closed off the area for some time as they investigated ktvu lamonica peters has the latest developments. chp told us when they arrived, they found two vehicles involved a gray subaru suv as well as a tesla and both had already fallen over the cliff near the blue lagoon. one was completely submerged in the water, and the other was just on the edge of the of the lagoon. now there were three people involved in this accident. two of them have been confirmed to have died. during this crash. there was also another person involved a woman in her sixties who was taken to stanford hospital and we were also told that one of the victims one of the victims who died was her husband. now they are continuing to investigate. right now. they told us that they would give us an update as to what happened right now. we don't know what what caused this crash if it was a head on collision, or what exactly happened, but we will bring you an update as as soon

as san mateo county sheriffs are able to give us more information. lamonica peters. ktvu fox two news. thank you. lamonica for that update their nose founder elizabeth holmes is spending her first full day behind bars. she is at a federal prison camp brian in east central texas. it's a minimum security facility that houses about 600 female inmates under prison guidelines. she will get to see her children for a few hours on the weekends and talk to people on the phone for up to 15 minutes, a call for a total of 300 minutes per month. homes will work a job that pays between 12 cents to about a dollar an hour. she owes more than $450 million in restitution to victims. someone who was the ceo of a very large company, and now she's going to be taking orders and stuck with a very strict regiment in terms of winchester, wake up what she has to do. holmes is appealing her

conviction, but legal experts say it's a long shot with good behavior, though she could be released two years early. the woman accused of giving a deadly injection during an unlicensed cosmetic enhancement procedure is now out on bail. vivian gomez is no longer an inmate at san mateo county jail after defense attorneys successfully convinced the judge that she is not a flight risk. ktvu jesse gary was inside the courtroom for that hearing. as he walked to the witness stand and past vivian gomez. connie paused and shook his head in disgust. he's the father of christina gorka county , a young woman who died shortly after gomez performed an unlicensed cosmetic procedure. she was murdered by that lady. she killed her, he said shortly after being sworn in and then moments later. your honor. picture yourself having a gorgeous daughter, and in a matter of 24 hours, she kills her and she runs away to florida . it's no different than putting a gun to someone's head killed her. in the end, judge novak

ruled gomez was crying by this time is not a flight risk back to her native colombia. since both her passports have been surrendered. bail was set at $200,000. the money being put up is not ill gotten gains from the conduct she engaged in, so we're satisfied with that that there is a legitimate source for it. coming from a family member gomez son, herman put up $40,000 for his mother's bail, 30,000 of which he testified comes from a loan from his employer. gomez is accused in the april death of kim kardashian lookalike and social media influencer christina gore. connie prosecutors say gomez flew in from florida and injected buttocks enhancing substance to burlingame hotel. soon thereafter, connie became sick and died a day later, there was information even in the police reports that connie has had a similar reaction. that she had to this incident with other medical procedures not done by ms gomez. prosecutors extradited gomez from florida, charging her

with involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license. she had a infection, causing a pulmonary embolism, which, of course, can always be fatal. defense attorneys counter toxicology reports haven't been finished, and the cause of death is still undetermined if they just filed the practicing. medicine without a license. well that would have all made sense because they didn't know, but they went ahead and filed the involuntary manslaughter and as yet unclear as to what caused what was the modus of death. novak attached conditions to that release, including gomez cannot return to florida. she has to stay here in california has to surrender both passports . a preliminary hearing is set for june 7th right back here at the courthouse. and redwood city. jesse gary ktvu, fox two news. thank you, jesse. the city of antiochus is considering changing city government to a rotating mayor instead of an election special hearing last night, the city council discussed transitioning from 4 to 5 council districts, with the job of the mayor shifting to a

different member each year. supporters on the council say the majority of cities in contra costa county already used that system. mayor lamar thorpe was not present for the meeting. backers of the change said he would not be affected. this is not to remove the current mayor from his position. this is not to make a change with that. that was never part of our discussion. at any time. this was talking in the future. what would be best for the city? voters would still have to approve that change. a new report says 40% of food poisoning outbreaks from restaurants are linked to people working while sick, according to the centers for disease control and prevention. the most common illnesses are the norovirus and salmonella investigators with the cdc are calling for better enforcement of comprehensive food safety policies, and that includes making sure sick workers stay home. today is the

san rafael was vandalized and pulled down by protesters more than two years ago. the suspects were originally charged with felony vandalism. but the d a just reduced the charges. two misdemeanors. ktvu is amber lee spoke to the district attorney about that decision. a small group marched in downtown san rafael to protest district attorney laurie for goalies decision to reduce charges in the case of five suspects who defaced and tore down a statue of st helena, paris, sarah it was located on private property where mission san rafael is located the statue that was taken down. rip my heart out. i mean, this is part of our shared history. on october 12th 2020 people tying ropes around the statue and pulling it down. it happened during a gathering held by coast miwok of marin commemorating indigenous peoples day. organisms say they did not

ask anyone to take down the statue, but say they were glad it happened. they say sarah is responsible for the destruction of native american culture. there's different views on the same you know, but don't go tear the statue down. that doesn't help anyone. that's just violence. four women and one man were arrested for felony vandalism, which has been reduced to misdemeanors. it was really a historical upset and angst for goalie says the reduction of charges includes conditions the defendants have been ordered to pay restitution . stay away from the church for one year and participate in a community forum with historians and church officials. and write letters of apology. we really want to see accountability, which we have the says the defendants have already spent 18 hours during the span of two years, meeting with the restorative justice practitioner who works in the d a s office. the one thing we don't want to do is have this happen again. and so there are people in the church who want to have this

disposition can't just walk up to any property and decimate something that means something to a community plans to hold the community forum to bring all sides together within the next 60 days. one parish member tells me the statue has been restored , but there is concern that if it's placed back in its original spot it will be vandalized again in san rafael amberleigh ktvu fox two news. thank you. amber to santa clara county correctional deputies were stabbed by an inmate to the sheriff's office says the inmate made his own knife, left his cell and stabbed the two deputies sunday night at the main county jail in downtown san jose. deputies say they were able to eventually restrained the man after a struggle. the injured deputies suffered cuts and wounds on their hands and shoulders and they are recovering from those injuries. we're learning more about the future of the former site of the ghost ship warehouse in oakland. just weeks ago, a nonprofit developer bought the property where 36 people died in a fire

back in december. 2016 that building has now been torn down , and the organization wants to build 40 to 85 affordable housing units at that site, family members of the people who were killed in a ghost ship fire say they're happy to see that building gone. i'm glad it's gone. i think it took too long. i wish i could have watched it come down and just said good riddance weighed heavily on the community. and i think this is an opportunity to continue the hill but also make something very, very positive for the community out of that. families of the victims want to see a permanent memorial or tribute to those who died in the building, but they say they are supportive of the housing plan. the developer says construction could begin in 2025. san francisco zakariyah was damaged by a fire last week, according to fire officials. hooded man on a scooter threw something into a garbage bin that caught fire and damage populate mexican grill in

the mission district. the whole incident was caught on nearby security cameras. san francisco firefighters continue to investigate the incident. the restaurant will be closed for the next few days. a tech billionaire is making a sizable donation to help boost san francisco shopping district still struggling from the pandemic. san francisco native chris larson is donating $2 million through his nonprofit organization avenue green light grants will be between five and $50,000 and will go toward local neighborhood business groups. one of the grants is expected to go towards replacing the iconic rainbow flag in the castro district. some of the other grants will go towards installing streetlights in jackson square near civic center . the money will also fund art walks in the outer richmond and the castro districts and the fillmore jazz festival and concerts in the dogpatch neighborhood. a wildfire in yuba county prompted an evacuation order. the fire started yesterday afternoon in the area of sicard flat and the highway

20 corridor, which is just northeast of marysville, california cal fire did not say how many people were evacuated, but we do know at least 13 acres have burned. firefighters managed the fire from the air. using two helicopters from chico and two tankers from mcclelland airport in sacramento county. as of right now, that fire is 60% contained people in santa clara county may notice a lot of pg and e crews out. starting today, ground and helicopter crews will be inspecting power lines, electric towers and power poles . for the next three days, the helicopters will be flying close to the lines and towers between 10 am and four o'clock in the afternoon. they could be as low as 100 ft. off the ground. crews are also looking for any trees that could interfere with electrical service. so that the trees can be trimmed before there is a problem. for 18 is the time speaking of pg knee, steve, i think, gasia said at first, it is nice to have a

lives to help communities. it will be at a graduation ceremony for 16 honorees who completed the leadership program bridging the bay, igniting leaders of change. the nonprofit leaders collectively reached more than 2 million students in the bay area. the event is tonight at the team's downtown oakland offices. angeles dodgers star clayton kershaw is criticizing the transgender activist group, the sisters of perpetual indulgence. now he disagrees with the decision to re invite them to dodgers pride night, kershaw held a players only meeting to discuss his issues, telling the los angeles times that it has nothing to do with the lgbtq community, but rather the sisters, he says the group quote is making fun of a religion. kershaw will not boycott pride night against the giants on june 16th but says in response, the dodgers are bringing back christian faith and family day in july. time is running down from nevada lawmakers to vote on the a's ballpark proposal. the nevada legislature adjourns next monday

but is still considering the $380 million financing deal, although polls show constituents strongly opposed the deal, hearing earlier this week showed support among lawmakers to provide public funding for the $1.5 billion ballpark. i think that there, you know what we heard during that hearing was a lot of questioning, right? what does this mean for las vegas? what does this mean for nevada as a whole? will this bring the jobs that the aides have said it will? and i think that there is the support for it, but it's just a matter of, you know, lawmakers kind of coming to consensus and all the different parts of the deal. the a's indicate that if it doesn't work out in las vegas, the team will consider moving to another city such as portland, salt lake city or nashville. well many of us have checked out a book but forgot to return it to the library after a few days, but one book was returned to a napa valley library on may 10th nearly 100 years after its original checkout date. the book

terrifying things has happened to me in my life. denise lillian described being attacked last monday by young people she thought at first needed help. 40 15 shafter pavement punching me kicking me dragging me through the streets. business owner said he worried about his staff's lives with multiple armed robberies at 1.4 times in six years. the last time that my staff got held up become 20. military veterans. black man open, almost got shot and killed and this father said he wants the city to draw a line and send a message of zero tolerance, violent killers coming after y'all. police say they are going to work on getting more visible patrols through the neighborhoods and called says he will push for more consequences . if they're committing these violent crimes repeatedly. we can't just say oh, please don't do this again. we have to catch them and create consequences that will send another email

letter to the district attorney. i'm talking about this very thing. the oakland department of violence prevention's interim chief and one school board member who was present said the city has had some success with their intervention teams working directly with troubled youth at oakland schools to steer them away from violence and crime. but the budget does not cover all schools. these are teams of three people. and they go out and actually help students who are struggling, would probably need about 6 to 9 more individuals just to have three teams that every comprehensive high school in oakland people left the meeting. some of them told me they wish there were more opportunities like this for residents to voice their concerns. council member cobb says he does plan to follow up on these issues with the area police captain and he says he's going to fight for more overtime for police in the city's budget. reporting from oakland. jana katsuyama ktvu fox two news . thank you. janna protesters gathered at city hall ahead of a public meeting to study mayor

spending plan at the end of next month. the man who police say stabbed bakery employee in san francisco's chinatown has been arrested and is now in jail. police say 61 year old oil i was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and burglary. they say he stabbed an employee of the a bakery and cafe near stockton and jackson streets monday morning in an unprovoked attack. the female victim remains in the hospital with critical injuries. florida governor ron de santis kicked off his first campaign tour as a republican presidential candidate. the event in iowa was his first big speech since entering the race last week. it starts a four day 12 city swing, where he will also make appearances in the key early primary states of new hampshire and south carolina, speaking at an evangelical church in des moines, santa's criticized the bipartisan debt deal struck over the weekend. this is not going to solve our nation's fiscal

problems. i can tell you in florida we run budget surpluses. we have a 1.2. trillion dollars gdp in florida 13th clark. santa's will be campaigning in iowa for two days. the iowa caucuses will be held early next year. former president donald trump also scheduled to visit iowa this week. neither candidate has campaign stops in california on their schedule. the state senate passed a bill to extend the age for foster care in california. the measure would allow young people to stay in the foster system for one year longer. until the age of 22 . the goal is to reduce the risk of homelessness for the estimated 4000 youth age out of the system every year. state senator dave cortese e who authored the bill, said in a statement. quote extending foster care raises the likelihood that a young person will attend college, earn more money and stay out of trouble with the law. let's give are more vulnerable young people some extra support so they can

make progress toward college or a good career. san francisco travel has launched a nationwide ad campaign trying to attract tourists back to the city. beautiful city in the world is never the same, but always san francisco. the other highlights things like restaurants, cable cars and chinatown. the ad will appear and us television markets such as new york, chicago, boston washington, d. c in houston. it will also be shown internationally in australia, asia pacific, india, europe, canada and mexico. mayor london breed will release her full budget. today we have learned that she is proposing $692 million in spending next year to help meet the city's five year plan to cut homelessness in half. the mayor says the money will be used for new shelter beds, more housing placements and additional funding to prevent people from falling into homelessness. over the next five years in my homeless recovery

plan. my plan and my goal working with our various city agencies and the public is to make sure that we are creating 30,000 new opportunities to ensure that people have new places and that they don't become homeless in the first place. if the mayor is spending proposal is approved, she says it would create 600 shelter beds and 545 housing units in the next year. right now, the city faces an estimated two year deficit of $744 million. in san jose. the city's has fewer people's. they say fewer people are living on the streets than a year ago. city leaders say recent counts show a 10.7% reduction in unsheltered people a 4.7% reduction in overall homelessness from 2022 to 2023. we are leading the way here in san jose and reducing unsheltered homelessness by

two people were killed after their cars went off highway one and plunged into a lagoon in san mateo county crash happened at about 6 40 last night. you're being hollow road just south of pescadero. chp closed off the area for some time as the investigated ktvu lamonica peters has the latest developments chp told us when they arrived, they found two vehicles involved a gray subaru suv as well as a tesla and both had already fallen over. for the cliff near the lagoon lagoon. one was completely submerged in the water, and the other was just on the edge of the of the lagoon. now there were three people involved in this accident . two of them have been confirmed to have died. during this crash. there was also another person involved a woman in her sixties who was taken to stanford hospital and we were also told that one of the victims one of the victims who died was her husband. now they are continuing to investigate. right now. they told us that

judge, authorities say. if you take a street drug that's been laced with fentanyl, there was a 60% chance it will kill you. and the chances are even higher in some parts of the country, one place with increased police enforcement against illegal drugs is along the gulf coast of florida. now, the lee county sheriff has doubled the size of its narcotics unit since last year after seeing more potent drugs on the streets. drugs are laced with fentanyl marijuana. there are pills now that look like different types of pills that are fentanyl pills. so unfortunately when these drugs are out in the streets we're responding to overdoses. federal customs agents say there has been 150% increase in the number of busts involving fentanyl since this time last year. they say that truck is responsible for more than 100,000 drug overdose deaths since last spring. san mateo county supervisors looking to the damage caused by fentanyl and opioids. they're not working on a comprehensive plan that will focus on education treatment and

bridge, 6 31, let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. hundreds of people packed a community meeting focused on crime in oakland city council members organized the meeting at oakland tech high school. the crowd expressed anger about violence and their neighborhood. many shared stories and voice their frustration about how the city is handling the recent uptick in crime. one woman described being attacked last monday by young people she thought needed help. with the show after payment, punching me kicking me dragging me through the streets of 1.4 times in six years. on the last time that my staff got held up one point military veterans. black man for hogan almost got shot and killed. police say they are going to work on getting more visible patrols throughout the neighborhoods and city council members say they will push for harsher consequences. if they're

committing these violent crimes repeatedly we can't just say oh, please don't do this again. we have to catch them and create consequences that will send another email letter to the district attorney. i'm talking about this very thing. the oakland department of violence prevention's interim chief says the city has been successful with their intervention teams that work directly with troubled youth at oakland schools. but one problem is the city's budget does not cover all of the schools. oakland city hall protesters gathered at a head of a public meeting to study mayor shank towns proposed budget they are calling for continued funding for violence prevention. one community organizer held up photos of a 13 year old girl who named desiree jenkins and her mother, rebecca, police say were shot and killed as a result of domestic violence in east oakland. this is here. a collective of all the people that came together to support this one family, a mother and daughter, so without the funding , how can we support our people? one student spoke out. as she

says she has a beneficiary of some of these community based programs. i'm a formerly incarcerated, um students and. it helped me because i used to be in a lot of trouble and me being able to go to these programs have helped me the interim chief of the department of violence prevention, says proposed cuts could mean 2000. fewer people will receive services. the oakland city council is set to hold public forums and develop their proposal before finalizing a two year spending plan at the end of next month. there will be a vote today in the house of representatives on a plan to suspend the nation's debt ceiling. president biden and house speaker kevin mccarthy brokered the deal and are both working to convince lawmakers in their parties to support the package before next week's deadline. president and his team are having conversation with democratic members of congress across the ideological spectrum , moderate and progressives that includes more than 101 on one calls with members of congress that's between the president and

his team sixties. the deal made it through the house rules committee yesterday by one vote. conservative republicans say the budget cuts in the agreement don't go far enough. progressive democrats don't like some of the concessions the president made to get republican support. not one republican should vote for this deal. it is a bad deal still undecided, you know, on the one hand obviously we want to make sure there's no default, so that's priority number one. but we also need to hold our ground to stand up for the most vulnerable americans. if the house approves the deal, it will go to the senate. congress faces a monday deadline to address the debt ceiling. that's when the treasury department projects the u. s. would be unlikely to have enough money to meet its debt obligations. lawmakers and public transit officials are pledging with governor newsom to keep bay area public transit alive with more state funding. this is a do or die moment for public transportation. in california. new funding is

needed, or bart must begin making severe cuts to service and staffing. mark says without increased state funding, it will have to consider reducing trains to once an hour, ending all weekend service and stopping weekday service at nine pm service would be a big a big impact on the economy on um, you know, mobility and people's general general quality of life in the bay area. i am a huge advocate of public transportation. um i don't think we have enough of it, actually. public transit advocates say additional state funding is necessary to help the area transit systems survive as they try to adapt to reduced ridership numbers following the pandemic. we now know a little bit more about what's driving the low ridership on barred a recent poll of passengers by the bay area council found three main issues, crime safety and cleanliness. 78% of the respondents, including those who never or rarely ride, bart, say

now in san jose, the city reports fewer people living on the streets. then a year ago, city leaders say a recent count shows 10.7% reduction in unsheltered people. it's no supplies. we are leading the way here in san jose and reducing unsheltered homelessness by embracing solutions that are faster to deploy, and in order for them to be faster, they have to be more cost effective entry level. san jose mayor matt mehan says the drop in homelessness is largely because of the quick build communities that are now going up in parts of the city. san mateo county supervisors are looking into the damage caused by fentanyl and opioids. they're now working on a comprehensive plan that will focus on education treatment and increased access to medications that can reverse overdoses. data shows there were 81 overdose deaths in san mateo county last year. 50 of them involved

fentanyl, federal drug authorities say if you take a street drug that's been laced with fentanyl, there is a 60% chance it will kill you. and the chances are even higher in some parts of the country, one place with increased police enforcement against illegal drugs is along the gulf coast of florida, the league county sheriff, this is in fort myers area has doubled the size of its narcotics unit since last year. that's after seeing more potent drugs on the streets. drugs are laced with fentanyl marijuana. there are pills now that look like different types of pills that are fentanyl pills. so unfortunately when these drugs are out in the streets we're responding to overdoses. federal customs agents say there has been 150% increase in the number of bus involving fentanyl since this time last year. they say that drug is responsible for more than 100,000 drug overdose deaths since last spring. well today marks world no tobacco day campaign to emphasize the dangers of tobacco on the health of people as well as the planet.
