>> i'm don scott. >> and i'm jessica kartalija. here's what people talk about today. you'll remember the dog beaten by his owner. animal advocates are furious over his punishment. he's been assigned to take care of other abused animals. >> reporter: hi, don, the animal lovers say he deserves jail time, instead they're barking mad that he's been ordered to volunteer at an animal shelter. >> reporter: this image is too disturbing to show. the neighbors called the police after seeing the dog beaten by the owner. the dog's injuries were a broken right front leg and his ribs were shattered and his teeth were missing. >> reporter: in august, the police officers found the dog

tied up in a garbage bag, he died later. he was charged with animal cruelty and a judge agreed to drop the case if he performed community service at the spca. >> this is a violent case, it's a disturbing case and we don't want someone like that near our animals. report the maryland spca director will deny the volunteer service out raged that the prosecutors and a judge would allow an animal abuser to work at the facility. >> if the judicial system wants rehabilitation, that's wonderful, but counseling makes more sense. you wouldn't do that if you had someone violent with children working with children. >> because of a court recorder that's in place now, he may have to ask a judge for a new

sentence if he can't fulfill the current sentence of volunteering at an animal shelter. thank you, derek. an attorney tells the sun that his client only beat him after it bit him and his wife. right now, the family and friends are gathered to remember a fallston freshman. the funeral for joey d'entremont is taking place in joppa. he was crossing a road in bel air last week and he was hit by a car. the investigators say that the 19-year-old had the right of way. >> a glenn bernie man is behind bars charged with enticing a 12- year-old girl into prostitution. here's the latest. >> well, federal pros cuters say that -- prosecutors say the man took the girl to atlantic city and she had sex for money eight

times. he refused to take her home and threatened to shoot her. when she was left alone, she called her mother. he's charged with sex trafficking of a minor. the victim is now with her family. jessica, back to you. if convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars. a hearing is scheduled to determine if a man accused of killing a state trooper should be freed until his trial. the officer was gunned down in february working at the anable bees -- applebees. the man is charged with providing the weapon. three are charged with a brutal beating and robbery. a woman accepted a ride and

they assaulted her with a stun gun and a hammer. anyone with information, call the sheriff's office. lawmakers are ready to grill the executives from two egg companies about the changes they made since the summer's recall. 1600 people got salmonella from the tainted eggs and joel brown has more. >> reporter: the owner from an iowa company at the center of the egg recall is ready to tell congress and the public he's sorry and he was horrified to learn his eggs made thousands sick. he's been called before a house panel looking into the august recall of half a billion eggs. lawmakers want to know what changes his company has made since the out break. the fda investigation hasn't turned up a specific cause to the out break, but they found

evidence that the string was present at the plant and at wright county egg, it's a provider for the company. records show, he saved millions of dollars in fines over years for health, safety and immigration and environmental violations. after the recall, the inspectors visited the company. during those visits, they found live rodents and mice at the farms and they also found manure piled deep, it was leaking into a building's foundation and they also found maggots and flies. the head of the county will tell they made changes after the recall. and he plans to remove the chickens that haven't been vaccinated against the string of salmonella. in washington, joel brown, wjz- 13 eyewitness news.

federal officials say for every case of salmonella that's reported, there could be as many as 30 unreported. summer comes to an end tonight and it won't feel like it then or tomorrow. a live look outside, it's already warming up nicely, thank you very much. we're live with first warning weather coverage. bernadette woods is live in the weather center. good afternoon, we're going to look at the first warning doppler radar. we have a cold front moving to the north today. it has thunderstorms with it. we have the chance for showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon. here's a graphic that's put together. it shows the front coming through and when we get a shower and a thunderstorm, it could be strong because the fact that the heat's starting to build. it's 82 degrees outside and we haven't been that warm in a few days. we'll keep rising throughout the next few days. the next few days will be hot ones. the attack ads are ramping

welcome back, everybody. well, a nice place to be, it will be cooler along the water than inland. temperatures are really going up this afternoon. we're in 80 in baltimore and you can see that's starting to kick in closer to the water. you can see that breaking apart into the afternoon. the dew points are up and it's feeling muggy. the winds are turned around to the south. we have a coastal flood advisory in effect for the next high tide or two with the winds

out of the south. here's the next front moving our way. we're on the southern side of it. notice how it continues to get broken up. as this moves our way, it's the chance for a shower or a thunderstorm. and the storm prediction center put us at a risk for a severe storm. it will be a close call. we have a chance for a shower and thunderstorm. that front gets out of here and here's the next one. while it does, the temperatures will sore. then, the front comes through saturday. there's a chance for a shower with it. it gets knocked off to the south and it will bring the heat back with it. out on the water, this is meandering around. it's going to turn around to the northwest and winds are at 46 miles per hour. you have to highlight this, it could be the next organized tropical storm system. and it's matthew and we'll keep you updated on that one.
