after the crime. this morning, police are searching for the thief who stole the prosthetic from a veteran, no less. new concern this morning over the spread of ebola. we'll have the latest on the new case on american soil and what's being done in this area to prepare. and a cloudy start as we take a live look outside. it's going to stay overcast for most of the day, but that doesn't mean rain. bill says maybe just a light shower later today. we'll find out exactly where. it's 56 degrees at 5:30. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm chris cato. and no matter how cloudy it is, it's still a sunny day for eagles fans. >> sure is. >> after that demolition of the giants last night. meteorologist bill henley likes the scoreboard. >> it was a great-looking scoreboard! i love that. let's do that every week, shall we? >> mm-hmm. >> cloudy skies today. we saw search yesterday. it was a beautiful day, a perfect sunday, but it's going to be a cloudy columbus day. the clouds have moved in overnight, and we have seen a few showers in center city. that's a dry view right now. look closely, very light scattered showers in the area.

you can see them in eastern maryland and moving through delaware into south jersey. cape may getting a few sprinkles right now. philadelphia saw a couple rain drops, but right now most of the area is just cloudy. and not as chilly as yesterday. it's 57 currently in philadelphia. we'll see the temperatures climb in spite of clouds. we'll see some thinning of the clouds. we'll also see some scattered showers. 56 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00, 59 degrees, then into the 60s this afternoon. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back, but first, katy zachry is watching traffic. good morning, katy. >> hi, bill. unfortunately, for new jersey drivers, we have a development to that crash on the turnpike southbound. so, between two exits, exit 4 and exit 2, they are blocked off while crews investigate this overturned truck that's blocking all lanes. it happened just before 4:00 a.m. right near route 322, which is exit 2. but right now, again, crews have between exit 4 and exit 2 new jersey turnpike southbound off limits to traffic. so, an alternate is you can take

route 73 northbound to i-295 southbound. that will get you around that mess. it is affecting drive times, because right now we're not even totaling any drive time from 322 to the delaware memorial bridge, because again, that stretch is off limits to traffic. but the turnpike in pennsylvania, that's moving fine, as is 476. no issues to report there. and taking a look right now at the platt bridge, where traffic is running free and clear in both directions, the ben, the betsy and the walt look good as well. 5:32 now. and new from overnight, fire officials are trying to figure out what caused a row house to catch fire in west philadelphia. crews were called out to harlan street around 1:30 this morning. everyone inside that homemade it out safely. and also new from overnight, philadelphia police are looking for a woman who stole this man's prosthetic leg. bizarre story. it happened outside lincoln financial field during last night's eagles game. sonny forriest, who sings to fans outside the linc, says the woman took the leg off of his wheelchair and just took off with it. the leg was later found on a

septa train on the broad street line. philadelphia police have picked it up to return it to forriest. 5:33 right now. federal officials have been ordered to move as quickly as possible to investigate the apparent breach of protocol that led to a second ebola case in dallas. a health care worker who has not been identified was wearing protective gear when she treated thomas duncan. duncan died last week at texas health presbyterian hospital. this week, stepped-up ebola screenings will begin at airports in chicago, dulles, newark and atlanta, jfk airport started the screenings over the weekend. nbc 10's jesse gary has been talking with health officials locally. jesse, last hour, you said there are preventive measures people can take to stem the spread of these viruses, but what are they? not ebola. >> reporter: not ebola, no, but you can do simple things like covering your cough. you hear health officials always talk about washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer when you touch common surfaces.

in the case of the flu bug, which health officials say is more of a threat to people than ebola or enterovirus, a vaccine is your best bet. each year, 35,000 people nationwide die due to the flu. registered nurse helen strome says unlike enterovirus or ebola, in the case of the flu, there is a shot that can prevent or greatly reduce your chance of sickness. >> we're avoiding the complications of these viral illnesses, which we can't cure with antibiotics. we have to have our immune system fight these types of germs, and a vaccine boosts your immune system. >> reporter: there are a lot of places you can get a flu shot besides a hospital e.r., like the one behind me. coming up in the next hour, the influx some health care providers are bracing for due to this upcoming flu season and the two viruses that are already on the loose. live in abington, montgomery county, jesse gary, nbc 10 news.

>> nbc 10 will continue to follow the developments in the ebola outbreak on air and online. visit nbc10.com to find answers to your top health questions about ebola. 5:35, and we are on the scene of some breaking news coming in right now to the nbc 10 newsroom. this is a live picture of a fire in bucks county. this is happening at a dance center in bensalem. it started just about an hour ago on the 2200 block of street road. again, this is some type of dance instruction center. fire officials tell us there was heavy fire in the back of the building when they arrived. you can see on the scene there some smoke still billowing up. looks like firefighters have it under control, but we're still working on confirming that. we do know that there have been no injuries reported. there you see the name of the business, bucks county dance center. you see firefighters inside checking out hotspots and doing their job. again, no reported injuries. it being a dance center, we're assuming no one was inside overnight, but still no cause of that fire has been determined. so, we're working on getting

that information to find out exactly what happened there. well, it's 5:35, and it's been just over a month now since the deadly ambush outside a pennsylvania state police barracks. still no sign of eric frein, the suspected killer. >> that's one of the three stories that you can count on nbc 10 to follow for you here today. officers are now hoping that as the temperatures get colder, though they'll get warmer for the next two days, at least, and the leaves start to fall off the trees, they'll gain an advantage over frein. authorities say frein shot and killed corporal bryon dickson and seriously injured trooper alex douglas in the september 12th ambush. the dean of philadelphia sportscasters, bill campbell, will be remembered at a funeral mass this morning. family and friends attended a viewing yesterday in collingswo collingswood. today's funeral starts at 11:00 at christ the king church in haddonfield. campbell died last monday at age 91. he was behind the mike when wilt chamberlain scored 100 and broadcast the eagles' 1960 championship. today, a new panel of mediators begin another round of negotiations between septa and

5:45 right now. we continue to follow breaking news out of bucks county, the scene of a fire. we're live there. we're told one firefighter was hurt battling this fire at the bucks county dance fire in bensalem on street road. again, this is a live picture. fire officials tell nbc 10 there was heavy fire in the back of the building. bensalem fire officials say the firefighter who was hurt has minor injuries. no one else was hurt. coming up, katy zachry will get you around that fire scene if you're headed out in that direction this morning. more unrest this time in st. louis. 17 protesters arrested in a parking lot there last night at a convenient store. they were protesting the death of 18-year-old vonderrick myers. that's a teenager who was shot and killed last week by an off-duty st. louis police officer who was working a security job. according to police, myers shot first, but his parents say he was unarmed. today, clergy members will participate in demonstrations in

other communities in the st. louis area. 5:45 now, and today alaska will begin accepting marriage applications from gay couples. this comes after a federal court judge ruled sunday that the state's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. five gay couples had sued to overturn that ban. the state of alaska intends to appeal the ruling. with a second now confirmed case of ebola diagnosed in the united states, the philadelphia department of public health is taking steps to prepare for a possible case in our area. it is using enhanced surveillance to more efficiently identify potential cases of the deadly virus. the department is providing guidance and tools to health care providers, also collaborating with airport officials, the cdc and customs to make sure all ill travelers are reported and it's providing the public with up-to-date information. and there's new concern this morning over the spread of ebola, now that the centers for disease control has confirmed that one of the health care workers who treated thomas duncan in dallas has contracted that disease. nbc 10 national correspondent jay gray has more from dallas.

>> reporter: this morning, a member of the specialized team that treated the first patient diagnosed with ebola in the united states is inside the isolation unit at texas health presbyterian hospital, now fighting the deadly disease herself. >> it's deeply concerning that this infection occurred. >> reporter: a review from the centers for disease control cites a breach in hospital protocol for her infection. and overnight, the agency stepped up its presence in dallas to prevent a "further spread" of the deadly virus. officials will not release the name of the infected health care worker but do say the woman had extensive contact with thomas eric duncan before his death, including when he was placed on dialysis and a ventilator as his condition got worse and he became more infectious. police have been stationed outside the woman's taped-off apartment along with hazmat teams that will begin disposal and decontamination work later this morning. jay gray, nbc news, dallas.

5:47 right now. emergency crews were called into an indianapolis zoo over the weekend. >> that's after a ride got stuck, trapping visitors in the air. here's a look at some of that video there. passengers stuck on the sky ride. it was heading through the zoo's international orangutan center when the ride stopped working. six people had to be rescued by firefighters about 35 feet in the air, while others evacuated using a ladder. no one was hurt. it is a showdown in midflight over massachusetts captured on video. watch as a hawk attacks a drone. the guy operating the drone noticed the redtail hawk circling, so he tried lowering the drone, but that didn't stop the hawk from knocking it out of the sky. the drone's owner said it appeared that the hawk is fine. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> well, our territory's been taken over by some clouds this morning. we're looking at cloudy skies.

no rain in center city, but we have seen a few showers. clouds keeping us in the upper 50s in the city, 57 degrees right now. just a little bit of a breeze. and we have seen some showers. you can see a little bit of dampness on beach avenue. most of the showers have passed to the north of beach avenue. plenty of clouds, though, for the entire area. we're already seeing some thinning of the clouds north and west, so we'll see some sunshine and warmer temperatures this afternoon, but keep an eye out for a few sprinkles here and there. 52 right now in pottstown, 57 degrees at philadelphia international, low 50s for much of new jersey. glenside is down to 53 degrees. collegeville now 51, while it is 52 at the airport in pottstown, gilbertsville and upper providence, 51 degrees right now. we'll watch for a few sprinkles. showers to the south will be pushing east and move right on offshore. so, lots of clouds, not too many showers during the day today and temperatures back in the 60s this afternoon with light southeasterly winds 9 miles an hour. but tomorrow we're talking 80

degrees, summerlike temperatures for tuesday and again on wednesday! though later on wednesday, the clouds will be building and there's a chance of some showers wednesday night. the threat will increase for thursday, especially in the morning, could even see some thunderstorms come through the area to start with. then thursday afternoon, 74 degrees after morning low temperatures in the 60s. we will see partly sunny skies on friday and then sunshine this weekend, but the temperatures come down closer to normal on saturday. 60s for sunday. >> sunny skies for the great shredder event on saturday. >> bill always keeps it nice for shredder. >> looking forward to that. if you're heading out on the roads right now, you should know about an accident on the new jersey turnpike we've been following for quite some time. >> katy zachry is letting us know the latest on that now. katy? >> and there's another one on top of this one behind me i'll get to in a minute. right now, you can see that drivers are stopped on the new jersey turnpike southbound approaching exit 2, which is route 322. basically, crews have closed off the roadway between exits 4 and

exits 2 because of an overturned truck that's blocking all lanes, and this is the result of it. if we go to my computer, i can show you the alternate. basically, you're being detoured off of new jersey turnpike southbound right at exit 4. you're going to take 73 north to i-295 south, and that will get you around this mess. it's been out there for quite a while, and we're told they're conducting an investigation, which is why they closed the roadways. moving on, there is, unfortunately, another accident for new jersey drivers on the garden state parkway southbound right past route 573, which is the pomona exit, exit 48. one lane is blocked at this time. doesn't look like it's significantly affecting traffic there. and moving into bucks county for pennsylvania drivers, there's a fire right at street road and knights road. you're advised to avoid that area. well, eagles fans are waking up on cloud nine this morning after the birds' total domination of the new york giants last night on "sunday night football." nbc 10's vai sikahema has the highlights from lincoln financial field where the eagles

broke a very long streak. >> reporter: this was a beatdown of, pardon the expression or the pun, of gigantic proportion. the eagles shutting out the giants 27-0. think about this. in the entire 14 years that andy reid was head coach of the philadelphia eagles, never get a shutout. hasn't been done in 18 years. let's show you the highlights. this thing started off from the get-go as a beatdown. first quarter, nick foles looking to the corner of the end zone. perfect throw, a diving catch -- or is that the 15-yard touchdown? eagles go 81 yards in ten plays, they've get a 10-0 lead. second quarter, eagles get lesean mccoy back on track. the burst to the outside picks up the first down. he had 85 yards rushing in the first half. that's the most all season for him. later on the drive, foles rolling out and finds james casey wide open for a 26-yard touchdown. eagles with a 17-0 lead at that point. and how about the special teams? were they special.

at this time every morning, we know there is news in every neighborhood, so we try to take you county by county for a sampling of what's going on. >> we start in atlantic county, where a developer has announced his plans to buy the pier shops at caesars in atlantic city. philadelphia developer bart blatstein confirmed the sale but would not confirm the price. the 300,000-square-foot mall cost $200 million to develop and landed in financial trouble just after opening in 2006. it was sold at foreclosure auction in 2011 to an investment group. in chester county, a west chester community has taken another step to protect itself from what neighbors call an invasion by sonoco. actually, this is west goshen. we should say, sonoco logistics wants to build a pumping station in west goshen to pump propane and eighteenthane through a pipeline planned for the area near the water towers there.

township supervisors voted last week to allow the township to regulate all utilities. until now, public utilities did not have to abide by local zoning as long as they could prove their product was necessary to serve the public. now to bucks county, where a food pantry is working through a hunger pain. officials with jesus focus food pantry in southampton say the past three months have seen an increase in the number of people showing up for bags of free groceries and now the shelves are nearly bare. a restock order from the county opportunity council won't arrive for another two weeks, so officials used social media to put out a plea for help. >> be able to go another couple days. we never get too excited, because i can never guarantee that we'll go a week. that's why i put out the plea, saying two weeks i'll be fine, but what do i do for two weeks? >> and almost immediately, members of the community came forward with donations. the pantry received a supply of groceries, but again, says it won't last for very long. and in new castle county,
