total destruction. >> the recovery efforts days after one of the strongest storms ever. good afternoon. i'm don scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. recovery efforts pouring in. it's feared the death toll will soon climb to 10,000. the latest for wjz. >> typhoon haiyan destroyed everything in its path leaving families to find shelter wherever they can. survivors across the philippines are growing desperate, even painting signs for rescue helicopters. >> we want water and medicine for the injured. we just need your help. >> u.s. marines are arriving with badly needed supplies for the millions of disaster victims. >> there was 15 to 25 feet waves that came across the entire villages. so everything

is wiped out. >> witnesses say the damage from friday's deadly typhoon looks more like the after math of a tsunami. >> it's horrific. >> bodies lined the streets. some are losing guns to fight off lewders. these american storm chasers became rescuers when the typhoon tore through a hotel. they used mattresses to help people escape. >> tens of thousands are feared dead. the death toll is difficult to track because phone lines are down. a sign of life came today in one of the hardest hit villages when a woman gave birth to a baby girl. >> back here some locally based organizations are jumping many to help with much needed supplies. >> we're told that it's as big a disaster in terms of its

forecast. increasing cloud cover. winds are coming out of the south. they're going to make a dramatic shift, coming out of the north into tuesday. why exactly that's important, out to marty bass for those details. >> reporter: thank you. hi, everybody. once again we'ro prove that weather and especially temperatures falls around the phrase of where is the air coming from. it's going to be coming out of the north, northwest. that is where it is cold. there's arctic air in place. as a matter of fact, let's take a look at our national temperature graphic. when i say national, let's throw in canada too. you understand what i'm saying. look at that pool of cold air sitting north of the great lakes. look at the really cold air sitting out south of that frigid air that's already in place over the great lakes states and down towards the mid atlantic. all we've got to do is get a slight north,

northwest wind and we tap into that. the air is coming from where it gets cold. wait until you hear these numbers. more than some wet snow flakes tomorrow morning. chelsea ingram has those details shortly. now back inside. >> thank you. wjz is always on for weather, watches and warning. please log onto cbsbaltimore.com any time. an elderly man is dead after a house fire in college park. it broke out yesterday early morning. firefighters say the home was packed with boxes which made it difficult for them to get around. an 80-year-old woman escaped but an 82-year-old man believed to be her husband is dead. all is back to normal at in the locus point section of south baltimore after a telephone threat to police shut out down. yesterday afternoon '911 dispatchers say they got a a call threatening employees. the

building and the neighborhood around it were then shut down for 5 hours as quick response units investigated. it was later determined to be a hoax. police are trying to trace the caller who will face a long list of charges and fines. in annapolis a city councilman wants to move away from a strong mayor type of governing. this comes days after republican mike pantelides was elected mayor. now ross arnette wants to shift it over to a council manager style of government. that means the city manager would report directly to the council and not the mayor. the ravens break their losing streak with an exciting over time win against the bengals. ron matz has today's fan cam. we will start with sports director mark viviano and more on the ravens win. >> the ravens and bengals played one of the sloppiest football games. they combined for six turn overs and 17

penalties. even though the ravens blew a 17-0 lead on their home field baltimore had reason to celebrate in the end. >> amid all the mistakes the ravens got good enough field position early to score two touchdowns. flacco to smith for a 17-0 lead. the offense was awful. flacco had two interceptions and fumbled one away and was sacked five times and the ravens didn't score in the second half. in a similar way the ravens beat up bengals quarterback andy dalton. he threw three interceptions. the bengals stunned the ravens with a second half come back capped on the last play of regulation. a desperation pass tipped into the hands of a.j. green. >> the ravens made a big defensive stop and put themselves in position to win it with field goal.

welcome back. we've got plenty of sunshine out there right now. clouds will increase as we head into the over night hours tonight. we've got temperatures ranging anywhere from 43 degrees in oakland up to 55 degrees in ocean city with the normal with this time of the

year around 58 degrees. at the airport we're sitting right at 53 degrees. locally seeing temperatures anywhere from 50 in westminster to 54 degrees in dc. winds are coming out of the south. they're going the make a shift into tomorrow. that means tuesday they will be coming out of the north. they will be associated with a cold front that's headed our way. so all eyes right now are on the northern planes and the great lakes region as this cold front makes its push down into the mid atlantic. it's going to bring cold air along with it. you can see that cold air up in the northern plains. that's headed our way. we're not going to dip down into the teens but we'll see over night lows in the 20s on tuesday and wednesday. chilly air is going to be headed right into our neighborhood. not only chilly air, we'll see a little bit of rainfall as that cold front moves through during the morning commute. on the
