roberta gonzales and rosemary roscoe. so yeah, it starts with the row. >> you're like, how am i going to finish this? yeah. good morning. happy monday ladies. happy earth day everybody. we are with another nice morning out there. temperatures ranging from upper 40s to upper 50s. as we get into the afternoon, we will begin to see a transition. expect the coastal clouds to return this afternoon, and that will drop our temperatures along the coastline. still a very nice day. a better look at the current conditions and what we can expect for today, as well as the rest of the week. coming up in just a little bit, it is almost 401. let's see how the traffic is shaping up this morning with sal. good morning sal. good morning rosemary. >> right now we are doing very well. it is nice to be out there if you're going to be out there early. let's go right to the bay bridge. it looks pretty good here. and it's nice and light. this is why people get up early, get on the road and have this virtually to yourself. this is a look at interstate 880 and that traffic looks very good. and if you're driving on the san mateo

bridge, we're off to a good start. i do see some flashing lights out there. we'll investigate. so far it does not seem to be causing a big traffic delay. 401 let's get back to the headlines. all right. >> thank you. sal. today former president donald trump is back in court as opening statements in his hush money criminal trial begin. 12 jurors will decide whether or not the falsified business, whether or not he falsified business records to cover up a sex scandal during his 2016 presidential campaign. one key witness expected in the trial is trump's former lawyer and fixer, michael cohen. >> there's no question that the payments occurred. the question is whether or not the payments were illegal and what the prosecutors are going to have to argue here is that the payments that trump made to cohen were not for legal fees, that, in fact, they were to reimburse michael cohen for these hush money payments and that those reimbursements were made. i think the prosecution will likely argue, in order to try

and influence the election. >> cohen went to prison in 2018 after reaching a plea deal in a related case, trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts in this hush money case. the former president is still facing three other criminal trials. >> the supreme court is taking on several important cases this week. on thursday, the high court will hear arguments on whether former president trump can claim immunity for any act committed while in office. past supreme court rulings held a president cannot be liable in civil cases, but the court has never weighed in on the question of criminal prosecution. this case stems from trump's indictment over his role in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. >> today, the supreme court is hearing arguments in a landmark case on homelessness that could impact the bay area. it involves the city of grants pass, oregon. the high court will decide whether people can be cited and fined for sleeping on the streets. the potential impact here in california is significant. a lawsuit over homeless sweeps in san francisco

is currently on hold pending a decision in this case, so the breadth of the potential of the effect of this decision really, really is enormous in terms of the day to day lives of not only the homeless, but the way people experience life in their own neighborhoods, in their on their own shopping streets, their own, parks. advocates say this is the most important supreme court case to address homelessness. federal courts have previously ruled that outdoor sleeping and camping bans violate the constitution's eighth amendment, and are a form of cruel and unusual punishment. >> it's cruel and unusual to tell a person who's homeless, who's sleeping outdoors that he has to move, he can't sleep there, or he's going to be arrested. it's a it's a it's an abuse of the constitution which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. >> governor gavin newsom filed a letter with the court supporting grants pass as part of a push for clarity on what local

governments can do to confront the homelessness crisis. >> a demonstration is being planned for today in san francisco over the supreme court case involving homelessness and grants pass, oregon organizers say they are pushing the court not to overturn the ruling that prevents camping bans. they say it would have a devastating ripple effect for people across the country who are experiencing homelessness. >> governor newsom is once again launching an ad campaign targeting abortion restrictions in red states. this time in alabama. >> we're almost there. you're gonna make it. mass. >> i'm gonna need you to step out of the vehicle, take a pregnancy test. >> the ad depicts a woman being arrested for trying to leave the state to get an abortion. it was created by the campaign for democracy, a political action committee created by governor newsom. it will begin appearing today in alabama, where republicans have called for prosecuting women who travel out of state for an abortion. >> a motorcyclist is in the

hospital after a crash during a sideshow near oakland's lake merritt. well, this was the scene after the crash around 6 p.m. yesterday at the intersection of grand avenue and perkins street, and you can see sideshow participants on dirt bikes still drive into the area as police investigated the crash, where car reportedly hit a motorcycle. oakland police say as many as 50 dirt bikes and atvs were part of that sideshow. we still do not know if the motorcyclist injured was involved in the stunts. >> police have arrested a man they say stabbed another man near a san francisco church. it happened at saint peter and paul church in north beach at 1:00 yesterday afternoon. police say when they got there, they found the victim with stab wounds and took them to the hospital. investigators were able to track down the suspect with the help of a witness. we're still working to find out what led up to the stabbing, or whether this was related to a similar stabbing that took place at the church on april 1st. >> five members of a bar security team have been arrested

by petaluma police accused of beating a customer. this all happened on saturday night at about 1130 at the roaring donkey on kentucky street. the victim told police he was removed from the bar, then beaten up by five employees after he argued with them over their treatment of a female customer. witnesses told police that at one point, the security team held the victim in a chokehold, while others hit him. police say the victim was not intoxicated and did pass a sobriety test. they tell us he had significant injuries, including swelling and bruising on his head. all five of the staff members were arrested, including one who was on probation and another one who had brass knuckles, which are illegal. san francisco mayor london breed is back in the bay area this morning following a weeklong trip to china. >> the goal of her visit is to advance economic ties with chinese cities and companies. she says she discussed adding more flights from china to sfo and the possibility of bringing pandas to the san francisco zoo.

>> we were truly successful in our trip. >> we had numerous meetings with government officials, with airlines and with business leaders. we held a business forum of people who have interest in not only doing business in san francisco, but investing in san francisco. >> right now, flights to china out of sfo are at just 50% of pre-pandemic levels. new flights would create a lot of revenue for the airport. as for the pandas, breed says she expects them to arrive as soon as paperwork is filed and the zoo makes accommodations, which could take up to a year. >> well, new housing will be unveiled in san jose today, the supporters say will help address the homelessness crisis. the 130 unit complex is located not far from diridon station, and is meant to help people who could have trouble affording market rate housing. half of the units have been designed as permanent supportive housing, which will serve people on section eight vouchers. the remaining units will be restricted to households earning 50 to 60% of area median

income, and housing activists in san pablo say they have gathered more than 1500 signatures to get renter protections on the ballot in november, and they plan to present those to the city tomorrow. the package would include rent stabilization, tenant anti-harassment rules and a just cause eviction ordinance. the group, called alliance of californians for community empowerment, say the policy package helps prevent people from being priced out of their rentals and will curb the growing problem of homelessness and housing costs. a rally is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at san pablo city hall. >> all right. it is 408. let's head over to rosemary oroczo for a look at our forecast today. how's it look, it's still looking good. not quite as warm as yesterday for many of us, but as we get into the second part of the day, temperatures will still be above average. giving you a live look here over san francisco. a dark start out there. we do have a few high clouds, a little bit of patchy fog joining us as well. storm tracker two there picking up on some low cloud cover off the coastline. as we get into the

second part of the day, do expect you to become more widespread in by tonight. those low clouds are moving back across the bay and into the north bay. i'll show you this with the futurecast model momentarily outside. right now we do have calm conditions. just a light breeze for you, napa. this morning. and temperatures are up by seven degrees in the south bay of san jose, up by six livermore. but half moon bay here are actually cooler, down by several degrees, as we do have. again, a little bit of fog trying to develop along the coastline and the onshore breeze will be strengthening as well. 46 degrees right now at half moon bay. that's one of the chillier spots this morning. brentwood is 60, as well as the south bay of san jose. so the futurecast again going back to the low clouds that we do expect by the second part of the day. here's a look at lunchtime. and you'll notice the brighter shade of white that is the low cloud cover beginning to rework its way across the coastline and now into the bay by sunset or so, the north bay into the east bay,

the environment. this year, the united nations is issuing a warning about the devastating impact discarded plastic is having on our planet. a new un report found countries around the world generate 400 million tons of plastic waste every year . researchers found most of that plastic comes from products that are only used once, is plastics are never just plastic. they have colors in them. they have fire retardants. these are all chemicals. >> the un says these findings highlight the urgent need to recycle all plastic products and buy items that are not in plastic. today marks the 35th anniversary of the golden goldman environmental prize, founded by two san francisco philanthropists to honor grass roots leaders. >> ktvu jana katsuyama sat down

with john goldman, the board president and son of the founders, to reflect on the evolution of the prize and the environmental movement. >> it was on earth dayn 1990, when san francisco philanthropist rhoda and richard goldman planted the seeds of what now has grown into a yearly tradition the goldman environmental prize. >> we've got to take care of this earth. it's so precious. >> the prize shining a spotlight not on world leaders, but grassroots leaders. >> grassroots leaders have a terrible time being taken seriously. and that this war, this prize, gives us that serious touch that we are important, that our work is important. >> every year it uplifts extraordinary work done by ordinary people. >> this is recognizing individuals who are otherwise not recognized. >> john goldman is one of richard and rhoda goldman's sons and board president of the

goldman environmental prize foundation, now in its 35th year, the prize has honored 219 grassroots leaders from 95 countries. the winners selected for their courage tackling issues including pollution and deforestation, preserving wildlife habitats. >> my parents cared deeply about the welfare of the planet. from early on, my dad loved to hike. my mom relished jumping into those ice cold streams in the sierra without any hesitation whatsoever. and we all marveled at that. reflect back over the years, he shared stories of how he and his siblings all jumped in to help his parents brainstorm. >> at the beginning. and that, he said, led to the creation of the prizes symbolic award statue called the ouroboros. >> we decided that there would be six geophysical areas of the planet six winners from six

regions, he says. >> each receiving $60,000 at the time, six times 60 is 360. >> and so we got this whole sense of, you know, this 360 degree kind of view, which is what the ouroboros is, is the mythical snake eating its own tail. >> an ouroboros is a snake or dragon forming a perfect circle, an ancient symbol of the cycle of life and death, destruction and rebirth. >> the symmetry of it was was fascinating to me, and to all of us. and we thought, this is perfect. >> and so, year after year, at the goldman prize ceremonies in san francisco and washington, d.c, new prize winners come with new ideas a widening circle of inspiring grassroots leaders. >> i think one of the things that's unusual about this prize is the winners have become

extended family. they connect with each other. we encourage networking over the 35 years, goldman says, there have been changes. i think what's changed the most is are the issues, and i think the big one back in 89, when the prize was introduced, was about climate change. it wasn't taken quite as seriously. today, i would say the singular focus of the prize are on issues around climate change. >> another change of great concern. >> activists today, whether environmental or in social justice, are being attacked more and more. their lives are at much greater risk, and the prize itself has faced big challenges. i think the biggest challenge we saw was after my dad died, i think there were people who were skeptical about whether or not it could continue. we heard from quite a few people is this the

end? it was not the end. >> but like the ouroboros sculpture, a new chapter began as john, his sister susie gelman and brother doug goldman pulled together, partnering with high profile supporters to preserve the prize for future generations. >> we need more people like that, not less, and we need more opportunities to improve the planet, not fewer. >> even one person, when determined and passionate, can be more powerful than the most forbidding adversary. >> john goldman says he hopes in the future, the prize team can help find ways to replicate the prize winner's work. a cycle of communities helping other communities in a more connected world. >> we all know we have to face an existential threat, and we have to do something about it right now and not only our generation, but our generations that are coming up are demanding that we do that. >> jana katsuyama ktvu fox two

news. >> thank you. jana great story. the ceremony will be held next monday, april 29th. the winners will be announced at san francisco's war memorial opera house. >> initiative is marking earth day include a campaign for a plant based diet. demonstrators marched across the golden gate bridge this weekend to promote a vegan lifestyle. members of the san francisco vegan society say they want to encourage people to adopt a plant based diet to combat climate change. the group is also trying to pressure elected leaders to endorse the international plant based treaty, which would end subsidies to meat and dairy industries. >> we wanted to take this opportunity to ask people in celebration of earth day to give veganism a try. it really is the very best diet for the planet. >> the plant based treaty also seeks to halt the expansion of animal farms while restoring key ecosystems. >> i think people appreciated the fact that they were getting their message across on the side the walkway of the bridge and not not stopping traffic.

>> so that was smooth and it was a beautiful day as well. >> beautiful day to walk across the bridge. i think it will be today as well on earth day. let's check with rosemary oroczo. >> yes, happy monday! we will have a subtle change come our way. the clouds are making a comeback and with that, a cooling trend does begin today, although still going to be well above average in most areas, giving you a live look. here over san francisco, we have some high clouds out there, a little bit of patchy fog to start the morning. storm tracker two here. it's a quiet one for most of us, with winds generally light, even calm. and the futurecast model here pointing out for you the changes that are coming our way. here's a look at 3:00 in the afternoon in the low clouds working their way closer to the coast at this point. so along the coastline we'll turn partly to mostly cloudy for the second part of the afternoon. and then as we get into the evening hours, do expect those low clouds to begin to work across the bay into the north bay. in addition to the onshore breeze strengthening through the delta and through the bay by tonight,

here's a look at tomorrow morning. notice how widespread it has become and the patchy drizzle will be with us as well. then, as we get into tuesday afternoon, we pull back. partly cloudy at the coast. mostly sunny for the rest of us. wednesday is a little bit of a different story here we are 3:00 in the afternoon and we still have cloudy skies overhead, so the cooling trend begins today and will carry on into the days ahead. right now, 55 degrees in san francisco, nearing 60 degrees over areas of brentwood as well as san jose. and for the afternoon today, 60 degrees for the coastline areas like pacifica. we'll go 66 in san francisco, low 70s to mid to upper 70s around the bay, 77 in redwood city and for our inland east bay, 82 degrees livermore in the north bay, 78 santa rosa. the areas without the influence of the onshore breeze or the low clouds, of course, will be just as warm as yesterday. your extended forecast here. notable drop coming our way by tomorrow

less than three hours when this rail system is finished and the goal is to be finished by the summer of 2028, in time for the olympics in la. >> commuters who rely on the ferry to travel across the bay from sausalito to san francisco will have to find another way to get to work this morning. ferry service on that route has been suspended indefinitely after a routine inspection of the sausalito pier uncovered some of the structural problems. the problem could mean a stressful monday morning for many ferry riders in marin county. >> it's going to be a total drag. i mean, the ferry is, it's really easy. and for me, parking in the city is so expensive and just commuting. i love it just drops you off. and you're right, you know, you're right in the financial district. >> we're still trying to get more information from golden gate ferry about the specific problem with the pier. there will be busses at the ferry terminal in sausalito this morning to take people to the city. preparing for passover.

out to baker beach yesterday. >> oh, nice. >> it was. >> and not foggy. >> it was not foggy. it's still san francisco, so it's still had a sweatshirt on. but the dog loved it. and, justin, you weren't alone. claudine. there's probably a lot of people out there. >> yeah, sure. >> good morning ladies. yes. cooling it down the coast. not very warm yesterday. only in the low 60s. and today just as cool. and then we're adding cloud cover as well as a stronger onshore breeze. so the cool down begins today. although it will be very subtle for many tomorrow . so definitely going to feel it much more and widespread this morning. temperatures ranging from low 50s in santa rosa to about 60 degrees in san jose. this cool down begins today and will continue all the way through the business week, even providing us the possibility of scattered showers by the end of the business week. so a better look at what we can expect for today, as well as the week ahead. coming up in just a bit at 430. let's see how the highways are shaping up on this

monday morning with sal. good morning sal. >> good morning rosemary. i think we're off to a good start here. you know last monday obviously was kind of a trying day today. so far so good. here is the bay bridge toll plaza. it looks pretty good and there are no major problems. this is early, though. of course, and the wave of commuters has really hasn't really hit yet. we usually wait for it about 530 6:00. right now it looks okay on interstate 880 in oakland. as you drive past the coliseum. 430 let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. thanks, sal. well, a large gray whale was found dead just off the coast in alameda. it is the first whale death reported in the bay area this year. >> now, the site of the whale. and the smell is definitely upsetting many people. ktvu zac sos spoke with wildlife experts about what may have caused the whales death. >> it's kind of crazy, man. to be honest, i never, never seen anything like that. >> all eyes on something floating off the alameda coastline sunday. >> i didn't know it was a whale.

i thought it was a rock at first city. >> quickly turning to sadness at crown beach. i feel like bad for the whale because it is dead and its life is over. >> the female gray whale first spotted saturday evening, possibly stuck on a sandbar. it stinks and it looks weird. >> according to the marine mammal center, it marks the first reported whale death in the bay area this year. now the question on everyone's mind how did it die? theories, speculation already swirling. >> i heard that it got tired because it came in and it's too shallow, and it couldn't get back out too early to tell. >> according to whale expert mo flannery from the california academy of sciences, we couldn't really determine anything today. >> there were no obvious signs of death, flannery says. >> the most common causes of death for gray whales include poor nutrition, boat strikes and entanglements with netting. as for whether the whale might be connected to one spotted several weeks ago and tangled in fishing gear and making its way up the

southern california coast, this is not the entangled whale. a view heading out for a closer look. >> i wouldn't do that if, you know, because apparently the oils from the whale will stick to their skin. >> the idea of that, it's just like gross. and more importantly , it's really not safe to be around a large animal that big in the water. >> they move around. that's why we don't do more with it when it's floating in the water. >> the plan now to tow the 40 foot whale away for testing in hopes of learning its cause of death, and it's always an opportunity for us to learn more about the species. back at the beach. sue's only wish. >> hopefully they'll get dignity soon. >> and as for the process of removing that whale from the water, the us army corps of engineers and the us coast guard are expected to help out with that process of towing it away. that process could begin on monday, and afterwards they'll be able to start figuring out how that whale died in alameda,

zac sos ktvu fox two news. >> thank you zach. we'll new this morning north korea launched several missiles towards its eastern waters. today south korea's military says north korea fired short range ballistic missiles from near its capital pyongyang. military officials say it appeared to land in the sea. the launch comes just days after the us and south korea held joint military drills in san francisco. >> the annual cherry blossom parade was disrupted by a group of pro-palestinian protesters. the activists walked onto the parade route in japantown yesterday and unfurled a banner in front of a convertible carrying state senator scott wiener. after about 15 minutes, the protesters dispersed and that parade continued well for jewish people around the world. passover begins at sundown today, but in israel, many people say this year there is little to celebrate with dozens of hostages being that were taken from israel still being held by hamas, and the increasing tensions in the middle east. some relatives of

the hostages set up a table in tel aviv with place settings for their missing family members. the last half a year we are trying to get my sister out. with recent attacks and counterattacks between israel and iran, israeli troops are now being positioned along the entire length of israel's borders. >> israeli leaders are pushing back against an expected decision today by the us to impose sanctions on a unit of soldiers in the israeli military . now, it would be the first time the us has issued sanctions on the israeli military, although the us has not confirmed which unit will be sanctioned. israeli leaders identified it as an infantry battalion made up of, quote, ultra-orthodox military soldiers. they are accused of human rights violations in the west bank. >> the head of israel's military intelligence has resigned over the october 7th attack by hamas, major general aharon haliva is the first senior israeli figure to step down over the intelligence failures

surrounding the hamas attack, haliva said shortly after that attack, he accepted blame for not preventing the assault that killed 1200 people, with 250 more taken captive, millions of jewish people around the world will begin observing passover tonight, and law enforcement is on alert for any possible threats. >> fbi director christopher wray is warning the recent hostility in the middle east could possibly lead to attacks against jewish people here in the united states. wray has ordered law enforcement agencies to add another layer of security layer of security around jewish facilities across the country. >> during passover, we at the bureau remain particularly concerned that lone actors could target at large gatherings, high profile events, or symbolic or religious locations for violence, wray says the number of hate crime investigations involving jewish people in the united states has tripled since the start of the war, between

israel and hamas. >> he's concerned that the number could climb even higher due to the recent military conflict between israel and iran. >> the $61 billion aid package for ukraine passed by the house over the weekend, is giving a morale boost to ukrainian soldiers in recent weeks, ukrainian troops have been forced to withdraw from the front lines as they've been running low on ammunition and other supplies. >> that's the question of life and death. so from humanitarian point of view, this decision will help to save, i think, thousands of lives. plus it gives a chance for ukraine to continue the fight. >> the senate could vote on the aid package as soon as tomorrow. president biden has promised to sign it immediately. >> firefighters in fremont were able to put out a house fire in just about 20 minutes yesterday afternoon. the first engines responded to the home on truman avenue. truman place, that is. two people inside were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, but the fire did damage the home. one of

for two brothers who were attacked by a mountain lion in el dorado county, people gathered at a brewery in camino to support the family. the brothers were out looking for antlers last month in a remote wooded area when they were attacked by a mountain lion. 21 year old talon brooks was killed. his brother, wyatt brooks survived but was seriously injured. >> the horrible thing that happened, and it's a way that people can do something to help, and they really come out and come together. >> all of the money raised will go to support the family. wyatt is expected to make a full recovery. >> los angeles police have arrested someone accused of breaking into the home of mayor karen bass on sunday. police say the suspect smashed a window and entered the home at about 640 in the morning. bass and her family were home at the time of the break in. officers responded to the call and arrested the suspect without issue. worried neighbors, though, say they hope the burglary was not politically motivated. >> i don't even know if they would have realized it was the

mayor's house per se, but i hope it was just sort of more innocent and a result of someone's mental illness, even if it was targeted, i they must have been somewhat ill because they would expect somebody would catch them pretty fast. >> thankfully, no one inside the home was hurt. it is not clear if anything was stolen. la police say this is an ongoing investigation. >> a former pleasant hill police officer who was working in idaho has died in the line of duty. 27 year old tobin boulter started working at the pleasant hill police department back in 2018. he then moved to idaho and was working for the ada county sheriff's office. the sheriff says boulter was shot in boise saturday night during a traffic stop. a citizen witnessed that shooting and called 911. police say that witness performed cpr until deputy boulter was transported to a hospital. he died from his injuries yesterday morning. the sheriff's department says deputies shot and killed the suspect following a manhunt. >> today marks 20 years since former nfl player and army ranger pat tillman died while deployed in afghanistan. tillman

looks pretty good heading out to the high rise. no major issues. also at the bay bridge, we do have a backup. that is not much. there's a very small one that you can't even see here so i think you can still jump ahead of the crowd. it's 5:00. let's get back to you. the headlines. >> all right. thank you. sal well, topping our news at five, there's still no ferry service between san francisco and sausalito. and there's still no word on when that ferry service between the two cities is going to resume. let's go to ktvu. james torres, who's live for us at that ferry terminal in sausalito with the story. and james still a lot of questions about when this could be resolved. >> and claudia will simply put the pier here in sausalito. there's something wrong with it. so much so that boats and ferries can't dock here and they can't pick people up either. and that's what's been the issue since friday. now that's when ferry officials say during a routine inspection, they noticed some sort of damage at the pier. they found enough of it to deem

it unusable for the ferry to use . now, they say the damage led to structural compromises of the pier, but we haven't actually learned more details about that. still no word on what caused the damage, nor exactly what the damage is. and it's bad news for people who use the ferry on a regular basis, especially to commute to san francisco to work every morning. >> it's going to be a total drag. i mean, the ferry is, it's really easy and for me, parking in the city is so expensive and just commuting. i love it just drops you off and you're right, you know, you're right in the financial district for now. >> there is a temporary solution . the ferry service is offering a bus bridge between the two cities via golden gate transit, so be sure to give yourself plenty of extra time if that is part of your morning commute. the ferry service announcing those bus bridges day by day without giving us much of a timeline for how long the service will be suspended. but those officials say keep an eye on their x account for all

updates. and of course, we'll let you know once we know any more details. we're live this morning in sausalito. i'm james torres, ktvu fox two news. >> thank you james. well, today, former president donald trump is back in court as opening statements in his hush money criminal trial begin. 12 jurors will decide whether or not he falsified business records to cover up a sex scandal during his 2016 presidential campaign. one key witness expected in the trial is trump's former lawyer and fixer, michael cohen. >> there's no question that the payments occurred. the question is whether or not the payments were illegal and what the prosecutors are going to have to argue here is that the payments that trump made to cohen were not for legal fees, that, in fact, they were to reimburse michael cohen for these hush money payments and that those reimbursements were made. i think the prosecution will likely argue, in order to try and influence the election now. >> cohen went to prison in 2018

after reaching a plea deal in a related case, trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts in the hush money case. the former president is still facing three other criminal trials. >> the supreme court is taking on several important cases this week. on thursday, the high court will hear arguments on whether former president trump can claim immunity for any act committed while in office. past supreme court rulings held a president can't be liable in civil cases, but the court has never weighed in on the question of criminal prosecution. this case stems from trump's indictment over his role in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. >> today's. the supreme court is hearing arguments in a landmark case on homelessness that could impact the bay area. it involves the city of grants pass, oregon. the high court will decide whether people can be cited and fined for sleeping on the streets. now, the potential impact here in california is significant. a lawsuit over homeless sweeps in san francisco is currently on hold pending the decision in this case.

motorcyclist is in the hospital after a crash during a sideshow near oakland's lake merritt. >> well, this was a scene after the crash around 6 p.m. yesterday at the intersection of grand avenue and perkins street, and you can see sideshow participants on those dirt bikes still driving through the area as police investigated the crash, where a car reportedly hit a motorcycle. oakland police say as many as 50 dirt bikes and atvs were part of that sideshow. we still do not know if the motorcycle is injured, was involved in the stunts, police have arrested a man they say stabbed another man near a san francisco church. >> it happened at saint peter and paul church in north beach at 1:00 yesterday afternoon. police say when they got there, they found a victim with stab wounds. they took them to the hospital. investigators were able to track down the suspect with the help of witnesses. we're still working to find out what led up to the stabbing or whether this was related to a similar stabbing that took place at the church april 1st. >> well, five members of a bar

security team have been arrested by petaluma police accused of beating a customer. it happened saturday night at about 1130 at the roaring donkey, which is located on kentucky street. now, the victim told police that he was removed from the bar, then beaten up by five employees after he argued with them over their treatment of a female customer. now, witnesses told police that at one point, the security team held the victim in a chokehold while others hit him. police say the victim was knocked intoxicated and did pass a sobriety test. they also tell us he had significant injuries, including swelling and bruising on his head. all five of the staff members were arrested, including one who was on probation and another who had brass knuckles, which are illegal. >> san francisco mayor london breed is back in the bay area this morning following a week long trip to china. the goal of her visit is to advance economic ties with chinese cities and companies, she says. she discussed adding more flights from china to sfo and the

in california and las vegas is set to take a big step forward today. the company behind the brightline west is officially breaking ground today. construction was originally scheduled to start in 2020, but that was delayed because of financing issues. the company says passengers will be able to get from la to vegas in less than three hours. when this is all finished, and the goal is to be finished by the summer of 2028, in time for the olympics in la. the charles schultz airport in sonoma county is hiring more staff ahead of an increase in service next month. now, there are reports that dozens of workers are being hired before avelo airlines opens its new base at the airport on may first. the expansion will double its routes to kalispell, montana, boise, idaho, salem, oregon. and pasco,

>> sal. over the weekend, beachgoers made an unsettling discovery just off the shore of alameda's crown beach. they spotted a dead gray whale floating in the water. ktvu allie rasmus joins us now with the plans by scientists and the army corps of engineers. and the work today to remove the whale and figure out how it died. good morning. allie >> good morning. yes, hopefully those plans move forward today. they don't know officially if they'll be able to do this work, but this is the first reported whale death in the bay area so far this year. now this was at alameda crown beach, which is where we are this morning. it is pitch dark so we can't show you the shore or anything in the water, but we can show you this beautiful picture that rosemary mentioned earlier of the moon over the bay. the female gray whale is not on the beach, but rather in the water visible from the shore. it's about 40ft long. it was discovered in the water near the crown beach on saturday evening. how the whale died is still not known. in general, the most common causes of whale deaths are boat strikes,

entanglement, and poor nutrition. but so far, scientists with the california academy of sciences say there are no initial signs that the whale suffered any of those problems. once they are able to study the whale, they hope to get more answers. >> what we'll do once we get the whale to a point where we can conduct an animal autopsy, called a necropsy, we will open it up and look for broken bones and hemorrhaging to see if the animal suffered a blunt force trauma from a vessel strike. >> again, how and why the whale died is not known yet, because the whale is still in the water and not on solid land. scientists haven't been able to do that. necropsy yet. sources told ktvu over the weekend that the plan was to have the army corps of engineers and the coast guard help scientists tow the mammal some place to shore so that they can do that work. and they said over the weekend that their goal was to possibly start that towing and removal process

disperse and that parade continued. well, for jewish people around the world, passover begins at sundown today . but in israel, many people say this year there is little to celebrate, with dozens of hostages taken from israel still being held by hamas and increasing tensions in the middle east. some relatives of the hostages set up a table in tel aviv with a place with place settings for their missing family members. >> in the last half a year, we are trying to get my sister out. >> with recent attacks and counterattacks between israel and iran, israeli troops are now being positioned along the entire length of israel's borders. >> israeli leaders are pushing back against an expected decision today by the u.s. to impose sanctions on a unit of soldiers in the israeli military. it would be the first time the u.s. has issued sanctions on the israeli military, although the u.s. has not confirmed which unit will be sanctioned. israeli leaders identified it as an infantry battalion made up of, quote, ultra-orthodox military

soldiers. they are accused of human rights violations in the west bank. well, as millions of jewish people around the world will begin observing passover tonight, law enforcement is on alert for any possible threats. fbi director christopher wray is warning the recent hostilities in the middle east could possibly lead to attacks against jewish people here in the united states. wray has ordered law enforcement agencies to add another layer of security around jewish facilities across the country. during passover. >> we at the bureau remain particularly concerned that lone actors could target large gatherings, high profile events or symbolic or religious locations for violence. >> wray says the number of hate crimes investigations involving jewish people in the u.s. has tripled since the start of the war between israel and hamas. he's concerned that the number could climb even higher due to the recent military conflict between israel and iran.

>> the $61 billion aid package for ukraine passed by the house over the weekend, is giving a morale boost to ukrainian soldiers. in part, the new aid will be direct military and humanitarian grants to the country. it will also replenish the ammo stocks depleted in the us. in recent weeks, ukrainian troops have been forced to withdraw from the front lines as they've been running low on ammunition and other supplies. >> that's the question of life and death. so from humanitarian point of view, this decision will help to save, i think, thousands of lives. plus it gives a chance for ukraine to continue the fight. >> now, the senate could vote on the aid package as soon as tomorrow. president biden has promised to sign it immediately. >> firefighters in fremont were able to put out a house fire within just 20 minutes. yesterday afternoon. two people inside the home on truman place were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, but one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the cause is still under investigation. the east bay

hacked by a mountain lion in el dorado county. people gathered at a brewery in camino to support that family. the brothers were out looking for antlers last month in a remote wooded area when they were attacked by that mountain lion. 21 year old taylon brooks was killed. his brother, wyatt brooks survived but was seriously injured. >> it's a horrible thing that happened, and it's a way that people can do something to help and they really come out and come together. >> all of the money raised is going to go to support the family. wyatt is expected to make a full recovery. los angeles police have arrested someone accused of breaking into the home of mayor karen bass on sunday. >> police say the suspect smashed a window and entered the

home at about 640 in the morning. bass and her family were at home at the time of the break in. officers responded to the call and arrested the suspect without issue. neighbors are worried. they say they hope the burglary was not politically motivated. i don't even know if they would have realized it was the mayor's house per se, but i hope it was just sort of more innocent and a result of someone's mental illness, even if it was targeted, i they must have been somewhat ill because they would expect somebody would catch them pretty fast. >> thankfully, no one inside the home was injured. it's not clear if anything was stolen, but l.a. police say this is an ongoing investigation. >> a former pleasant hill police officer who was working in idaho has died in the line of duty. 27 year old tobin boulter started working at the pleasant hill police department back in 2018, but he then moved to idaho and was working for the ada county sheriff's office, the sheriff says. boulter was shot in boise on saturday night during a traffic stop. a citizen witnessed that shooting and

called 911, and police say that witness also performed cpr until deputy boulter was transported to a hospital. the deputy died from his injuries yesterday morning. the sheriff's department says deputies shot and killed a suspect following a manhunt. >> today marks 20 years since former nfl player and army ranger pat tillman died while deployed in afghanistan. tillman grew up in the bay area and was a graduate of leland high school. he attended arizona state university on a football scholarship before being drafted by the arizona cardinals. after the september 11th attacks, tillman gave up his nfl career to enlist in the army and joined the elite army rangers. the military initially said tillman died when the unit was attacked in an ambush. the department of defense and congressional investigation later found he was killed by friendly fire. tillman was 27 years old. >> a group of government attorneys in santa clara county has filed a complaint with the federal election commission against district 16 congressional frontrunner sam liccardo and his campaign. that

complaint accuses liccardo of using super pac money to pay for a recount of the march primary election results, in order to avoid a three person race in the november election. >> when we're talking about third party money, when we're talking about super pac money, federal campaign laws require that there not be coordination between those super pacs and a candidate. >> the complaint says liccardo used a poll from april 8th that showed his campaign would be vulnerable to a three way race, and the next day, a former liccardo staff member requested a recount. it also says the recount was paid for by the ctv pac, which the association says was formed by people close to liccardo. well, liccardo's campaign did release a statement in response to that complaint, saying in part, this complaint filed by a supporter of one of sam liccardo s political opponents lacks any evidence and cites a poll in which sam liccardo wins a general election by over 5. >> tomorrow, the u.s. senate is

unfortunately, are increasing. >> the better business bureau is urging customers to just watch out for used car prices that are also well below blue book value. the agency says customers should be suspicious if the seller will not let them see the car, while insisting that money be sent to a third party. >> drivers in the santa cruz mountains could face slowdowns today because of an emergency repair work on highway 17 right near scotts valley. caltrans will have to shut down a lane in each direction near crescent drive to repair that barrier in the middle of the highway. the closure starts at 930 this morning. it will last until 230 this afternoon. >> highway 37 is back open this morning between sears point and vallejo, following this weekend's big repaving project. and that project isn't done yet. caltrans says the westbound lanes reopened shortly after 10:00 last night, six hours ahead of schedule. that same direction of highway 37 is going to close again next weekend for the same repaving project, and then the eastbound direction of highway 37 will be closed during the first two weekends of may so

claudia. >> good morning to you. where you can look across the water here across the bay. you can see a little bit of that silhouette of the san francisco skyline. you won't be able to get across the water here on a ferry to get to the city. and it's been that way for a couple days now. simply put, there is something wrong with the pier here in sausalito. so much so that officials say the ferries can't dock here now. that's when officials say they're a routine inspection. they found damage on the pier. it's been that way since friday, enough to deem it unusable for the ferry to pick up and drop off, pick up and drop off. they say the damage led to some structural compromise of the pier, but we haven't really learned more than that. still no word on what caused that damage, nor exactly what the damage is. but it's bad news for people who rely on the ferry on a regular basis, especially to get to san francisco for work every morning . >> yeah, it makes it a lot harder. you know, we have a lot of people come and visit a lot of commuters that use it. a lot

of the tourists use it. we have a lot of tourists that come over on bikes and take the ferry back. you know, they're going to have to get on busses now, which is going to be really problematic. san francisco. >> all right. thank you jane. >> a bus bridge between the two cities via golden gate transit. so be sure to give yourself plenty of extra time. the ferry service also announcing those bus bridges day by day without really giving us much of a timeline on how much longer it will be where we would go without the ferry on a regular basis. but officials say be sure to keep an eye on their x account for all updates. we're live this morning in sausalito. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you james. certainly a story we will continue to follow for you. well a motorcyclist is in the hospital after a crash during a sideshow near oakland's lake merritt. this was the scene after the crash. around 6 p.m. yesterday. this was the intersection of grand avenue and

perkins street. and you can see sideshow participants on dirt bikes still driving through the area. and this was happening as police were investigating the crash where a car reportedly hit a motorcycle. oakland police say as many as 50 dirt bikes and atvs were part of that sideshow. we still do not know if the motorcyclist injured was involved in the stunts. >> firefighters and police officers in sunnyvale say two newly hired full time paramedics will provide a big boost in public safety in the city. firefighters and police officers are trained to handle medical emergencies, but for years, sunnyvale did not have a single paramedic who are often more qualified to respond to the most life threatening situations. sunnyvale firefighters and police officers are now calling on the city to hire more paramedics. in the months and years ahead, will five members of a bar security team have been arrested by petaluma police accused of beating a customer? >> this happened on saturday night, about 1130 at the roaring donkey on kentucky street. the

victim told police that he was removed from the bar, then beaten up by the five employees after he argued with them over their treatment of a female customer. witnesses told police that at one point, the security team held the victim in a chokehold while others hit him. police say the victim was not intoxicated and did pass a sobriety test. they tell us he also had significant injuries, including swelling and bruising on his head. all five of the staff members were arrested, including one who was on probation and another who had brass knuckles, which are illegal. >> a new housing will be unveiled in san jose today. that supporters say will help address the homelessness crisis. the 130 unit complex is located not far from diridon station. it's meant to help people who could have trouble affording market rate housing. half of the units have been designated as permanent supportive housing, which will serve people on section eight vouchers. the remaining units will be restricted to households earning 50 to 60% of the area's median income.

>> housing activists in san pablo say they've gathered more than 1500 signatures to get renter protections on the ballot in november, and they do plan to present those to the city tomorrow. now, the package would include rent stabilization, tenant anti-harassment rules and a just cause eviction ordinance. the group, called alliance of californians for community empowerment, say the policy package helps prevent people from being priced out of their rentals and will curb the growing problem of homelessness and rising housing costs. a rally is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at san pablo city hall. >> today is earth day. there are many events in the bay area and across the country to inspire people to help the environment. this year, the united nations is issuing a warning about the devastating impact discarded plastic is having on our planet. a new un report found countries around the world generate 400 million tons of plastic waste every year, researchers found. most of that plastic comes from products that are only used once . >> the problem is, plastics are

sex scandal during the 2016 presidential campaign. trump's legal team is expressing confidence as long as the jury focuses on the facts, as long as the jury can see through all the media coverage and all the sensationalism and focus on the actual facts at issue. >> in this case, we believe we have a winning case. >> the jury of seven men and five women include a software engineer, an english teacher, and an investment banker. there are also two lawyers on the jury, which experts say is unusual. >> prosecutors notoriously don't like seating lawyers on juries precisely because they are independent thinkers who often think they know better than the prosecutors do. >> i think it's not a good thing for a defendant because of the influence that can be exercised over the jury. >> i feel like the trial is limiting. >> trump's time on the campaign trail. he's required to be in court. the trial is scheduled for four days a week, with only wednesdays left open. and experts say this trial could last for as long as two months.

east bay massage parlors as part of an investigation into sex trafficking. now the two businesses are located in el sobrante. they are both on appian way and both have been subject to investigations and raids for several years. this most recent raid came after undercover officers say they were solicited by sex workers. no word yet on what officers seized during this operation. firefighters in fremont were able to put out a house fire in just about 20 minutes. two people inside the home on truman place were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, but one person was

the bay here at alameda crown beach. you can see the tide is out. we don't see any. at least where we are. any sign of that 40 foot whale that washed up here over the weekend? the tide is out. and so it may have been pushed out farther away from where we are here. this morning. but we have video from over the weekend of this whale. it was very visible from the shoreline. and this is what people saw when they came to alameda's crown beach, how this whale died and why it washed up here is still a mystery at this point. it is a female gray whale. it's about 40ft long. the most coon causes of whale deaths are both strikes getting entangled in netting for fishing and poor nutrition. but so far, scientists with the california academy of sciences say there are no initial signs that this whale suffered any of those problems. >> hopefully, they'll get dignity soon. >> people are always upset when they see dead whales and it is unfortunate, but it's always an opportunity for us to learn more

about the species and the population and how they're doing . >> now, once scientists are able to study the whale and do a necropsy, they hope to get some more answers, sources told ktvu over the weekend that the plan was to have the army corps of engineers and the coast guard help scientists tow the mammal someplace to shore in order to do that, necropsy, they said they hoped today would be the day to do that. but those plans have not yet been finalized. we've reached out to east bay regional parks, which operates this beach. the coast guard and the marine mammal center, to find out more about those plans today. but in the meantime, you see, this is all we can see from where we are here at alameda's crown beach. a nice, beautiful sunrise and calm waters, but no sign of that 40 foot long female gray whale that was found dead here over the weekend. live in alameda. allie rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right, allie, thank you for the update. the federal government has announced a new program to help fire victims in four counties in the greater bay

area, impacted by the fires in 2020. now, the money from washington, d.c. is designated to help low to moderate income homeowners in solano, sonoma, napa and santa cruz counties. they're eligible for federal grants totaling as much as $50,000 to retrofit their homes to protect them from wildfires. the goal is to help homeowners homeowners who have been affected by past wildfires in these four counties. if you want more information on how you can apply, you can go to our website, ktvu.com and click on web links. the east bay regional park district is set to receive nearly $1.4 million in federal funding for wildfire prevention and forest work. the funding comes from bipartisan legislation signed by president biden in march. they will be used to mainly remove dead and dying trees and regional parks. the financial boost will also improve existing year round efforts to prevent wildfires for jewish people around the world. >> passover begins at sundown today, but in israel, many

people say this year there is little to celebrate, with dozens of hostages taken from israel still being held by hamas and increasing tensions in the middle east. some relatives of the hostages set up a table in tel aviv with place settings for their missing family members. >> in the last half, a year, we are trying to get my sister out. >> with recent attacks and counterattacks between israel and iran, israeli troops are now being positioned along the entire length of israel's borders. >> a group of government attorneys in santa clara county has filed a complaint with the federal elections commission against district 16 congressional frontrunner sam liccardo and his campaign. now, the complaint accuses liccardo of using super pac money to pay for a recount of the march primary election results in order to avoid a three person race in the november election. >> when we're talking about third party money, when we're talking about super pac money, federal campaign laws require that there not be coordination between those super pacs and a

house over the weekend is giving a morale boost to ukrainian soldiers, in part. the new aid will be direct military and humanitarian grants to the country. it will also replenish the ammo stocks depleted in the u.s. after those rounds were sent to ukraine. >> that's the question of life and death. so so from humanitarian point of view, this decision will help to save, i think, thousands of lives. plus plus, it gives a chance for ukraine to continue the fight. >> the senate could vote on the aid package as soon as tomorrow. president biden has promised to sign it immediately. millions of jewish people around the world will begin observing passover tonight, and law enforcement is on alert for any possible threats. fbi director christopher wray is warning that the recent hostilities in the middle east could possibly lead

volkswagen factory in the us. if there are no objections filed, volkswagen and the uaw will begin bargaining. the better business bureau is urging americans to be especially careful when shopping around for a used car. the agency says there has been a 25% jump in the number of online scams targeting pre-owned car buyers in just the past year. the scammers post fake photos and addresses on social media in an effort to trick people into sending them money. >> many of us, post pandemic are still extremely active online. we just want to arm people with the knowledge like this is happening. the numbers, unfortunately, are increasing. the better business bureau says watch out for used car prices that are well below blue book values. >> the agency also says customers should be suspicious if the seller won't let them see the car, but still insist they send money. united airlines reports it is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to

provide more information to passengers, according to techcrunch. united is using ai to provide passengers more detailed information when there are delays or flight changes. passengers will be told the reason for any changes, whether the incoming flight was delayed or there was a maintenance issue . a few weeks ago, united also launched its ai customer service chat bot and the charles schultz airport in sonoma county is hiring more staff ahead of an increase in service next month. there are reports that dozens of workers are being hired before avelo airlines opens its new base at the airport may 1st. the expansion will double its routes to montana, idaho, oregon and washington, and less than a week later, american airlines plans to resume its seasonal service from santa rosa to dallas, switching from a smaller plane to a larger airbus jet. boys and girls clubs across the country have provided a safe space for young students to grow, work and learn at the boys and girls club of sonoma valley. >> one student has found a space

that inspires her to chase her goals. as morella tellez ferreira is the daughter of hard working mexican immigrants. she's a junior at sonoma valley high school. she's been attending the local boys and girls clubs since first grade, and this year she was named the club's youth of the year. through life's struggles, she says the program has given her the confidence to embrace herself. >> you know, just a few months ago, i was really in a position where i was really scared and nervous when it came about myself and just facing who i am. but now i'm here and i'm talking about these things, and i think it's really vital to just show that we can overcome this. we can, you know, represent who we are and be proud of who we represent. and just ourselves. >> since her freshman year of high school, esmeralda has been a part of the club's teen program. it offers resources, students need to succeed in school and in life. >> we're proud of the of how we've been able to kind of uplift esmeralda, but we know

ferry is not running. but we haven't seen a significant increase in that traffic at 649. let's talk about today's weather . here's rosemary. >> yeah. beautiful shot there of the golden gate bridge. good morning sal. we are looking at changes coming our way for the week ahead today. we'll start with subtle changes. the low clouds working their way back up along the coastline. already spotted in near areas of monterey. and you can see from this vantage point we have some fog out there in addition to a batch of high clouds over the bay area. the winds are light. the onshore breeze will be strengthening later today so the low clouds are coming back. the onshore breeze is returning and patchy drizzle is a possibility. even as we move through today and into the week ahead. it took me a minute to get that out. here's a look at the futurecast model. there's a look at 4:00 in the afternoon. you can see those low clouds banked up against the coastline by sunset. begins to push across the bay into the north bay. the little speckles of blue indicating that patchy

drizzle out there by tomorrow morning. the clouds are widespread tomorrow morning. it's going to look quite different than this morning. tomorrow afternoon, partly sunny at the coast. mostly sunny for the rest of us, but wednesday looks a little different. wednesday afternoon could be a partly sunny, partly cloudy day for all of us from the coast, around the bay and inland. so the pattern is switching today. a subtle change, more changes coming in the days ahead. the onshore breeze for the afternoon. that shade of orange does indicate could be a bit breezy along the coastline. just inside the bay and perhaps picking up through the delta as well. temperatures at this time 54 degrees in san francisco, 54 in walnut creek. comfortable start for most of us, although there is a chill in the air for some 49 reported in napa, 46 at half moon bay. afternoon highs for today. 60s at the coast to low 80s inland. we're still well above average for this time of year, but closer to the coast

just inside the bay, likely to feel the change coming on our inland cities. you won't feel it until tomorrow. and when it comes, it's coming in a big way. take a look at that 10 to 12 degree drop in temperatures expected for our inland cities tomorrow. and then we continue a little bit of cooling as we move through wednesday, thursday, friday, upper 50s at the coast, low 60s around the bay, upper 60s inland. thursday night into friday. models even bringing on the possibility of a few scattered showers. so we'll be fine tuning it between now and then. we do rebound though, into the weekend with partly cloudy skies, mild weather, upper 60s to low 70s expected for our inland cities. >> claudia okay. thank you. rosemary. well, a south bay park and zoo hosted an earth day event to help kids get excited about the environment. the party for the planet at happy hollow park and zoo in san jose had eco friendly crafts, games and face painting. the celebration also hosted a variety of educational booths to teach children about animals that are native to california.

who were attacked by a mountain lion in el dorado county. people gathered at a brewery in camino to support that family. the brothers were out looking for antlers last month in a remote, wooded area when the mountain lion attacked them, 21 year old taylon brooks was killed. his brother wyatt brooks, survived but was seriously injured. >> the horrible thing that happened, and it's a way that

people can do something to help, and they really come out and come together. >> all of the money raised will go to support the family. y. it is expected to make a full recovery. a former pleasant hill police officer who was working in idaho has died in the line of duty. 27 year old tobin boulter started working at the pleasant hill police department back in 2018. he then moved to idaho and was working for the ada county sheriff's office. the sheriff says boulter was shot in boise on saturday night during a traffic stop. a citizen witnessed the shooting and called 911. police say that witness performed cpr until deputy boulter was transported to a hospital. he died from his injuries yesterday morning. the sheriff's department says deputies shot and killed the suspect following a manhunt and a bill to get rid of a testing requirement to earn a teaching credential is now moving through the state legislature. if it is passed by the legislature, it would mean teacher candidates would no longer have to take the california teaching performance assessment that test requires

that teachers demonstrate their competence in the classroom by submitting video clips and a 40 to 50 page portfolio of documentation. the california teachers association says eliminating that test would increase the number of credentialed teachers in the state. well, drivers in the santa cruz mountains could face slowdowns today because of emergency repairs on highway 17 near scotts valley. caltrans will have to shut down a lane in each direction near crescent drive to repair that barrier, which is in the middle of the highway. the closure starts at 930 this morning. it is going to last until 230 this afternoon. caltrans is expecting up to a 15 minute delay, and five vta stations in santa clara county will be closing later this week for repairs starting on wednesday morning, the agency will close the mountain view whisman, middlefield, bayshore, nasa and moffett park light rail stations. the transit agency will be providing busses to many vta riders affected by the closure. stations are expected to reopen on sunday, and the giants begin a series against

the new york mets at oracle park tonight. the air is on. a diamondbacks defeated san francisco 5 to 2 yesterday, as the two teams split their four game series. giant hitters only got three hits in what is proving to be a very frustrating season for san francisco. the home plate umpire ejected both manager bob melvin and third base coach matt williams for yelling at him over a foul tip call in the ninth inning. the giants now have a record of ten wins and 13 losses. well, the cleveland guardians defeated the oakland a's 6 to 2 yesterday to complete a three game sweep of. the guardians are off to their best start of a new season in 25 years, and have a big league in the american league. meanwhile, the a's are in fourth place in the american league west with a record of eight wins and 14 losses. the athletics begin a series against the yankees in new york at 10:00 this morning. >> there is no ferry service this morning between san francisco and sausalito, and we don't yet know when it will
