later tonight, dozens of loved ones and community members gathering in the park where he was killed,c announcing a new memorial to honor his memory. >> we are announcing that we are moving forward, and we actually going to be building a memorial for alex. >> alex nieto was 28 years san francisco police officers, after they say he pointed a stun gun at them. those officers were eventually cleared of any wrongdoing. good evening everyone. i'm mike mibach and i'm julie julie haener. >>c at the time, his death sparked protests and accusations of excessive force. ktvu zac sos attended the vigil. he nieto's e

at theúpark about a suspicious person with a gun and a holster. police say nieto drew a weapon from his hip and pointed it at officers. that's when police opened fire. the weapon nieto had was a stun gun he carried for his job as a security guard. >> we see their resistance. we see the resilience and they inspire us. >> at the time, the shooting sparking protests and a federal civil rights lawsuit about police use of force. but a jury ultimately found the officers not guilty of any wrongdoing. they do feel that the system has failed them. ñ> they still do not have justice. >> prior to the shooting, the park, a special place for alex, their son, introduced them to this place and showed him the ty to remember their son and say prayers at the altar. >> for years, a temporary memorial of stones has been in place to honor him, but his parents have always wanted to do more. >> we are announcing that we are

seeing one of the last photos taken of a family right before they were killed in san francisco. >> the picture shows parents diego and matilda. their toddler son, joaquim, and six month old baby kalia. the family of four was killed after an suv crashed into them at a bus stop in west portal, while they were on their way to the zoo. woman accused of driving into the family is custody. and as ktvu alice wertz reports, we did learn today that the organs of the youngest victim were donated to help save the lives of other children. >> as the scene of the tragedy continues to fill up with flowers, cards, candles and stuffed animals, investigators are likely determining what charges, if any, are warranted for the driver responsible. lynette thompson is a recently retired firefighter who lives just up the block from the scene. she shared how sorrowful the community is reading a card that a child left. this shouldn't have happened. >> you know, i'm really sorry. and she's like, i hope you're happy in heaven and that you're

between israel and hamas right now. us secretary of state haver weeks trying to broker a cease fire deal between israel and between sides have narroweds and an agreement is getting closer now. tomorrow, the secretary of state is headed to israel. the us is also calling for a vote in the united nations . declaring a cease fire is imperative to deliver humanitarian aid. the council on american islamic relations sent a letter ofúcomplaint to the mayor of san bruno,úaccusing the city of targeting and intimidating muslims who were attending a city council meeting. ktvu jana katsuyama joins usúlive tonight from san bruno with the story. jenna >> mike i did try and reach thee at city hall, but so far we haven't had any response from. they were here for their weekly rally, and they explained to me

some of the reasons why they sent that letter. hegs flying now outside san bruno city hall. residents of palestinian descent and their allies rallied with signs and calls for a gaza ceasefire thursday. >> san bruno has one of the largest palestinian communities in the peninsula, much a part oe and lifestyle here of the city. butc now the cease fire group is upset, saying the city targeted and intimidated some of their members during ramadan. >> at a march 12th city council meeting, the council on american islamic relations, known as cair, sent a letter this week to san bruno's mayor, ricardo medina. it states that the city refused their request to let the group break their ramadan fast in the lobby of the san bruno senior center outside the room where the city council was meeting. >> we had brought some food to t quickly break our fast when we put ourústuff on the table, the chief of police came over and asked us to move all of the foo&

in bay area politics. state senator aisha wahab, who represents the bay area's district ten, was the first elected to public office in the u.s. in 2018. ktvu lamonica peters tells us more about wahab's personal journey and ho. lamonica >> julie. women enter politics

for a number of reasons, and state senator wahab says it was the state's housing crisis that pushed her to get involved. race inc the east bay state senator aisha wahab says father to serve the community. she was a guest speaker at a dinner event for carpenter, local 713 members thursday night. >> my father is very big in community service, right? so anything that we can do. so since we were kids, i was the one who was doing blanket drives and coat drives during winter afghanistan and so forth. so i've always had that kind of spspirit of like community service. >> bornc in new york city, wahab says she and her sister spent time in foster care before being adopted by a couple in the bay area. she says listening to people in hayward and her own family talk about rising rent costs and other issues moved her to run for hayward city council. >> you name it, we worked on it

and people say you can't do it because you don't have that much time, or it's four years or spyou're supposed to go slow. n, it's actually whoever's in that seat can pushúthe agenda, right? can push the policy reforms. tend tob says women in general directly impact people's lives. menlo college political science professor melissa michaelsen also says women now have more support when running for political officen more and more women are being backed up by organizations and groups that say, hey, we want to support you to run becauseúone of the things we know isc that men nominate themselves, but women tend to have to be recruited and asked. wahab says she,útoo, was recruited to run for a state senate seat as march voting primary results are being counted, analysts predict that for the first time in california history, 53% of the senate may be comprised of women. >> it's about time, right? and even though we have more and
