hello and welcome everybody, it's 1:30 p.m. here in the iranian capital techron, you're watching press tv's world news. our top story for this half hour, senior hamas official says, the palestinian resistance movement is trying to secure the release of as many palestinian prisoners as it can, in a possible deal with the israely regime. xazi hamad's remarks came after hamas said it had delivered its. response to a ceasefire proposal to key mediators, egypt and qatar. reuters has found the draft which shows the first 45-day stage will allow exchange of prisoners, release of some non-military israeli captives and the delivery of aid to gaza. it will also allow the reconstruction of hospitals and refugee camps in gaza and the exit of israeli ground forces from of populated areas. according to the draft, hamas has also proposed indirect talks with israel in the first. stage to end military

operations, the second phase, as it shows, will allow the release of all israeli male captives and exchange for a certain number of palestinian prisoners and the complete withdrawal of israeli forces from gaza. the draft shows remains and bodies will be exchanged in the third 45-day phase. international lawyer barry grossman. is joining us now from bai, indonesia to offer us some more insight with regards to that of story. mr. grossman, welcome to the program, uh, give us your thoughts on the details that we were just reading uh for our viewers and the hamas response to uh a possible cease fire at this point, well certainly the the world is um receiving the h and people are hope. full that could lead to a ceas fire,

however, we have to bear in mind that that that the occupation and a particular yahu and others in the current government have made it clear that some of the core elements of the of this cease fire, especially those that would kick in part two are non-negotiable, and so while perhaps there's some scope for the first... say that the initial 45 days or in six weeks to be implemented, even that phase, it seems based on what netanyaho and others have said, would not be accompanied by a full pullout or be it temporary by occupation forces, so there's a lot of obstacles to overcome before ween get to the second phase, which is... with achieving a more permanent

solution that would allow people to live peacefully and live ordinary lives without the blockade, however we'll see what kind of feedback is forth coming from the occupation, certainly there are media reports which suggest that elements within the occupation have looked at it favor. um, but we'll see, what my concern is is that once again we have the resistance negotiating with the occupation on terms set by the occupation, which include number of positions, which by any reasonable measure should should not even be contemplated, and for example, this government has already stated. back in

november that there are standing orders for mosan to go out and assassinate hamas leaders wherever in the world they're found, that was in november, that was before the event. the 7th of january, so this is this is the kind of opposition that the resistance is up against, and of course we've been in this position many times when palestinians are trying to be reasonable and achieve some kind of a compromise that would allow people to live with dignity, in peace, only to see the carpet pulled out from underneath the palestiny, proverbial palestiny. and of course none stands out better as an example of that process than the decision made after the second intepada to stop using bombs and suicide bombs and targeting groups people in israel um and to give peace a chance and that

was met by success of rounds of brutal mil full military ass on gaza and the grabbing of more and more land in the west bank, so so we'll see how this plays out, um, it's a very delicate matter, because on the one hand, if the resistance gives away too much, certainly the prisoners of war which they are holding are one of the few things that my estimation keep the occupation from being even more brutal in this attack of. but anticipating that of course the release of these prisoners of wars is something that's going to happen in three phases with the initial phase being restricted to the elderly and women who are

part rather civilians are part of the idf force um um through conscription rather than voluntarily joining it and so... so all we can do now is w and see what the government comes back with given that itself has apparently received the proposal with some enthusiasm and certainly the the atlantic world's media cartel seems to be taking the position that what's what hamas is looking for is perfectly reasonable. so we can only live in home quite clearly hamas is putting the people of gaza ahead of all other considerations they say is much and that's to be commended and if there's really any failure for this deal to take hold, i

gazents have taken shelter. it added that nearly 8,00 displaced palestinians were evacuated from the hospital following two weeks of israeli siege. hundreds of them. have been relocated to the city of rafah, which also remains the target of israeli bombings. the regime's genocidal war, which started on october the 7th, is now in its fifth month. it has killed nearly 27,600 people, mostly women and children, leaving nearly 67 others injured. the united nations has issued a stern warning against israel's plan to attack rafa, a city in southern gaza saying that it will lead to a large. loss of civilian lives, we can warn what might unfold with the ground invasion and we can make clear what the law says under international humanitarian law, indiscriminate bombing of densely populated areas may amount to war

crimes, so to be clear, intensified hostilities in rafah in this situation could lead to large scale loss of civilian lives and we must do everything possible within our power to avoid. the warning comes after israel said it's reviewing plans to attack rafa claiming that the city is the last remaining ham stronghold the southern city is previously. been declared as the safe zone by the regime, an estimated number of 1.4 million displaced gazons have already taken shelter there. israel is issued several evacuation orders for residents of gaza to move to rafa since the beginning of its genocidal onslot on the besieged strip. meanwhile the world food program says more than half million people in gaz are facing catastrophic hunger conditions. it says levels of acute food insecurity in gaz are unprecedented in recent history. palestinians in the southern gaza city of rafa uh, including the displaced ones are concerned

to break that down for us, as israel is now planning to attack the city of rafa and southern gaza, those areas were designated as safe zones by the israeli regime, and about 1.4 million displaced gazens have already taken shelter there if the israelis now uh start unleashing this uh massacre and onslot on palestinians in the south with the north total. be destroyed, where do gasents have to go? well, if one examines a chronology of events in the last four months, one can see that there is pattern here, the pattern is israel tells people move from this area, area a to area b, they then they bomb them along the road, and then they bomb them in area b, and then they tell them move from area b to area c. and they repeat the process and now the last remaining place that they have

accumulated in, which is rough, which has now 1.5 million of the 2.3 million palestinians are squeezed into this area, that's no more than 15 or 20% of the size of the gaza strip, there's no place else for them to go except to egypt, which israel one. the egyptians don't want, or at least verbally, they say they don't want, so we don't, we don't expect much left, so when the un issues such as tark warning that there will be much larger scale killing as a result of this, of course there is killing now happening daily, even in rafa, as this continues, there will the genocide accelerates and i think the... is also covering its bases by saying this, because there is an international court of justice
