let's hope that gets out of here quickly. good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. >> i'm tracy davidson. let's find out about the weather for today with meteorologist bill henley. >> good morning, tracy. we see fog thicken up in just the last few minutes. coatesville back down to zero visibility. meantime in center city, no fog at all. it's coatesville, mt. pocono, lancaster seeing fog right now. mt. pocono down to a quarter mile. it improved there. there are some areas of thick fog and some light fog in new jersey. wrightstown has 2.5 mile visibility. temperatures for most of the area in the 50s. pottstown, northeast philadelphia, trenton at 57 degrees. 56 in wilmington. we'll see fog to start with in some areas. not everybody will get it. the fog clears and the clouds will break for enough sunshine to warm us into the upper 70s by lunchtime. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back to show you which areas will get more sun than others. first, jillian has traffic. >> good morning. still no accidents.

i'm following some of that overnight construction including a repaving project that we have happening on the boulevard southbound between comly and levick. a live look at route 202 near the pennsylvania turnpike just outside of the mall that area so you can see 202 is very quiet and so is 76 right now. drive times looking good across the board. 76 westbound from the vine to the blue route will take you 14 minutes. 13 minutes southbound from woodhaven to the vine and blue route is 18 minutes from 95 to 76. we're following this story this morning on the ebola outbreak. a cameraman for nbc news medical editor dr. nancy sneiderman is the latest american to be stricken with the ebola virus. he's being flown back to the u.s. to a hospital equipped to handle ebola.

liberian officials plan to prosecute thomas duncan because the liberian government says duncan on his airport questionnaire said he did not have any contact with anyone infected with ebola. he's now recovering at a hospital in texas. everyone is concerned about flying given what happened with duncan there. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at philadelphia international airport. this outbreak in west africa is creating fear globally that's impacting the airline industry, right? >> reporter: that's right. stocks for the three largest carriers in the u.s. all down yesterday and analysts say that downward movement is sparked by the ebola virus. >> there's no indication that it can be spread through an airline ventilation system, stocks did drop yesterday on exactly those concerns. >> reporter: analysts don't believe it will be a long-term downward trend and health experts say international flyers are screened before boarding a plane even if you are seated near an infected passenger, it's

not an airborne virus and is transmitted through bodily fluids or cuts and sores on your skin or your eyes and mouth. in the next half hour, what doctors are doing to prevent an outbreak and at 6:00, we'll try to get reaction from international flyers at the airport. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. back to that freelance cameraman that tested positive for ebola. >> the 33 year old is now the fourth american diagnosed with the deadly disease. he was hired by nbc news on tuesday but had been working in liberia for the past three years. he started experiencing symptoms yesterday. he reported feeling tired and achy. had a slight fever. among the four-member nbc news crew is dr. nancy sneiderman. here's what she said during a phone interview from quarantine in africa. >> we'll be taking our temperatures twice a day and checking in with each other and if any one of us suddenly spikes a fever or gets symptoms, we'll

report ourselves to the authorities. we are taking it seriously but i want people to know that we are well. >> coming up this morning on the "today" show, dr. nancy sneiderman will be live from liberia before her team heads home with an update on that infected cameraman. military personnel from this area are helping fight the ebola outbreak in west africa. they're taking part in cargo missions to send medics and medical aid to liberia. they outlined a plan to deliver and set up medical stations to deal with that outbreak. >> not at this point thinking we'll be doing any quarantine but in the same respect we're going to do everything that we need to in order to ensure the safety of our personnel. >> the 87th aerospace medical squad said there's a careful screening process for u.s. troops sent to west africa. a fire at two row homes caused heavy damage to the upper floors. the fire broke out around 1:45

this morning on west oxford street in north philly. it started as a cooking fire. a mother and son living in one of the homes got out safely. nobody was hurt and this morning the red cross is helping 15 people from three families who were affected. five minutes after 5:00 now. three people were shot. sky force 10 flying over that scene in the kensington section of philadelphia last night. the gunfire broke out around 10:00 at lee and clearfield streets. police tell us a husband and wife and another man were all wounded in that shooting. they're all in stable condition. so far no arrests more any word on the motive for the shooting. philadelphia police want to know if a robbery suspected they arrested last night is responsible for other holdups. >> anything to say? >> i didn't do it. >> we don't know the guy's name. he's accused of robbing the 7-eleven. investigators are trying to determine if he's also

responsible for other recent robberies of 7-elevens in the city. philadelphia police ask for your help in finding a man that attacked and robbed a woman near a popular recreational trail. police released this sketch. he's described as 6 feet tall. a woman was walking along a trail in chestnut hill last friday. the man demanded money and forced her to the ground and choked her and demanded sex. the woman got away. the attack happened at 5:00 in the afternoon when a lot of people are in the park. >> normally i walk in the trails but since this happened, i want to be alert. >> again, police are asking anyone with information to contact them. the pennsylvania state trooper who was killed at a montgomery county shooting range this week will be honored this weekend. officials have confirmed that he was shot by another trooper as we told you earlier this week. they say it happened during a training exercise at that facility on tuesday. he was 26 years old. he had been a member of the

state police since june 2012 and was a graduate of temple and was engaged to be married. a life celebration will be held sunday night at givnish funeral home. a funeral mass the next morning at christ the king church also in northeast philadelphia. it's now been three weeks since a pennsylvania straigate trooper was shot to death. the impact of the search for the killer is reaching far beyond the five-mile radius where they are looking for suspect eric frein. hunting is banned in seven townships. now hiking, fishing and camping in state forest near the search area have been added to that ban. popular resorts in the poconos are feeling the impact. residents say the constant police presence and restrictions are wearing them down. the search continues for the fugitive, eric frein, accused of ambushing and killing brian

dixon and wounding trooper alex douglas. >> believe they need to do what is safe for the public in the area. especially now that they are finding it trip bombs and everything else. >> searchers found two fully functional pipe bombs monday at a campsite believed to have been used by frein. 5:08 now. an update on the atlantic city casino crisis. today a judge will rule on whether the bankrupt taj mahal can get out of paying pensions to union workers. if the union doesn't make compromises, the taj will shut down next month. listen to this. executives of the recently sold revel casino are getting some big bonuses. the judge handling revel's bankruptcy case approved a plan paying out close to $2 million to key managers for selling that resort. the court records are sealed so we don't know exactly who will get those bonuses.

getting a clear view of boathouse row. it's domestic violence awareness month. lit up in you wepurple this mor. we're seeing areas of fog in typical places mainly north and west where the thickest fog is. won't last all day. we'll see partly to mostly sunny skies today. a nice one today. we're on track for showers to start off the weekend which will lead to some much chillier weather for sunday. right now, no fog for reading, allentown and quakertown. it's coatesville that has zero visibility once again and back down to quarter mile visibility in lancaster. it's improved in mt. pocono, it's just a little bit of light fog reported in new jersey. wrightstown has 2.5-mile visibility. some areas of fog. we'll see sunshine to clear out the fog and warm temperatures up. 70s for reading, allentown and quakertown today. partly to mostly cloudy skies with low 70s for doylestown and

it's 5:14. a clear view of the ben franklin bridge this morning. it's 52 degrees in philadelphia. chillier across parts of the area and some thick fog in places. meteorologist bill henley says the fog with zero visibility right now in coatesville area. be prepared for that as you head out the door this morning. president obama wants an independent panel to help fix what's wrong with agency responsible for his safety, the secret service. the president tapped joe clancy to lead the agency temporarily. julia pierson stepped down after a series of security breaches and pressure from congress.

the white house says president obama will not name a permanent director until december 15th at the earliest. new jersey's now acting governor is waking up in the hospital after getting hurt in a bike accident. she was riding her bike yesterday when she stopped short to avoid a car and fell. taken to the hospital with a broken elbow and broken wrist. kept overnight for observation. she is acting governor right now because governor chris christie is out of town. the head of the faa says crews are working around the clock to replace equipment damaged by a fire at an airport in chicago. he will visit the control center there today. at the same time there's a push to upgrade the nation's air traffic control system to help improve travel not only in this area but across the country. the u.s. travel association wants to transfer air traffic control from a ground operation to a new satellite based system that is similar to the gps in your car. experts say this could help reduce delays and cancellations like the ones caused by last week's fire in chicago.

some people say switching to satellite would help airports including philadelphia international operate more efficiently both during problems and just on a day-to-day basis. >> 2013 almost a quarter of all flights were either delayed or canceled coming out of philadelphia and those flight delays and cancellations had a huge impact throughout the entire system because philadelphia is a critical hub. >> the head of the federal aviation administration ordered a review of security and contingency planes in the wake of the fire intentionally set by a contractor. 50 years fighting poverty. this weekend a celebrity chef will honor a bucks county organization celebrating a major milestone. chef jose garces is hosting a dinner party for supporters of the bucks county opportunity council at his private farm. katy zachry joins us live to explain what this organization does. it's actually pretty impressive. tell us more. >> reporter: it is. this partnership with jose

garces is really a partnership to pull people out of poverty. it's one the bucks county opportunity council has done for the last several decades and it's what jose garces strives to do with his own charitable foundation. he'll host 150 people on saturday at his farm. he'll prepare a special meal to thank supporters of the bucks county opportunity council. it has helped nearly half a million low income families pulling many of them out of poverty. the group offers personal coaches for education and job performance and helps with housing, transportation and nutrition. terry shea is one of those people. >> i don't know how i'm going to do this. i'm going to do this. and it was amazing. >> reporter: the woman you just heard from will speak alongside jose garces at the event on saturday. it's interesting to note that every dollar that is invested in the bucks county opportunity

council saves bucks county $4 in welfare subsidies. katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >> congratulations to them on many years of lots of good work. 5:18. let's check your ride to work or wherever you're headed this morning. >> jillian mele is always watching the cameras and data she has to let us know of delays out there. >> good morning. so far no delays. we do have our first accident of the morning. it happens to be on the boulevard northbound side right at fifth street on the outer drive. a vehicle hit a pole in that area. watch for lane restrictions there. route 1 at business route 1. everything is quiet. a few drivers but no delays to report the entire length for drivers in bucks county. heading to 422 eastbound side as we approach route 29. you can see average speeds in the mid 50s. we're at 29 still at 55 miles an hour. and those average speeds continue all of the way down to route 202. so far on 422 things are quiet. 202 we had overnight construction in both directions near route 29.

that's since cleared. as far as other majors go, especially in delaware and new jersey, we're not reporting any accidents there for drivers in delaware 495, 95, route 113 all clear right now. dry conditions in cape may which will see sunshine to start it off with brilliant sunshine yesterday. no wind here at nbc 10. much of the area seeing some very light wind. more breaks in the clouds there are some areas of fog but not at philadelphia international. humidity is 80%. higher north and west with temperatures coming down a bit more. satellite shows some clouds in the area. it's not complete cloud cover like we started off with yesterday. that's to come. you can see it moving from the west. that's a cold front that's going to produce showers and possibly some thunderstorms for our area. illinois, indiana area right now. you can see heavier downpours are to the south. huntsville reporting severe

thunderstorm in the area. we could see thunderstorms. i'm not expecting severe weather. you will see the clouds start moving in tonight. this is 10:00 tonight. showers come in during the early morning hours on saturday. 3:00 in the morning rain will fall in philadelphia. areas north and west and heavy downpours at 8:00 in the morning are possible. it will clear out quickly by early afternoon. we'll see drying conditions and temperatures in the 70s. forecast for today calling for sunshine. some clouds. and 69 degrees at lunchtime. up to 73 degrees later this afternoon. the seven-day forecast has the numbers coming down over the weekend. 70 degrees saturday afternoon. and then a cooldown after showers move through and wind picks up and sunshine will be bright on sunday. just 64 after morning low of 47 degrees. another chilly morning on monday but monday afternoon sunny skies. warming to 71 degrees. a chance of showers returns for tuesday and wednesday.

we'll be in the 70s during the afternoon and sunshine thursday. it's about 5:20 now. the holiest holiday for jews begins at sundown. a day of atonement is intense prayer and fasting. jews confess their sins to god and ask forgiveness. yom kippur concludes high holy days. this morning a lieutenant with the philadelphia fire department is under arrest. he's charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman and it's how he allegedly lured that woman that makes this crime even more disturbing. the jpmorgan chase security breach. we have new information on how many customers were affected. the experts at cnbc will break it all down for us.

jpmorgan also says it hasn't seen any unusual fraud activity. gm is recalling more than 117,000 vehicles from 2013 and 2014 model years because of the risk they could stall. metal slivers in the control panel could cause an electrical short involving the tahoe, suburban, traverse and silverado. the gmc yukon and a lot of other models. pay attention if yuours is affected. we're watching for some areas of fog. not seeing it in the city or along boathouse row. that's a live look from the bank building. 62 degrees at 5:26. jillian mele has traffic this morning on a friday morning. >> good morning.
