flooding in massachusetts. overnight, high water blasted through a seawall south of boston. rescuers pulled more than a dozen people to safety, after water surrounded their homes. in downtown boston, the high tide is flooding streets. many of the city's thoroughfares look like icy rivers. a local subway station is even flooded, with water pouring down the stairs. yesterdays snow storm left it's mark on airports along the east coast. and here at home -- thousands of passengers were forced to make an unexpected trip to dulles thanks to the snow. passengers on more than 30 flights, that were supposed to go to airports such as jfk or newark, were instead rerouted to dulles due to the storm. many of the rerouted flights were from other countries. some rerouted passengers describe waiting four to seven hours for their luggage after landing.

of it's travelers - both intended and unexpected for their patience. so far this morning several flights to new york are still delayed. in these frigid temperatures, crews throughout our area are busy.. racing to fix broken pipes. montgomery county fire department spokesman pete piringer says the cold weather isn't just affecting pipes on the outside. he says inside pipes are impacted as well. with fluctuating temperatures in the next few weeks, he expects to get more calls from homeowners. piringer says to avoid problems with pipes inside, open the bottom underneath your kitchen sink. you can also allow a small amount of water to trickle through the pipes. if you're away, leave your thermostat above 55 degrees.

frigid air means trouble for your car. coming up in about half an hour here on good morning washington -- suzanne kennedy is getting an inside look at what triple "a" deals with during this wintry weather. developing now -- that cold weather... making things even tougher for police at the scene of a shooting in prince george's county. the wind was literally blowing evidence markers away here in hyattsville. at this hour -- police are still trying to track down whoever pulled the trigger. police found a man shot inside a damaged dodge s-u-v yesterday. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. new this morning -- a local book store open late overnight -- thanks to an explosive new book all about president trump. want some inspirational stories for a change? you gotta check out the american dream. saturdays, 1pm, newschannel8 a swat team is caught on camera surrounding a man with their guns drawn -- taking him into custody. the takedown happened in the middle of a parking lot on south clark street thursday afternoon. this all happened as arlington county police were executing a warrant in a narcotics investigation. that suspect was arrested without incident. an uber driver -- facing charges this morning -- accused of sexually assaulting a passenger. police claim -- kal harte-mariam picked up a woman around 1:30 in the morning, on december 27th -- topped the car along a street in sterling... and then climbed into the back seat and attacked her. he's now being held without bond. we finally have a winner in that tied race for virginia's 94th house district.

incumbent -- david yancey -- declared the winner after officials drew his name from a bowl yesterday. this would mean republicans maintain control of the house of delegates, 51-49. however, democratic challenger shelly simonds -- is still not conceding. she could request another recount. starting next week, personal cell phones will be off-limits for white house staff and guests. instead -- all cell communication will have to be done with government-issued devices. the white house denied the cell phone ban is meant to stop leaks. the white house claims its policy has been in the works for more than six months. it's unclear if the policy also applies to president trump. a controversial move by a gym-chain. life time fitness is

when a hot air balloon crashes in egypt. adrianna hopkins is standing by with the details. that hot air balloon was packed with 20 foreign tourist sightseeing over luxor. investigators say the crash was caused by strong winds that forced the balloon off its course.. crashing into the mountains. the tourist killed was from south africa. hot air balloon crashes have occured in this area before. back in 2013..19 foreign tourists were killed when their balloon caught fire.
