beltway. same goes for 95. that's a look at 70 just west of the beltway running smoothly. be aware of deer out there. now wjz has the stories people are talking about this morning. here's don. >> thank you. the president is trying to d on a promise he made while selling his health care plan but insurance executives across this country say it may not work. here is susan mcginnis with the story for wjz. >> we fumbled the roll out on this health care law. that's on me. >> president obama is trying to fix problems with the affordable care act. he now says americans can keep their current insurance plans through 2014 even if they don't meet the standards laid out in the new healthcare law. >> this fix won't solve every problem for every person. it's going to help a lot of people. >> nearly 5 million people received cancelations notices, something the president promised wouldn't happen. democrats in congress pressured president obama to fix his broken promise before a vote today on a

republican bill in the house. the proposal lets americans keep their coverage. >> i would encourage every member to help keep that promise and vote for this bill. >> the head of insurance said the president's fix threatens to undermine the new market and may lead to higher premiums and disruption in 2014 and beyond. in order to resend cancelations notices insurance companies have 30 days to contact the people whose policies was canceled, get state regulators to sign off on any premiums and process the new policies. >> there's no guarantee companies will reinstate those

canceled policies. the president threatened to veto the bill. the man this this surveillance video shot and killed 42-year-old david porter on saturday in the barbershop on frank ford avenue. anyone with any information is asked to call baltimore city police. a possible break in the cell phone and other robberies around towson as police made three arrests. wjz and mike schuh is live with the story. good morning, mike. >> reporter: good morning. police here are saying that thee those robbers that they have arrested to over a dozen other robberies. >> wjz obtained this surveillance video shows the 7-eleven in towson. you see the clerk straighten up, she goes outside. about a minute later these men use a knife to order her back behind the counter.

police say these men are responsible for robberies that could include attacks on towson and goucher students. karina is a friend of the victim. >> was she terrified? >> she have scared. she called me later on, at like1 1:00 telling me the fact that she was scared. one of them was standing behind her with the knife held out on her. i'm sure she's very happy that they didn't didn't hurt her. >> police captured the masked men just a few blocks away. >> we will not tolerate this and we will use every resource to do that. >> it put this community on end. >> you have to keep your guard up. it's not good. >> police have charged the men and this video will be key in their prosecution. >> reporter: the ages of the men are between 25 and 37 and police say they're responsible for the robberies of two dollar

the death toll from typhoon haiyan has jumped to nearly 4,000. this morning hundreds of thousands of others are still struggling to survive there. almost 600,000 people are said to be without homes and philippinos living here in the u.s. are desperate to help their homeland. here is kai jackson with more. >> hardship continues in the philippines as people fight to survive without basic necessities. last week haiyan engulfed the island with sustained winds of 195 miles per hour. an estimated 4,500 people were killed in the super storm that flattened everything. >> it is a rally of the leaders to help the typhoon victims in the philippines. >> at the baltimore county library in towson members of the philippino community meet with members of area rotary clubs and

and therapists are raising a red flag. too much screen time with hurt their developing bodies. >> they're actually always on the ipad and not doing the pencil activities it's going to make those muscles weaker. >> like most 6-year-old nolan likes playing on his family's ipad. >> do you want me to move onto level two? >> please. >> his mom limits he has screen time but worries how much is too much knowing it can lead to muscle weakness. >> is it okay for them to be constantly looking at something? i did not know this would be a part of our parenting. >> what does this work on? >> finger and hand movement. >> it's part of nolan's oak occupational therapy. >> he likes to use all fingers together. >> he's working on hand-eye

investigators fear there may be many more abused. >> good morning. officials at fort meade held a g ing for parents last night after a former youth counselor was arrested in an fbi investigation. >> 27-year-old anthony dennis williams, a counselor at the fort meade youth center for 8 years. investigators say the man who taught a class called passport to manhood preyed on young boys. two victims came forward saying williams sexually abused them in the attic. he also exchanged graphic picture with the boys. >> it was the mother of one of the children discovered suspicious text messages. >> in one exchange found on williams phone he asked the child about the abused abuse saying what can i ask you, what got you to the point you want today go along with it. the victim responds stupidly i guess. now prosecutors are

trying to figure out if there's more victims. >> we want to reach out to the parents of the children in contact with that suspect and make sure that they ask the tough questions and find out if there may be anything that happened to them. >> officials have set up a 24-hour call center for parent that is have concerns. a statement army leaders say our priorities is to ensure the families involved in the alleged incidents are involving the support they need and we continue to fully assist the fbi with their ongoing investigation. >> williams stopped working at the youth center in 2012, meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> williams is charged with sexually abusing a minor on federal property and faces a maximum of 15 years behind bars. a former baltimore contract employee indicted for stealing employee's personal information is back in maryland. courtney calvert was arrested in florida on an unrelated case. the stolen hard driver was recovered

updates. the police department will replace its current crown victorias with the new models. they're said to be faster and more resiptive. they also have a hidden tray in the trunk for electronic police gear. they will be phased in over the next few years. there are a lot of unanswered questions this morning about a man who full from a plane and into the ocean off miami. here is marly hall with the story for wjz. >> investigators in florida are still trying to figure out how a passenger allegedly fell out of this plane and into the atlantic ocean. yesterday around 1:30 the pilot made that unaushlusual call. >> may day. i have a door ajar. i'm head ing to tamiami. >> you have a door open? >> i have a door ajar and a passenger that fell down. >> shortly after the plane took off from a private airport just

outside of miami the pilot of the piper pa-46 aircraft radioed air traffic controllers to tell them what happened. >> you said you had a passenger that fell out of your plane? >> that's correct, sir. he opened the back door and he l down plane. >> the coast guard used helicopters and boats to search for the missing passenger. authorities say they don't plan to find the man alive. >> it's reasonable that anybody that falls from an aircraft without a parachute turns into a recovery effort and not a search and rescue. >> only the pilot and one passenger were on board the plane. investigators are interviewing the pilot to try to piece together exactly what happened. marly hall, wjz eyewitness news. >> the coast guard and local fire rescue says part of their investigation is trying to confirm whether the call was real. baltimore based understood armor is leaping forward into the fitness technology market. according to the baltimore sun, under armor plans to acquire map

osteen would do. tell me about the book, how do we break out? >> it's talking about how it's easy to get stuck in life. you get up, go to work, feel like you've reached limits. i feel like the first place we get stuck in our own thinking. i talk about believing bigger and taking the limits off of yourself and from god. just practical things. keeping the right perspective. don't settle for good enough. also i talk about praying big prayers. a lot of times we pray over our food, for protection. i think you have to pray for your dreams and hopes. >> is it more self-help than religion? >> it's based on the scripture i feel like i'm helping people live out the christian life. i'm not teaching doctrine in it. this is about how to forgive,

how to have a good attitude, believe big. i feel like the scripture does help you to become better. >> okay. if i can ask you a personal quen , it's more personal towards me perhaps than you. i grew up in the church, i i communicate with large groups of people now all the time. i think i minister to them. all right. in my youth i spoke a lot at church. it was one of the few places i could find where older people would listen to a young man and not dismiss what they had to say. i know that you were involved in your father's church but in a different aspect than preaching. when he died you took over and preached for the first time and now you've taken to a grand scale if i may say so. do you ever get over the excitement, the thrill of being god's conduit or messager to a large crowd of people?

>> i don't think you ever get over it. at least i don't. i feel humbled and rewarded evei get to speak in front of them. to hear their stories and how in some way you've touched them, of course it's through the lord, but i don't ever lose that sense of amazement, even when i stand up at my church back at home. we have services where the rockets used to play basketball. i had season tickets when they were there. every time i stand up to minister i still feel overwhelmed. it's a part of our message that god's plan for your life is bigger than you own. you don't know where he's going to take you. you stay faithful, honor him and he will do amazing things with you arrive. >> it sits 40,000 people. >> it sits closer to 16,000 pe.
