and a police pursuit that started in napa ends in a crash along oakland's lakeshore avenue and a town hall meeting underway. right now, tackling refinery safety after a series of flare ups in the east bay. >> this is ktvu fox two news at 730. >> and good evening, everyone. i'm heather holmes residents in san francisco's inner richmond district are calling for safety improvements after a car plowed right into a bus stop, leaving a man seriously hurt. now, this comes just a week after a similar crash killed an entire family and the west portal neighborhood. ktvu christian captain has more now for us from san francisco. >> this bus stop at fulton and funston is a busy one. often crowded with passengers waiting for the five. on saturday, this red nissan hopped the curb, bringing down a pole that in turn struck a man waiting for the bus. >> coincidentally, they happened to hit the pole first, right? otherwise they would just plowed right into the bus shelter, just

like at west portal. >> susan rivera lives across the street and rushed to help. >> and i'm a nurse, so i run out. so by the time i get over here, i see a police officer and other people moving this large pole out of the way and underneath that, i saw a man laying on the ground. >> fortunately, that man survived the collision and was treated at a hospital. rivera says neighbors have been warning the city for years that vehicles travel too fast on this stretch of road and say there are crashes here frequently. rivera says this latest crash comes on the heels of that deadly crash in west portal, which killed all four members of a young family. and she says it simply too much. she and neighbors want to see metal poles around bus shelters to protect them. >> we need ballers around these bus stops and around these dangerous intersections, there's lots of things we can do to help mitigate, some of these, these crashes from happening, and we need them now. >> the intersection of this latest crash lies in supervisor

connie chan's district. she says many of these crashes are preventable. and she says she's working to improve safety on streets in her district. it's a reason why i have funded a district one, for the richmond mobility study to redesign safety in the richmond for pedestrians, cyclists and transit riders. san francisco state senator scott wiener is taking things a step further, saying, if speed is the cause of so many of these dangerous and deadly crashes, the time has come. he says. to restrict that speed. >> we also have a technology now called speed governors that that physically limits how fast you can drive. we're proposing legislation that would not allow people to go more than ten miles an hour over the speed limits. >> the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the crash here at fulton has been cited. meanwhile, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding that deadly collision in west portal is still underway, including

mechanical tests and blood work on the driver. at this point, still no word if the driver in that west portal case will be charged. in san francisco, christien kafton ktvu fox two news. >> we're getting more information about a police chase that ended in a crash in oakland late this afternoon along lakeshore avenue. police say it started in napa around 4 p.m, when officers tried to pull over four people suspected of robbing a lululemon store. the highway patrol took over the pursuit, which went from napa county, over the carquinez bridge and into oakland. the chp says it offers its officers backed off the chase, and the vehicle was then tracked by helicopter. skyfox was over the crash around 540 this evening, and you can see investigators unloading piles of clothes from that car. it's unclear at this point what caused the crash. four people, though, were arrested so far, no word of any injuries. policeinse shootinghat happened in san francisco. offers were called to a home on dwight street in san bruno avenue around 845 last

night, where they found two adults who had been shot and killed. they've been identified as police by police sources as oscar and florinda picasso. their relationship is not yet known. we talked with one man, though, who lives in the neighborhood, and he says, although it's normal to hear some police activity, he could tell that something was wrong last night i just heard a different sirens coming over a 15, 20 minute period. >> you know, different types. i think one was a the police cars, obviously, and then another was probably an emergency vehicle. sirens are a little different after the third time hearing that you're going, well, something's going on. so i just stuck my head out, but i didn't realize it was so close. >> no arrests have been made and it's not clear police are looking for any suspects. they're asking though anyone with information to please give them a call. a town hall meeting on refinery safety is underway tonight. it's hosted by east bay congressman mark desaulnier. the meeting in martinez tonight comes after a number of recent flare ups and other incidents at refineries in contra costa county that have raised some

concerns about public safety. a number of agencies are at the meeting, including contra costa health and the bay area air quality management district. as well as the u.s. chemical safety board. we will have an update on tonight's meeting coming up tonight on the 10:00 news. so be sure to tune in for that. and new at 730 tonight. fire officials in richmond today gave the all clear after residents complained of a stronodor of gas or propane. firefighters respded this morning to that area around kaiser richmond medical center on nevin avenue.e department determined there was no cause for concern, and they deemed that area safe. the chp has issued an ebony alert for a teenager who was last seen more than a month ago in east palo alto. authorities tonight searching for 16 year old anaya maxey. she was last seen february 24th at about 10 p.m. police say she may be in alameda, sacramento, los angeles or orange counties. anaya is five foot one and about 110 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. anyone with

information is asked to call the chp or 911. more than 450 seton medical workers started a two day strike in daly city this morning. the workers say they are underpaid by bay area standards, and they also say their own health insurance is inadequate. seton officials say union employees, though, rejected a proposed contract that included a 16% pay raise over three years and free medical benefits for employees and their families. >> the fight mostly is about better health care for people who work in a hospital for them and their families. >> if nih is ready to come to the negotiating table now, we're ready to negotiate with them. it's on their side of the court now. >> the workers contract expired back in december. seton says the hospital remains open during the two day strike, with replacement workers. nurses who work for santa clara county say they plan to go on strike next week. the three day strike is set to begin april 2nd and end on the fourth.

the nurses say they want better pay, patient safety and an increase in staffing levels. county health officials say they will do their best to minimize disruptions to health care services during that strike. we have an update tonight on a story that we first brought you right here last week about a homeless woman whose vehicle was towed and she was facing thousands of dollars in fines. well, that oakland mother now has her car back. it's a car that she says she and her two children have been living out of recently. ktvu crystal bailey joins us now with an update on this story. crystal. >> well, heather, jade burnette says she lives in her car with her 17 year old autistic son and her nine year old daughter. opd finally released her car last week, but when she got it back, it had some significant damage that she could not afford to fix. i spoke with her about that situation, and it has taken a village of people helping her ever since. >> thank you. >> yeah, he's been really great. we're happy. yeah, we're happy to help. >> jade burnette finally has her

car back a month after she says her home was towed away. opd says her registration was expired, and they brought it to storage until she could provide proof that it was updated. >> i'm relieved to have it out of there. >> with the help of oakland reverend ken chambers, the storage fees were paid through what opd calls their victim tow fund. >> once the story aired, we really got some movement and they waived 4000. just about $4,000 worth of fees for jade. we're so appreciative of that. >> but she says when she arrived to pick it up, it didn't look how she left it. >> i cried because there's pieces missing off of my car. >> she says two of her tires were flat and the driver's side window was smashed. >> all this was it was just hanging. you can see down below. >> but the community is not leaving her hanging. after our story aired on ktvu last week, we received multiple calls and emails from members of the public who wanted to help burnette get her car back. and here at fat cat tires, the owner

donated two tires to get her back on the road, helping others that are not as fortunate as us or need a helping hand. >> you know, if we all did that a little bit more might be in a different place. >> it's not clear how the damage was done to the 2008 pontiac vibe. oakland police tell me, according to the tow report, the tires were flat before the car was towed. the report does not indicate a broken mirror or smashed window. >> i watched how they they picked the cars up with the forklift and they were shaking these cars. >> an opd spokesperson tells me the victim tow fund is for uninsured victims of crime, not specifically for people who may be living out of their cars. >> the hope is that all this is that the city of oakland, the county of alameda, come together and create a fund so that this does not happen. >> and chambers says as soon as the car is fully repaired, he's going to let burnette park at his secure church parking lot in west oakland as part of his safe car park program for the unhoused, an opd spokesperson tells me that burnette can file a complaint with their victim specialist about the condition

suit brought by elon musk against a group of group critical of the billionaire. musk had filed that suit against the center for countering digital hate, which had accused musk of promoting hate speech on his x platform formerly known as twitter. musk claimed the group labeled anything it didn't agree with as hate speech, which he says cost x millions in advertising dollars. in his ruling, the judge said that musk was trying to punish the group for exercising free speech. it was a big weekend for a teenager from tracy, who was invited to speak at the state capitol about suffering from a cardiac arrest at school at age 13. heather freely spoke at the heart ball, hosted by the american heart association. she helped to raise $250,000 at the event. last fall, heather collapsed in class. her friend called 911 while her teacher began cpr. and today on the four, i spoke to heather, her dad and that friend who sprang into action to help. >> it was a miracle that i was saved and now i'm an ambassador

temperatures during the overnight hours will be chilly. here's a look at the current conditions where we have 53 in san francisco, mid 50s in oakland where the game is going on, and 53 right now in livermore, we get into the week ahead with the dry weather tomorrow and then wet weather returning as early as wednesday, 3:00 in the afternoon on the time stamp there and you can see the scattered showers are beginning to develop. so we may start out mainly dry, but we'll transition back to the wet weather wednesday afternoon. right now, thursday looks to be sort of an in-between day. we may actually have mainly dry weather calling for just scattered showers during the morning hours, but by friday that changes once again. and saturday also looks to be pretty soggy. right now it looks like the core of the storm wants to shift towards southern california and leave us with mainly dry weather in time for sunday. for those that will be celebrating easter temperatures for tomorrow morning. under partly to mostly cloudy skies, 49 degrees in san francisco, a chilly 40 in santa rosa.

really explicit examples of sexual harassment, but you also have the smaller, more insidious examples of microaggressions, microaggressions can show itself in very small ways, like the woman always being asked to take meeting notes or being asked to order snacks for the office, or being asked to organize happy hours. >> kyla says the book mirrors her own journey. she, too, left her fashion job at vogue and moved to silicon valley to work in tech. new at 730 tonight, a new proposal is now in the works to redevelop a marin county shopping mall. the city of san rafael wants to use the land where the northgate mall sits for a project that includes a mix of new homes, shops and restaurants on the 45 acre site just west of highway 101. however, the developer has submitted a new plan that would increase the number of potential homes from about 1400 to more than 1900. this new plan also changes where some of the proposed townhomes and mixed use buildings would be positioned.

okay, drivers will soon be paying more to cross one of the world's most famous bridges, the golden gate bridge district has voted to approve the plan to bump up tolls another $0.50 starting july 1st. fast track customers will be paying 9.25 to cross the bridge under the toll increase plan that was approved yesterday. tolls would then increase $0.50 every july until the year 2028. the district says the higher tolls are needed during the next five years to offset a projected $220 million deficit. still ahead tonight, what experts are saying about these blue jellyfish like creatures that washed up on a north bay beach and then later tonight on the 10:00 news, the a's are hosting the giants. as we mentioned in the latest edition of the bay bridge series, we're going to hear from fans in what could be the final season that these teams, these two teams, play each other as bay area teams. and then the san jose police department selects an interim chief. the storied career he's had with the force. th e stor
