doing to prepare for cases in this area. a warning as you head out the door this morning, we're tracking fog. it is exactly 5:30. good morning welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato. meteorologist bill henley has a look at the fog situation. good morning, bill. >> we are seeing the warm air push in with lots of moisture and that's creating the fog this morning north and west. not terribly thick, but it is present. and it could get a bit thicker before the sun takes over and really warms things up during the day. that's a clear view across the delaware of center city. no fog there, but farther north and west, that's where we're seeing some of the gray stuff. six miles for allentown and holding half a mile now in mt. pocono where we started the day with quarter mile visibility. philadelphia international, northeast philadelphia no fog and no fog in delaware or south jersey. so, just parts of the area.

and everybody seeing temperatures in the 60s right now. ten plus degrees warmer than yesterday for some spots. and the warming continues. fog disappears, clouds thin out. see 71 degrees at 9:00 and upper 70s and still climbing at lunchtime. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood to show you what to expect later today. first, katy zachary is watching traffic. hi, katy. >> the effects of the fog and lots of fog from our berks county camera. right at 37 where you can make out the headlights and taillights. as we go south and east you'll see from our camera route, fog isn't as much of an issue. we have much clearer view. there are some damp roadways and that's just another thing drivers are going to have to deal with in northeast philadelphia, there's a fire up in that area, vista street and an alternate around that is frankfurt avenue and to give you an idea of speeds right now in new jersey in the 50s and 60s.

so, new jersey drivers are good to go. katy mentioned a fire we're following for you. update you on the tacony section of philadelphia. jesse gary is there live on the scene of that house fire. jesse, what is the latest? >> tracy, major firefighting operations have stopped. right now firefighters no longer pouring water on to the scene. you see the burnt row house there. that's the epicenter of the fire. let's look at our video. we arrived maybe about 45 minutes ago and firefighters were spraying water on to the scene and from this block, this over into the next block. we're near vista. residents say everybody made it out, but one firefighter suffered what appears to be smoke inhalation and taken out by stretchers and still trying to work to and csand confirm hit injuries. neighbors said they heard screams from outside and that's

how they were alerted to the trouble. >> i'd open up my screen and i've seen the smoke coming out and i started yelling and woke up my fiancee and grabbed the baby and grabbed the cats and ran outside. >> that's jeffrey dunn and he and his fiancee and baby are okay. we're trying to get to the fire battalion chief and get more information. we'll vie to have that for you in the next 30 minutes. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. at 5:33. we continue to follow breaking news in the ebola outbreak. here's what we learned. a u.n. worker who contracted that virus has died. now, in just the past few minutes we learned the 56-year-old man was from sudan and stationed in liberia when he got sick. sent to germany five days ago for treatment and died last night at the hospital. we'll continue to monitor this story and bring you new developments as soon as they become available. meantime a nurse who contracted ebola in dallas is in

stable condition. she received a transfusion from kent brantley. the cdc also says it wouldn't be surprised if another worker at pham's hospital with b comes ill because ebola patients become more contagious as the disease progress progresses. officials back home at delaware county will unveil their plans. matt delucia is live with details about this preparation that is taking place. matt, what is delaware county doing here? >> health officials are getting a number of questions, especially from first responders on how to handle the ebola issue. well, today, a task force made up of ems workers, police, firefighters and the county's three health systems will meet here at the intermediate unit building. as we see a handful of cases popping up around the country and a few others being investigated to come up with a plan and set up procedures that have been established by the cdc and the pennsylvania department

yanda yandamuri says he wants the death penalty. his lawyers say he doesn't really want to stay, just afraid of how he'll be treated in prison. search for eric frein accused of ambushing and killing. frein has been on the run since september 12th. the owners of the taj mahal will ask a bankruptcy judge. its owner trump entertainment has threatened to close the casino in november if it doesn't get labor concessions. earlier a month a judge denied trump's request. 5:36. still ahead, a determined criminal caught on camera. the robbery at a delaware county store that didn't go exactly as planned. bill? clouds are overhead. we're watching for some areas of fog, but that nice wind is blowing the flags atop the aramark building keeping the fog from forming in center city.

some spots of fog, it's thickest right now in the pocono mountains. half a mile visibility there, but really not bad in allentown, quakertown in between these observations, these readings you might see spots of thicker fog, but really not an issue at all for wilmington in philadelphia. we will see sunshine today and that will warm things up. so, fog that is starting things off in some areas north and west will disappear and this afternoon the pocono mountains, 74 degrees and look at the upper 70s and near 80 degrees for reading and right up to 80 for northeast philadelphia and trenton and mt. holly. sunshine for the shore and a nice wind out of the south to help warm temperatures into the upper 70s for vineland and dover and look at the 80s for

wilmington, chester and philadelphia. lots of sunshine today, but there are some storms coming our way. the seven-day forecast when i come back. 20 minutes until 6:00. a few things to watch out for before you hit the roads this morning. >> what are you seeing? >> for most of our drivers fog is the issue. for drivers up in lehigh county and berks county you have to contend with this until the sun comes up. fog is an issue. you might have some wet roadways, as well. also an incident, a fire being put out up in northeast philadelphia and vista street and an alternate around that is frankfurt avenue. crews are advising you to stay away from the area. for drivers onuj=u 95 south, yo in the 40s headed into center city philadelphia. hogging seats and loud cell phone conversations are a few of the annoying issues new jersey transit riders have to put up with and now the public transportation corporation is

reviewing options for courtesy campaign. no specific date is set and it's expected to advocate for passenger advocate. septa started the campaign called, dude, it's rude. septa is trying to tackle annoying habits of riders. leaving trash behind, using foul language and blocking the front aisle. they're using posters to reinforce courtesy while riding buss and trains. swastikas for sale. the symbol long associated with hate causing quite the controversy for one retail giant. we'll explain and tell you what sears has to say about this. and tornado watches. severe weather and a flood threat. strong storms move through southern states and now heading our way. we'll explain more of the damage and, plus, bill will tell us what we can expect here in our area.

♪ well, police arrested more than 50 people in protests last night in ferguson, missouri, and in st. louis. hundreds of people marched on the ferguson police headquarters and stayed for almost four hours. that's how long they say michael brown's body was left lying in the street after the unarmed teen was shot to death by a police officer. yesterday was the last of four days of rallies to express anger about brown's death and last

week's shooting death of a teen by a st. louis police officer. 5:44 now. police are looking for a burglar who left behind a lot of evidence. take a good look here. surveillance footage shows the crime inside and police say the burglar smashed a side window with a screw driver and then tried to kick through a glass counter and you'll see him there. that didn't work too well and he left and came back a few minutes later to take speakers worth $700. the owner says this is the first time that someone has broken in. >> i'll definitely probably get better cameras and i'm considering doing the bars on the windows. >> now, we zoomed in on the suspect's face here on that video. if you can make that out or if you have any information about the crime, police want to hear from you. thieves are after construction tools in montgomery county. breaking into trucks and vans overnight stealing expensive tools. more than two dozen breakins have been reported in the last

two months in upper dublin and sheltonham. police are urging owners to keep records of their tools along with serial numbers. this is probably not what sears shoppers expected to see on the retailers' website. a swastika ring for sale. nbc 10 viewer told us about the ring on sears website. in the description it said it is not for neo-nazi implications but the symbol itself is obviously hurtful and offensive to millions of people. sears has now pulled the listing and said it was put there by one of its outside vendors that they allow to sell things on the sears site. jewish leaders in our area say it's outrageous that sears did not monitor its sellers more closely. >> i was horrified. absolutely horrifyingied to see swastika ring. it's so incensensitivinsensitiv. >> in a statement to nbc 10, sears says the swastika ring violates the guidelines in place for their sellers. they tell us they're contacting the seller to voice their

concern over that company's lack of judgment. about 5:47 now. it's happening later today a decision that could bring business and jobs to the city of camden. the new jersey economic development authority is set to vote on whether. the proposal involves more than $100 million in tax credits over ten years. the defense contractor has its local headquarters in morristown and a technology lab in cherry hill. a groundbreaking ceremony is set for later today in philadelphia. the new baxter trail will connect with the penny pack park trail and add almost two miles for bikers, walkers, joggers to use and it will improve access to the trail. mayor michael nutter will be among those at the groundbreaking at 11:00. a skydiving company in new jersey has filed for bankruptcy. the owner tells "currier post"

they have financial trouble because two of their planes need repairs and can't be used. a skyjumper who was jumping with freefall adventures died when his parachute did not open. the owner plans to stay open during the bankruptcy process. a live look here at beach avenue in cape may. not much traffic out this morning and off the shore of cape may, training exercises for the u.s. navy will actually prevent boaters from using parts of the delaware bay this week. the coast guard will set up three safety enforcement zones in the delaware bay and atlantic ocean. the exercises will include the navy, coast guard and canadian. how to board and investigate suspicious boats. those areas will be off limits to boaters from thursday through october 24th. the national weather service will survey damage to see if it was caused by a tornado. the strong storm system twisting metal off of roofs and knocking

down power poles. one person was killed when a tree fell on her home. the winds even knocked out the 911 system for a while in madison county, alabama. people in tennessee just across the state line also assessing damage from severe weather. unconfirmed reports of tornadoes touching down in western tennessee and more strong winds expected through that region today. this is the same system heading our way for later in the week could produce some rain for us and let's check in with meteorologist bill henley now. it's later tomorrow that we're going to see the showers take place for us, but ahead of those storms we're seeing a big warm up for our area and that's starting this morning. our temperatures are in the 60s. no wind just yet, but the wind will be picking up and we will see a gusty wind help boost temperatures from the 60s to 80 degrees this afternoon. summer-like heat today. we're already nine degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. there are some areas of fog and some of the thickest fog in the pocono mountains, but this is a view of the lodge in woodlock

and no sign of any fog there. most of the area is fog free and areas that are seeing some fog, we'll see it disappear as the temperature climbs. to our west, those are the strong storms that will start moving in later tomorrow and there is a risk of severe weather today for the deep south and can't rule it out in our area for tomorrow. the thunderstorms lining up from kentucky through tennessee and into georgia right now. today, we will stay dry, maybe a little bit misty with some areas of fog north and west to start with, but that does not last. we'll see sunshine take over. and the fog disappears and the wind picks up. upper 70s to near 80 degree and normal high temperature in the upp upper 60s this time of year. another warm one ahead of the storms tomorrow. potentially 80 degrees after a morning low of 65 degrees. late-day storms continue into wednesday night. by thursday morning, we'll see some rain in the area, 73 degrees and late day breaks of sunshine. turning partly sunny for sunday and here comes dry, sunny, but cooler weather for the weekend. just in time for the great

shredder event on saturday. >> very excited about that. >> always nice weather for the shredder. >> let's check on what the weather and the fog is doing for some of the roads. katy zachary has that. >> i'll tell you what it's doing to drivers. drivers know how to drive in the fog and damp conditions out there. we only had one accident into our system this morning and it is already cleared. up in berks county and lehigh, drivers have to take the fog into account as they hit the roadways. a foggy look at 78 right at route 645. fog is not as much of an issue for our other areas and just to show you, drive times are not affected and these are some of our most troublesome spots and green lights all around for that. looking right near the betsy ross bridge and volume is starting to pick up and right now no other issues to report. she is the philly kid who made everyone want to throw like a girl. mo'ne davis is getting another national honor now.

four minutes before 6:00. new jersey has a way of dealing with the growing bear population. once the hunting season starts, hunters who bring in a bear to get weighed will get a cookbook. the state wants to remind people that bears are edible hoping it encourages hunters to kill bears for food. the cookbook includes recipes like grilled bear loin with brown sugar paste. well, no matter where you live in the area, you probably notice gas prices on their way down. gas prices dropped in all three states. according to aaa they're down 4 cents.

in south jersey, prices dropped 3 cents. the average there is $2.99. if you fill up in delaware, the average is $3.06 which is down five cents over the weekend. this is the 16th straight week that gas prices have dropped. a slow global economic growth has hurt the oil market, but good news for refiners and experts say gas prices could drop another 10 cents in the coming weeks. we took a tour from state to state to find out how much gas prices are falling in your your neighborhood. we found gas for $2.87 and drivers are pretty excited about these savings. >> i'm a broke college student and i am commuting every day and really awesome. >> i just put 40 in, which usually would be 60, so it's $20 difference for me that is giving me almost like a full tank. so, i'm loving it. >> in montgomery county, pennsylvania prices aren't below just $3 just yet but much better than we've seen in recent

months. we found people filling up for $3.25. in delaware people are reaping the benefits of lower gas prices. we spotted gas for $3.09 here in wilmington. county by county, starting in new castle where it is launching inspiration spaces is what they're calling it. job centers at public libraries across the state being rebranded to encourage entrepreneurship and provide resources for people looking for jobs. governor jacamar cell will speak at today's launch. now to bucks county where habitat for humanity will host its first pub night. 20% of the proceeds from the event will be donated directly to habitat for humanity and the chance to improve people's lives by providing affordable homes. pub night will be at the other side in doylestown. in chester county now, a women's business expo is happening. the event is hosted by the women's business connection of chester county, more than 100 women business leaders and

>> i'm vai sikahema. storm free according to bill on this tuesday, october 14th. let's get to bill henley with his first alert forecast. good morning, bill. >> we won't see storms but clouds overhead and we have seen some areas of fog as warm air pushes into the area and temperatures are warmer this morning. we are in the 60s right now. some areas more than ten degrees warmer than yesterday. we've seen some low clouds, but, actually, they've cleared in the last hour and a half. this is an improving view from center city from high atop the comcast center. just light fog from reading and two-mile visibility there. we saw dense fog to start with in mt. pocono and was down to a quarter mile visibility and now reporting half a mile visibility and the fog has disappeared at the airport in northeast philadelphia now and visibility at seven miles. look at the temperatures. much warmer. 60s from the pocono mountains to the city to the shore. a nice, warm start and a warm up in store. but clouds overhead and they'll take a little time to clear out and any fog will disappear and
