right now on "nbc 10 news today." in the dark and without heat. we're following crews scrambling to restore power to tens of thousands still without it from friday's storm. >> back on track. rail service is almost at full steam after a rough couple of days for commuters. there are still lingering problems. in the breeze so to speak. in for another gusty day. but the winds won't be as strong as yesterday. certainly not as friday an the sun will be shining. enjoy it while you can. because more snow could be on the way this week. i don't want to tell you this, but we want to make sure we're prepared and don't want krystal to be the bearer of the bad news. i'm rosemary connors. >> pim dray clark.

it's account on this sunday morning. people are cleaning up tree limbs after that big blast of winter on friday night. let's get a look at the first alert meteorologist krystal klei, with the weather. impacting during the workweek. current winds is where we're starting. the last couple of days, we're still going to have breezy to windy conditions today. we're under the influence of that system that has been very, very slowly moving farther and farther east away from us. the winds are still impacting us. right around 15 to 20 miles per hour sustained winds. these are not gusts. they're sustained constant winds. 18 miles per hour in philly. 20 in allentown and 16 in wilmington. as we go through the day, this is going to stick. we're talking gusts 25 to 35 miles per hour possible. especially peaking a little in the afternoon. after your feels-like temperatures, because of the winds, it feels colder than it actually is. we're actually in the upper 30s, low 40s. but it feels like right around

freezing. 33 at wilmington, 31 in atlantic city. and 31 in trenton. allentown, you're feeling like 20s out there. 27 degrees. look at mt. pocono. 14 for the current windchill. on radar and satellite, clouds in place. still under the influence of the backside of that system. it's still pulling out east. it's going to drag the clouds with it as we go through today. they're going to break more and more. by this afternoon, i do expect we're going to see a good bit of sunshine mixing in with scattered clouds. today, sunny and chilly. then, yes, into the workweek, we have a chance another system with snow. we'll talk about that coming up. thanks, krystal. power crews are keeping very busy repairing thousands of outages around the region. peco is working on more than 125,000 outages. keep in mind at over 600,000 at the height of the storm. the latest numbers are on the screen for the different power

companies. randy gyllenhaal is live in bryn mawr along old golf road. known for the tall trees that come crashing down. randy? >> reporter: yeah. that wind really caused a lot of them to come down. peco tells us the worst outages remain in delaware county and also in montgomery county. we're here in bryn mawr which straddles the line. this first up is a transformer that blew the actual wind, knocked down the tran former pole. does not appear it had anything to do with the tree. if you look up, that's where it snapped above us. that's what peco will be doing to repair this power line. you have obvious power issues. peco tells us this one is deenergized. we're going to be careful as we walk. this is a crazy scene as we walk over here. this was a large tree. you can see up here. this is where it snapped in the height of that wind. gigantic stree coming crashing down on to this vehicle. we'll slowly walk over here and

show you the damage this tree did to this, looks like corporate company vanna of some sort. it really crushed the driver's side of this van. peco will have to deal with these kinds of things as well. dealing with not just the power lines that are down and damage to vehicles, trees blocking roadways. i can tell you, we were just in gladwyne driving around. we had to make at least four detours because there were so many trees blocking the roads there. this explains why this may be taking longer than you think. you look around, no snow, the wind has died down but the cleanup is going to take a while. peco is dealing with 125,000 still out now. it could take until monday to get the vast majority of those back online. some isolated cases could take until the middle of the week. tree company will be busy dealing with things like this. i'm randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. incredible video of that car

there. new video of a tree that hit a car. the tree crashed at bell mount and bin field avenues this morning. one car was damaged, another was stuck in mud at the scene. luckily, no one was hurt. in delaware county, neighbors trying to get around this tree blocking oxford road in havertown. you can see the tree hung up in power lines. utility crews are working to clean up that damage. comcast wants to help you power up after the storm. you can head to any of the xfinity stores to plug in and power up one of your devices. comcast is the parent company of nbc 10. when the storm finally moved out yesterday, 30th street station in philadelphia turned into a packed house. amtrak trains started rolling along again on the northeast corridor. some riders ended up spending the night at 30th street because amtrak canceled all trains from friday afternoon until yesterday morning. most septa trains are back on track. but with some delays. rail lines that are still out of service include chestnut hill east in west trenton, falling

trees landed on the tracks. you see it. as for septa buses and trollies, more than 2 dozen were running on detoured routes. some buses like this one had trees fall on top of them. they're hoping to fully restore service by tomorrow. a 48-year-old man is dead after crashing into a fence around midnight in philadelphia's east falls nand. the driver lost control and hit the fence at a septa station. they're still investigating why that crash happened. today a philadelphia restaurant closed by a building fire on the block will hold a fundraiser for its employees. workers at the little lion at third and chestnut streets will be off the job for at least two months. the benefit, which includes a silent auction is set for mad rex's in fish town from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. that fire happened on february 18th. you may recall that. it started in this historic building that housed a close diner on the first floor and condos on the upper floors.

two firefighters had minor injuries. they're preparing the structure for demolition. they're still looking for the cause of the fire. tomorrow, new jersey will take the next step towards legalizing recreational marijuana. the assembly oversight committee will hear from experts on legalization. governor phil murphy promised on the campaign trail to make marijuana legal recreationally in the garden state. right now, he's working on his first budget. he estimates that changing the law to allow it to bring in $300 million in revenue. on friday, federal judges will hear the republican challenge to pennsylvania's new congressional redistricting map. last month the state supreme court threw out the old map ruling it unfairly gerrymandered to a favored gop candidate. he rejected a republican redo of the map leaving the high court to create its own. the gop wants that map created by the state supreme court of pennsylvania tossed out before the may 15th primary.

pennsylvania. if you peek outside your window, you're going it looks pretty cloudy again. the good news, the clouds, like yesterday afternoon are going to break later in the day and thin out a little bit. we should see some sunshine much even though right now in easton, it is a bit of a cloudy picture. this is what we're looking at moving forward. a chilly sunny sunday. seasonal dry start to the workweek both monday and even tuesday. by tuesday night and especially wednesday, our next storm hits and yet again, we're talking a potential for more snow. for today, though, here's the feels-like temperatures. by 10:00 a.m., around freezing and then we'll feel like the upper 30s this afternoon. because of those winds, that's as good as it gets. we're also clear by the afternoon hours, with just scattered clouds remaining. in the suburbs, 34 degrees at 3:00 p.m. and feeling like 31 degrees in the lehigh valley. parts of lehigh valley may only feel about freezing at best in the afternoon hours. for delaware, mere 40 degrees for the feels-like at 3:00 p.m. same deal in new jersey and the

massive fire in pennsylvania. this happened outside of pittsburgh. the victim was sleeping at the time. crews were able to pull him out. but he died at the hospital. the family says the victim worked from the building and had been looking forward to retiring later on this year. talk political news now. elections overseas. italians are going to the polls this morning in one of the most uncertain elections in years. >> the campaign has been marked by anger over the poor economy, high unemployment and immigration. the coalition that capitalized on the anti-migrant sentiment has been leading in the polls, actually. analysts predict there will be no clear winner. if that happens, it could be weeks before a coalition government is actually formed. a tense scene in washington this weekend. now the secret service is trying to learn more about the man who shot and killed himself just outside the white house fence yesterday. here's what we know. according to the agency, the man armed with a handgun did not fire shots at the white house which went into lockdown. president trump and the first lady were in florida at the time

of the incident. buying the type of assault-style rifle is still legal in that state. yesterday republicans faced senators rejected a democratic-backed measure to ban the sale of that weapon for two years. student survivors tweeted, they won't forget the gop's decision. meanwhile, in south florida x a group educators protested state legislation that could arm teachers in classrooms. it happened near the site of the high school shooting that killed 17 people. teachers at the rally insisted that putting guns in their hands is not the solution. >> there's not a single teacher, not a single student that i have spoken to over the past several days about this topic that think it's a good idea to introduce more guns into our classroom. >> florida lawmakers have until friday to decide on the legislation. new this morning, west virginia teachers insist their strike will go on since

lawmakers did not give them their promised raise. the teachers negotiated a 5% raise with the governor but last night the republican-controlled senate voted to lower the raise to 4%. teachers now say they will be back on the picket lines tomorrow. schools have been closed for seven days. 9:17 right now on this sunday. this week president trump plans to implement his controversial new plan on taxes on aluminum and steel imports. >> the president stunned the world last week, even surprising his closest individuaadviser. europe is threateningt tariffs n bourbon and blue jeans. >> experts say american jobs could be lost if a new trade war starts. many republicans who are against the tariffs continue to hope the president may change his mind. i'm meteorologist krystal

klei. we're starting with a live camera view over south fiphilly area. you can see the bridge in the background and then you see a lot of gray, right? we've got the cloudy conditions that we saw yesterday. like yesterday, these clouds will break apart in the afternoon and in fact, i think we'll have more sunshine than in the afternoon. that's still a few hours away before we get the clearing. take a look on radar and satellite. this deck of clouds hanging over our area. harrisburg is in the clear here. we are going to see these shift a bit and spin april bit by your afternoon hours. so there's that silver lining. we will be chilly today, but we'll also be sunny. there's still coastal flood advisory in place. this is along the jersey shore and our delaware beaches. this has been downgraded from the coastal flood warning put in place yesterday. here's why. those northwest winds as i talked about yesterday really did help us out. we only saw yesterday some minor coastal flooding.

still a potential with high tides that are currently happening. 8:45 to 9:45 is the typical slot for hi tides to hit and later for the back bays. minor tidal flooding may occur, specifically in the areas that wash out with those kind of conditions. wind speeds, well, we're looking at winds yet again on the high side. 15, 20, even 25 mile per hour sustained winds are possible today. you can see the winds are coming from the northwest which means two things. a, yeah, it's another breezy to windy day like the last few. but they're not quite as strong as last few. b, it also means that because it's from the northwest, we aren't going to warm up. temperatures into the 40s and with the winds, it will feel more like the upper 30s. here are the actual forecast highs. they're almost verbatim of what yesterday. 36 in philadelphia and south jersey. 44 in the lehigh valley. i showed you this a few minutes ago am delaware will only feel like about 40 by 3:00 this

afternoon. let talk about the next coastal storm. when are we talking about? tuesday night through wednesday night. some models want to keep it to thursday morning. what are we talking about? rain turning to snow, possibly shoveling kind of snow. may be a period of heavy snow falling heechb down into philly. totals are still in question. models are not in agreement. looking like we need to fine tune that over the next few model runs. we are discussing that already as a team. i'll tell you about a text conversation going on. winds, it's going to be windy but not as windy as what we saw on friday. we'll talk more about that with your future model in the next half hour. >> he is a fun-loving young guy who loves basketball and enjoys cooking. but he is missing an important ingredient in his life. a forever family. vai sikahema introduces us to ricky. >> we came to the jma institute of culinary arts because ricky wants to be a chef.

a trees smashing into this van. the driver was inside. we talked to the neighbor who helped get him out. we just have clouds in place. they're going to thin out for a breezy, chilly but at least somewhat sunny day. the bad news, this picture of just clouds may turn to rain and snow by midweek. the details on that upcoming storm coming up.

after the storm. two days later, tens of thousands of people are still without power. we're live with an update on the power problems across the area. on the loose. a shooter opens fire on a car in northern liberty. one person is dead, another is critical. philadelphia police are looking for the gunman. the details coming up. a live look outside at a chilly center city philadelphia. hold on to your hats. the wind is brewing up a strong breeze. what it means for your neighborhood coming up in the first alert forecast. good morning. i'm dray clark. >> i'm rosemary can norse. it's 9:30 on this sunday. thanks for being with us. the weather definitely improved from friday. we're watching more windy conditions outside. it's not going to get very warm.

meteorologist krystal klei has the details in the first alert forecast. krystal? >> today's headlines, chilly and still windy. take a look at the feels-like temperatures out here because of the winds this morning which are mostly right around that 15 to 20 mile per hour range. 31. what it feels like in philadelphia and mt. holly as well as trenton. 27 in allentown and just now, getting above freezing in wilmington. feeling like 33 degrees. now, the actual temperatures are quite a bit different. mostly in the upper 30s to 40s. philly, allentown, you're at 37 for the actual temperature. this does mean, yes, we may climb 5, 10 more degrees as we get into the afternoon. but it's going to feel 5, 10 degrees cooler than that putting us in the upper 30s p radar and satellite, there's the view. we have clouds still hanging over our region. that's pretty much where they stop. you go farther west and it clears out some. by later today, we'll get more of that sunshine and we'll see a mostly sunny, partly cloudy mix across the region. the temperature trend, well, we

go from 40 degrees right now to about 44 at noontime and 46 by 3:00 in the afternoon. the winds, though, still picking up. around 20, 25 miles per hour. gusts maybe into the 30s. so that is why we'll feel so much cooler and in the 30s. coming up in a few minutes, we'll talk more about our neighborhood conditions for our sunday and we'll get to the details on that next storm system moving in during the workweek. thank you, krystal. a man in north jersey who touched the live downed power line is the 9th person to die in a major storm. there was a trail of damage left from the carolinas to maine. in quincy, massachusetts, the national guard evacuated people to shelters. as of last night, well over a million households were still without power. in our region shall the storm at its height took out power to $616,000 peco customers. it's just above 125,000 this

morning. also on the screen, the latest numbers from ppl, pse and g, ac electric and delmarva. >> rabdndy, that picture behind you, hard to believe that happened to that vehicle there. >> reporter: this block of old golf road in bryn mawr, you mentioned the power outages, 125k. that's the worst in delaware county, second number in montgomery county. this is one of the transformers that blew and fell. you can see the wind snapped the power line in half, causing it to fall to the ground, knocking out power to this entire neighborhood. then a chain reaction thing started to happen. cars were driving through here on the day of the storm. we're told that's when neighbors heard a loud crash. that's because this tree up here snapped in half. it's a really old tree, really wide. it still came tumbling down and look where it fell on a car driving by. this is actually a van. a corporate van for some

company. there was a guy inside going slowly down this road. we talked to one of the neighbors who heard that loud crash, peeked her head outside the window and ran out here to help. >> i poked my head out and i asked if he needed help. he had blood on his face. disor yepted. it turns out this was his car and he was in it. he said he managed to crawl out the window. emergency crews were called and so he was luckily -- >> he was walking? he only had stitches. >> i provided him some paper towels and was asking if he needed help. yeah. he was walking and he was saying he was okay. yeah, luckily he stopped by yesterday looking for things and getting some things out of the car. he is okay. >> reporter: yeah. incredible story there. he came to her house yesterday. only had stitches on his head. he made it out of there alive. quite an incredible story. you can see it's all still left behind here two days later.

this is part of the reason we're still seeing outages across the area. in addition to the power lines, power poles that peco has to deal with, they've got to get crews out to clear all of this debris as well. so 125 -- 25,000 out annals now. it could take until monday. isolated cases by the middle of the week. we are expecting another system by that time. for now, live in bryn mawr, randy gyllenhaal. nbc 10 news. oh, my god! >> that was the response to this chain reaction caught on video last night. it started with a downed tree in havertown, delaware koichlt about the same time a transformer caught fire. that's the blue light in the sky. a driver hit the brakes on his car as another tree fell hitting his hood. fortunately, the driver was not hurt. staying in delaware county, several trees toppled over next to this house in drexel hill.

you can seep the pile of broken branches much the falling trees just missed the house. no doubt, the homeowners are breathing a sigh of relief. in other news, one man is dead, another in critical condition after both were shot in philadelphia. it happened at 6:00 in spring garden streets and northern liberty. somebody opened fire on the men as they were sitting inside the car. investigators believe the shooter took off in a silver-colored car. all lanes reopened on roosevelt boulevard following a deadly scent in the mayfair section. philadelphia police tell us that a woman crashed into the tree. she died at the hospital. police are still investigating exactly how this accident happened. this morning, we're following news out of atlantic county where a police officer is recovering after a suspected drunk driver slammed into his patrol car. it happened in hamilton township during the storm. the officer was diverting traffic on to route 50 because of downed power lines.

that's when the driver crashed into the front of the officer's car. the driver was not hurt. but he is facing a number of charges. tomorrow lawyers for bill cosby will be back in court to ask the judge to throw out the case altogether. cosby's lawyers are expected to make several motions including lack of evidence and misconduct by prosecutors. right now, cosby's retrial is set for next month in norristown. the comedian is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand at his montgomery home in 2004. he may remember his first trial last summer ended in a hung jury. also tomorrow, a philadelphia community will come together to remember a hero killed in the line of duty. a vigil will be held for sergeant robert wilson ii: he was killed in a shootout inside a game stop in 2010.

. meteorologist krystal klei here. let's talk about the current conditions outside with a few live cameras to accompany them. starting in philadelphia. you can see it's a cloudy picture. but if you look at the suburbs, nersvalley, delaware, i know, they're all cloudy right now. you're thinking it's going to be a dreary day. i do think as we get into the afternoon hours, the clouds will pull farther to the east and break some. kind of like yesterday afternoon, we should see some sunshine mixing in. some spots mostly sunny by later in the day. temperaturewise, we're at 40 in philadelphia. 37 in the pennsylvania suburbs
