of backing down. >> we have to do everything we can, given that relative, you know, privilege to be out here and to really push as hard as we can. >> while demonstrations have turned violent at college campuses around the country, this week here at cal, the uc berkeley divest coalition has led a peaceful protest. students are taking turns camping out, and they've grown from about a dozen tents on monday to more than 70 by friday. >> we have three kind of sleeping pads here, undergrad cecilia luna parra shows us around the tent she's sharing with five fellow bears. >> she was just elected to berkeley city council last week. >> our tuition dollars are currently going to corporations that are aiding this genocide. >> protesters are calling for the uc to divest from those companies to end its silence on gaza, to cut ties with israeli universities and to protect students organizing in support of palestine. supporters are lending their own creativity to the cause, with this chalk

artist sketching a bird onto the plaza bearing the colors of the palestinian flag. it's kind of a way that i grieve, in a way that i can really just show my solidarity. others are old enough to remember berkeley's historic role as the home of the free speech movement. >> i remember the #### no. we won't go during the end of the vietnam war. sometimes you have to throw enough logs on the fire to create a big enough smoke signal. >> organizers say these protests will continue until the university agrees to divest it. a spokesman for the university says they won't be changing any investment policies at berkeley. joey hornick, ktvu, fox two news and demonstrations aren't just limited to berkeley right now. >> on the peninsula, pro-palestinian protesters are refusing to leave stanford university. ktvu is amber lee was at the stanford campus tonight where the school wants protesters to disperse. >> but so far, administrators have not stepped in.

>> we're at white memorial plaza , where students have been demonstrating in support of palestine. they're demanding that stanford university divest from companies with ties to israel. at times they've chanted, danced and marched. we counted more than a dozen tents, stand. ford officials say the tents and overnight camping pose a security risk. they say students who violate school policies could face discipline, and anyone who breaks the law could be arrested. i spoke with a man who identified himself as a palestinian american who came here to observe and support the students. >> when i look at these kids, i fear for a fear for their safety, and i hope that they will be allowed to exercise their first amendment without the risk of being kind of retaliated against, or being arrested, or being harassed, or being harmed. >> this demonstration coincides with stanford's admit weekend welcoming incoming students. i spoke with one student from houston who tells me he'll be starting in the fall.

redwood city has been formally charged. >> the san mateo county district attorney today charged 65 year-old henry fonseca with grand theft. the da says he stole three packages right off the front porch of a home. inside one of those packages was a wedding dress worth nearly $2,000. fonseca was arrested earlier this week. the wedding dress has since been found and given back to its rightful owner. >> ellen degeneres is workshopping a new stand up show for netflix and recently made some jokes at a live show in la this week. addressing her leaving her famous talk show, the ellen degeneres show came to an end in 2022 after two decades following claims from former staff members that the workplace was a nightmare. tmz's michael babcock explains the sarcasm and irony behind ellen's jokes at the live show. >> when she got on stage and gets that mic in her hand, ellen made the joke. hey, look, you know, i was canceled by hollywood because i'm the first person to be mean in the city. obviously making the joke because there are many, many people who are not the nicest in

have to. sometimes it's one bite at a time, and that's one of the ways that we're approaching it. >> house representatives from california, illinois and new york were also involved in this trip in colorado, a former paramedic who injected elijah mcclain with a powerful sedative has been sentenced to four years probation. >> jeremy cooper had faced up to three years in prison after being found guilty of criminally negligent homicide. during the trial last year. authorities say he administered a dose of ketamine to mcclain after he was restrained by police back in 2019. the other paramedic was sentenced to time in prison. cooper spoke in court before the sentencing as if he were speaking directly to mcclain. >> i wish i wasn't standing here talking up to you because that would mean you were here. there's so much i want to say to you. first, i want you to know

miles an hour and then on sunday, mostly sunny, a touch warmer so it's not a big change in temperatures, but temperatures will be trending up over the next couple of days. we have been tracking some showers on the radar over the past few hours, especially out toward the sacramento area and some snow showers out toward the sierra. things are starting to diminish for this evening, and the winds are diminishing as well. as you can see, some of these wind reports now there's it's still breezy in some spots, but not as strong as earlier. that at least compared to this afternoon. sfo still has a wind gust of 32 miles an hour and half moon bay winds out of the north, gusting at 25 miles an hour. here's our live camera looking above san francisco, out toward the bay bridge. for tonight. we'll check out some of the current numbers for the 11:00 hour. we have cooled off into the 50s. santa rosa 52, in oakland, 54 degrees. there will be a bit of a chill in the air first thing tomorrow morning, so definitely want to bundle up. we'll have lots of 40s with partly cloudy skies for your saturday morning. this system has dropped in from the north. actually ushered in some

cooler air, generated an unstable pattern producing some showers and some sierra snow showers, especially yesterday and also we had the cool conditions. this will be on the move in this area of high pressure offshore wants to build in, so we have a dry forecast this weekend with some visiting clouds off and on throughout the weekend, and a little bit of a bump up in the numbers over the next several days. here's your forecast model 7:00 tomorrow morning we will have partly cloudy skies and we'll keep an eye on this cloud cover wants to move in mid to late afternoon on saturday and then on sunday some patchy morning fog and then we'll gradually clear things out. so sunday is looking just great with increasing sunshine and a little bit of a bump in the numbers. highs for tomorrow will be in the upper 50s coast side. still breezy for the beaches even right around the bay. we'll have temperatures in the 60s and the warmest locations will be approaching the lower 70s. we'll continue to add on maybe two more degrees in your sunday forecast, and it is just a nice one. i like to call a cruise control forecast into next week with no major changes headed our way, but it's just interesting you know, to we're

talking about the winds here and sierra snowfall to not feel like spring today at all. >> not even the slightest. yeah wednesday looks wednesday looks like summertime. >> we're looking pretty good next week. yeah definitely trending in the right direction. >> all right. sounds good mark. thank you. new at 11. the suspended ferry service between san francisco and sausalito is extending into next week. the city of sausalito made that announcement today in its weekly press release. the sausalito landing has been closed since april 19th after routine inspection revealed damage to one of the four piles. golden gate ferry service could resume the week of april 29th. until then, ferry staff or stationed at the landing directing riders to busses, replacing the ferry service. >> a largeection of an east bay freeway is now closed through the weekend. tonight, caltrans shut do i-680 from pleasantono sunol to make repairs to the road. th closure lasts through monday morning and is ktvu, zac sos explains it could cause some big traffic delays as. >> at the strike of nine road crews in pleasanton moving in to

shut down southbound 680 at the 580 interchange all the way south to state route 84 in sunol. roadwork that janice marra of caltrans says will run through four in the morning on monday so they can resurface the roadway. >> we thank motorists for your patience as we work to improve the highway. >> patients, something bob gobble says he's now short on after repeated closures in the area. no, i'm not happy. >> i wish they could figure out a way to keep traffic moving and still get the work done. seems a pretty extreme to shut the whole thing down for such a period. >> it's work that caltrans says is long overdue for this stretch of highway. >> folks familiar with that roadway know it's full of potholes. it's not in the greatest shape. >> the reason they opted to do all the work at once. >> we're eliminating 40 nighttime closures and shrinking them all into one weekend. >> well, repairs are underway. detours will be in place. >> best bet this weekend is probably to avoid the area.

williams-sonoma has been ordered to pay $3 million for falsely claiming that some of its products were made in the usa. the federal trade commission sued williams-sonoma back in 2020 after they found the company had been advertising. some products were made in the u.s. when they were actually manufactured in other countries, like china. the ftc says this settlement marks the largest ever civil penalty seen in a made in the usa case. a unique scavenger hunt began and ended today in san francisco. a coin collector and shop owner decided to give away $10,000 worth of rare coins by hiding them across the city. and boy, did it go fast, that store owner posted the scavenger hunt. it ended ter all seven coins were found just in a matter of hours. the man behind the treasure hunt put out those clues today, posting on social media. annow l of the booty has been collected. the shop owner told us he wanted to hold the hunt to encourage more people to collect coins. >> a driver in southern california is busted for using

in santa fe springs outside la, says it washed a car across several double lines when an officer pulled the driver over. they noticed a person with a sharpie goatee sitting in the front passenger seat. that person turned out to be a mannequin. chp says the driver was issued a citation for multiple carpool violations. >> it was a call to action after several deaths at a homeless encampment in san jose. advocates knew something needed to be done, as ktvu s andy rubin explains, they scrambled to gather help and brought a resource fair right to the encampment. >> after the third death at the san jose homeless encampment, advocates wanted to do something.

>> i had asked the people of the camp if they wanted to have a memorial, or if they wanted to have a resource fair, to hopefully address the needs and for people to stop dying at this camp. they said a resource fair. >> the homeless asked for specific things like mental health help and narcan training, and they wanted them as soon as possible. they called it an emergency. >> yeah, mostly due to fentanyl and, now this new, you know, this new drug that's kind of come into play. >> the new drug, xylazine or tranq. experts say it turns users into zombies and can rot the skin and is not helped by narcan. >> now it's made its way out here, so, unfortunately, this encampment really needs some help. >> pair of socks. >> so advocates pulled this resource fair together in just three weeks and brought it right to the encampment off of cherry avenue. they offered showers and food, as well as housing and medical assistance. there was specific training on when narcan works and when it does not.

co-founder of remote optics, a san mateo based company that uses drones for construction and real estate. >> now there's this new requirement called remote id, so every drone has to if it doesn't come with remote id in the drone, when you buy it, you have to put a transponder on older drones. that's something people aren't aware of. you have to register the drone. you know, flying over people is generally a, you know, frowned upon by the faa. >> and again, that event is tomorrow afternoon. faa officials will be on site to discuss the drone licensing process. >> the city of san francisco is launching a bid to become the new home for the sundance film festival. the executive director of the city's film commission says the organization is submitting a request for information proposal. the bid is in response to the festival's announcement last week that it is looking to potentially move the internationally recognized festival out of park city, utah, where it has been since 1981. >> there's a celebration planned
