savage and i'm cristina rendon. >> it is a debate. supporters of the change say will draw in important tourism dollars. but the lawsuit alleges it will create confusion and a major trademark infringement. >> ktvu tori gaines joining us now live from oakland international airport with more details on this lawsuit. tori, the back and forth continues here. >> alex and christina, it has been a lot of back and forth now, san francisco city attorney david chu laid out his argument today against the city of oakland for trademark infringement and unfair use, excuse me, unfair competition against san francisco and the city of san francisco. >> we are highly concerned about the immense confusion and chaos for travelers all over the world, that will ensue because of this, particularly for visitors for whom english is not their first language or who do not speak or read english. >> now, chu says, oakland airport's proposed name change
4:02 pm
is an attempt to pull travelers into oakland who may not be intending to go there, and the change could mean economic losses for san francisco. a trademark law attorney we spoke to earlier today says san francisco has a strong argument for trademark infringement. >> trademark is all about protecting the end consumer, and so it's all about trying to avoid consumer confusion. and so the test is likelihood of confusion. here you have identical services oakland airport is offering airport services sfo, san francisco airport, airport services. so all we really have to compare are the names. and they tend to give the first two words a lot of weight, because that's the first thing that the person hears that a consumer sees on their screen when they're ordering their lyft, or when they're booking the flight. >> now, the lawsuit alleges that oakland international airport is trying to take advantage of the strong reputation sfo has built for itself, nearly 100 years after it began operation in 1927. now, the port of oakland responded to the lawsuit today,
4:03 pm
saying in part, quote, sfo cannot lay claim to the geographically descriptive terms. san francisco, let alone claim exclusive rightto the san francisco bay. the port went on to say it trusts travelers. undersnd that the bay area, like every other major metropolitan area, can contain more than one airport. christina. >> yeah, lots of opinions on both sides here. seems that a lot of people are really passionate about this and really taking a stance, but i'm curious on how oakland's city officials are reacting to this lawsuit. >> well, oakland mayor shang tao has already come out in support of this renaming. she's hoping that it can bring oakland a boost of tourism. now, we also heard today from city council member rebecca kaplan, who said, quote, there is no airport in san francisco, but if they want to rename sfo to millbrae airport to be more accurate in terms of location, that would be fine. and we could rename oakland airport to oakland sunny side of the bay airport, unquote. >> okay, the #### for tat

clearly continuing from from one side of the bay to the other here. tori, i know you had a chance to speak with some people at the airport there in oakland this afternoon, including some people, obviously, who live here in the bay area. what did they have to say, coming up at five, we'll tell you more about what those travelers had to say. and it might surprise you. some of the comments they made, particularly about their love of oakland and seeing it change live at oakland international airport. tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news. >> well, state officials say they are working on solutions to address the housing crisis in california. attorney general rob bonta spoke about the issue today in oakland. he says california has the largest homeless population in the nation and called the housing crisis a state emergency. after the press conference, bonham met with residents at the newest affordable housing complex at the fruitvale transit village. >> it is a justice issue when we're not building enough housing and folks who deserve housing can't afford it and
4:05 pm
don't have access. our our housing justice unit is also protecting the many, californians who rent the place they call home, making sure that the protections that they enjoy are honored by their landlords, that they're not evicted unfairly. >> last month, state lawmakers introduced a bill that will give the attorney general power to seek legal action against local governments that violate housing law. >> governor newsom today announced almost $200 million will be spent to address homeless encampments across california, with grants going to three cities here in the bay area. the governor detailed the new funding during a virtual news conference. he said the money will go toward moving people out of encampments and into permanent housing. the initiative will fund 20 projects across 17 different communities here in the bay area. grants are being awarded to oakland, marin and san mateo. >> it's cleaning up these encampments. it's cleaning these sidewalks, taking the sidewalk backs, cleaning them up. they'll permanently by not just pushing

things from one part of town to the other part of town, or out of town and addressing the issue of mental health and substance abuse and housing needs. >> state homeless officials say the local jurisdictions awarded grants. all had strong proposals demonstrating pathways into housing. the governor said there will also be new measures in place to increase oversight and ensure accountability that that funding is being used properly. >> a sacramento murder suspect is now dead after police say that he came out of a home in west oakland with a gun, two oakland police officers opened fire, killing that suspect. >> and our crime reporter henry lee is here now in the studio. after speaking with an attorney for both of those officers. henry. >> yeah, guys, that attorney tells me that sacramento police asked oakland police for help. and that officer spent hours formulating a plan and trying to get the suspect to surrender. but he says it was the actions of that suspect that led to this deadly confrontation in our ktvu. camera was rolling when
4:07 pm
gunshots rang out at a home near 16th and chestnut streets in west oakland at about 940 wednesday night. that's when two oakland police officers shot and killed a murder suspect after he allegedly brandished a gun at them while coming out of a garage. now, we've confirmed the suspect who was killed was 33 year old dominique brot, the same man who sacramento police say shot and killed his girlfriend last month as officers moved in to do a welfare check. officers later found his girlfriend, 34 year old rahma al-sarraj, dead from a gunshot wound. police say brot took off and was tracked down to west oakland on wednesday by sacramento police, who were on the scene, and unmarked cars. they asked oakland police for help as officers took up positions in the neighborhood. by about eight in the evening, i spoke to michael raines, an attorney representing the two oakland officers who fired their guns. he says it's clear the suspect posed a threat. >> the case law in this area is very clear that officers are not required if they're dealing with an armed and violent suspect, which this gentleman certainly
4:08 pm
qualified as both, they don't have to, either stare down the barrel of that weapon and wait until there's a muzzle flash. >> no sacramento police officers were involved in the shooting, and no officers were hurt. now, the shooting is under investigation by oakland police as well as the alameda county da's office. and the two officers who fired their guns are on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice. >> obviously, this is going to be examined by the oakland police department, and we know the oakland police department has a brand new police chief who doesn't start, though, for about a month or so. how is his start going to sort of factor into this investigation? >> yeah, floyd mitchell will inherit this case as soon as he comes in. he's going to make sure that he has all the answers to these questions for all his bosses, including the mayor shengtao, the oakland police commission, and, of course, the federal monitor. i should remind you guys, the one of the former police chiefs, ann kirkpatrick, did get into some hot water with the monitor over another deadly
4:09 pm
police shooting. so chief mitchell has to make sure that this investigation is properly looked into. >> yeah, and it's curious. i'm curious, were the officers wearing their cameras? meaning, was the shooting caught on video? >> yes. these are two patrol officers. both their cameras were working, and i'm told that there was even a drone up in the sky. so that will also be reviewed. >> all right, henry lee, with the latest on this investigation. thank you. henry. coming up here on the four this afternoon, 12 jurors sworn in for the historic hush money trial of former president trump. up next, here on the four, we're live with an expert to talk about the lengthy process to find these jurors and the obstacles that may lie ahead in this case. >> would you take a look at that? isn't that just glorious? but drizzle back in the forecast. i'll show you where and when with your b area

in the distance there, but a lot of blue skies and nice warm temperatures today. meteorologist roberta gonzales here. now to tell us what we have in store as we look toward the weekend. >> okay, alex, you were talking about those clouds, right? do you know what those clouds mean? >> what they what they mean, what they signal, what they indicate. yeah, i would guess that we're going to cool things off just a little bit. >> yeah. you know. yeah. >> all right. >> got it. oh, boy. you really put me on the spot there. >> roberto, drop the mic. yeah, just a tad, because those clouds will move in towards the horizon and cast a shadow instead of the brilliance of sunshine. but what i was kind of alluding to is those clouds actually mean that there's something out there. there's something out over the eastern pacific, and that's what's going on right now. and we will share that with you. but we just wanted you to get a good gander of the skyline of san francisco. we're currently it is 60 degrees now in san francisco, was at 70 degrees at 11 a.m, but
4:13 pm
we started to see the marine air the air on top of the marine layer. that's sitting off the coast. and that's why the temperature has dropped. a good ten degrees in about five hours, 76 degrees at this hour in santa rosa. check it out. 55 in half moon bay to 80 degrees apiece in napa and in fairfield. it's now in the mid 70s around willow glen, cupertino, campbell, los gatos and saratoga. the winds have been increasing and for the most part, southwesterly 10 to 15. and this will be the scenario for the next couple of hours. but the winds have picked up around that san bruno gap at sfo 22mph. we do have right now a 70 mile per hour wind at mineta international airport and under 20 still in mountain view. but these winds are ushering the pollen. it is airborne. and if you're suffering from allergies and who isn't anymore, it's because of the oak and the mulberry tree count that is on the medium to high side. it lowers a little bit tomorrow
4:14 pm
with slightly cooler temperatures. now meanwhile, the grass count is between low and medium. so here it goes. here are the clouds. alex was alluding to. he was referring to these clouds that are sweeping in towards the bay area. and you notice they're all associated with this weak trough out here. it kind of broke away from the main energy out over the eastern pacific. and here's the core with a cool, unsettled air mass. don't worry, your weekend will be storm free. now. meanwhile tonight it will become mostly cloudy with those high, thin cirrus clouds overhead. in addition to the deepening marine layer that pushes onshore and this marine layer is going to squeeze out a few raindrops or drizzle along the immediate seashore around san francisco and into the north bay as well. now, meanwhile, tomorrow's daytime high temperatures anywhere from 61 in pacifica to 71 degrees in larkspur and terra linda backing through marin city, as well as in san rafael and san anselmo, 70 degrees in hayward through castro valley and mid 70s and through the tri valley. just a really nice

looking spring day. after the morning, clouds do clear now. meanwhile, there's a baseball game in town tonight at 645. our giants are playing host to the arizona diamondbacks. he's a right hander. it's logan webb. he's on the mound for the good guys. temperature will be 58 degrees a bit of a breeze. you know the drill by now right? christina and alex dress in in layers if you're going out to the ball game. >> sounds good. roberta. thank you. >> all right. up next here on the for this afternoon end of an era. well certainly feels like it for the golden state warriors after a disappointing end to the season. they didn't make the playoffs. but we'll explore whether this is really the end for this team that we have come to love. up next here we'll hear from the gm of the warriors and we'll talk with an expert about

doc? in new york. today marked day three of the historic proceedings. seven men and five women have been selected as jurors. they include a sales professional, a software engineer, an english teacher and several lawyers. one juror, who was dismissed during the selection process, described walking into the courtroom to see the former president. >> everybody was shocked when we saw him on tuesday for the first time, you know, we couldn't believe that that was the case, so we were shocked and frozen.
4:19 pm
>> the jury selection now moves into choosing alternates. the former president is accused of covering up a hush money payment to adult film star stormy daniels. he denies any wrongdoing. >> all right, for more now on how this jury selection process has played out in the trump trial, we're joined by civil rights attorney adante pointer. adante. it's great to have you on. we always appreciate the time. look, there were some people who thought that it potentially could take a couple of weeks to seat a jury in this case and find people who would be willing to be impartial in the case. are you surprised at how quickly we have seen 12 jurors seated here? >> it is a bit surprising. you know, this is a case that has high visibility. obviously, it includes the former president and he has a lightning rod of a personality and reputation. so pretty surprising that the attorneys were were able to weed out those people who expressed an open bias and a difficulty in remaining neutral and being willing to listen to the evidence. >> well, you kind of said it there. i mean, the former
4:20 pm
president is very well known, and i feel like it may be difficult to find a jury that is impartial. how do you go about making sure that people can remain impartial in this trial? >> well, you know, the court is going to give any juror or their alternate a lot of rules that they have to abide by not doing any independent research, not discussing it with family, friends or coworkers or even other jurors, but that they must just listen to the evidence that's presented in court and kind of block out and ignore any other outside influences or information, which could be pretty tough. all of these jurors, essentially, even though they're not being sequestered, they have to do it on their own. so those are some of the things that the court will try to ensure takes place so that the former president gets a fair trial, from the standpoint of being an attorney, you will obviously likely have some jurors who will say when they're asked the question during voir dire whether, you know that they can be and they believe they can be fair and impartial. but obviously, as an attorney,
4:21 pm
you're trying to judge whether they are telling the truth. are there are there things that you look for to, to get an idea about whether this person can, in fact be a fair and impartial juror? >> certainly you're always trying to read the tea leaves as an attorney. and one of the things that was done here is the prospective jurors were given a questionnaire asking them about all manner of things, be it, different, causes that they may have donated for. are they affiliated or members of different groups? you're trying to figure out if this person has any political leanings or ideological beliefs that might drive their decision versus the evidence that's brought into the trial. on top of that, when you're doing voir dire as an attorney, you're asking questions and you're trying to read body language, and you're really looking for people who are going to be, upfront and straightforward with their beliefs that way, you can weed those people out that you don't want on the jury. and ultimately you're left with a jury that hopefully is a fair and impartial jury. but there's always people who try to sneak on the juries by hiding their beliefs, especially in a case
4:22 pm
like this where i would not be surprised if a jury issues a book or releases a book after sitting on this jury. >> okay, i want to talk about the makeup of the jury. yeah, that wouldn't be surprising. but the makeup of the jury here. so we have a sales professional, investment banker, software engineer, security engineer, and english teacher. i mean, we could go on here, but there's also multiple lawyers. do you want lawyers on your jury? >> well, i'm a lawyer myself. i like to think that i would make a good juror, but frankly, both attorneys are going to be looking at who is going to be the leader, the four person of the jury, a person who will be an influencer, which is a popular turn to be used nowadays. we use with social media. but as a trial attorney, you're looking for an influencer in the jury box who's going to lead the rest of the jury as the way towards the verdict that you're looking for? >> yeah. let me ask you a dante about some of the developments today, because along with a seating a 12 person jury and one alternate as well, two jurors were also dismissed for a couple
4:23 pm
of different reasons here. these were folks who had already been seated on the jury yesterday. and i'm curious to get your sense about whether you think we are going to see more jurors dismissed as this case continues to move forward, and how important those alternates are likely to be? >> well, if this case stretches out for, you know, any period of time, an extended period of time, then alternates will certainly come into play, because there's going to be a lot of pressure on this jury, a lot of people who will be looking at them with a microscope to see that they're not running afoul of the guidelines that the judge is going to give them around being impartial, being neutral and not discussing it. and there'll be a lot of research into these people's past histories, like what happened with the two jurors that were dismissed today. so, you know, you're going to see it's potentially that you could see a juror dismissed during trial and an alternate take their place. given the amount of scrutiny there is on these jurors. >> can you give us just your perspective? is it common or rare to see what we saw with these two people dismissed? i
4:24 pm
mean, one of them said they had problems being impartial. the other said that they were concerned about the answers that they gave and whether or not they were truthful for them to actually, you know, speak up and say that is that common or is it rare? >> that's pretty rare that once a person is seated on the jury that they then speak up and say, hey, you know, despite you wanting me, despite me being selected, you know, i'm going to now volunteer to tell you something that likely is going to get me bounced. so that does not happen frequently. however, given the high stakes of this trial and the amount of scrutiny, i imagine these jurors either don't want to have to live under the microscope or they're thinking to themselves, this stuff is going to come out at some point in time. i better just offer it up now before i turn into a scapegoat. >> finally, dante, before we let you go here, you know, sort of moving away from the question of seating this jury here, i understand that after they find alternates, which the judge is hoping to finish that process tomorrow, they may do something called a sandoval hearing, which is where they're going to sort of discuss the scope of the
4:25 pm
questions that that president, former president trump could be asked if he were to take the stand in this case, just sort of looking ahead here, i'm curious, how likely do you think it is that we see former president trump take the stand at this trial? >> well, you know, the decision on whether or not a defendant takes the stand is a critical one that the defendant and their attorneys discuss at nadia ad nauseam and prepare for it. given the president's personality, i suspect that he will take the stand because he thinks that he can explain away what's going on here, which, of course, from his perspective is a political witch hunt. and this is a politically motivated prosecution. so i would not be surprised. and frankly, we've seen he rarely misses or passes by a moment where he can get in front of the cameras and the mic, which is exactly what he would have here with a captive audience to explain his position and his argument. so i expect that he takes it, even though
4:26 pm
the average attorney would tell the defendant you don't need to, nor should you. >> yeah, they certainly would. all right. we appreciate the perspective. adante pointer, civil rights attorney here in the bay area. good to have you on. >> thanks for having me. sure. >> well, next here on the fore, it has been 118 years since one of california's most severe earthquakes. we're live with an expert to talk about how technology has changed and why. some say we

warriors dynasty today. warriors general manager mike dunleavy jr held an end of the season news conference to talk about where the team goes from here. it all ended in embarrassing fashion when the sacramento kings dominated the warriors on tuesday night. in a do or die play in game. speculation is growing about the possibility of off season trades. much of the focus on klay thompson, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. here's the gm on klay's future. >> i mean, the guy's been here a long time. he means so much to the organization. you know, we really, really value him. and so there's nothing that would make me think that he wants to go somewhere else, or we don't want him back. and for that reason, i'm hopeful we can make it happen. but you know, it's a deal. both sides got to be be good with it and we'll work through that. but i think, you know, hopeful and optimistic i am about it. >> all right. for more we are joined now by damon bruce, sports commentator and host of the damon bruce show on youtube.
4:30 pm
damon, great to have you on. always appreciate the time. i know on your show earlier this week you described this as a funeral for the golden state warriors. why do you think this was the end of this incredible era of warriors basketball? >> well, i mean, one of the hallmarks of the era of basketball is running over opponents, and that doesn't quite happen anymore. so you know, i'm not saying that their competitive life cycle is over here. now but it feels like this will be an off season of change. is mike dunleavy jr just said, two sides have to agree on a price point that i think dropped dramatically, not just because of one game in sacramento, but klay thompson's just at a point in his career where you have to look at your bench and you see moses moody and think, is it better that we see, you know, 82 games of what moses has rather than however many games of what klay thompson might have left? and that's just a tough decision to make. it's the harsh realities of professional
4:31 pm
sports. and i do think it's an off season, you know, conundrum that the warriors need to figure out. they can say all these nice things forward facing with cameras in the room. but when they get behind closed doors and talk about this team, they have to acknowledge they have, you know, a getting older or getting expensive player who is coming off serious injuries and just, you know, doesn't look like he's got a lot left at the end of the year. and at the end of the year is what's supposed to matter the most. so it's just harsh realities. father time remains undefeated in sports. >> yeah, no doubt about it. klay had a tough i mean he he has struggled this season. but boy that was a tough game against the kings as he went scoreless there. do you think that this was the last time we have seen the warriors. that was the last time that we watched the warriors big three playing together on the same team. do you believe that klay is going to be moved to another team? >> i think it's going to happen, alex. i do think it's going to happen. i think it might be the best interest of all involved because it's just time to see
4:32 pm
something different. you know, it's been two very disappointing seasons in a row here for the golden state warriors. and they want to see it end differently. and to try to come back with the same formula as it's working less effectively than it has previously. it just feels like something that smart teams try to avoid. and i think the warriors are a smart team and the truth is they have gotten more out of this big three in trio than most sports ever. allow any big three to stick together. it's just been a remarkable run, but it does feel like we're at the end of it. and funeral. yeah, it's dramatic. sure, i said it, but it does feel like not only did the warriors get hit with a loss up in sacramento, they got hit with sort of a look into their future and their future isn't going to ever include them looking younger and more athletic ever again. it's time to have more youthful energy infused in what the warriors are doing. >> absolutely. and we have seen
4:33 pm
some flashes of that. to your point. i mean, we watched jonathan kuminga really come into his own during the season. brandon pisemsky, moses moody, among others here. how do you think the warriors can kind of put those younger players front and center as they move forward? >> well, mike dunleavy did a great job in his first draft with brandon pisemsky and trace jackson davis. and they've got two rookies who played significant roles and i think are going to have a very good off season and get even better. like you said, jonathan kuminga, it's time to flip him the keys and officially make him the second best player on the golden state warriors. if he doesn't wear that crown already. and i think moses moody, gary payton, the second we're going to see these guys back, draymond is going to stay. i really believe that. i don't think they're going to trade him. and i don't think there's any reality where steph curry is flipped for considerable assets. like if you wanted to really talk about rebuilding and getting aggressive there is but one move out there. but it's a bridge too
4:34 pm
far, i think, to even consider for both sides. i think steph is loyal to a fault. i think he understands that ending his career in a golden state warriors uniform would probably bring more value to his legacy than chasing a title in another uniform, so i just don't see that happening. how can you give steph curry the best shot to compete at the end of his career? and i now believe that infusing a little bit more youth and new tricks, not trying to teach the old dog the same tricks or come back with it. anyways, it's time. i think we just got a lot of data points that say it's time. >> yeah, it was. i think as we look back here, damon, you know, warriors fans have to be honest about the fact that for a variety of reasons, it was a really difficult year. we saw the suspensions of draymond green and the drama that surrounded that. we had the sudden death of a beloved assistant coach in dion milojevic as well. and that obviously shook so many people on the team. you had really
4:35 pm
difficult moments for this team. when you look back at this season, obviously you talk about the big three and others, you know, getting getting a little older, maybe moving a little bit slower here. but what do you think went wrong this season? >> i think the original plan, knowing that they have sort of diminished returns on their abilities, was just going to be take care of the ball a little bit better. and jordan poole out, chris paul in was supposed to be very representative of that happening. it didn't really happen. they were still sloppy with the ball and i just think, you know, they're not who they used to be defensively. and if you're not the used to be defensively warriors and the rest of the league plays basketball like you used to really separate yourself from the rest of the league, playing in a style that was new and exciting. now everybody plays like the warriors and they're doing it with with, you know, younger, more athletic players. so i just i, i look at a team that looks in the mirror and knows that it just had a rough year, knows that it just it
4:36 pm
things aren't fitting. you heard kerr all year long talking about it's not connecting. well they got to figure out a way to make it connect again. if it's not connecting with your trusted veterans who are kept around to be the connective piece, then maybe it's time to, you know, move on from the one guy who just by by the circumstances of being a free agent, first man up just went, oh for ten in sacramento in a big game. and that hurts. i think klay thompson it does i understand why they want him back. these guys have had great success together. but it might be time to move on. and that's why i think bob myers got out i don't think he wanted to be the guy who had to make that call that that's a that's a tough call to have to make for the warriors here. >> but you know, it obviously it's been a great run for the warriors. and we you know we have to look back on on all the things they accomplished the championships and it's been been a great time. if this is the end of the era. yeah. damon. >> yeah. i mean unless you were around for all five super bowls, this is the greatest stretch of athletic success that will

this, we are joined by danielle buffet, chief mitigation officer of the california earthquake authority and executive director of the state's residential mitigation program. thanks so much for joining us. thank you. okay, so let's talk about the big one. how concerned are you that people aren't taking it seriously and how soon do you think we could see it? >> feel it. well, it's my job to be concerned. and i am concerned because this is earthquake country and as you said, a near certainty of an earthquake. the size of the northridge earthquake in the next 30 years. so what we need to think is we live in earthquake country and then just move into, okay, so what do i do about that? and what you do about that is you have a plan. that's the first and foremost. you make sure that you look around your house for things that you can, you know, brace so they won't fall on you. you look to have a plan with your family. and then during the earthquake, you know that you're going to drop, cover and hold on. and then you plan what to do after an earthquake. >> okay. let's talk about the reality here of how many homes are at risk. do we know the number and what kinds of homes are vulnerable that could
4:42 pm
benefit from a seismic seismic retrofit. >> right. so what we can do is we can figure out what one particular vulnerability means to, to california because we can use age as a proxy. so the pre 1940 house definitely has this crawl space vulnerability. but you might have it if you're pre 1980 and the vulnerability is that your house is not properly anchored to the foundation and the crawl space walls. those short walls around the crawl space don't have plywood bracing on them. and unfortunately the damage is really significant. it can topple or slide off the foundation. >> so really having the foundation is key. having it retrofitted is exactly it's all done in the crawl space. >> takes about 2 to 3 days on average, $5,200 in the state of california. >> okay. let's talk about what people can do. so you already you kind of already gave us some of those tips, but are there resources available to help people get their homes in shape and ready to go? >> absolutely. so we have a program called earthquake brace and bolt. earthquake brace bolt.com is the website, and we have a grant program that provides up to $3,000 to homeowners to do that, $5,200
4:43 pm
plus earthquake. it's a fantastic program. we've also got a program for the earthquake soft story house. so that's the single family house that has a living space above the garage. okay, those programs registration is not open right now, but people can come to our websites, figure out if they've got that vulnerability, give us their email, we'll let them know when we're open. >> okay. i'd also heard that right here. i want to mention this earthquake brace bolt.com. that's where they can apply for this mitigation program or leave us their email, and we'll let them know when registration is open. >> okay. >> and when how often does that open? >> so we've been opening about once a year. we rely on fema funds. that's what we're giving people. and our registration has been able to be open every year for about 30 to 40 days. we just closed registration in february, but we've got an application in for every opportunity for funding to keep this program going. >> okay. what else should people do to protect themselves? you know, you talked about drop cover. you know, hold on. any other tips that you can give out to people just so they can prepare? >> yeah. well, i think that
4:44 pm
everybody thinks, you know, when the earthquake starts happening, that the first thing i want to do is bolt. and really what you should do is you should be drop covering and holding on. look for that sturdy piece of furniture in the areas that you spend a lot of time on. know exactly, exactly what that furniture is, because you're going to protect yourself from falling objects. i mean, i think we know some of us who have jobs with. >> yeah, that's true. yeah. >> our studio lights here drop, cover and hold on. >> oh my goodness. okay any any final thoughts before we let you go here. >> just you know it's scary, but we live in earthquake country. they don't happen very often. the little ones will remind us that we live in earthquake country. lots of information on our website as well as earthquake country alliance has information. >> yeah. and i was also reading to you said that there's also a shortage in contractors. that's something that people probably didn't even know. >> well, there are enough contractors out there. what we need them to do is come and be on our website and sign up to help people. exactly. sign up to be part of the program. all right. >> janelle lafaye, thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate you. and also,
4:45 pm
hopefully people will sign up to get their homes retrofitted. thank you so much. thank you alex. >> yeah good information there. let's talk about our weather here in the bay area as we give you a live look, looking out toward mount diablo in the east bay here. and we have nice warm temperatures today. but roberta is tracking just a slight cooldown in the temperatures as we move toward the weekend. >> what do you see here? >> that that's the fog. the marine layer rolling in right on cue? >> yes, right on cue. at 11 a.m. this morning, it was 70 degrees in san francisco. then the fog started to lurk offshore. and as it did so, the temperature dropped. and i'll share that with you. but see, all these clouds? and above it you could see the high, thin cirrus clouds above mount diablo. and this satellite imagery confirms that first off, you have the bank of cloudiness lining the immediate seashore. then you have these high, wispy, thin cirrus clouds. those are always an indication that they're associated with something happening out over the eastern pacific. generally, a trough. and that's what you have
4:46 pm
right here. this kind of is a weak trough that looks like it broke off from that main energy. don't worry. that system out there is not going to affect your weekend. meanwhile, take a look at the winds. they're up to 22mph at sfo along the peninsula and into the city of san francisco and this is why we did have that dramatic cooldown, a 15 mile per hour wind right now in mountain view. otherwise 13. in napa, the winds are up to ten in santa rosa, and these winds are going to be very typical throughout the evening hours out of the southwest, 10 to 15mph, currently 78 degrees, and throughout the tri valley and also walnut creek, alamo and backing through danville. it is 64 at sfo, all the way through san mateo into redwood city. it is 75 degrees in throughout san jose and also in cupertino. these temperatures take a look at them around the central bay here, anywhere between 5 and 11 degrees cooler. at this hour. the only places warmer at this hour at 4:00 happens to be

livermore and in concord. high pressure bringing us the very lovely spring like weather and even above average temperatures. it's getting overridden by those clouds so you can anticipate with the fog bank, it's going to squeeze out a little bit of drizzle tonight overnight in throughout your friday morning along the coastal areas. otherwise it's going to be a really decent spring like day. just a couple of degrees cooler than it was today. and steady temperatures for your weekend. in fact, we're going to go ahead and put it in writing for you. cloudy, foggy and drizzly tonight, especially along the immediate seashore. it will be cooler and breezy than a fog bank for your friday morning, but sunny and then your weekend. no storms. it will be sunny and pretty steady as far as your temperatures 40s and 50s tonight for overnight lows. how about 51? in union city and in fremont 52 degrees overnight and throughout brisbane and daly city. tomorrow's temperatures coming down just ever so gently. you probably won't even notice the difference unless you're next to the coast. and here we

go with a look at your weekend. when's the last time you've seen sunshine on your saturday and sunday? and these temperatures slightly above normal? we are talking about rain, alex and christina, but that won't happen until next weekend. >> all right, well, we're going to worry about that then. yeah. and for now, we'll enjoy that sunny weekend. roberta. thank you. much more news. headed your way this afternoon here on the four. but first we want to check on the roads and we'll take you outside to look at the east shore freeway here. coming from emeryville into berkeley in the eastbound direction, especially here, it is really backed up this afternoon. >> and a car goes over the side of highway one at devil's slide this afternoon. it tumbled 200ft down a cliff. rescuers did move in quickly, but it was too late. coming up at five more on that attempted rescue and the problems. it's causing on highway one. >> also a big retail theft bust in the south bay, $150,000 worth of stolen goods recovered. but those accusations of theft, just the beginning for the suspects.

>> 3d printing is ushering in a new era of race cars. at his headquarters in england, mclaren racing is using more than 20 3d printers to create various prototype parts for its formula one vehicles. >> the technology has moved on a lot in terms of its material properties, the size of which components can be grown. >> formula one cars require many special pieces in order to be assembled. the front wing alone, which helps control air flow around the vehicle, takes roughly 10,000 parts to be completed. >> some of the components to jig a front wing are 3d printed. it's a very efficient way of making complex parts. >> given all this intense work, the printers are more than just a fancy trend with one human input of a program, you get multiple parts of a build, so it's very time efficient for

human labor because it essentially runs lights out. besides saving valuable time, the printers can create the parts with recycled materials, helping to combat waste and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. having the ability to print 100% recycled filament with their new software, openthum is really a change for the industry. efforts like these could help the sport of formula one achieve its goal of being net zero by 2030. by 2026, officials add. all f1 cars will be using sustainable fuel. gary baumgarten, fox news, ktvu, fox two news at five starts now. >> and now at five, a trio of suspects behind bars on charges including kidnaping and torture. neighbors say the scene of the alleged crimes was well known to the community in the middle of the night, when you hear the sounds of, you know, speaker,
