update, ali. garcia usually around seven o'clock for the last several days is when we've seen teachers start to set up their picket lines in front of schools here in oakland, but that is not the case today. very quiet out here. that's because the strike is over. there will not be picket lines today after the union and the school district reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. this is what it looked like around 3 30 in the morning when that official announcement was made about this tenant agreement that was at the local teamsters union hall where you can see people inside, clapping, hugging, celebrating. that an agreement had been reached. we don't have a copy of it, but the union says it includes the following a 10% pay increase for all educators and a one time $5000 stipend. the hiring of additional teacher librarians, counselors and nurses district wide. there's also provisions in this tentative agreement to limit class sizes, as well as new requirements that the district and the board has to follow before closing or consolidating any schools. today

we reached an agreement. um to raise our compensation by 15. including a historic collapse of our salary structure. we want our common good goals, including assistance for on how students shared governance. and resources for black thriving community schools. now you heard her mention some of those common goals. also in this tentative agreement, the hiring of more than teacher aides for schools in which 40% of the student body is black. the formation of committees with teachers and union members to study the issue of reparations for black students also advocate for section eight vouchers for unhappy housed students within the district and other to make other decisions about school resources with the union called shared governance or decision making. those were all things that the union had referred to as it's common goods list. and those were things that at the beginning of the strike, the district said it would not

negotiate on. they've apparently changed their position now what's going to happen for students at oakland schools today? well the school district says today is a transition day, so that means teachers can come back to the classroom, although they're not required to, but there won't be any picket lines in front of schools in case people and parents want to send their kids onto campuses. there will be adult supervision on campus. and then the school district and the union says regular classes in classroom instruction will resume tomorrow . now we have not heard directly from the oakland unified school district. they sent out something, saying that they're going to have a news conference talking about this tentative agreement. quote sometime today . we don't know exactly when, but we haven't had yet a chance to speak to them directly about this tentative agreement, but in the meantime, the strike is over. you can send your kids to class today without crossing a picket line. live in oakland. ali rasmus ktvu box, thomas. thank you. times 705. oakland police are busy searching for

the criminals who attacked and robbed a woman in broad daylight . it happened saturday afternoon in oakland's trestle glen neighborhood. home security cameras are rolling and captured the crime as it happened when you see it, you can see two cars driving up to a woman walking along rovner place. mass men jumped out of the cars and ran towards her. she trying to run away, but they knocked it to the ground and stole her purse. it gives a sickening feeling inside of what's happening. what's going on with our world and our social fabric, and you know our community or neighborhood. it's terrible. and it seems so. it's hard to tell that there is an increase in those kinds of things going on. the victim was not seriously heard. the suspects got away in cars described as a white four door sedan and a silver or gray kia suv campgrounds at yosemite national park or closed today due to possible flooding, park officials say the merced river could rise above flood stage due

but all say more time is needed to work out the details across the bay bridge ended in arrests just after midnight yesterday morning, chp officers tried to stop three cars that were speeding across the bridge into oakland. drivers kept going, though a chp plane that was already in the air was able to track the cars, allowing officers to follow from a distance. hp and oakland police were able to catch and arrested drivers. they say they found a gun and stolen catalytic converters inside the vehicles. police in fremont are searching for a drive. thru crashed into a car gillet killing a good samaritan would stop to help another driver who was involved in a crash. crash happened early sunday morning on the north bong interstate 80 off ramp to mission boulevard, chp says around 2 40 am the driver of a chevy crashed on the off ramp. a good samaritan in a mitsubishi, two of them, actually, a male driver, female passenger pulled over to help the driver. one of the good samaritans got out of the car to speak with the driver of the chevy. that's when an officer says a driver in a ford

f 1 50. slammed into the back of the mitsubishi, sending the car forward hitting and kidding, killing the female. the driver of the ford ran away time is 708 . a debate is due to begin in the oakland city council this week over whether to approve an ordinance to crack down on side shows. the proposed legislation gives a $1000 fine and up to six months in jail to people who organize and support side shows . but critics like that's not tough enough, it should also punished spectators. city council debate is expected to begin tomorrow and the amtrak train station in martinez has reopened a mercury spill their force that station to close last week. hazmat teams have been out there cleaning the location since then, investigators think so. someone dumped the mercury in a trash can in the train stations parking lot. if you have any information about this call martinez beliefs president

biden expects to get back to debt ceiling negotiations tomorrow with house speaker kevin mccarthy and other congressional leaders remain optimistic because i'm a congenital optimist. but i really think there's a desire on their part as well as ours to reach agreement. i think we'll be able to do it. president appeared confident he'll be able to make a deal with republicans to avoid a default on the country's debt. he wants republicans to agree to raise the debt ceiling without preconditions. speaker kevin mccarthy posted a video on twitter over the weekend, saying gop lawmakers need a commitment to cut spending first. whatever goes forward is not just going to be raising the debt ceiling is going to be just like we did in the house. we will raise the debt ceiling with doing changes within our spending. treasury secretary janet yellen has warned that failing to raise the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling by june, 1st could trigger a constitutional crisis time now 7 10 in the east, very c. h. p s

golden gates air division worked with the same ramon valley fire department and the california state parks to rescue a woman on mount diablo. she was out hiking yesterday afternoon when she fell about 100 ft. near devil's pulpit and was seriously hurt. she was treated that john muir medical center, and there was another rescue this one in the south bay. chp's golden gate division air operations was called again saturday evening. hiker truck needed help at alum rock park in san jose that hiker fell from iraq, firefighters could hear her calls for help and managed to get him to safety. questions are swirling about the future of the golden state warriors now that they've been eliminated from the playoffs, including the future of several players and the status of general manager bob myers. espn reports will take a few weeks off to decide whether he will stay with the team decision that he's quote torn about because of his relationship with the warriors.

recognition technology at 16 airports around the country. last year. katie was andre senior here in studio and andre. it's already being used at one bay area airport. do have one airport that's using it right now. the tsc started using the devices on a trial basis at san jose mineta international airport back in 2018. where it's worked very well. they seem most passengers, they say seem to like it. here's how it works. passengers scan their driver's license, id card or passport and a security checkpoint. then the camera takes their photo and software compares the two images to make sure the person is who they claim to be. the tc says travelers don't need to worry about privacy concerns because an answer is already built into the system. once all that photograph is taken and the matches me scan as well. your life photo is deleted upon match. privacy advocates are demanding the system not be used for anything other than i'd checks and they want to make sure people who opt out of the system aren't negatively affected by having to wait much longer to get through security checkpoint. the tc hopes to have

shark bit of 13 year old girl, fox reporter jonathan serrie talked with this teenager and tells us her story. 13 year old l. a. reid believes she was attacked by a bull shark. at least 4 ft. long it happened at fort pierce inlet state park that's on florida's atlantic coast. l a and a friend were in waist deep water. sharks swim under the friend headed straight for ella first biting her in the abdomen. i tried blocking it with my arm and my hand and it kind of just slipped in and got my finger and my arm. and it's like super around and got my leg again. it didn't really hurt in the first part, because, like all the adrenaline was just like yeah, i don't know. we are so shocked. ellis friend drove her home in a golf cart. her parents brought her to a nearby fire station, and paramedics rushed her to the hospital. her mom says hello was calm the whole time at the hospital, where she was treated and released, according to data from the university of florida. the u. s

do want to mention that south bay commuters i mentioned it's not as severe as it normally is . but there is some slowing getting up to that west valley. it's 801. let's get back to the headlines breaking news in oakland, a tentative agreement between the teachers and the who happen today and tomorrow by turning to katie's alley rasmus , who is following late developments, ali gasia the school day is just about to start here at montclair elementary and at the district, other schools and unlike the past seven days since may, 4th we usually seen a picket line starting to form by this time, and it is very quiet out here. the strike is over. there is no picket line, and parents can drop off their kids to all campuses across the u. s. d without having to cross the picket line. this after the union and the school district announced they had reached a tentative agreement overnight. let's show you the video from overnight around 3 30 this morning when the union made the announcement about that agreement that had been reached.

this was at their teamsters union hall, where some of the negotiations had been taking place. over the past couple of weeks. you could see people clapping and celebrating their after that tentative agreement was reached included in it, according to the union is a 10% ongoing pay increase in a one time stipend of $5000 for most teachers, and that includes back pay going back to november of last year. so depending on you how how you crunch the numbers, the union says. it's really a 15% pay increase for most teachers. but again the details on the numbers of compensation or fuzzy for now, because we don't have the contract ourselves. to take a closer look at it, but also in the tentative agreement, according to the union, the hiring of additional teacher librarians, counselors and nurses in the district. there's also provision in the contract to limit class sizes, as well as new requirements that the district and the board have to meet before they can close or consolidate anymore. oakland schools. we have fought hard for this tentative agreement, and it has been and it will be

hopefully ratified by our members. and will then ensure that educators, parents and students, um and stakeholders will have a voice in our in our school district. also in the tentative agreement, the hiring of more teacher aides for schools in which 40% of the student body is black and the formation of committees with teachers and union members alongside people from the district and a couple of parents to share decisions about schools , called shared governance or decision making. those were some of the things that the union had been referring to as part of its common goods list. and there not negotiate on the apparently changed their position. so what's going to happen for students today at oakland schools? the district is calling it a transitional day so teachers can be in the classroom, but they don't have to be. the will be adults in their supervisors and administrators to supervise and make sure that kids can come to the classroom if they want to

one of the bay area's largest school districts. the oakland teachers strike is over. just hours ago, oakland teachers announced they have reached a tentative agreement with the district. the union says the district agreed to pay increases more resources in schools and common good issues for students and families. union leader announced the agreement just a few hours ago. to our oakland community. we have reached a tentative agreement with the oakland magic wommunities have d to wait for safe and recently just community schools. today we reached an agreement. um to raise our compensation by 15. including the historic collapse of our salary structure. yeah we added teacher librarians, more counselors and more mental health services to our schools and to our students. so far, the district hasn't said anything about the tentative agreement.

area right now. you know again. this is all happening because of a partnership between the city of san jose and valley water to help with flood protection improvements that will take place in this creek. but some homeless advocates worry that the relocation it won't really solve anything in the long term. some people may end up in tiny homes. and those people are just gonna it's a revolving door. you go in for six months and you come back out and because there's no perfect politics, and that's why so many people who are in tiny homes maintain a tent back at their camp because they know that there is no permanent supportive housing, so they keep a backup plan. the question now becomes where exactly do these people moved to? well advocates telling ktvu . there simply isn't enough housing or shelter beds for them. in san jose, the mayor mayhem has said that he's he's concerned about what's going to
