about patient care, and five students in the north bay taken to the hospital and more than a dozen others were sickened. mystery behind what caused that ordeal coming up, this is ktvu, fox two news at 730, a emergency response teams evacuated a room full of students at a napa high school after dozens fell sick during class. good evening everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. officials say there's still no clear explanation as to what caused it all. ktvu is crystal bailey joins us now with more on that crystal. well, frank, it's truly a mystery to health and safety officials who say 25 students at vintage high school were feeling sick this morning. >> but after checking the air quality and looking for evidence of a gas leak, everything came up clear. it was first period students had just settled into choir class when some of them started feeling sick. the fire department was called and the students were relocated away from the music room. >> we had a total of 25 patients

that needed to be assessed that were all complaining of symptoms of nausea, headache, and fatigue. the schools put on lockdown and five students were taken to the hospital. >> pg and e also responded to the hazmat call, napa police saying all parents of the six students were notified and asking parents to stay away from the building while they worked. but but officials say they checked for carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide and inspected the hvac system, even looked for evidence of drug. >> we didn't find anything. no readings on our monitors. pg and e found nothing either. so we're still at a loss as to what caused this. >> the lockdown was lifted and students returned to class later in the day, and napa county says it's monitoring the situation closely with the school district. as soon as officials can identify a cause, they say they will provide an update. crystal bailey, ktvu, fox two news thank you crystal, the identities of the family members killed in that san mateo murder suicide have been confirmed now

by the police. >> authorities confirm the dead as father anand henry. mother alice pensinger and their twin four year old boys. investigators responded to the home on monday after a relative said they couldn'trillioneach anyone for days. parents were found dead with gunshot wounds. although the exact cause of the death of the two boys does remain unclear, initial investigation suggests s anad henry as the suspect, and a reminder that if you or someone you know is in need of help, there is a national hotline where support is available 24 hours a day. that number is simply 988. a vallejo police officer has been arrested and currently being held without bail. ktvu learned that officer ronald dupree is accused of domestic violence making criminal threats and stalking. dupree had previously received awards for his involvement in making arrests for dui and stolen cars. the police department says officer dupree is on paid leave for an ongoing

personal matter. today, lawmakers introduced the california retail theft reduction act. it would keep repeat offenders in custody and increase jail time for suspects identified as professional retail thieves. lawmakers say retail crime is a high stakes issue, and it's not just bad for businesses. >> it also undermines safety and the perception of safety in our communities. and when retailers close their doors without replacing with out equivalent replacements, those locations become dead zones. workers lose their jobs and areas become blighted, and entire neighborhoods suffer. >> this new package adds to the list of 15 to 20 proposed bills that intend to address retail crime. the act would not require voter approval. each element of the bill could be enacted by the governor or the legislature. executives at regional medical center say they're closing the hospital's trauma center this summer. ktvu south bay reporter

jesse gary uncovers the reasons behind the closing and the impact it will have on patient care. >> we are very disappointed to let you know that we are no longer able to provide trauma, stemi or comprehensive stroke services in our community. >> thursday, executives at regional medical center announcing shifting demand for service has doomed its level two trauma center, currently, the hospital's e.r. outpaces capacity, so executives are investing $10 million to expand the number of e.r. beds from 43 to 63. >> i'm glad to hear that they're committing to a $10 million investment in expanding the number of beds and services in the emergency room, but we don't ever want to see life saving medical services cut, particularly in our lower income neighborhoods. >> no one ever gets into the profession of taking care of people and thinking that they're not going to be able to do that, not be able to do their job. >> four year registered nurse melissa gong says there were rumors of the trauma centers

needing a lifeline. now, she worries for east san jose residents, who will have to travel across town to valley medical center in west san jose, or 15 miles north to stanford medical center in palo alto, depending on what time of day you're having. >> your medical emergency, you could be stuck in 15 to 45 minutes of traffic to get to the nearest hospital. >> experts say hospitals and the entire health care industry is under the same economic pressures as other types of businesses, and that is forcing pragmatic decisions. >> of course, health care is a business and they need to keep their lights on. and if services could be better provided for emergency basis as opposed to a stemi or a trauma center and reallocation of resources is necessary, that's probably mostly a financial decision that's also backed by the numbers, with about six months to go, it's not an easy waiting game to see how the latest waves of change will impact those dependent on services. >> on the east side of san jose, we are providing the appropriate

services that our community needs. some members of the california nurses association say they're going to fight the closing of the trauma center, with actions such as pickets, to try to force management to change its mind. in the south bay bureau, jesse gary, ktvu, fox two news, sfo has received $31 million in federal funding to make improvements to their internal national terminal. >> today, the faa and the biden administration announced nearly $1 billion in grants from the bipartisan infrastructure law for airports across the country. the money sfo received will be used to replace heating and cooling systems inside that international terminal. that terminal opened back in 2000 and is now dealing with aging infrastructure, and the city of oakland is taking steps to improve its waterfront along the embarcadero. mayor shang tao says city is awarded a $25 million contract to reconnect communities in west oakland. chinatown and downtown back to the waterfront. the plan is a

case. >> i might have to stay home. yeah >> what do people say. pack your patience right. yes yes i heard that. yeah. so yeah here we talk. we're going to talk about the sierra. this was the scene today. they actually had about a good foot of snow with the recent advisory. you just saw the graphic from the web a few seconds ago. this is a more details of winter weather advisory begins 10 a.m. saturday until 4 a.m. sunday. okay. no big deal with that advisory. 6 to 12in. but that could still impact travel. and then the bigger deal will be late sunday, right on through wednesday morning. snowfall potentially could be around 2 to 4ft. so the way home from the sierra on monday, that could be the challenge. so storm series continues next system on saturday a stronger storm by sunday night and into monday, and rain continues into tuesday and wednesday. here is the forecast models we put this into motion. here is the saturday deal. and that sunday one, especially by sunday night really moves in. that will pack some heavier rain and some stronger winds. and then this could continue into tuesday and possibly into wednesday of next week. so it's a very active weather pattern headed our way. and as a result we have some big rainfall totals from saturday

through tuesday. the coastal hills up in the north bay could be over six inches. a place like san francisco could be approaching three inches, and up in the north bay could be around 4 to 5in. so we'll definitely have to keep it on the creeks and the streams. we'll probably have some urban and small stream flood advisories kick in over the next few days. now, right now we just have the clouds in place. here's our live camera looking above us out toward the golden gate bridge and current numbers. in the 50s, san francisco right now 55. oakland 54 degrees tomorrow is somewhat of a break. mostly cloudy skies and some patchy fog to start. things off tomorrow. and a heads up if you are heading to the coast over the next several days. we will have big waves, so a high surf advisory is in place. this weekend. we potentially could have waves around 15 to 20ft this weekend. so here's the storm track. tomorrow is our break day. it's a mild friday and then into saturday our next system and that strongest one we're watching into monday. so here we go tomorrow. just lots of clouds moving in. the rain comes on board saturday. this could be heavy at times in your saturday

forecast. and then later in the day sunday. the chance of some rain. sunday morning. but we begin to bump up those rain chances by sunday afternoon, and especially into a sunday night. so here's a look ahead. it's mild tomorrow we get prepare for the storms for later saturday and then into sunday. it looks pretty wet into early next week, frank. all righty marc thank you for that. >> a bay area lawmaker is proposing a new bill to make sure that state bridges stay free for pedestrians and cyclists alike. the legislation would introduce this morning by assembly member phil ting, along with some other supporters. the bill would permanently ban tolls for pedestrians and cyclists on all of our state owned bridges, including the golden gate bridge, a move to charge pedestrians isn't unprecedented, by the way. in fact from 1937 to 1970, pedestrians actually paid to cross the bridge at a time when we're dealing with climate change and we're trying to get encourage more people to walk, more people to bike, i can't think of a greater disincentive for that than actually charging

a toll for pedestrians. >> and cyclists. across one of the most famous bridges in our world assembly man tang says lawmakers need to work on a better long terme fix than tolls. >> the bill is headed to committee and could be on the governor's desk in september. in san francisco, small businesses along taraval street say they're hurting due to an ongoing construction there, but help is on the way. today, the city announced $1 million in grants for merchants that have been impacted by the l taraval improvement project. the mayor of london, breed supervisor joel engardio, met with the business owners this week to discuss the new relief initiative, the l taraval improvement project, expected to be completed sometime in the fall. well, the a's attempted to cut a temporary deal to continue playing at the coliseum before possibly moving to las vegas. we're going to hear from the commissioner of baseball, plus the giants

10:00 news. well, a teacher in san jose, a teacher, was known not only for her devotion to the students, but also for her love for sneakers. virginia wright died suddenly last year, and now her family is honoring her in a rather unique way. ktvu san ruben reports. >> ask any sneaker head and they'll tell you this collection is impressive. mostly jordans, many of them rare. >> these shoes that she's got are really special. they're all retros. they're all limited edition products. >> the collection belonged to virginia wright, aka sp gina, a beloved san jose school teacher and unlikely influencer. this was gina back in 2019, and they go, we're going to get you your own shoe. >> and my first response was, right, sure. you know, i didn't believe them. >> it was unheard of. but area based retailer shoe palace and jordan brand created a special sneaker just for gina. she's the only non-celebrity to ever get one. gina found the sneakers
