8:02 am
namibia has denounced germany's shocking decision to back the israeli apartide regime in the south african lead genocide complaint before the international court. of justice, the president of namibia heg gangop expressed deep concern after germany rejected the morally upright indictment brought forward by south africa before the icj that the israeli regime is committing genocide against palestinians in gaza. gangop said germany committed the first genocide of the 20th century on namibian said and is yet to fully aton for the genocide. germany was responsible for the massacres of at least 70,00 indigenous herero and nama people of.
8:03 am
of namibia between 1904 and 1908, elsewhere, ugandan president kiri museveni has condemned western powers following his country's removal from major trade pact with the us over alleged human rights violations. in a recent nationally televised address he said that such trade restrictions and pressures have no meaning because uganda is nation of well creators. now we are asking why are western powers using trade as a tool to spread their decadent culture in africa. hello, i'm mubrah kenya and you're watching africa today. this week we are focusing on namibia's statement rejecting germany's decision to defend the israeli regime from charges filed by south africa of genocide at the icj. the second part of our program will be on how uganda is defying western powers that want to impose their decaded culture on the country. stay with us. namibia slams
8:04 am
germany over genocide. germany is among a few countries that have taken an unpopular and controversial decision of defending the israeli apartide regime from charges of genocide in gaza. in response, namibia's president denounced germany for hypocrisy, citing genocide that the germans committed in the african nation more than a century ago when it was a german colony. full support to south africa's icj case against the israeli regime and has called for an end of the regime's us back genocidal war on gaza. now during his new year message, the namibian president said the world cannot ignore the of pride of palestinians. no peace loving human being can ignore the carnage that is wage against palestinians in gaza. there the war
8:05 am
in gaza is telling that there are two types of human beings, those who can be killed like dogs and those who are holy. well, for more on namibia's condemnation of germany's support for israeli regime's genocide against palestinians, we have contacted parata daniel, human rights activist and social justice activist. thanks lot for joining us today. thank you very much, mubarak for the invitation. president hage gengob of namibia has expressed deep concern after germany rejected the indictment brought forward by south africa before the international court of justice over the israel regime's genocidal war against palestinians in gaza. now, first tell us your opinion on these historic statement by the president of namibia. yes, the statement that was made by the president of namibia, honorable on the... of january
8:06 am
says it very clearly that we are in support of the palestinian people who are suffering at the hands of the israeli regime in in gaza and in palestine in overall therefore the the statement that was made it emanated from the anger and the failure of the german government recognize that they committed genocide in namibia from 1904 to 15, germany has failed recognize and speak the same language that they are using defend israel at icj, so many namibians and including the president of namibia, he has find this is very ionic statement that the germany has taken, because now they taken side defend the israel that is committing jonocide. similar
8:07 am
to the atrocity that germany committed in namibia from 1904 to 1915. the government of namibia in its statement said that germany committed the first genocide of the 20th century on namibian soil and is yet to fully atone for the genocide. this genocide has been termed by some historians as the forgotten genocide. germany genocide in nambibia, some historians, they they call it as a forgotten, forgoting the 20th century genocide. it it's really unfair to see the current state of how. israel is basically committing side, mean jonocide in the the palestinian territories, that speaks to the language to us, the namibian people, it raises that anger again, it reminds us of the history of what the germany has done in the media, and the germany government has
8:08 am
accepted, but that accepted does not speak to the language and to the conditions of the namibian people that... affected more specifically the communities that were affected are the nama and the hero remember 85% of the herero population was and half of the number population was terminated by the germany government by then who issued such a statement it speaks exemplary to what currently is happening in the in the gaza street where the israel are able to issue unparalleled statement that that encourages genocide. germany is siding with the current us israeli genocide on palestinians in gaza. now this has raised questions over its sincerity in its so-called apology over the
8:09 am
namibia genocide. now uh, in your opinion, did germany really offer a sincere apology to namibia, or it was just... pr gimmick, it's a pr gimmick to say so, i will say also to say that the german government stand that the taken the apology that that they offer to namibian government or to the namibian it was not a clear conscious decision that the german government so that enates now resuscitates the anger in the namibian people to say that look now the germany government which is failed to apologize. and compensate for the genocide that was carried out in namibia now stands with israel, so that shows how he the history is coming back again to bite this nation, so that that makes it very clear that this governmentts are racist by nature, you can you can go back in history,
8:10 am
the western governments are the one that instituted slavery, wars, you name them, all all these attornment that humans human. the human race has suffered for the past centuries, it all emanated from this government, so we are not surprised by the decision that the german government is stated to defend the israeli government. leaders from the nama and heraro communities in namibia say former colonial ruler germany is not doing enough to make up for the genocide it committed there in the early 20th century. assa munjangwe of the national unity democratic organization says germany perpetrated the genocide and can therefore not make. a just and neutral decision on reparations. germany has been dictating and and for me it was like case of you have murderer or rapist, and this person is the one to decide whether i have raped or not,
8:11 am
and should i find myself guilty, what could be the best punishment or verdict that i can give myself? so that that is how the whole process was not acceptable to us. from 1945 to 2018, the german government paid approximately $86.8 billion dollars in restitution and compensation to the so-called holocaust victims and their hairs. the same government wants to give a pultry 1.1 billion euros to victims of genocide perpetrated by the german colonial regime in namibia. this supposed compensation is seen by many as discriminant. and a reflection of the racist nature of the german government. another genocide committed by germany in africa was in tanganyika in present day tanzania. nearly 30000 people were killed in the country during the margin resistance against german colonialism. but germany is not talking about
8:12 am
reparations for victims of the majizing while it supports another genocidal regime. now this is the same country that lectures others on human. mr. daniel, our last question, what's your view on these double standards? germany government is hiding behind the moral. integrity or moral value of of coming to defend the israel of which they only recognize that remember this th these states in their nature they are racist one are racist because there is no way you can recognize the historical genocide by by germany to the israels and forgeting the context of how they manipulated the historical context. of of the jonocide that that happened or that was committed in
8:13 am
africa, so this is this is very important that everyone everyone else to know that the germany government and many of these western countries, they committed during their colonial regime, they committed mass murder in the whole of the african context, well indeed it's a shame but not surprising that germany a country that committed genocide inside africa. is now supporting the us israeli genocide on the people of gaza. i'd like to thank our guest there paraata daniel for his insight. we now take a short break before our next topic on how uganda is defying western powers intent on imposing their decadin culture on these east african countries. stay with us. uganda defies western pressure. this. speak on expose, publishing unsubstantiated claims of hamas headquarters under al-shifa in gaza hospital
8:14 am
proved to be lies by zionist media. claims of systematic rape on october 7 appealed to racist strope against the palestinian people, sweep major western mainstream media, and shockingly, over half of young americans surveyed on zionist israel's war on gaza, believe the zianist state should cease to exist, and african lawyer captures international. attention with her compelling representation of south africa at the international court of justice, icj. on expose, the truth is just a revelation away.
8:15 am
ugandan president joeri musevini recently criticized the united states over the country's recent decision to remove uganda from major trade pact and issued trade advise warning about the risks of doing business in these east african nation. following the enactment of a popular anti-lgbtq law the us condemned the ugandan went claiming it was violating human rights. the us announced it was removing uganda along with the central african republic, gabon and niger from its so-called african growth and opportunity act. president musavini has consistently remained firm in protecting uganda's cultural values and rejecting the decadent western culture. it's not genetic, it's not hormonal, it is psychological disorientation where some... body because of some experience, hates the
8:16 am
people you should love, and love the people should not love, it's a type of like a sickness, and to discuss uganda's firm resolve to protect the country's cultural values in the face of pressure from western power intent on imposing their distorted culture, we have contacted derek koonga, he's a... political writer at the daily monitor, thank you for your time sir today, thank you very much for having me today, following the commendable move by the uganda lawers to pass the popular anti homosexuality law in may 2023, the east african country has come under pressure from western powers to retract these laws, the ugandan president has stood farm to protect moral values in his country. derek, what's your opinion on this stand by president musevini, i think uh, well uh, it's
8:17 am
quite interesting, my name of view is that i think the west must appreciate the the views of certain countries, i think it's it's it's it's wrong for for them to to think that society. should be at the same level, if um, because my understanding in uganda, surely homosexuality is not welcome here, have nown at least accepted views of or pro homosexuality, so i think the west must appreciate that, that our society at least has not reached at that level of appreciative homosexuality, and this this legislation is popular here. president musavini said trade
8:18 am
restrictions and pressures have no meaning because uganda is... nation of wealth creators, these sanctions are expected to be a trigger towards self-sufficiency in this country also known as the pearl of africa. i think that's where the the the trick comes, because the president is saying one thing and then another thing is happening, because while he says that there will be self-sufficiency, the government continues to get loans, asking for loans from the world bank. from western agencies, from imf, i can go on, so i think that's where the trick comes, because we have not seen real steps being taken for self-sufficiency like reduction in government wastage, expenditure, we have not seen that, so because if we we are to to to to self sustain, there are
8:19 am
certain steps we must take, including cutting on state expend. on on how westage on on the corruption on everything, so as much as the president is saying that and and and its music to our ears, there are no concrete steps that are being taken to ensure that government that uganda self sustains despite the opportunities probably we have as a country, but we are not taking such instead our our debt burden is increasing per day so... where the for me the trick comes, i'm not seeing. president musavini says his country can trade with those people who respect ugandans, as they say every cloud has a silver lining. addressing the recent non align movement summit in kampala, president musavini said countries in this movement can enhance trade among themselves. since we are
8:20 am
members of the same group of countries with similar interest. "we should promote trade among ourselves, because because when i buy from you, i am supporting your prosperity, and when you buy from me, you are supporting my prosperity, and we we shall, i don't know how the secretariat is organized of nam and and of g77 to to bring ideas." of how we can promote and expand uh inter interstate trade among the num countries. now next question to derek yonga: do you think sanctions imposed by the us and other western countries on uganda can open new horizons of trade with
8:21 am
african countries and indeed other countries facing western sanctions such as iran and russia even before sanctions, i think... uh these are opportunities that are always been around, it doesn't have to to go down to sanctions because trade should you know, as long as you have something to offer, i think they should always be trade among different countries because there are various interests of course with um with this western sanctions uh the president has said they can look for other friends, can look for china, you can look for russia, you can look for iran m that has been said previously uh the president of one time the president of iran came here in uganda, we have not yet again the issue of rhetoric is fine uh because these are spoken words, but real steps if if if if if uganda say it's uh it's looking more to the east to
8:22 am
to what what steps have been taken what steps because we for me i'm looking at concrete steps, yes, the idea is there that we can trade more with other countries, of course, if if the west does not agree with our views issues like homosexuality, of course i would definitely you know understand why the country would look in a different direction, but even even in that direction, how uganda has positioned itself, has it positioned itself to take advantage of those new opportunities, for me that's my concept. and i want to see real concrete steps in trading with different countries. us president joe biden announced last october that he was expelling uganda along with some other. african countries from so-called special us trade africa program, now he claimed that the target countries were either involved in gross violations of human rights or not
8:23 am
making progress towards democratic rules. now uh, mr. derek, why are western countries using trade as a tool to spread their decadent culture in africa? well, there is saying in english that who uh who pays you. no, who pays the piper calls, the tunes? so i think they look at the dependency that you most of these countries in the global south, global south have had over time, and and they think that if we we take away what we've been giving them, then they must they will align with our with with some of these beliefs, i think it goes back to dependency buse our countries for a long. time have depended on the west, getting loans, getting grants, you know, most of our healthcare system is funded
8:24 am
by by the americans here in uganda, so the americans think that by by the fact, near fact, because it's a fact that they've been funding our healthcare, the been funding some of our security programs, so we must align' even with their culture beliefs with their we must align, we must store the line, so it's it's it's it's it's part of you know the dependency culture that if if we are depending on them then we must do as they please, so the issue here is dependency that really must be looked up, the african continental free trade area is one of the flagship projects of africa's development framework agenda 2063. this free trade area is expected to boost social economic growth and development and accelerate inter-african
8:25 am
trade. in nutshell, it would make africa less dependent on western powers in terms of trade and development. secretary general of the african continental free trade area elaborates. we're building a a market of. 2.3 billion people with a combined gdp of 3.4 trillion united states dollars. by the year 2035, the the afcfta market, the combined gdp the afcfta afcfta market is estimated to be close to 7 trillion united states dollars. that means that there are opportunities for small medium enterprises, for young entrepreneurs uh to export across regions of the african continent and to take advantage of this vast market, however, if we don't have an integrated single market, we will not
8:26 am
be able to achieve the positive projections that many around the world have made about the potential of the afcfta. according to the imf, africa is projected to be the second fastest growing economic region. in the world, now if african countries are to accelerate inter-african trade, sanctions such as those imposed by the us and uganda will have no impact, and african countries can prosper while protecting their cultural values. now uh, mr. derek, our last question, what steps need to be taken to boost intra-africa trade? i think for quite some time africa has been missing these opportunities, even even. in light of what i would call western bullying, i think a lot can be done to ensure that african there is
8:27 am
boosting trade on on this content continent among african countries because africa has young population, but there is lot of impeidments in terms of you know cross border movements of goods and people, does are needed, for example, moving from uganda to west most of those west african countries is very very hard, so there are a lot of impeedments, trade impedments, here in east africa for example, trade has not been eas, we have the east african community, so we need to take away the trade barriers, we need concrete steps need to be taken, african countries need to get serious and get away from rhetoric and take concrete steps in trading up. man themselves, well uh, there you have it, if african countries take concrete steps to trade among themselves,
8:28 am
they will no longer be vulnerable to... and powers that want to impose their immoral culture as a condition for trade. i would like to thank our guest today, derek kyonga for his insight. well, and that brings us to the end of this week's edition of africa. today, it's always great having you watch the show, you can watch this episode and all our previous shows on our website, pressv.ir. drop us a line through. social media handle and let us know what you think, thanks lot for watching and goodbye for now,
