♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 11:00 o'clock, a light show in the sky postponed the big show on the parkway. severe weather forces evacuati evacuations at philadelphia's made in america festival. at this hour storm scan3 shows the bulk of the storms are now over the delaware in new jersey coasts. the question is, will there be another storm around the corner? >> good evening, i'm diana roc rocco. natasha has the night off. this evening's storms came in fast and left their mark.

let's get to meteorologist justin drabick. he has more and what we can expect through the night and into tomorrow. >> good evening. the good news we're not tracking severe thunderstorms right now. but still heavy rain moving through the atlantic city area few lightning strikes so this is a weaker thunderstorm still dropping lot of rain. those showers extend all the way down in cape may into dover, delaware. still south jersey, delaware, best shot to see wet weather even a thunderstorm through the overnight hours. over around the wilmington newark, delaware, into elkton married heavy rain riding i-95 that moves off to the east. watch out for slow travel south and east of philadelphia. another cluster of showers trying to develop near lancaster county. that could roll through the city through the overnight. they're the heaviest rain indicated by the yellows reds and oranges near egg harbor township, atlantic city, that will be moving offshore in the next half hour or so. another line of some heavier showers extending from the wilmington area into vineland, new jersey this extends back into cecil county, maryland. so not out of the woods through the overnight. keep that in mind if you are

doing some traveling and still the threat for showers even a few thunderstorms remain in our forecast for labor day. so overnight, scattered showers and storms especially in southern new jersey and delaware. watch out for heff vo rainfall that could lead to urban flooding. very warm outside still. it's muggy. mid 70s for the temperatures right now mount pocono at 68 degrees. quakertown doylestown both at 72 this hour. these temps hold steady through the overnight and we're sitting in a tropical air mass these dew point temperatures well into the low 70s that's classic for the middle of some are. so that's helping to fuel these heavy showers and storms. here's your labor day forecast around the region. near 90 again for philadelphia. 83 for the high at the shore. near 80 in the mountain. however, throughout the day there's a chaps for scattered shower or storm. no need to cancel the plans but fur outdoors tomorrow keep your eye to the sky if you hear thunder get inside because you are close enough to be struck by lightning tracking for 90's for the up coming week. i'll show you the seven day in a if you minutes. diana. >> made in america concert is

running behind schedule thanks to the rain. those who made it back after the rain delay are determined to brave the elements until the very last act hits the stage. "eyewitness news" reporter noel mcclaren that's been ease your said than done. >> reporter: they didn't pay for a light show but that's what thousands got instead of the made in america concert as storm clouds rolled in. >> thank you for your cooperation. >> reporter: ordered to seek shelters frustrated festival goers poured out of the gates as conditions were too dangerous. >> it's a bummer. >> we paid a lot of money g concert organizers didn't order them in preparation in case of a storm. there's in plan in place if the weather gets bad. >> the plan in place to sit still and watch the concert as it goes on. again i think if it's any concerns about the safety of the attendees then that's something

"eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers traveled to the high school in holland, bucks county to find out mr. about the young victims. >> reporter: the council rock high school south community is grieving after the loss of three of their own. ryan lesher, shamus digney and cullen keffer all incoming sophomores were killed late saturday morning after the suv they were riding in overturned in paul pack township wayne county which is in the poconos. six people were inside the vehicle. although the extent of the survivors injuries were not immediately known. authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident. the boys high school did release a statement asking for prayers

for the victims families during this difficult time. >> the school also said it will be open tomorrow on labor day from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to provide grief counseling services for anyone who requests it. school is scheduled to start here this week. we're in holland, buck county, matt rivers cbs-3 it witness news. >> new tonight, philadelphia police are on the seen of a de deadly car accident in philadelphia's port richmond section. "eyewitness news" on the 3,000 block of lewis street. police say a 60 year old man was driving north on delaware avenue when he tried to make left hand turn instead he hit a utility pole. he was rush to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. >> the end of the summer season signals a sad end to a fixture in atlantic city. showboat casino shuts down today after 27 years on the boardwalk. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson was there as the doors closed. >> reporter: emotional sunday on the boardwalk. closing time for the showboat casino.

>> on this labor day weekend, the worst kind of irony, sunday nearly 2,000 employees here lost their jobs. >> everybody was in tears today. >> reporter: before the summer is over 12 atlantic city casinos will be down to only eight. nearly 8,000 workers will be job less. >> 8,000 family out of work in an eight-month window of time is an economic disaster. >> reporter: former employee ruth a inform n joyce was herd along with her hub as bartenders when the cass soon know originally opened nearly 30 years ago. >> it is very difficult for the guests. it's very difficult for the employees. it's a sad time in atlantic city. >> reporter: joyce and her husband are among the for hundred 70 workers being transferred to another site by owners caesars entertainment but she was quick to point out there's no guarantee. >> bergere pigged within the company doesn't guarantee you work. if you're not working, you're not getting a paycheck f you're not getting a paycheck you're still on unemployment. >> reporter: 23 year veteran

angela brock kerr man was not repositioned. now like so many, faced with the uncertainty of unemployment after two decades of a place she called home. >> well, just give it to god it guess. just have to keep praying, you know. >> reporter: up next for many of these workers, the atlantic city convention center. they're setting up a resource center for many of the workers who were laid off here. that will be on wednesday and of course now many of these workers will be looking for work. reporting from the boardwalk in atlantic city, i'm steve patterson, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> and today is the last day of normal operations at the revel casino and hotel before business winds down. revel's hotel is closing tomorrow at 11am. the casino will shut down at 6:00 o'clock tutor tuesday morning. then the trump plaza is slated to close on september 16th. >> buck county authorities are trying to figure out what led to a deadly shooting among family

members this morning. authorities were called to the 4,000 block of fayette drive in bristol at around 3:30 in the morning. investigators tell "eyewitness news" at least one member of of the family was shot and killed at the scene. police are still trying to determine who pulled the trigg trigger. >> a hit-and-run outside a bar in the northeast leaves a man in critical condition. a total of four men were struck just after 2:00 o'clock this morning outside reds bar and grill on roosevelt boulevard. the striking vehicle is black and believed to be either a chevy trailblazer or enjoy. anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police. >> a home and vision in marion station ends with two men hurt. the weapon in this case a hammer. it happened at about for clock this morning on the 200 block of edge hill road. investigators were seep collecting evidence from the home. police say the victims may have been targeted because they own a store. their conditions are not being released.

so far no arrests have been ma made. >> egg harbor township fire officials are investigating a fire at inn in somers point that forced nine people out overnight including a child. these photos were taken outside the bay island inn early this morning. one resident was taken to the hospital for medical attention. the red cross is helping folks with food, clothing and temporary lodging. the cause of that fire is under investigation. >> still ahead tonight on "eyewitness news", putting pressure on the president. the latest push for the us to take action against isis. plus, the latest on joan rivers. the comedian's daughter releases another statement about her mother' condition in the hospital. >> and a highway shut down for hours after a 50 car pile up. what official say caused this mess. justin? i'm still tracking showers and storms that kim packet your labor day. i'll time it out for you coming up in the "eyewitness weather" forecast. >> plus ahead in sports the phillies made sunday night trade

>> welcome back. pretty amazing video from washington state. officials say more than 50 cars were involved in a major pileup. the cause, a dust storm. dozen of people were injured. fortunately, all injuries were minor. the highway was closed for more than four hours as crews cleared all the vehicles. u.s. air strikes have helped break a six day isis siege in iraq. this comes as key lawmakers push for action against the islamic state. the white house announc announcd hit isis targets near the town of em herly home to 20,000 members of an ethnic minority facing passers. president obama doesn't have plan to crush the stream mists. >> i wish our president was showing the same leadership that david cam ran showed. what is president obama waiting for and what we need in iraq want we need in syria we need

man. delaware county residents come out to celebrate two world serieseries championships. "eyewitness news" was there. the 15 yeares won the world sers national championship. the 13 year old division won the babe ruth world series on friday in virginia. it's the first time in its 57 year history that both teams won their age groups in the babe ruth world series. good for them. >> and taken 93 dragon star pitcher and sports illustrated cover girl mo davis is at wnba conference finals in minnesota. the little league world series got a chance to meet players today. former uconn star maya moore signed her jersey. mo'ne has asked her dream is to play for uconn and then eventually the the wnba.

the rain didn't put a damper op everyone's labor day plans. take look at that. paulsen us this i witness cam video from west chester. his friend dee having fun on the slip and slide in this case, clearly the rain made it more fun. >> perfect form there. >> good for them. >> what way to spend sunday. exactly. >> i don't think people on the park it park with having as much fun when the rain hit the concert. >> good music going on. still tracking a chance of showers and storms coming in for labor day not an all day wash out. no need to cancel the barbecue just yet. have your eyes in the sky if you're outside. tracking a few showers around the city some light rain. good news is a lot of the thunderstorm activity has diminish for the time being. a couple of lightning strikes out there. let's show you storm scan3 the bulk of action still across south jersey right now. especially in atlantic city. starting that see that heavy rain exit the coastline moving offshore. line of heavier rain coming

through gloucester county this extends back across south wilmington, down towards newark, delaware, in to elkton maryland and cecil county this is all headed to the east a couple more showers trying to break out across chester county and lancaster county that will head east. still here in philadelphia could get a couple of showers through the overnight. possibly hear rumble of thunder as well a lot of the storms have died down. not out of the woods yet. clouds over the region some more showers extend well back to our south and west over west virginia. this little disturbance be right over our region again for labor day. that's why we can't rule out the chance for a scattered shower or storm even on monday. especially during the afternoon. it's warm though. temperatures still in the mid 70 probably hang that through the overnight hours. we're sitting in that tropical air mass so a lot of humidity to talk about certainly feeling like summer through the upcoming week as that humidity still remains very high for monday and tuesday. we'll have that oppressive feel to the air mass. wednesday it's a little bit better but still moderate but you'll notice a big difference

in what we're dealing with for the next few days as far as the humidity goes. tomorrow partial sunshine, afternoon scattered shower or storm possible upper 80s to near 90 degrees. watch what happens for tuesday. head back to work and school low 90s for many spots across the delaware valley. cooler near the coastline very humid. it may foal more like the mid and upper 90s when you factor in that humidity. here comes the change. it's cold front slides through tuesday night. could bring a shower or thunderstorm. less humid conditions on wednesday but it's still very warm. temperatures well above average. going to be seeing highs in the upper 80s for the end of the week. so through the overnight hours, two, 3am the slit for showers maybe a thunderstorm especially from the city on south and east into delaware and south jersey improving conditions for labor day morning still a lot of clouds around with a few peeks of sunshine into the afternoon but here come the scattered showers possible thunderstorm that pops up late empty day on monday. that dies down for monday evening. looks good, of course, on

tuesday as you head back to work and school. hot and humid. then tuesday night another shower or storm possible with that front coming through and then wednesday looking okay. with plenty of sunshine with less humid conditions. let's talk about the those temperatures very warm again tomorrow. many spots upper 80 could touch 90 depending on how much sunshine we see. even warm day near the shore low to mid 80s for the highs look at tuesday. we're surging into the low 90s for high temperatures. good 15 degrees above average in some spots. even at the shore. approaching mid and mack even upper 80s with a westerly breeze. overnight, scattered showers or storm mostly cloudy, muggy 73. your labor day forecast watch out for that afternoon shower or storm with high near 90 degrees. here in center city we'll check out that shore forecast partial sunshine. even at the shore they'll ab threat for shower or storm. air temperature 83 degrees. ocean water very nice at 76. here's the extended forecast this does not look locate a september 7 day. 92 for the high on tuesday.
