live reports every day up until joe fonzi.s going out even earlier. all right, all right. thank you. jesse next at 11, it was clear that the intensity of these attacks was different over the next few hours, we would learn together the enormity of the massacre in the south. it has been nearly four months since hamas fighters attacked israel. many people killed and kidnaped during the raid, leaving survivors with tragic stories. >> the 11:00 news on katie icu fox two starts now. tonight in san francisco, people heard firsthand accounts from that fateful day. >> hello again. i'm cristina rendon and i'm mike mibach at the congregation. >> emanuel, two survivors shared their harrowing experiences. ktvu alice wertz has their stories of survival. >> elad kadir is 45 years old and a father of four who, with his wife, awoke to the sounds of bombs exploding on saturday morning, october seventh. >> we woke up on saturday at 6:30 a.m. in the morning and to

the sound of alarms, sound of bombs. we didn't know what happened. we were really surprised. >> h. >> so i figured out that he was murdered. and later on i true, e learned later. >> his mother was also killed after he spoke to her on the phone that fateful day. >> after two months, the army told us that she was murdered right after. for me and her spoke on the phone. her body now is in gaza somewhere. nobody knows where. >> mayan barkai and his wife have five children, two of whom were with them when the terrorists came through that same kibbutz. they hid in a bomb shelter. >> we heard the noise of the whoosh that they used to, uh, to burn the house. >> the attacks left hundreds dead. according to the men, some people die when they couldn't breathe, and it went out. >> the terrorists waited outside and killed them when they tried to escape. escape the flames.

>> rabbi beth stein shared. it's important to hear these stories, even though they're traumatic and a world away. there's still a large voice out there saying, oh, that didn't happen. >> so it's really important for all of us to listen to these people who were there, who experienced it. there were a couple of jewish organizations that organized this even are survivors that will be traveling the country and the world sharing their story of survival, of war in the middle east, in san francisco. alice wertz, ktvu, fox two news, the bay area of faith community is reacting to recent vandalism incidents at hindu and sikh temples. >> two temples in hayward and newark were hit with graffiti in december and early january. a fremont sikh temple was also vandalized late last year. faith leaders, elected officials and members of law enforcement came together in union city. today, sikh and hindu leaders say these incidents were intended to sow division between faith communities, as these acts have

rippling effects, they perpetuate misunderstood things. >> they perpetuate hatred. >> let's see the human race as a whole. let's love everyone and see god in all. >> law enforcement officials say they're treating the cases as possible hate crimes. they've also gotten the fbi involved, but they say they have no leads so far. >> new at 11. former california senator barbara boxer is endorsing adam schiff in the race for the late dianne feinstein's senate seat. boxer called schiff a, quote, pragmatic, progressive who is getting things done and, quote, she said she had remained neutral because of her friendship with both schiff and east bay congresswoman barbara lee, who is also running boxer, said she told the candidates if she saw attacks between democrats that she would reconsider making an endorsement, and she said that unwarranted attacks on schiff by katie porter led her to carry out her promise. >> as chp inspectors have classified the shuttle service at uc santa cruz as a danger to public safety following a crash that killed a bus driver. the

accident in december also injured five people on board the cause remains under investigation and independent inspection of the campuses. nine 35 foot shuttles found problems with five of them that led to be pulled out of service. four of the busses had brakes out of adjustment, three had faulty emergency exits at uc santa cruz said in a statement that they are expeditiously addressing the report's findings. a 22 year old man is now in custody for a fatal hit and run that killed an elderly vallejo resident, javon woodard has been arrested for allegedly refusing to stop for vallejo police, then crashing a ford fusion into parked cars, killing 76. year-old russell hawk, who was in between the cars before driving off. this happened back in october near carolina and santa clara, not far from the victim's home. >> a man accused of killing his estranged wife right inside a san francisco church back in 2018 is charged with first degree murder, 41 year old wynn liang is accused of walking into the chinese christian church nearly six years ago, stabbing his wife before then stabbing

himself. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins writing on x today i would like to thank the jury for their service and for delivering justice to the victim's family and friends who. patiently waited to see justice achieved. my office is committed to standing by victims for as long as it takes to ensure accountability, and abusers face consequences. the bay area, experiencing an array of winter weather this week, parts of the north bay seeing flooding and even a funnel cloud. >> ktvu amber lee was in sonoma county today and spoke with residents about this sighting of this unusual phenomenon in. >> this two minute long video was taken thursday morning around 11:00. the sight of a possible tornado in sonoma county is unsettling to the people who live in nearby communities. when they saw the video, no way. >> that is insane. >> it's just a big surprise. i don't think we're used to having tornadoes in this area. >> sonoma county department of emergency management sent a team out thursday afternoon to survey

the area where the funnel cloud was spotted in the small community of two rock, just west of petaluma. the press democrat firstrillioneported. this sighting from a man who took the video from the vantage point of a landfill, we're always, always surprised to see that kind of stuff over land. >> we usually get waterspouts. >> the national weather service, based in monterey county, says it is gathering information with the help of sonoma county to determine if this is a tornado. the video certainly certainly looks convincing that that it's a tornado. >> um, you know, officially, we'll have to call it a funnel cloud until we actually get confirmation that it was doing damage on the ground or that it was, uh, had a ground circulation. >> so far, no damage was found or reported. and the spot where the funnel cloud was located appeared to be near the center of two rock population 900. >> we have more cows and livestock than we do people. we haven't had any reports of any damage done to any structures or any injuries. so in march of 2011, a tornado touched down in

santa rosa, causing damage. >> experts say conditions that precede a tornado could include unstable weather, clouds that have a bubbly formation and scattered thunderstorms. i wouldn't want to be in it. >> people have tornadoes, usually live like they have a basement they can go into. i don't think our california homes are built like that. >> the sonoma county department of emergency management tells me it plans to talk to the person who took the video and come back out here friday to take a second look for evidence. if they find any, they'll be reporting it to the national weather service in two rock in sonoma county. amber lee ktvu, fox two news in the south bay, a massive tree uprooted in los altos today, crashing right in the middle of camelia way near el monte avenue, santa clara county fire responded just before 10:00 this morning, officials reported nearby power lines were down in a fire hydrant was impacted. >> no injuries were reported. the oakland zoo will be open

more like running creeks or rivers. this story beginning tonight's west coast rap. >> more than two inches of rain fell in the city overnight wednesday into today. aerials of a freeway in long beach. so some of the damage with flooded roadways and cars submerged up to their hoods. in some parts. a flood watch remains in effect through tomorrow in the state of arizona, a two year old puppy in need of a home after being rescued from a car. >> now last week, the dog was found wedged deep in the engine of a 1967 chevy nova. she got stuck after chasing a cat. after about 15 minutes, arizona humane society workers and emergency crews were able to pull her to safety. she was checked out by a

coverage prompted them to push back the date to february 9th. they also say that some people may have had trouble getting through to the service center because it was taken offline. that was in response to a cyber security incident affecting a third party vendor that supplies its phone lines. organizers of a long running summer festival in sonoma county say they are canceling the popular event for good. the bodega seafood art and wine festival started 30 years ago there in bodega bay. the organizers say that their expenses have sky rocketed in the past two years. after a two year hiatus during the pandemic. while attendance and income have dropped, they say they have looked for a buyer for the festival, but that also fell through. taylor swift is looking to cash in on a convention created by her fans and named after the singer, and strong, gusty winds, heavy rain throughout the bay area. this week, we'll take a look at how santa cruz county fared and what's ahead for the county this coming weekend.

luckily we have such a great community down here. you know, everybody pulls together customers are enjoying their meals at zelda's in capitola village, but sandbags have been set up outside just in case any unexpectedly high waves crash ashore. >> there were a few trees down and also some minor mudslides that came down on top of roadways during the recent storm. as you can see in these photos provided by santa cruz county. since there was no damage to the actual roadways, though, crews were able to reopen these roads quickly and in downtown santa cruz, the san lorenzo river is flowing with mud and debris washing down from higher elevations. but so far there has been no flooding, and so when the ground gets saturated, we have these very flashy creeks and rivers here in santa cruz county that rise and fall quickly. >> and if there's nowhere for that water to go, they all funnel down into the creeks and we'll see flooding. that's what we were worried about with this recent storm. >> one of the towns, which is most often at the very top of regional rainfall totals is ben lomond so sandbags are ready to go at the

valley church's united operations manager linda meyer, says all of the sand deliveries from earlier in the week went quickly, and she feels residents in this mountain community take the rain and the threat of flooding s storms are expected,, we're not concerned, but we're aware and we prepare so we get our everything charged. >> our phones charged and our little chargers charged and our lanterns charged and we check outside and make sure that there's going to be some kind of runoff. it's blocked with either sandbags or a waddle or something of that sort. so we prepare while the high surf advisory did expire here on thursday afternoon, there is a flood watch remaining in effect until early friday morning. >> and of course, all eyes are on the incoming storm set for later this week. and reporting in capitola. i'm mark sayer, ktvu, fox two news and a 40 foot tree came down around 5:00 this morning onto knoll view way in san francisco. >> this is right near sutro tower. the monterey pine covered

the width of the roadways, scraping the exterior of that house there. luckily, no one was hurt. residents say incidents like this are the costs for much needed water supply. >> we love the rain. we need it. but you know, it comes with these, you know, ramifications, right, of having these beautiful old trees who, you know, just can't take it all. >> also, overnight, a tree came down right onto an apartment building on king street. this is in daly city. no one was hurt here. it's unclear how many people have been displaced by the incident. >> all righty. we are very, very close to the weekend. i know when i have actually, i have friday off, which is cool, but when i didn't have friday off, i still kind of counted friday as a weekend. right. because you're easing into it. so that's how tomorrow is for many of you. and tomorrow is going to be a pretty okay day. not like today or yesterday when we had a lot of showers. yesterday especially overnight. anyway, with the heavy showers. look at these rain accumulations wednesday into thursday. san francisco is. over 2.5in of rain that is significant rain in san francisco. we didn't have more

problems actually, but i think the gutters had been cleaned out because from the last couple storms we've had, it's been pretty wet in the city. they've had a pretty good run of rain, more rain coming. it looks like on sunday i'll show you that. coming up, live camera outside, scattered showers kind of on and off. tonight we had some good heavy rain in san jose about an hour ago. that's going to go kind of kind of hit and miss tonight. and then tomorrow some of it goes through. there might be a scattered shower. kind of like see how it looks now. that's right. now that's not the model. it's kind of this kind of move right. so you see that. you see all the how widely scattered and not organized it is. so there's instability out there in the potential like now exists for this kind of a thing for some scattered showers and even perhaps a thunder shower. we did have we did have a couple today. here's what the model wants to do. there's tomorrow morning. there's tomorrow afternoon soon or tomorrow evening. so you see, and this that's interesting. that could be something, right? that could be a little thunder cell if that transpired. and then saturday morning, saturday afternoon. and then here comes the deal. this guy down here starts to work his way north and that is very interesting. this

one is going to cause all sorts of problems for southern california. and if it transpires if it goes down this way, santa cruz mountains are going to have some significant rain and perhaps some issues on sunday, but we'll watch it closely. lots of this one's really a weird one. it's should be more focused on southern california. the model is a little little over the top on the north, but i think we're going to it's going to be somewhere in between. santa cruz and southern california. i think we for the central bay are going to generally be a little bit north. it doesn't mean i think we'll get some showers on sunday. i just think the heavy, heavy rain, i mean, our la is looking at potentially three four inches of rain and more than that, some of the mountain areas are calling for, you know, 12in of rain, which is you know and i know can cause all sorts of problems. that's over a couple of days, but still a wet period for southern california. if you are going that way. and for us, boy, that was a good storm. it kind of it was it delivered a little less rain than we thought, but still, you know, 2.5in in 24 hours in san francisco is we need it pretty good. yeah >> you're so funny, bill.

>> hey, have a good weekend. yeah you too. okay. >> you're excited. it's yours. it's both sides. >> friday. i know mine, just like you're excited about this rainbow. as bill said, we did have some heavy, isolated pockets of rain today, but overall, really the weather was better compared to yesterday. this afternoon, the sun brought out this beautiful rainbow over the city by the bay. not the only one out there. there were many other rainbows seen across the bay area. >> taylor swift entering her next business era as she files a trademark application for the phrase taylor con, tmz reports she filed the application in tennessee on january 27th. there's already a sold out convention of the same name planned to take over dallas, texas, in march. the event is not associated with taylor herself. it is run entirely by swifties senior news producer at tmz, charles neff is suggesting this could mean taylor is looking to plan her own convention at a larger scale, so it sounds like she wants to get in on it, which i don't blame her. >> i mean, if taylor has her own con, her own convention, i can't

imagine all the swifties coming together trading bracelets, her coming out. it would be chaos, but would make a ton of money. >> taylor swift has not announced a planned appearance at the upcoming swifty led convention, as she'll be touring asia on the international leg of her eras tour. rolling stone confirmed singer songwriter tracy chapman and country singer luke combs will perform a duet of fast car at the grammy awards this sunday. luke combs released a cover of chapman's 1988 hit last march, which hit billboard's number two spot over the summer. this surpassed the number six position. the song rose two during chapman's original release more than 30 years ago. chapman was a longtime san francisco resident, by the way. after combs cover, she became the first black woman to hold sole songwriting credits on a number one country chart topper. >> all right, here's a look at the stories trending tonight on ktvu.com. one of the top stories parklets, which were popularized during the pandemic, creating debate in some san francisco commercial areas about whether

its facilities, including at its fremont plant as ktvu. lamonica peters reports, this class action lawsuit included 25 counties from across the state, including eight bay area counties. >> prosecutors say tesla illegally disposed of hazardous waste at its car service centers , energy centers and its factory in fremont. a lawsuit was filed in san joaquin county and joined by 24 other county district attorneys across the state, including san francisco. >> we hope that something like this is enough of a slap on the wrist that it curbs that behavior for in the future. >> tesla has now been ordered to pay $1.3 million in civil penalties and $200,000 for the cost of the investigation. >> lauren weston is the executive director of palo alto, based acterra, a nonprofit environmental action group not involved in the case. she says she hopes the settlement is a

model for other companies to abide by state regulations. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins also released a statement saying in part, today's settlement against tesla serves to provide a cleaner environment for citizens throughout the state by preventing the contamination of our precious natural resources. the investigation began in 2018, when d.a. jenkins conduct undercover inspections of tesla's trash bins at car service centers in. investigators found numerous items, including batteries, oils, paint, brake cleaners and electronic waste disposed improperly. the process that manufacturers go through in creating cars can result in byproducts and those byproducts. >> if they're not disposed of properly, can cause harm to wildlife. fish life, drinking water, um, natural habitats. and that affects all of us. for the

next five years, tesla has complied. >> measures will include properly training its employees as well as holding yearly waste audits at 10% of its facilities. now, we reached out to tesla for comment, but they didn't respond in time for this report. lamonica peters, ktvu, fox two news. >> two different crashes on highway 17 today, two cars headed south collided near glenwood drive in los gatos. chp shared this photo of the aftermath on x both lanes of southbound highway 17 were blocked and people were advised to avoid the area and traffic was at a standstill on northbound highway 17 this afternoon, as santa clara county fire responded to a multi vehicle collision near idlewild road, crews were called to the scene around 215. no other information was immediately available. people urged to use caution during these slick roadways. san francisco based octa, the latest tech company to announce layoffs. >> the identity management company plans to cut 400

employees, which is about 7% of its workforce. in a message to employees, the company's ceo said the layoffs are due to, quote, the reality that costs are still too high end quote. this is the second round of layoffs for octa, which cut 300 employees a year ago and san jose based zoom also announcing job cuts this week, according to bloomberg, zoom plans to cut about 150 jobs, which is less than 2% of its workforce. >> joe montana is suiting up, and just in time for the super bowl today, rapper drake released photos of the hall of fame quarterback wearing his streetwear brand october's very own. in these pictures, montana is wearing a letterman jacket with the colors of this year's super bowl logo and a hoodie with the brand's logo right on the front. these two items will go on sale as part of the company's nfl collection. it starts tomorrow morning at seven in the morning. if you'd like to get your hands on some. well, the super bowl un strikingly similar. the kansas
