mostly clear skies over the philadelphia skyline. heading into the rest of your morning by 8:00 a.m., 69 degrees. by 10:00, 70 degrees and cool. less humid than yesterday. temperatures will stay down. they'll drop even more as we head into your saturday. plus, i'm tracking our chances for weekend rain. i'll go over details in my full forecast. for now, let's check in with jillian for a closer look at traffic. >> let's start off in new jersey. 42 freeway volume starting to build on the northbound side as drivers pass that long-term construction zone and head out to creek road and to bridges. drive times on the northbound side about 14 minutes as you can see between atlantic city expressway and the walt whitman bridge. this is 76. live look near city avenue. no delays to report on schuylkill expressway. this portion of 76 will likely be jammed. same situation on 95.

average speeds southbound mid 50s stretching into center city, philadelphia, 53 miles per hour is average speed. no delays to report on 95. we've not had a single accident on majors all morning long and it continues to be that way in pennsylvania, delaware and new jersey. >> we're following breaking news in the oscar pistorius murder trial right now. court is on break as the judge decides if pistorius should remain free until sentencing following his conviction for what they call culpable homicide. chris cato is live with developments. >> court is expected to readjourn in a few minutes. we'll monitor when that happens and bring it to you. if you are just waking up and tuning in. the big headline this morning, oscar pistorius, the former olympic sprinter hero of south africa has been found guilty of culpable homicide. that's the equivalent of manslaughter in the u.s. culpable homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp.

pistorius showed no emotion as that verdict was read which was opposite of yesterday when he broke down sobbing when the judge found him not guilty of the greater charge of murder. he'll face up to 15 years in prison on the homicide conviction. he shot and killed steenkamp on valentine's day in 2013. he fired through a locked door thinking it was an intruder in there. the judge believes his story and that he did not know it was steenkamp inside the bathroom but he should have taken some other action rather than firing four shots through the door. now, at this point no sentencing date has been set. here's what we're waiting on this morning once court comes back, the judge will announce whether or not pistorius will remain free on bail until his sentencing and in other words he could walk out of the courtroom today and not have to go to jail until his sentencing. no date has been set for his sentencing. we're watching that. we'll let you know when the judge makes that decision.

new from overnight, a convicted killer that escaped from a prison in northwestern ohio has been captured. here's a look at the state prison in lima, ohio, 80 miles from toledo. a search of a neighborhood near the prison led to the capture. authorities are giving few details this morning. the 19-year-old t.j. lane escaped from the prison yesterday. officials have not said exactly how he did it. in 2012, lane shot to death three students inside a high school near cleveland. in court lane said he didn't know why he did it. he was given three life sentences. 6:03. today a jury will pick up where it left off as they resume deliberations in the christina regusters trial. nbc 10's jesse gary is live covering the story for us. >> reporter: good morning to you. a new twist from the defense. they say christina regusters is actually the savior and not the savage criminal who sexually

asu assaulted a child. that 5-year-old girl was found in an upper darby park a day after she was taken from her west philadelphia kindergarten class last year. defense attorney fred harrison says the 21-year-old defendant was at homesi sick with a cold d could not be the person seen walking the child out of the school building. prosecutors contend that her dna was found on a t-shirt the child was wearing. there are six separate charges against the defendant. the jury must reach unanimous verdict on all six charges. live outside the criminal justice center in center city, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. happening today, a man who beat up and robbed a temple university professor on campus is scheduled to be sentenced. darryl moon pleaded guilty to the crime earlier this month. last october the 81-year-old professor was assaulted in his office on campus and moon roughed up the man, held a knife to his throat and stole his

wallet. new this morning in the ray rice scandal, espn is reporting that rice told nfl commissioner roger goodell back in april that he punched his then fiance in the face in that elevator and espn has four sources to confirm that. this contradicts goodell's statement that rice was ambiguous about what happened on the elevator. the league said the findings of their investigation will be made public. some female football fans wore support for ray rice before last night's ravens game in baltimore. several women were spotted wearing number 27 jersey. the ravens set up an exchange program for those who no longer support their running back. a driver was injured when his car hit a building. nbc 10 on the scene along belmont avenue. the car got wedged between a building and another car. we're trying to find out more

about the driver who police told us suffered a head injury. also happening today, the new castle county police department will promote nine officers and that includes six sergeants, a lieutenant, a captain and a major. today's ceremony takes place at 1:00 this afternoon. good morning. temperatures as we head into the rest of your friday staying below average for us into the 70s. we'll drop down into the high 60s tomorrow. it's going to be a cooler start to your weekend. tracking the chances of weekend rain pushing into saturday but things clear up nicely heading into sunday. right now throughout our region we're seeing temperatures in the poconos low 50s. 60 degrees in allentown. 56 in pottstown. 58 in reading. 64 in philadelphia. 63 currently if you wake up in trenton this morning. 61 in mount holly. closer to the shore high 60s.

66 in dover. we're seeing quite a range but not as bad as what we're seeing way back to the west. look at denver. only 34 degrees right now. we're at 30 degrees in billings. our first taste of fall is starting to settle in and it's going to feel more like fall as we head into the rest of today and definitely into tomorrow. our wind speeds out of the north right now bringing drier air to us. we are seeing breezy conditions in philadelphia. wind speeds sustained at 14 miles an hour. 13 in dover. 12 in wildwood. quiet on satellite radar this morning. we'll see high pressure rebuilding in heading into sunday. as far as tomorrow is concerned, our clouds will increase throughout your morning hours. by 3:00 p.m. heading into afternoon and early evening a chance of showers on and off throughout the philadelphia area. allentown, reading, poconos, rain at this time. closer to 5:00. this is light rainfall. even as we head into your evening hours closer to 10:00 p.m., that's when most of the

>> at 6:13. we continue to follow breaking news out of south africa where oscar pistorius has been found guilty of culpable homicide in the death of reeva steenkamp. court is on break. the judge is deciding on whether to pistorius will remain free until his sentencing. that's yet to be scheduled. culpable homicide carries a maximum of 15 years in prison. the judge will decide that. happening today, a woman faces arraignment in massachusetts after police found the bodies of three infants in a filthy home. police say the charges are connected to conditions in the house, which was infested with rats and filled with trash. four other children were removed from the home last month and place d in protective care.

autopsies are being performed to determine how and when the four infants died. grief counselors will be on hand after a teacher was found dead inside a hotel. the woman was found in a bathroom inside the holiday inn. she had multiple stab wounds to her arm and body. her death is being investigated as a suicide. she taught sixth grade at key elementary. plans will move forward to build a cell phone tower on the site of a cemetery in wilming n wilmington. the tower will be disguised as a bell tower at all saints cemetery. opponents said the new tower doesn't fit in with the surrounding community. >> i think our biggest concern is the proximity of this tower. it's going to be 14 stories tall. >> officials voted in favor of the tower which the cellular company said will fill a gap in

service in that area. 6:15 now. you'll see a lot of pink this weekend. an annual event to raise awareness about the fight for breast cancer winds through several towns. the susan g. komen three-day walk is about to begin. walkers are gathering. the journey begins a short time from now. monique braxton is with them. >> reporter: in 45 minutes, the opening ceremony will kickoff and right now i have a team of walkers with me. they are one of about 1,300 people participating. we have the spokesperson for this group decked out in pink. paint the town in pink is the weekend theme, right? >> it really is. we're here to raise awareness for breast cancer, for research, raising funds. sorry. we've come in from all over. we have walkers from arizona, ohio, delaware. we have participated in this walk as a team for ten years. we're celebrating our ten-year

anniversary as a team. we just want to keep going. we want to end this disease. >> you are inspired by someone who since passed away. >> the founder of our team, linda, was a breast cancer survivor founded our team and she passed away so we all walk in her memory. >> reporter: the next couple of days you'll walk 20 miles per day. how do you even begin to train for that? >> one step at a time. you get up every day and you walk and you walk and you walk. you park your car far away and you walk. you get all of your steps in. we all compete with it. we get competitive over how many steps we can get in every day with each other training for this event. >> reporter: thanks for talking to us. we appreciate it. what we've been told is more than 40,000 men and women die from breast cancer every year and the whole purpose of this three-day event is to stop that we'll be here when the opening ceremonies get under way and have that for you coming up in the next half hour. live for now in willow grove,

drivers approach gerard. westbound looking good near city avenue. we're seeing more drivers and more volume on the road right now. drive times still 15 minutes on 76 between blue route and the vine. taking mass transit, everything is on or close to schedule right now. we're following breaking news out of south africa this morning in the oscar pistorius trial. guilty on the charge that amounts to manslaughter in the u.s. nbc 10's chris cato joins live from the digital operations center. we don't know how long pistorius will spend in prison, right? >> that's because there's no sentencing that's been set for pistorius. the maximum sentence he could receive for culpable homicide is 15 years. no minimum sentence. it's up to the judge. he could spend no jail time in prison. we're waiting on that. another thing we're waiting on as we take a live look at the courthouse in pretoria, south africa, is the judge called a recess an hour ago as she

decides whether pistorius will remain free on bail until his sentencing. the courtroom has just reassembled. pistorius is back in court now for that. we're monitoring that for you. back to the guilty verdict though on culpable homicide charge that came down around 4:30 our time. pistorius was unemotional in court as that guilty verdict was read, which is quite the opposite of yesterday when he broke down sobbing when the judge found him not guilty of the greater charge of murder. pistorius shot to death his girlfriend reeva steenkamp and says he fired his gun through a locked bedroom door because he thought an intruder was inside. yesterday in reading her verdict, the judge said she believes that story. she believes he truly didn't think reeva was inside that bathroom but pistorius should have taken some other action and done something else other than shooting four times at the door. he's guilty of culpable homicide, which is the equivalent of manslaughter in the u.s. and now we wait to see if he'll remain free on bail until sentencing. no date has been set for his

sentencing facing a maximum of 15 years in prison. live our digital operations center, chris cato, nbc 10 news. from our delaware bureau, delaware would be the next state to be afflicted with enterovirus. a dozen kids are in the hospital possibly with that illness. here's a look at the six states with confirmed cases. kentucky, illinois, missouri, iowa, kansas and colorado. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in wilmington now with status of sick children there. >> reporter: we know that the children here are from delaware who have exhibited symptoms of ente enterovirus 68 rone is from ken county and one is from sussex and have children here are in intensive care. their labs were sent to the center for disease control and prevention which is testing for enterovirus. the results are expected back in a week. the virus resembles the common

cold at first but then becomes a serious respiratory illness and can hospitalize kids as we have seen across the country. those with growthi ibreathing p are at higher risk. we talked to a pediatrician yesterday and is telling her asthma patients to start their inhaler at the first sign of a cold and to call their doctor. >> there's no vaccine for enterovirus d68 and no treatment so prevention is key. talk to children about frequent hand washing. washing hands for 20 seconds so they should wash hands until they sing the whole happy birthday song. >> there are no confirmed cases in our area yet, they are testing 12 children from here in delaware for fear they do have enterovirus 68 and those test results are expected back in seven to ten days.

katy zachry, nbc 10 news. today the jury in the christina regusters trial will resume deliberations. regusters is charged with kidnapping a 5-year-old girl from her philadelphia school and sexually assaulting her. six counts against regusters and jurors must consider each count and reach unanimous count on each separately. legal experts say there's no way to know how long the panel will go before they reach a verdict on all counts. stopping isis. that's the promise is secretary of state john kerry got from some key arab allies. kerry got support of ten arab nations during a meeting in saudi arabia yesterday. the new coalition pledges to stop the flow of fighters and funding to this islamic state militants. they agree to join the u.s. led military campaign. >> from our south jersey bureau, a leading state lawmaker will visit a bridge in need of repair. steve sweeney will tour the summer's point bridge in atlantic county. he'll be calling attention to what's been called new jersey's crumbling infrastructure.

that bridge was built in 1967. in the philadelphia school budget crisis, a rally will be held today at 4:00 outside of the center city office of pennsylvania governor tom corbit. the demonstration will cap off a week of rallies like this one that was held on tuesday. organizers say it's a protest against the governor's education cuts. the rally will also reach out to corbit with an invitation for him to meet with the demonstrators. good morning. hope you start making plans for your friday night. we're going to see nice and comfortable conditions. our humidity will go down a bit. we also track a chance of weekend rain and then cooling down even more as we head into the start of your weekend. i'll let you know details on that. for philadelphia right now, we're at 64 degrees. our humidity is at 65%. wind speeds out of the north so drier air coming into our region. breezy start to the morning. it's going to feel chilly if you

rainfall confined to the shore and then even more clearing after that. giving way to plenty of sunshine heading into your sunday. so for today, less humid. a mix of sun and clouds. 76. tomorrow, cooler with a chance of rain. heading into sunday, plenty of sunshine but still cool. below average. 74 degrees. 78 heading into monday and into next week we stay in the mid 70s. >> time to get another check on traffic as parents head out the door to get kids to school and/or work. >> we've been accident free all morning. where is this accident? >> we have a serious accident now happening for drivers in new jersey. it's in vineland on route 55 southbound side at route 674 exit for north vineland exit 35. you can take 553 if you need to get around that. the southbound lanes of 55 are blocked off in that area. you can expect to see a delay as you approach that closure. leave yourself extra time if you're heading out in that direction. aside from that, the rest of the majors in new jersey are problem free.

we're following breaking news out of south africa where oscar pistorius has been found guilty of culpable homicide in the shooting death of reeva steenkamp. right now the court is readjourning. a judge is deciding whether pistorius will be able to remain free until his sentencing. that has to be scheduled. culpable homicide, which is like manslaughter in this country, carries a maximum of 15 years in prison. the judge will decide on that sentence. all inmates that escaped from a prison in ohio overnight has been caught. a third inmate was caught a few minutes ago. officers have not said how they escaped or how they were recaptured. one of those inmates who escaped was 19-year-old t.j. lane, the suspect who killed three students in a school in 2012. in court lane said he didn't know why he did it.

he was given three life sentences so again three inmates escaped in ohio overnight. all three are back in prison. thousands of people may have to pay back their share of hurricane sandy disaster aid. fema is auditing thousands of households that may have received improper payments. damaged properties were vacation houses or rental properties and were ineligible. a man accused of sexually assaulting children at a day care run by his wife. dennis alston is charged with assaulting two kids. alston's wife operated the day care and police were called after two children under 12 told their parents alston forced them to perform sex acts. nbc 10 spoke with the suspect's sister. >> has he ever been in trouble before? >> no.

it is just about 7:00. 64 degrees out there. beautiful friday morning. it's going to be a beautiful friday. brittney shipp will be along with the first alert forecast in just a moment. in delaware, nearly half a dozen children are in intensive care with what could be enterovirus 68. the virus starts out like a common cold is sweeping across the country and that's caused many parents to panic. katy zachry is live in wilmington with more details. >> reporter: the kids here in delaware believed to be infected

range in age from under a year to 14 years old. all of them are in the hospital. ten of them are in a hospital here in new castle county. one in kent county. the other in sussex county and half kids are in intensive care unit. their labs have been sent to the centers for disease control and prevention. the agency officially testing for enterovirus 68. the virus is sweeping across the country. it resembles the common cold at first but then becomes a serious respiratory illness and can hospitalize kids as it has. those with breathing problems or allergies at higher risk. no vaccine and no cure for enterovirus. there are no confirmed cases in pennsylvania, new jersey or delaware yet, as we said tests have been sent to the centers for disease control from 12 kids in delaware who are hospitali hospitalized. prevention tips are typical for preventing the common cold. if you are sick, stay home from school. don't send your kids to day care. wash your hands and wash surfaces that are commonly used.

reporting live in wilmington, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. the jury will resume deliberations today in the trial of christina regusters accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a little girl. jesse gary is live in center city. what can we expect today? >> reporter: experts say it's difficult to say how long the jury will continue deliberations. they put in five hours yesterday and now today the second day. let's look at our video. the trial of christina regusters, a former day care worker who was charged with walking into a philadelphia school and walking out with someone else's child. and then sexually abusing that child. the defense says the defendant is actually the savior and she rescued the child and left her in that park in upper darby. prosecutors say she is the sole culprit here. her dna was on a shirt that was found on the child when the child was found inside the park last year. again, day two begins today and the jury must reach a unanimous verdict on all six charges.

live outside the criminal justice center in center city, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. this morning an annual walk to raise breast cancer awareness is kicking off. monique braxton is live in willow grove where they are just getting warmed up here. >> reporter: hi there. many of our walkers were sleeping this morning. volunteers were coming here and it's amazing the energy and enthusiasm in the crowd for this three-day event. they are fighting breast cancer. banners reading we walk. we fight. we're honoring those who have already passed away. right now everyone is moving to the front of the stage. opening ceremonies about to begin. you're looking at a sea of pink from here. the susan g. komen tells us you'll find 236 breast cancer survivors. walkers will walk 60 miles. a spokesperson also tells us one
