 pm
managing peaceful protest that is may occur. understand our police officers put their lives on the line every single day. they have a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold those accountable those who break the law. as they do their jobs in the coming days, they need to work with the community, not against the community to distinguish the handful of people who may use the grand jury's decision as an excuse for violence, distinguish them from the vast majority who just want their voices heard around legitimate issues in terms of how communities and law enforcement interact. finally, we need to recognize the situation in ferguson speaks to broader challenges that we still face as a nation. the fact is in too many parts of this country a deep
10:12 pm
distrust exists between law enforcement and communities of color. some of this is as a result of the legacy of racial discrimination in this country and this is tragic because nobody needs good policing more than poor communities with higher crime rates. the good news is that we know there are things we can do to help. and i have instruct attorney generaller hold tore work with cities across the country to help build better relations between communities and law enforcement. that means working with law enforcement officials to make sure their ranks are representative of the communities they serve. we know that makes a difference. it means working the training officials so that law enforcement conduct is it self in a way that is fair to everybody. it means enlisting the community actively on what should be everybody's goal and that is to prevent crime.
10:13 pm
there are good people on all sides of this debate as well as in both republican and democratic parties that are interested not only in lifting up best practices because we know that there are communities who have been able to deal with this in an effective way but also, we're interested in working with this administration and local and state officials, to start tackling much needed criminal justice reform. so those should be the lessons we draw from this tragic event. we need to recognize this is not just a issue for ferguson this is an issue for america. we have made enormous progress in race relations, over the course of the past several deck kids. i have witnessed that in my own life and to deny that
10:14 pm
progress i think is to deny america's capacity for change. but what is also true is that there are still problems and communities of color aren't just making these problems up. separate ago this from this particular decision there are issues in which the law too often feels as if it is being applied in the discriminatory fashion. i don't think that is the normal. i don't think that is true for the majority of communities or the vast majority of law enforcement officials but you these are real issues and we have to lift them up and not deny them or try to tamp them down. what we need to does understand them and figure out how do we make more progress and that can be done. that won't be done by throwing bottles. that won't be done by smashing
10:15 pm
car windows. that won't be done by using this as an excuse vandalized property and certainly won't be done by hurting anybody. to those in ferguson there are ways of channeling your concerns constructively and there are ways of channeling your concerns destructively. michael parents understand what it means to be constructive. vast majority of peaceful protesters they understand it as well. those of you who are watching tonight, understand that there is never an excuse for violence particularly when there are a lot of people and goodwill who are willing to work on these issues. there are those only interested in focusing on the violence and just want the problem to go away, need to
10:16 pm
recognize that we do have work to do here and we shouldn't try to paper it over. whenever we do that, the anger may moment trily subside but overtime it builds up and america isn't everything that it could be and i'm confident that if we focus our attention on the problem and we look at what has happened in communities around the country effectively then we can make progress not just in ferguson but in other cities and communities around the country. okay. >> will you go to ferguson when things settle down there. >> lets take a look ande how things have going. eric holder has been there. we have had a team from the justice department there they have done very good work. vast majority of the community has been working are hard to
10:17 pm
try to make sure that this becomes an opportunity for us to sees the moment and turn this into a positive sit ways but i think we have to make sure that we focus at least as much attention on all those positive activities taking place as we do on a handful of folks who end up using this as an excuse to misbehave or break the law or engage in vialens. it will be very important and i think media will have a responsibility as well to make sure that we focus on michael brown's parents and the clergy and the community leaders and civil rights leaders and activist and law enforcement officials who have been
10:18 pm
working are hard to try to find better solutions long term solutions to this issue. there is inevitably going to be some negative reaction and it will make for good tv but what we want to do is make sure that we're also focusing on those who can offer the kind of real progress that we know is possible and that the vast majority of people in ferguson, st. louis region, missouri and around the country are looking for and i want to be partners with those folks and we need to lift up that kind of constructive dialogue that is taking place, all right. thank you. >> you have been listening to the president's remarks on the ferguson decision, as we take a live picture here in ferguson as a result of that deis is in full display as you

10:30 pm
whether that smoke is tear gas, or smoke that police are using, can you describe the scene, that you have watched play out tonight. >> yeah brian and shirleen we are in the media staging area. we are away from the protest but st. louis county police say that was not tear gas they are using smoke to break up the crowds which, in some places has become unrulely. police say that people had thrown molotov cocktails at them. there has been one police caravaned alleyed. there have been reports of gunshots in the crowd, so, all that is serious problems, with protesters out there, and police are doing their best to keep it under control. we are told a thousand extra police officers out tonight, as you mentioned the national guard has been activated they are here ready to offer backup as the fbi. now when that decision was reached, just came down, marci, we have got to see here in philadelphia the reaction, it was, a very strong reaction, in philadelphia, so

10:32 pm
crowd of the protesters who we have have heard have come from all across the country tonight, are they out matched, so to speak. >> reporter: i don't know if they are out matched, i don't think would i say that. we know there are hundreds of protesters out there but we say this is something police have been planning for they knew protesters would be coming from all over the country and they feel, police feel, that they are prepared. >> all right, marci gonzales live from ferguson missouri tonight. we appreciate your time, marci as always thanks for your reporting on the ground. we want to show you a live picture from center city philadelphia, chopper six is now live over that group of protesters that we showed you first at the top of the newscast this evening, at that point they were making their way down market street they were between ninth and tenth right now. they are on brought street north of city hall where they began this peaceful protest, we heard that they tried to make their way to the police administration building but were peacefully turned away when they got there.
