good morning, thanks for joining us, developing right now in the news philadelphia police made a gruesome discovery in the streets of olney. >> officers spot had a burning car and found a body inside. "eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao joins us from police headquarters with the latest details, jan. >> reporter: erika and ukee, philadelphia police are trying to answer a whole bunch of unanswered questions. who is this victim? is his death related to a shooting that happened hours earlier just blocks away. philadelphia police have interviewed a number of eyewitnesses and so far they have proven helpful in piecing this mystery together. a gruesome discovery, on the 6100 block of north lawrence street in olney has shaken this philadelphia neighborhood a man, found dead inside of a

burning car. this car, a black myths bushy galante. >> the body was burnt beyond recognition. we cannot tell at this time age or race. it is a john doe at this time. >> reporter: philadelphia police were the ones to spot burning car just before 8:00 wednesday night while on routine patrol. victim was found on the passenger side ape pronounced dead on the scene. investigators believe he may have been involve in the shooting just three blocks away on roselyn street earlier in the day. no victim was found when a shooting was reported there at 4:00 p.m. but eyewitnesses on roselyn street described seeing that same car. >> they interviewed several witnesses that a male was shot in the back seat. >> reporter: police say driver spend sped away. at this point no arrests have been made. heavy set man was seen running away from north warren but it is unclear how or if he is involved. it is also unclear who may have shot the victim and if he is, indeed, the same man who was found burned beyond recognition.

>> we cannot tell if he is shot. of course, nobody is touching the body or touching the vehicle. we are hold ago this vehicle as a crime scene. >> reporter: medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the id as well as cause and manor of death. they are looking to see if this man was indeed shot in the head as eyewitnesses reported, there are trying to link these two cases. anyone with information should give police a call. reporting outside philadelphia police headquarters, jane carabao, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". tribute for student athlete killed just before her first day of school at mainland regional high will school. more than 1,000 people attended a candle will light vigil in linwood, new jersey last night nor 14 year-old ashland cook. 149 year-old succumbed to injuries she suffer in the crash on saturday. she was in the car were four teammates in mays landing on their way to the charity soccer tournament. >> i think she was the nicest girl that there ever is. she never said anything mean about anything, ever. really good. she was a great soccer player

far northeast philadelphia, this shot at academy. i-95 looking good. south and northbound looking pretty good and moving well. it is here around the vine street expressway in and out of the center city, south philadelphia and that earlier construction somebody on i the five southbound at the bottom base of the girard point bridge has been cleared out of the way. we're we had opened and wide open for that rush to flood in. roosevelt boulevard still moving well. southbound is your head lights here. north bound where we are seeing that construction vehicle taking out the the left-hand lane but we are note noticing too many delays. not too many delays in the western suburbs, great speeds out there, however, we have an accident, this accident, montgomery county, new hoffmansville road and layfield road compromising a lane. be careful of. that lets head back to the desk. we are following breaking news out of nashville this morning. we have video here showing another disturbance at that same juvenile detention center, where 30 teens escaped earlier this week. this time though check out the video. you can see several teenage inmates attacking a guard.

those involved, include some of the same teens who broke out on monday night. six of them are still on the lamb. >> president obama is in wales for first day of the nato summit. he will meet with other nato leaders to talk about imposing more economic sanctions on russia for its interference in ukraine. leaders will discuss strategies to push isis militants out of iraq and syria. the president wants to build an international coalition to go after isis until they no longer pose a threat. the family of the slain american journalist steven sotoloff break their silence. last night students held a vigil for sotoloff at the university of central florida in orlando. he studied there until 2004 when he left for israel. sotoloff's grieving family issued a statement about his ultimate sacrifice. >> he was no war junkie. he did in the want to be a modern day lawrence of arabia. he merely wanted to give vice to those who had none. >> president obama promised

justice will be served. in the meantime isis is threatening the life of another hostage, identified as british citizen david haines. happening today, the trial resumes for cristina regusters accused of kidnapping a five-year old from a west philadelphia he will in meantry school. regusters brought her trial to her halt yesterday with a tearful outburst after testimony from a relative. prosecutors were trying to show regusters had era cueser. the jury had not heard regusters police statement. she said she was never read her rights. also a preliminary hearing for 19 year-old curtis tanner, one of the two men charge in the beating of a philadelphia park range inner love park last month. another suspect is in the being identified, because he is a juvenile. both face several charges, including aggravated assault. that ranger tells "eyewitness news" that he is okay and on the road to recovery. also happening today philadelphia is one of the estimated 150 cities where fast food workers plan to go

on strike. organizers want fast food chains to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and have the right to union ice. march begins at 10:30 at broad and girard and it will end at broad and arch street. laid off casino workers in atlantic city are getting more help to get back on their feet. egg harbor township hosted an information session for those affect by the casino closing. it followed an earlier event that drew hundreds to the the atlantic city convention center, and the event at the convention center continues today as represents from several agencies and apply for unemployment and other benefits. to know you are losing your job, you know, we knew maybe two months in advance and it is hard to figure out what will happen next, what will be your next move. >> over at kennedy plaza the attention was over on the next miss america where contestants introduced themselves. miss new jersey says problems in the casino industry hit home. >> as the daughter of two casino workers, it is

what age should children have their own cell phones? >> i would say, the middle school age. >> would i say, middle school. >> if i had my way it would not be until they graduated high school. >> reporter: reality is most kids have cell phone well before high school. >> we found that 60 percent of parent said that ten to 11 age range is where the kids got their first cell phone. >> reporter: national consumers league did that survey of over 800 parents in 2012. since then prevalence of cell phones among teens and preteens has nearly double. the average age has gotten even younger. some carriers are marketing to kids as young as five. >> it is not uncommon to see, really two or three years old, becoming quite fluent with using a tablet or a touch device, and, so by the time they turn six or seven or eight, they are very comfortable with mobile devices. >> how young is too young? consumer experts say that depends on the child's maturity and lifestyle. >> thinks an age group where

developing right now, philadelphia police are investigating a murder mystery this morning in olney. "eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao joins us now from police headquarters with the very latest information, jane, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erika. this was certainly a disturbing discovery actually made by philadelphia police officers on routine patrol in the olney section of philadelphia they spotted this burning car, call the fire department, and when they put the fire out they discovered this man's body. they found it right around 8:00 o'clock wednesday night on the 6100 block of north lawrence street, the man was found on the passenger side of the black mitsubishi galante and was pronounced dead on the scene. police say this man may have been a victim of the shooting that happened just three blocks away earlier in the

day. police have been investigating a shooting in the 400 block of roselyn street reported around 4:00 in the afternoon. no victim was fund but police say eyewitnesses tell them when they arrived on roselyn street they describing seed that very same car discovered three and a half hours later engulfed in flames. >> they said that there was a male sitting in the passenger seat of a black mitsubishi who had been shot in the head, and the driver, drove off, and east, on roselyn street. >> reporter: now medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy, to determine, the idea, of this person as well as cause and manor of death to determine if indeed it is same person found in the burned vehicle as the one eyewitnesses spotted getting shot in the head. at this point there are no arrests, a man, heavy set man was seen running away from the scene. that burning car, at 8:00 o'clock last night but no indication at this point if or

how this man is related to either of these cases. we are live outside police headquarters, jane carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". happening today a preliminary hearing for a philadelphia police officer accused of bumping a pedestrian with his car and then threatening him with a gun and then shouting racial slurs. at alleged incident happened last october, officer edward saw wick i faces terroristic threats, powe tellings of instrument of crime, harassment and disorderly conduct. later today the department of justice is expect to announce its plan to investigate the ferguson missouri police department. investigators will look into arrest patterns and use of of force by police. meanwhile missouri governor jay dick on lifted the state of emergency. he declared last month after nights of unrest. violent clashes between police and protesters follow the shooting death of an unarmed teen by police back on august 9th. a new accuser is reportedly suing former penn state coach jerry sandusky and

week now after nearly dying during a routine procedure for a doctor's office. rivers is on life support, her daughter melissa says her mother is being kept comfortable as she thank the public for all of their prayers and support. tomorrow the government will release the august employment report. >> according to cbs news business analyst jill schlesinger the market is gaining momentum which makes it a good time to refresh your resume and jobs search. she joins us live this morning. jill, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> so what is expect in tomorrow's. >> reporter: report we will get about 225,000 jobs in august, unemployment rates should remain at 6.2 percent. maybe we will dip to 6.1. despite a very slow start to the year the economy has produced an average of 230,000 jobs per month this year. that puts 2014 on track to be the best year, since 1999, for job creation. >> that is great. >> any other signs out there that the job market could be

picking up. >> in addition to the monthly data weekly job less claims are at eight weeklies. here's a bit of good news, small businesses, say they are feeling more confident in the overall economy, future of their own businesses and they have now made very important steps forward in hiring. we know we saw small businesses really lag in adding employees, as a result, now may be a really great time for disgruntled workers to tune up their resumes and restart their job searches. >> i hear you jill, but how should we start. >> first have of all you cannot start because you are stuck here forever. we are not letting you go anywhere. >> but everyone else, examine yourself. this is really important. i spoke to career coaches this week. you have to identify not just what you like but also what you hate and what you are really good at. then start to think like an employer, what you talk about your experiences, focus on the requirements of this new job.
